BEST BUY'S VIDEO GAMES TRADE-IN PAGE

Check most up-to-date TIV using BB's Video Games Value Estimator.

Check which BB stores do trade-ins here.
In-store trades are now done at the Trade-In Counter at the Gaming Dept.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F.A.Q. Best Buy has a short FAQ here.

:bomb: The values in the Lists do not match the values in the Estimator. What's up with that?
I don't know. It seems the Lists are usually updated on Sundays, and the TIVs are adjusted to reflect the List in a few days. But as trades are made, the TIVs may change and the Lists are not updated frequently. Again, check the Estimator for latest TIV.

The promo says "Trade 2..." or "Trade 3..." but I only want to trade 1 game, will I still get $x amount?
You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. The promo is titled "Trade 2" etc to make the giftcards sound more lucrative.

The 2 games I want to trade are worth more than $60 combined according to the Estimator. Does that mean I will only get $60 for the 2 games?
No. You will get whatever TIV is offered according to the Estimator for each game. For example, if your total according to the Estimator is $70, you will get a $70 giftcard.

:bomb: If I locked in a trade online, and the value drops, will I still get the locked in value when I mail it in?
Yes. You will get the locked in TIV as long as you ship it before the "Ship by" date "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value" (as of 5/2), and your games are received in the condition you declared.

How long do I have after I lock in a trade online before I have to ship it?
30 days. Has been recently changed to "Your item(s) must be received within 14 days to get the quoted value".

Can you lock in the price online then trade it in-store?
No.

Is there a limit to how many games I can trade in?
According to BB: "We will not accept more than 3 games of the same title and platform from a customer (or address) in a year. Please do not submit more than the limit as excess submissions WILL NOT BE RETURNED." Example, you can trade 3 copies of Portal 2 for PS3 and 3 copies of Portal 2 for x360 without problems. Some people have been banned from trade-ins at BB due to the violation of this policy. If you plan on trading more than 3 copies of a game per platform by doing it through various stores, you do so at your own risk and discretion.

:bomb: Can I trade game disc only, or do I need the case and manuals, too?
BB used to be strict about complete copies, but this has changed, and ppl are trading games in store without manuals or cover sleeve for full TIV. If you trade online it's sometimes YMMV. I would advise you to send in complete games (case, disc, manual) since some ppl are reporting only getting 50% of the locked TIV.

I see people talking about getting Amazon giftcards by trading at Best Buy. How are they doing that?
Some Best Buys sell Kindle giftcards which can be used on Amazon.com like regular Amazon giftcards. You will not get the Kindle card with your trade, but you can buy them with your BB giftcard.

When I do a in-store trade, I am asked: to be fingerprinted, to have my photo taken, how much I weigh, etc. What's the deal?
Pawn shop laws regulating trade-ins and resale of used goods varies from state to state or city to city. It is not Best Buy's rule, and varies from store to store depending on where you live.

I went to a store to do a trade-in and they asked for a Best Buy receipt. WTF?
According to BB's own FAQ:
Q: Is trade-in limited to items I bought at Best Buy?
A: No.

I don't know why this happens, but apparently some stores do not have their system setup to take non-BB purchased items at this time. Check the link above regarding stores that do video games trade-ins first.
contact the USPS office you dropped the package off at. I did so for my mistake and although they couldn't find it they told me that they would give it to UPS. It took a couple weeks in my case but hopefully it won't for anyone else.

I did this right when bestbuy first started the combo UPS/USPS label. I've always gone UPS ever since and never had an issue. Hopefully someone else chimes in with their experience.
i left it at my mailbox. :applause:

but i have an idea at which usps it may be at. soo. ill call and leave a voicemail.

were u able to get the quoted TIV?

yes but this was back when they had a 30 day period.

well hopefully itll get there asap. if not, then return to amazon.

They just denied 2 copies of Sports Champions I sent in for $20 that had the "Not For Resale" mark on the back. I figured since they no longer cared about the game being complete that this would not be an issue. Should I even bother calling?

*edit: I was looking at the wrong estimates #-oThey did indeed get verified for the $20.

