Big Daddy Cool's wrestling topic

ugh. Rave is the next X-Pac. He looks like a 9th grader in 1991, his wrestling is merely average, his promos - well, there's a reason he relied on Prince Nana for so long - , and he's got nothing going for him aside from the most inexplicable heat I've ever seen in pro wrestling. People HATE him, and it doesn't seem like X-Pac heat either. It's more a "this guy really gets pissed if you throw toilet paper at him, so let's do it!" thing. He gets great heat, but I'll be damned if I ever understand why.

Roderick and PAC (in the air) were PWG Tag Team Champions. They lost the belt that night to Generico and Steen, setting up El Steenerico against The Briscoes in PWG sometime soon.

How was PAC? I've heard good things.

Mostly because he comes across as a pretty boy bitch. Like Randy Orton, except a much bigger douchebag.

I will say that his House of the Rising Sun theme was a stroke of brilliance and was one of the main reasons he got the reaction he did at ROH shows. When that music hit, it felt like a star was walking through the ropes. If he keeps the theme, which I know he won't, I could see him getting the same heat he got in ROH.

He is the only guy other than The Rock who I've heard 'Die **** Die!" chants aimed at. After the new theme, he kind of got treated like a Tweener, even if some people still shit all over him.

I remember seeing him live in Edison back in February in a match with Nigel and in the middle of an armlock just up and puking in the middle of the ring for absolutely no reason. That was some weird shit...

PAC was excellent. Everyone compares him to Jack Evans, which I guess is fair, except for that PAC actually sells moves and makes them look believable instead of Evans and his Gumby routine. Jack is always fun live just because there's a believable chance he'll end up breaking his neck, but his style exposes him as a one-trick pony.

Apparently Jimmy Rave asked for his release from ROH after being injured in the ring AGAIN. PWInsider is reporting he's nursing an ear injury that could put him out of action for awhile.

I'm watching a lot more of the Indies now after buying the Respect is Earned PPV last month. I'm really digging a few of the ROH folks (Briscoes, McGuinness, and El Generico) and how they perform versus stuff like WWE/TNA.

Also, wasn't it Jimmy Rave that was supposed to get a title shot against Morishima at the next ROH PPV that was gonna be taped and that was gonna air in September??

I was watching the James Bond movie "You Only Live Twice" this morning, and noticed (thanks to IMDB) that the Samoan lookin' car driver Bond fights in the Osato building is "High Chief" Peter Maivia. Knowing that now, holy crap does he look like The Rock. Also, he was the fight scene coordinator for the film, and relative to other fight scenes of the era, I must say this one was excellent.

Kept changing channels between watching Smackdown & playing Onimusha 3. From what I saw, that was a crappy Smackdown. I'm guessing they added that "McMahon returns with a vengeance" ticker after Cole & JBL did commentary in studio. Because they made no mention of it during the tag match.

One thing I'm hoping they do with Raw is get rid of Coach as interim GM. Hasn't he been interim GM since WM? I don't care if it's Shane McMahon that's the new GM, just someone that isn't boring to listen to.

I liked it when Regal filled in a few weeks ago for Coach. I don't know what it is about Regal, but he is perfect in a GM role. Regal is all around awesome.

I highly enjoyed the time years ago when Regal was the regular GM (or was it commisioner?). When e replaced Coach a few weeks back, I got excited because I thought it was permanent. I wonder why they would want to keep Coach, other than the fact that people hate him?

Saturday Observer site news update - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/....asp?aID=20358

SD did its usual 2.6 overnight rating, and was #1 among all networks in the 18-49 age group. TNA is in talks with Konnan to return - it will likely not happen. Ever. AJ Styles will be working for Booker's PWA fed on the 31st of August, facing Joey Mercury. Lawler's working house shows against Booker over the weekend.

