For those that were speculating, I can confirm that the program will be starting up again on 7/15/2012 and running until 8/11/2012. Just like last time it will be good for ANY blu ray 9.99 and up.

There was a note in the terms of this promotion that this time around if you visit the best buy mobile dept in the first week and do a free upgrade check for your cell phone account, it will entitle you to one trade and save coupon for the $5 off a blu.
Credit: midgat0 from Blu-ray.com

Now, here are some commonly asked questions.

1. How does this work?

Basically, you bring in a DVD to Customer Service and they will give you a $5 off Blu-Ray coupon. Pretty simple.

2. Can you use it on any Blu-Ray?

Only on Blu-Rays $9.99 and up. Previously, music Blu-Rays have been excluded, but everything else is game.

3. Is there a limit of coupons you can receive?

5 per day seems to be the limit.

4. When does the coupons expire?

Last day of the promotion (8/11).

5. Do multiple disc DVDs = multiple coupons?

No. If you trade in a TV show season boxset = 1 coupon, not 3 or 4.

6. Can I trade in ANY DVD?

Naturally, they won't accept DVD-R/RW's nor will they accept pornos. So, no trading in Wii Like 2 fuck Part 3.

7. Can this be applied to past orders?

No. At most you can do a return/rebuy, but you would have to pay the current price so it may not be worth it.

8. Do I get the coupon back if I return the Blu-Ray I used a coupon on?

YMMV. Rule of thumb, be sure you are content with what you're getting before you use a coupon on it.

9. Do the DVDs I trade have to have the actual artwork and any inserts?

YMMV, but unless you get a real douche at CS, most won't care as long as it's in a case. (Generic DVD case will do)

10. I'm low on DVDs, any suggestions?

Dollar stores and places like Big Lots will occasionally carry $1 DVDs that you can get to trade in to Best Buy. Garage sales work as well if you can find one that is selling DVDs on the cheap.

11. Do coupons stack?

Nope. 1 coupon = 1 Blu-Ray purchase. Of course you can use multiple coupons in one transaction if you are purchasing the same amount of Blus.

Picked up Grosse Point Blank, High Fidelity, The Patriot, Maverick, and The Notebook (for the Mrs.) today.

Still have 6 coupons left. Debating calling the Premier Silver line to see if they will help me get copies of Total Recall, Sandlot, and a few others since no stores in the area have them any more.

Can't hurt to try. They've been great with helping me out in the past.

Second Good the Bad and the Weird. I forgot about that one. Didnt have any Total Recall MBE at the Lincoln NE store either. Sucks.
Wow. That's insane. Of course people don't buy blurays for superior picture and sound. As consumers, we want dvd quality blurays, but we want to pay more than DVD costs. That makes perfect sense.
It made a huge ruckus when it was released and people were wondering what the differences were between the non-SE and the SE. The audio is the main issue and it's a huge difference between the two.

The BB-exclusive combo version has the SE disc with the TrueHD audio track included with a DVD copy of the film, which was the one I picked up. There was discussion on Blu-Ray.com about the BB-exclusive combo version having the SE disc or the non-SE disc and it came about that the SE disc was included.

It's almost as if the non-SE was the "rental" version because none of the special features are included along with the gimped audio.

Great CGI movie which will entertain kids and adults as well. The movie has morals in it, so it's especially great for kids. They'll come away from it thinking a bit more about the environment.

5 stars in my book and I'm a 29 year old dude w/a wife and no kids......yet

I miss those days. I'm 29 with a wife, a two and a half year old, and a six week old. I keep buying games and movies while telling myself, "I'll eventually have time for these". :)

Thanks for the info about The Lorax. I liked the book as a kid, but was a little nervous that they added a romantic angle for the observing boy. Seems like they really expanded his role for the movie.

Ahhh, fond memories. I held out until 30, instant family as my wife had 2 from a previous marriage...went all in and things are good but rough in the first few years.

Now that the kids are out of the house, plenty of time for gaming!
Does anybody know what day BB does their re-stocks? Not one store in my area has a copy of Total Recall.
Mine says every Friday... they may or may not have TotalRecall:MBE in that shipment. Also, it was cutting it too close for the $5 off ending this Saturday. So, I've to ordered Total Recall:MBE online to be delivered to store for pickup by Thursday, I do the return and rebuy with the U&S later.

Damn it. I showed up too late yesterday to get High Fidelity or Grosse Pointe Blank, but Total Recall: MBE miraculously showed up on the shelf and I got the last copy, so that's something.

BB website now says ships in 1 day. It used to say Backordered 7-30 day shipping. Maybe a surge of stock is a day or two away.