Did they actually say it was because of the 'Not for Resale' tag? Can you copy/paste the rejection email for us? I don't recall anyone having a rejection before.

So I finally got a bunch of verified values for stuff that had been delivered over a month ago and am kind of disappointed. I sent several incomplete games and either the value got cut in half or was just rejected outright. I sent into two Sports Champions - one was marked as unplayable and the other one was verified for half value (it had no cover art). My Tony Hawk Shred was also marked as unplayable. I don't understand how any of the games I sent in can be marked as unplayable when they were brand new. Maybe I was naive and thought incomplete games would get full value but none of them should have been marked unplayable. Although when I traded some in stores without artwork, I did get the full value. I should have tested with a few low value games first. I lost about $50 from what I thought I would get. Oh well, guess I should be more careful next time.

That's not good to hear. I sent in 3 games today that were complete but the UPC code was cut out of the cover art (it might have been not for resale instead of a UPC code). I hope they don't get rejected because of that. I figured it was ok since I thought if they accept disc only now, the missing part of the cover art would be fine.

not good at all. thought other people were sending in disc only and were getting full value.
not good at all. thought other people were sending in disc only and were getting full value.
I also only got half value for a disc only dead rising 2 that I sent in two weeks ago.

Maybe if you sent the games before they enacted the new disc only policy, they won't honor it. I sent two Sports Champions with Not For Resale marks on the back after they put in the the policy and both went through. It might not be the case at all, I probably just got a nice inspector or something, but it's a possibility.
That's not right, when you submit a trade all it asks if the disc is playable and mentions nothing about disc only getting 1/2 the value
I agree. If this is the way they are going to do business, then they should inform us that we will not get the full value if disc only were received. I traded in 3 games at BB a week ago. I hope I don't get screwed with half a value. I could have sold those games on eBay instead. Did you guys call BB about the half values? I knew it was too good to be true, but I hope BB in the future would have a note stating the value will be reduced if not complete.

That is complete bullshit. Everyone needs to to call them on this. No where was it stated that those game would only be worth half the quoted price.

When locking in the trade, there is no option to indicate completeness. In the past there was an option, but because they dont have one now, they should not take off from the TIV. On the print out it does note complete, but that is only because its default?

So the website still lists Crysis 2 for the Xbox 360 as a title for their 2 for $50 deal but when I try to look it up on estimator it will only bring up the PS3 version no matter what I do. Anyone else having this issue or could verify this problem?

yeah so i still never got a call back from USPS after i dumped my game off to them (in the mailbox). how does it take for USPS to transit my package to UPS?
yeah so i still never got a call back from USPS after i dumped my game off to them (in the mailbox). how does it take for USPS to transit my package to UPS?
So you punched in the usps tracking and there's no info? No mention of an "agent"?

Check the UPS tracking number instead on ups.com. Once an agent picks up the package from them USPS no longer tracks where your games are. UPS will be the one who will have a record.

Nothing :(

nothing again. what do you mean by agent?

i did call USPS and i told them that i left the package in my mailbox. they said they will send the memo out to all the usps stores notifying about my package and they will try to find the package and contact me. but nothing yet.

yeah, i also got 50% tiv cuz my games didn't have cases. I got $10 for MoH locked in at $20. I called and the girl on the customer service # (1-877-310-4227) was very nice and said that I should get full value. I said yeah cuz when you changed it from 30 to 14 days, you also changed it that you got full value as long as the game is playable and no chips/scratches/personal writing on it. I told her that I talked to the manager at bestbuy and they also said this was true... ie full value for game disks only. She said that the trade in specialist doesn't come in til Monday but that I should email them and they will get back to me. She made it seem like I would get my full credit, but who knows. That is pure bs tho.

When I dropped mine off at USPS and checked the tracking number it said that an agent picked it up. Then I looked back at the shipping label that BB gives you. In the middle of the label should be a UPS tracking number. That's what I used on UPS.com.