Fight Network column on wrestling losing its hardcore fans, and Slammiversary being projected at having 12-15,000 buys - http://www.thefightnetwork.com/news_detail.php?nid=4462

This is deep. I just saw the video.
Sid Vicious' brocken leg.

I was reading on how he wants to make a comeback with the WWE. Did he leave the WWE in bad terms? I would like to see him on tv again.

Sid Vicious vs Batista would be good.
but if they did take him in I hope they wouldn't make him a monster like Snitsky.
TNA is in talks with Konnan to return - it will likely not happen. Ever.
If TNA suddenly decides to pay for his kidney replacement then perhaps he might. Honestly I can see both sides of the issue - TNA isn't responsible for his past alcohol/drug issues that lead to this. But on the other hand TNA hired him and has used him fully knowing he had health issues.

Personally I think its best for PR reasons above all else that they pay for it. Given how much money they are spending on far worse things (ie: Pacman Jones, Stomper, the whole VKM angle) along with the godly amount of money they are shelling out for the likes of Kurt Angle, Scott Steiner, Christian Cage, etc.... I don't think it will hurt TNA anymore to fork over those few dollars to help Konnan. TNA can spin it around too to the public saying something to the effect of "we take care of our wrestlers health issues."

On the other hand this could give a message that its okay for the talent to waste themselves on booze and drugs because TNA might just fork over the money for whatever operations down the road they will need for the abuse they are doing by overdoing the booze and drugs.

TNA has a LOT more issues besides this to deal with right now. From needing to get an wellness standards in place to better booking/angles.... TNA isn't nearly as bad as the WWE at the moment but its far from perfect.

I'll say this much.... that ending segment on Impact has the smell of Russoism all over it. Which is something I'm afraid we'll see more and more if the ratings go up. But as of right now this week's ratings according to TNAWrestlingNews.com ended at a 1.1 which is around the average.

In other news from TNAWrestlingNews.com its reported that TNA will be going two hours by September or October. On what network is unclear given the rampant rumors of TNA talking with Fox.

Also TNA is planning on at least 96 non-TV events in 2008 alongside every PPV being outside of Orlando/Universal Studios.

Spoiler on who attacked Abyss under the ring.... some might know this already but this is an official confirmation from the certain individual in question.....

TNAWrestlingNews.com reader Diego sent this along:

Ricky Banderas/Judas Mesias talked with 'Noti AAA' which is the blog of the AAA website about him coming to TNA.

Banderas made clear that it wasn't Konnan or Ron Killings blocking him to debut on past iMPACT tapings or that he will leave AAA now that he is in TNA. Banderas noted that his official debut will be on Sunday, August 12th, at Hard Justice with an angle making him Abyss's worst nightmare. He said he was nervous since it's a whole new fanbase he is about to experience, saying that the northamerican fans are very special. The second date pending was Monday, August 13th, on the iMPACT tapings where he will appear again tormenting Abyss. He notes that they will have photos of it on the blog that week. After that he returns to Mexico for an event.

He also mentioned he would never leave Antonio Peña's promotions since he is happy & won't disappoint them. Banderas & TNA management had a meeting to organize the dates in a way Banderas could appear in AAA & TNA.

According to reports from fans at the Wheeling, WV house show, Santino Marella may have injured is shoulder or collarbone. Marella appeared to be injured after taking Umaga’s spinning side slam. The referee then threw up the X and Umaga went for the Spike to win the match.

Afterwards Marella was helped to the back alongside the trainer while favoring his shoulder or collarbone. No other details have emerged, we will update you when we receive new information.