Yesterday I get off work and double check online to see MBE Total Recall is at my closest BB.
A few moments later I arrive at the store, trade in DVD and grab a coupon. Go to find the movie, it's not on the shelf. Check the inventory. Some jerk bought it.

I later order the MBE Total Recall online for a store pickup at a store kinda close to my work. Today I picked it up and in order to use the coupon I have to wait 2-24 hours for the system to process the order as picked up. Then return the movie and rebuy with the coupon.

There's got to be a better way.

FWIW This version does not have the coupon, I noticed the regular edition does have the coupon. Pretty much the difference in packaging is a silver sticker on the MBE and a subtle border at the top. I'm kinda torn about not having a coupon.

Hmm, odd that instock check showed it as they normally show instock if they have 3+. Maybe it was possible they all got bought but sounds like you didn't let much time go by before going.

Also odd about the turn on the pickup processing. I've done a PM/return/rebuy on an instore pickup before no problems under a similar situation (Gamer coupon). On top of that, I've always received a pick up confirmation email by the time I get back to my computer. Only 10-15mins after pickup. You must have had some sort of bad CSR or something.

Only the original Total Recall has the Movie Cash. The MBE does NOT. Other posters have confirmed this at their BB stores and I found the same to be true at my local BB stores.

That being said, the MBE is a significant improvement over the standard edition.

Yeah the original Total Recall has Expend 2 movie cash but it does show in the ad that the MBE should have it. Whatevs. Id just like to grab a MBE for 5.

Here's what I did. Placed online order for instore pickup. Went to store's customer service. Explained I wanted to cancel the online order in order to use the coupon.

When I tried to pickup/return/rebuy previously I had to wait a day before I could return the item.

Hope that helps.
picked up coraline 2 disc version, T-2 skynet edition, The boondocks saints 1-2,& the matrix double pack
was thinking of picking up coraline 2-d, but wondering if the 3d version is any good.

I still gotta go in today to get return/rebuy u&s coupon for TR MBE and swap MI3 for 3 disc version. Have gotten a handful of movies so far, eyeing Mortal Kombat 1 now, REALLY wish Heat was $9.99.

have you guys seen a poster on the end caps offering "buy 2 blu rays for $12.99 or buy 3 blu rays for $14.99 (selections may vary)."

Some bestbuy stores i've been to had it up while others did not. I wonder if this is programmed into their national computer or just specific stores. there were random movies on the endcap. I wonder if it works with most $7.99 titles since most of the movies were $7.99 and $9.99; i'm tempted to ask a blue shirt at another bestbuy to scan random movies to check.

FINALLY! I checked this morning and no Total Recall MBE in the immediate area, but on my way home from the water park with my family, I checked online again and my local BB finally got a restock. When I stopped in, they weren't on the shelf yet and someone had to grab one from the back.

Just checked my stores and they have it as well.

Now to see if I can get my local BB to allow an exchange of a movie I bought with the $5 U&S coupon that I never opened for this.

The number of movies I have bought through this program is (IMO) absurd; prior to this I had taken a hiatus from buying movies altogether for a good half year or so. I think I've doubled my Blu Ray collection as a result. OTOH here's what I've gotten and this is just from these past few weeks not counting the last time they ran this promotion. Some of these were more than 4.99 sadly, I've even bought maybe 5 or 6 movies as well at Fry's. Tomorrow's hit will be goodfellas steelbook unless you guys recommend passing on it; it's my last one, I swear LOL.

Mi3: GP 3 disc version
Total Recall MBE
Boondock Saints
Taxi Driver
Big Lebowski
Blade I & Blade II
Sin City
Platoon
Fast Five
Heat (actually didn't use a coupon but PM'd)
Kick Ass
Leon the Professional
Fifth Element
Pulp Fiction
Good Bad Weird
Natural Born Killers
Batman Begins + DK

My local store restocked on Planet Earth, High Fidelity, Grosse Pointe Blank and Transformers: Dark of the Moon 3D out of nowhere, so I picked them up. But it looks like my Dark of the Moon was reshrinkwrapped because it definitely didn't look like a professional job. The discs were all in perfect condition with no finger prints, yet I'm still concerned.

I traded in two DVDs today for The Good, The Bad, The Weird and Collateral. I know the latter is awesome, and I've got high hopes for the former being good (I tend to enjoy Eastern action movies ).

Did your DotM have the 3D sleeve? If so, mine was the same way. I thought it was kind of odd too, but have seen it before so didn't think twice about it.

