Best local co-op games on 360?

"Army of Two" is a good one, "Kane and Lynch" is also pretty good if you can get used to the whole shooting mechanic which can be really annoying, "Halo 3" and "Marvel: Ultimate Alliance" are also pretty good.

co-op, always co-op

sure im down for some co op i have kameo,GOW,halo 3, that still needs to be co-oped also a bunch of XBLA games that would be fun for co -op.

I'm a relative newcomer to the 360, having been a lifelong Nintendo devotee. But I love the 360 so far and I have to say, it's been getting a lot more play than my Wii of late (though Brawl has been keeping me honest).

Anyway, I guess with all of my experience with Nintendo, I've just learned to take local co-op for granted. So when I got my 360, I got a second controller and expected that there would be a lot of games my wife and I could play together, either against one-another or on Live. But it's been harder than I thought to figure out which games we can play together, especially online.

I've got LEGO Star Wars: Complete Saga (though we haven't started it yet) and Earth Defense Force, and I know those both have local co-op.

So what are your favorite local co-op games on the system? Also, when playing co-op locally, if both players sign in using their gamertags, do both gamertags get achievements unlocked while playing together?

Gears of War
Army of Two
Halo 3
Culdcept Saga
TMNT 1989

Yes, you both earn achievements if you're both signed in with different profiles. Online or off.

Rock Band, Rock Band, Rock Band.

and also Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Halo 3 and Gears of War.

If you enjoy fighting games together there's also Virtua Fighter 5 and Dead or Alive 4 out now, and Street Fighter 2 HD and Soul Calibur IV coming this year.

Lastly, Live Arcade offers some great local multiplayer games: Streets of Rage 2, Carcasonne/Catan, Metal Slug 3 and Bomberman Live, to name a few.

Don't think she'd like fighters and while the thought of her playing Halo 3 or Gears is amusing, I don't ever see it happening. But yeah, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is another one I plan to pick up (especially since she liked X-Men Legends on the GameCube), and Rock Band, eventually (she was drum captain in HS, so she's got the skills).

Depends on the game. Unfortunately both Lego SW II and EDF only give achievements to the first player. Gears of War and Army of Two allow both players to sign in and get achievements.

What about Complete Saga? Anyone know?

While they don't fit the HD/updated graphics bill, myself and friends had much fun with Streets of Rage 2, Contra, TMNT: Arcade Game, Metal Slug, and a couple other titles already mentioned. Of course, fun is subjective, and our love of classic gaming may have swayed things, but, generally, I think those games are fun, even if TMNT is a little simple.