Oh that rascal Kurt Angle at it once again..... from the Iowa TNA house show.
Jeremy Borash does a TNA Today promo and says Cage vs. Angle is for the title. Cage tries to heel the crowd and they chant “YOU’RE MY HERO”. He tries harder and they chant “INSTANT CLASSIC”. Cage says we’re rude for interrupting, and that Des Moines is the asscrack of America and no good wrestlers ever came from here. Angle comes out and says “Apparently you forgot Cael Sanderson and Dan Gable. They kick ass! And I'm gonna kick YOUR ass!" Crowd did do a brief “Joe’s gonna kill you” chant before this, but he said he’d worry about that Sunday. Cage tells our side up yours after an “over here” chant - then hits an elbow to the throat and gets the crowd behind Angle. A random “F##K JOHN CENA chant starts out of nowhere. Angle hits Christian with a belly to belly suplex off the top. Angle hits Olympic Slam, but the ref's knocked out. Tomko does run in, but Angle kicks out at 2. Angle reverses the Unprettier into an Ankle lock. Christian taps out for the Angle win. Angle takes the mic and thanks Des Moines. He leads a TNA chant, then a F##K John Cena chant.
TNA is gone from YouTube:

TNA airs Exclusively on Spike TV
Spike TV is owned by Viacom
Viacom is Suing YouTube for unauthorized Reproductions of Privately held productions IE Daily Show, Colbert Report, South Park, and various MTV Music Videos and Content.

As a whole, TNA partnered with YouTube without the consent of Spike and now that TNA Clips are becoming more viewed on the net, it can be assumed it is hurting the Broadcast of the TNA on Spike. Also, Spike maybe pulling the plug due to talks with of leaving the network. Some footage can be seen on the Spike TV website but it's through their own broadcast tools and not run through YouTube.

Daily Show and Colbert Report and South Park Clips are removed from there as well and are removed Daily.
I hope that injury means he can come back repackaged as Boris Alexiev in a few months.
Nah, they'll probably send him back to OVW. They would have to admit the gimmick was bad if he came back as Alexiev.

Hopefully they take a look at the ratings and start to realize that they need to stop being so prideful. They had a great character (I have only seen a few promos, but they were 10X better than anything he did as Marella) and they scrapped it.

No need to worry about the ratings any more, Vince is back on Monday :applause:

Rambling promos that go on about nothing for way too long.........CHECK
Vince on Raw for at least one hour out of the 2.........CHECK
Me not watching any WWE programming from now on and actually finding something decent to watch on a Monday night.........CHECK

They made Jamal into Umaga, so turning a phony Italian into a phony Russian is possible. Not likely, though, for the foreseeable future. A damn shame, really, since he's a decent wrestler (though it's hard to see that when he gets zero offense in a match).

Come on back to Louisville!

Wow, if I'm reading the reports right. WWE is scrambling to try to get ratings up. One thing that is on the table at the moment is to get rid of the tri-brands and merging the rosters. If it does happen, it will be announced monday night.

Man, I'm hoping it's true, there's so many shitty wrestlers that they can release if they merge the rosters and have one big storyline instead of 3 different storylines. I guess Funaki & Val Venis(and hopefully The Miz) would finally get released if it happens.

There's no goddamned difference between the shows anyway. The formats are the same, the writing is the same, the production is the same. The only thing that varies are the wrestlers, and even their matches are mostly the same.

They already merged the rosters prior to WrestleMania - there's no surprise when guys show up on other shows. The only change merging the rosters will have is making the wrestlers work more days per week, and more jobbers will disappear from TV altogether (including your beloved Stevie Richards).

I think they need to have fewer PPVs: ask yourself this: name *ONE* match from this year's No Way Out, or Backlash. Give yourself ten seconds. 20? 30?

Yeah, I thought so too. I can't remember a fucking thing that happened this year. And it is not because I'm too stupid to remember; it just isn't memorable.
I think they need to have fewer PPVs:
Yeah, they need to ditch ONS, Cyber Sunday & New Year's Revolution. Those have done horrible buy rates the past two years and it'll bring the PPVs down to one a month. Because two a month just seems like overkill for consumers. Why pay $35 for one on the 5th when there's another one on the 29th?

The only thing I remember from this year's Backlash is McMahon became the ECW Champion & Cena made someone tap(like all his matches).