I will have to give them a call as well if my value is half of what I was promised. Thanks for the heads up.
I remember that I submitted my trade ins the day after the policy was in effect because I actually called bestbuytrade.com to confirm it.
So did I and I asked the dude twice if disc only would get the full estimate value....he said yes.

I fired off some emails to dealtree and best buy explaing the situation and the information given out. Between this and the random gift card problem, dealtree is kinda fuckING up recently after being solid for so long.

Still solid.

just got 2 new verification emails giving me the full 20 for my MoH's I sent in. No reply from dealtree at all, but I guess all is well and they probly just resent all verification emails to people that complained/ or just anyone who got 1/2 credit?
just to be on the safe side I might just send cases next time :)

hmm, Ill make sure to send an email later if I dont receive an ajustment. I also sent in a couple of split seconds in just sleeves, Im curious to see what happens with those once they receive them.

Does 14 days include holiday and Sundays? Mine just finally arrived, and if holidays and Sundays are counted then today is the 13th day. I just barely made it. Next time I'm definitely just going to give it to UPS. Going USPS and then UPS route just makes it take forever! Now, I wait to see if my games get full TIV or half.

guessing not but for your sake, hopefully they do. wow when people say their slow they really mean it. my package was delivered last last firday but still no confirmation email.

Any idea if they're taking non "limited edition"s of Crysis 2? My 360 copy doesn't say LE on it but I wonder how much it's worth.

Just compare the UPC.

I'm going to assume that as long as we have proof that it was delivered within 14 days then we still get the lock in value. It says on the first post, and at BB site must be received.

Does Best Buy care about games that are "not for resale?" I have a spare copy of DJ Hero to trade away. I'm thinking it's $7 at Best Buy and way cheaper elsewhere because they want the standalone retail copy. Going to give it a try later this afternoon regardless.

Alrighty. Thanks. The customer service people hate game trades, so hopefully they don't block me because there's no UPC. I'm sure I can argue something about how they could just type it in.
Says my package was signed for, but My Account does not show as received. And thanks to the holiday it was end of day 15...
It wont show received until a week later and then verified a week after that. It is literally a 4 week process. fucking ridiculous
Says my package was signed for, but My Account does not show as received. And thanks to the holiday it was end of day 15...
I have 2 packages that were received on 5/13 (verified by UPS tracking) and they still don't show as received under my account profile...

Yeah I need to trade in a 360 copy of Dead Space 2, but it was part of the collectors edition, so the UPC is different, I guess they'll take it in trade?

I traded in a copy Dragon Age 2 with a different UPC code than the one shown online and had no troubles at all. I've even traded games with Not For Resale marks on the back with no problems so you should be alright. I should mention this was all done through the online trade in service, not in-store.

just look it up and compare the UPC.

(I feel like i say this once a day.)

Well, I know what it trades for, and normally they just scan it and tell you a value. This UPC is different and isnt listed on their site, which is why I asked if they would take it. I'll end up taking it the store as well, dont feel like wasting so much time mailing it off.

Thanks for the answers.

if it's not listed, you might actually have more of a shot in store.

Just say "oh, you gotta type that one in." as normal as can be.;

same for me, I sent in two mario galaxys separately that arrived on that day. Whats funny is I sent in a game last week and it was processed the day it arrived.
5/13 mustve just been a bad day.

My store didn't want to take the not for resale copy of DJ Hero. They asked their manager, so I wasn't going to argue with them over it. E-mailed the trade in website, and the guy said the game just needs to be in good condition. I don't know, the tone of the e-mail made it sound like they desperately wanted the game. Whatever.

So, I'm seeing lots of horror stories about trading through mail. It's my first time doing this. Anything more I should know besides it taking a while? Bubble mailer a bad idea for sending one game?

One time I traded in-store and the employee scanned it and said the system didn't register my Mafia II greatest hits which had a different UPC than the standard one. He rejected it even though i told him he could manually type it in. He was being a stickler about it. So game trading with different UPC's in-store is YMMV.

I mail them in from now on. It takes a month but a gift card at a place we buy at regularly is just as good to me now then a month from now. Saves the time/hassle/gas.
