For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

Damn, all the other BB steelbooks outside of Batman Begins and Dark Knight are not on sale. Stores appear to have a TON of the 2 Batmen steelbooks...of course no restock on any of the others from what I've seen.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but you don't need to trade in anything to get a $5 off any bluray $9.99 coupon - there is another promo going on as noted in the ad where you just go to any kiosk, give them your cell phone number and they check to see if you qualify for a phone upgrade. Doesn't matter if you do end up qualifying or not, doesn't matter if you go and upgrade the phone or not, you get a $5 off any bluray coupon just for checking.

BTW has anyone checked to see if the coupons work automatically with titles that are under $9.99? There are some great blus on sale for $8 that would be perfect with this coupon...
Will the Best Buy Exclusive Edition of MI:4 be at the $9.99 price as well?
BTW which is the Best Buy exclusive edition? I picked up the one with the slipcase with a red sticker on it talking about extended footage, but no mention of being a Best Buy exclusive from what I saw. Right next to about 10 of them were 10 more without the slipcase and with a different cover pic.
Grabbed:

Frequency
Maverick
Final Destination 5
The Butterfly Effect
God Bless America ($15, but my fiancee and I are dying to see it)
Damn they wouldnt sell me Butterfly Effect. Why am I not surprised?

Hmm that must be the promotion the guy I talked to was thinking about and why he told me my provider was excluded. I managed to get Goodfellas Steelbook for $5 but it was apparently mismarked. Same for the Dazed and Confused I saw I imagine? I'm almost positive there was a steelbook for that as well which was marked $9.99 along with the standard blu copies.

Edit: Ok it was the Criterion Collection for Dazed and Confused which has a booklet and poster with it.

I hijacked this pic from ebay, the slipcover is slightly different, there is an extra blu ray and there is a Best Buy exc. sticker. It was confusing at the BB i went to,they only had the exc. version on the shelf right by the $9.99 tag,so i grabbed that one,it rang up $29.99,the guy said they had the reg. one, which for the life of me i couldnt find anywhere, but he went and grabbed me one.

love this promo.

batman begins and dark knight steelbooks, also got the 3 blade films. had a 10 dollar rewards cert to use as well.

I knew I was going to receive the movie cash for the batman films, but blade and blade trinity also came with dark knight rises movie cash. so I spent 15$ and tax out of pocket, but got 20 bucks in movie cash. hooray

Inception came with batman movie cash as well as the matrix, v for vendetta and some others.

Got Inception and my brother got both Batmangs. Wanted Moon, Superbad, and Ice Age 3 but they were OOS.

Yeah, one coupon. I think most of us are after more than one movie.

They don't. They never have.

I want to get Butterfly Effect, but I have the Canadian release. However, the director's cut isn't on that disc, so I may still grab the US release..
Yeah, one coupon. I think most of us are after more than one movie.
Yes, but 1 more coupon helps. Picked up my first 6 with 5 - $.25 Dollar Tree clearance DVD's + that mobile upgrade check coupon:

Batman Begins steelbook w/extra feature & movie cash
The Dark Knight steelbook w/extra feature & movie cash
Ice Age Combo Pack w/Digital Copy and $5 movie cash
Ice Age Combo 2 Pack w/Digital Copy and $5 movie cash
Ice Age Combo 3 Pack w/Digital Copy and $5 movie cash
Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol limited BB 3-disc edition**

**I needed a manager override for this one. The cashier checked the ad and adjusted the price to $9.99. Manager entered required National Security Code. Coupon did not come off adjusted price. Cashier adjusted the price to $4.99. Manager once again entered security code, thanked me for my patience and apologized for the delays.:D

You made out good and got the better MI 4 version, the BB exclusive wasnt supposed to ring up for $9.99,thus the override was needed. But its their fault for putting the movie right where the $9.99 sign is ;)

Is there anywhere to dump this movie cash? I already have my tickets for Batman and I have $10 I can't use. And I have $5 in Ice Age cash. Do folks buy these?

If you're just handing them out, I wouldn't mind one of those Batman codes!
If you're just handing them out, I wouldn't mind one of those Batman codes!
Me to, I could throw some coke points your way if you're into saving them.

I got off to a slow start today with the trade ins. I got rid of my last 2 promo discs that I had lying around and picked up U.S. Marshals and Demolition Man for $5 each.

Not bad for a couple of Snapper/Flipper replacements.

Also grabbed KOA: Reckoning with the @gamer coupon while I was there. Great deal for $10

Speaking of movie cash, the $5 Ice Age cash is toward a 3-D upgrade. Not sure how this works, but we don't do 3D. Does anyone know if this will just work like a coupon for $5 off the 2-D version?

Before I make an ass of myself when contacting BB customer service - When you trade in the DVDs, you should be able to get the coupons without having to buy a blu-ray on the spot, correct? That way I can use a coupon later if I can't find anything now.

It works for 2D

Took in 5 movies today for trade and decided to pick up only 3 at the moment. Cashier was about to throw away my coupons and I told her I only picked-up 3 of the 5 and she handed me the whole thing with out marking it, I now have 5 movies to get instead of 2. Thanks new girl.

That is correct, just have to use them before they expire.

I didn't see this anywhere but they do take in the slim cases right? I was at the Dollar Tree today and they had their $1 movies for $0.25 each. Going to try trading in 5 tomorrow before I buy a bulk of them to use for trade bait but I wanted to confirm this first.