I turned on AAA. Ron Killings just cut a promo with X-Pac and the 2 are now about to wrestle in some sort of match with Headhunter 1, El Zorro, Latin Lover, and... that reptile guy from he-Man, accompanied by Yoda?

The main event of this week's AAA is very good; it's Cibernetico versus El Mesias in a dog collar match.

I don't know if they'll air Triple Mania XV on regular tv, but Sabu makes an appearance on that show.

Dave Meltzer is reporting that after WWE first received the 2.5 RAW rating last week, there was serious panic at WWE headquarters. One idea that was being tossed around at the time was to combine the RAW, ECW and SmackDown rosters and do away with the tri-branded formats. Nothing will probably come of this, but the idea was being tossed around. Either way, expect WWE to somewhat start all over tomorrow night on RAW.

*shakes head*

Nice video. A pleasant reminder that cruiserweight wrestling from WCW was phenomenal.

EDIT: I don't see WWE making dramatic changes starting tomorrow. How ironic would it be that, for all the times WWE made excuses for sagging ratings trends, and made poor booking decisions based on those trends, the first time they have a *proven* measurement error in regards to the rating, they flip the fuck out and restart everything?

That's why I don't see it happening. WWE has a real excuse right now for poor ratings. Tomorrow will be the same as it ever was, but with a mild ratings increase (I predict 3.7) due to people tuning in assuming major changes.

WRESTLING legend Hulk Hogan has lashed out at the industry which made him a megastar.

And he has demanded an end to the decades-long cover-up of steroid abuse in the sport.

Hogan, 54, took the muscle-enhancing drugs almost daily for 16 years during his career and says he can spot a user a mile off.

With more than 100 grapplers dying before the age of 50 in the last decade, he is begging others to face up to the crisis.

The Sun has been leading an anti-steroid abuse campaign since wrestler Chris Benoit murdered his wife and seven-year-old son before committing suicide in June.

A handful of former stars have already spoken out and prompted US politicians to start investigating the industry.

But many in the WWE, the world's biggest fight franchise, deny there is a problem and have blasted their ex-colleagues as bitter failures who haven't wrestled in years.

They cannot same the same about Hogan, wrestling's equivalent of Pele or Muhammad Ali who was fighting for them just 12 months ago.

In an exclusive Sun interview, he said: "Are steroids a problem in wrestling? Oh God yeah. They have always been a part of the business. It's prevalent.

More in the link....
:applause: Needed more of La Parka's dances, but great nonetheless.

Which reminds me, The Chairman of WCW needs his own topic!
Indeed!

BTW, nice to see Locutus back. :)

I was actually enjoying Santino's schtick on RAW, shame he got injured. I was laughing my ass off at the promo he was cutting before Umaga killed him. Those fuck JOHN CENA" chants seem to break out randomly like at the Ring of Honor show at the Hammerstein during Christopher Daniels and Matt Sydal vs Aries and Strong match they were chanting that along with Cena swallows and a ton of other things.

Seeing Hulk Hogan speak out on steroids should be a clear sign it's a problem in wrestling. I'm sure Hogan's beefed up body didn't help his knee problems that have him walking like Terry Funk while looking like Schwarzennegger.

I missed the last two matches of AAA this week, but the other matches were pretty damn good.

And to answer your question, yes all of AAA major wrestling shows do get shown here in the U.S. Triple Mania should air on Aug/18.
Seeing that, I'm really saddened that I didn't watch more WCW while it was still in its prime.
Same here. I accidently discovered ECW in 1996 and pretty much abandoned both WCW and WWE for 2-3 years.

If you're out there on the 25th, you could go to the ROH show at the Manhattan Center. They still have general admission tickets available for 15$ for another couple of days.

Danielson is going up against Morishima and there is a lot of hype that it may be a MOTYC.

I'm kind of excited to see what "changes" will be made to the WWE, tonight...

But because of how both jaded and in-tune I am, with reality, I know nothing is going to change.