It didn't when I bought it, but it does now. ;)

Lynnwood, WA BB didn't take one of my DVDs that was in a generic DVD case with no artwork (former rental). He even asked his manager and they wouldn't take it. They did take 4 other rentals though.

I don't know if this is true or just another story, but here is what I was told today at Best Buy. I ordered a few blu-rays for store pickup yesterday, then went today to get them (over 24 hours). He said had I ordered them same day and came in, they would not have been able to cancel the order and immediately sell the items to me, due to stock numbers being invalid. But because the order was in the system for 24 hours, he WAS able to cancel the order and sell me the movies right away (therefore allowing me to use my Upgrade & Save coupons).

i know what you mean. i didn't own any blu rays before this promotion and wasn't planning to buy anymore movies at all. i think i ended up picking over 60 blu rays and even went to frys to pick up some cheap blu rays and ending up starting a collection. and i still have 15 coupons to use before tomorrow. blu rays are getting addicting.

I'm having a new issue with BB.com today. Items show up as available at my local stores (e.g. Total Recall MBE). I add to cart and they add fine (a known issue with BB is sometimes it says available and when you click add to cart, it changes to unavailable). Then I proceed to checkout, login, and THEN it tells me the items are not available for pickup and will have to be shipped to store. It even told me this for an item that shows unavailable for shipping.

So in summary, Best Buy's found yet another way to ShaqFu-up e-commerce.

I had been debating whether to use my last U&S on TR:MBE (already have it on BR in a 2-disc set with T2) or Terminator: Salvation, which I don't own. Guess this makes it easy.

A few of my local stores have TR: MBE inventoried incorrectly as they only have the non-MBE version of TR in-stock.

I had a hard time finding anything I wanted this go round. Only picked up: The Expendables, the Batman steelbooks, Green Lantern (I know it's supposed to be terrible, but I want to see it).

I still have a huge cardboard box full of DVDs for this. Hopefully they keep doing this every few months.

Not sure if this was ever talked about but if a Blu-ray is not carried or in stock at a store you can do a special order with customer service at the store and get the 5 dollar off said purchase.
Just have the items rung up and let them scan the coupon. The price will be reduced. The movies will be mailed to your address and most if not all Blu-rays ship for free. I did this with 3 titles the store did not carry. If you are unsure you can have the employee ring up items for special order and have them scan coupon. It worked for me. No override needed.

$9.99-5.00 = 4.99
Collateral

$9.99-5.00 = 4.99
The Descent

$9.99-5.00 = 4.99
Road to Perdition

Are you sure? I think it may be YMMV.
When I tried that last time with my store, the clerk say sorry.. I have to wait till the next shipment to come in.

For example: Total Recall: MBE.

Stop showing me movies! Only 2 days left >< I'm going for Goodfellas and Collateral today. I know Goodfellas is a great movie, but is the BB Steelbook release anything to be concerned about over other versions? Think they'll triple dip?

I guess this is more of a policy thing, it stinks. I'm 95% sure they just "Recycle" these movies or something to that effect; I've brought in some sketchy stuff TBH.

Yep. Ran into that at my store today. Didn't want to get the old version, so I passed on it.

Ended up picking up...
How to Train your Dragon 3D
Monsters vs. Aliens 3D
Adventures in Babysitting

I've probably picked up 25 movies during the deal. Best Buy has definitely made money on me... that's for sure.
Goodfellas steelbook isn't $9.99 is it?
I should have listened lol. The Steelbook was $19.99, it's the plain jane version that is $9.99. Since they sold out of the steelbook anyways I stuck with the regular edition.
Did your DotM have the 3D sleeve? If so, mine was the same way. I thought it was kind of odd too, but have seen it before so didn't think twice about it.
Mine had a sleeve and had the generic shrink wrap job as well. Was less worried about it because it did have the little sticker on the wrap with the picture of the discs included.

Went in yesterday to get a couple more to celebrate payday. It's aggravating I collect my paycheck from Best Buy, then turn right around and spend it there, too. Anyways, I ended up getting Gangs of New York for $5, American History X for $5, then I pricematched Walmart for $10 and used my coupon to make it $5. So $15 for what would've originally cost $45.

Went to my local store yesterday. They had one copy of The Expendables, but the in store kiosk said no TR MBE were there...

So I went to CS and they said "...we don't have it and according to the system it's an item we just don't carry at this location, so we won't be getting any".

They called a store 30-45 min north of me and thankfully they had one and put it on hold. I would never drive 30-45 for a $5 movie, but I was headed up there anyway to hang out with some friends for the night, so it worked out OK.