Picked up Spawn, Bourne Trilogy, Taxi Driver, The Illusionist and Pirates 4 for my dad today. Got rid of some shit DVDs too. Good times.

Traded in 4 of "The Basketball Fix" for my BRs today :) no issue at all.

Took in 5 crap movies, girl didn't even open the cases to check if the discs were in there. She counted them, and rang up the promo on the register, and stapled the receipt to one coupon. Literally took 2 minutes, we spent more time waiting in line than we did at the CS counter. We also did the upgrade check on both of our phones, for a total of 7 coupons.

We ended up with:
Batman Begins (Steelbook)
The Dark Knight (Steelbook)
Mission Impossible: GP
Due Date
Gettysburg
Coraline
Parenthood (used a $3 Universal coupon on top of the $5 without issue)

All for $32 + tax.

We're going to hit the other BB by us tomorrow and hopefully get the rest we wanted that this BB didn't have.

Thanks, yeah my lazy ass went and looked it up on google images after I posted. I *think* that was the other version I saw, but it had no slipcase and no stickers on it. It just said BluRay DVD Digital Copy on the top which the 2 disc one I got also said, so I just grabbed the one with the slipcase (2 disc). Thanks.
No one ever said they were.
No shit. I never said anyone said they would be. I was just hoping they would all be on sale at the $9.99 price point as they were at the beginning of June. Appears though that some people are getting them PMed by some (clueless) employees down to $9.99 if their corresponding regular versions are advertised/shelf labeled at $9.99, or if the regular versions are OOS but the steelbooks still available.
Yeah, one coupon. I think most of us are after more than one movie.
LOL yeah but we can have our phone number checked multiple times at different locations in store and/or by different employees in store. (as well as separate BBY locations.
Or use a scanner/printer/copier BUT I DO NOT APPROVE OF THAT SORT OF NAUGHTINESS.
They don't. They never have.
Au contrair, I recall the first time they did this the coupon worked at the register on blus less than $9.99, although it was YMMV whether the employees would agree to scan the coupons and let the transaction through. But the computer applied it to $7.99 and other sub $9.99 priced blus.

Buy a ticket for Batman or Ice Age, go to another movie that's playing at about the same time. Problem solved. ;)

My Best Buy is always on top of this promotion, which is a good thing since I don't have to endure any headaches, but they never seem to do the same thing twice.

One time they gave me all the coupons. Another time they gave me one coupon with a receipt and I had to point the receipt to the cashier for how many discounts I should be getting.

This time I had to grab the Blu-rays and take them to the CSR counter along with the DVDs to turn in -- so for today I had to wait in line to be told to go grab the Blu-rays and bring them back, then had to wait in line a second time for the transaction. :wall:

Speaking of the movie cash, I haven't gotten any since they used to put an actual movie cash certificate in the DVD/blu case, and with this set the nearest theater participating is LA Live, which I don't feel like going down to. The printout just shows $5 movie cash to be redeemed by the theater, no mention of name or participating chains etc. So is it possible to take this to say a Pacific or AMC theater that wasn't listed on the site? This is basically a "manufacturer's coupon", so they should be able to take it right?

What about price matching? Can I get a movie price matched to 9.99 and use a coupon? Looking at Dodgeball... It's currently 9.99 at Target, but 12.99 at BB.

I don't think that works with this promo. It's definitely YMMV as last time they ran this promo I was told I couldn't combo the $5 trade in w/ a manufacturer's coupon although many others here have reported success with that.

Picked up 5 movies
Batman Begins (Steelbook)
The Dark Knight (Steelbook)
Mission Impossible: GP
Ice Age
Ice Age 2
-------------------------
Will come back tomorrow or later this week for more ;)

Got the Batman Begins Steelbook this afternoon- tempted to grab Watchmen Directors Cut and The Matrix after seeing them in the same display...

Batman (Steelbook)
The Dark Knight (Steelbook)
MI4
Date Night (I wanted the holographic sleeve)
Matrix Reloaded/Revolution (cause I bought the Matrix steelbook and prefer to have all of the movie series)

I have another batch of 5 to trade in before I have to loot through thrift stores/dollar stores for cheap movies.

Saw The Fifth Element in store (1 copy) but the art cover looks so...cheap? I could probably print out a better quality art cover.
my batman begins didn't come with the ultraviolet copy. worth going back for?
I don't think there is a slip. I think there is just a code on the back of the Ultra Violet sticker that's on the plastic wrap.

damn, i swear there were slips for the ultraviolet codes inside of my steelbooks for DKR and Batman Beings (SB) when i opened them last week. haha maybe my memory fails me.
damn, i swear there were slips for the ultraviolet codes inside of my steelbooks for DKR and Batman Beings (SB) when i opened them last week. haha maybe my memory fails me.
UV codes are in slips on the inside. Movie cash codes are on the back of the sticker.

Tempted to get the BATMAN movies and the ICE AGE for my daughter to see it. Not sure if she has the desire to see it though.....is it 5 year old appropriate?

Grabbed Mission Impossible, Due Date & Blade yesterday. My store was out of Blade 2 - I'm hoping they restock before the $9.99 sale ends. They can keep Blade 3, that movie was horrible and I don't have that hang-up where I have to own every movie in a series. ;)
Got to go back to bestbuy. My copy of Inception was missing the movie.
Or MAYBE this is all a dream in which the movie isn't in the case, and you just need to wake up!

Hey guys, how do you get the $10 savings if you purchase more than $50 worth of movies together with this trade and save deal?
