Thought this was worthy of a new thread. Its back! And with a vengeance. As of this writing its at [see title]. Link

And for those that dont know, the amount of uses for this promotion seems to be doubling at a steady rate, now at 40 uses per account, and the maximum amount you can get back PER A SINGLE TRANSACTION was reduced from $250 to $200. The total culmulative cashback allowance is capped at $2,500.00 per calendar year.

How this works:

If you dont already know about this, its a very simple promotion offered by Microsoft in order to promote usage of their search engine live.com. All you have to do is go to www.live.com and search for something common, like "Wii" as in nintendo wii. In the Sponsored sites at the top you will see a link to Wii's on ebay with a small logo next to it that says Live Search Cash Back and below that "You may get xx% off paypal eligible". When you click on the cash back logo it takes you to ebay and BIN (Buy It Now) auctions for Wiis. From there you simply use the ebay search function to find the BIN auction for the item you desire and purchase it. When you click the BIN button prior to clicking on Commit to buy you should see a message below with the Cash Back you are eligible to recieve. Once you buy the auction pay for it with paypal and give it an hour. Eventually you'll get a message in your ebay account saying "You've earned cashback" simply click on it and follow the instructions. If you dont have one you'll be asked to create a live account. I believe most people will already have an existing live acct due to their Xbox, MSN, or Hotmail associations so feel free to use that if you like. This is quick, and thus far i havent gotten any spam due to it, nor have i read of anyone getting any spam. And thats it, 60 + 15 days later [they allow a buffer period incase you return what you bought] you can redeem the money.

So to summarize

1. use live.com search engine to find any product on ebay. Any keyword is as good as another, hence i used "wii" as an example.

2. Once activating the link use ebay.com to browse for the Buy It Now auction you desire and purchase and pay with paypal. Wait until you get a message from ebay and get your cash back with your live account. This can take a few hours.

3. ~75 days later its in your pocket. [60 days before you can redeem and then an additional 2 weeks before it actually transfers into your paypal account]

Again this is just a promotion by MS to promote use of their search engine, theres no catch. You dont have to promise your first born nor random legs or limbs. Its as simple as it sounds.

Some things to note

-This promotion is limited to only US residents.

-You must pay with paypal and it must be a BIN auction.

-It takes about 75 days to recieve the actual money which will be in the form of a FEE FREE deposit into your paypal account. From there you can spend it or transfer it into your checking or simply request a check.

-If you return the item you purchased and used the promotion on you LOSE the refund.

-This is only valid for Ebay user/store auctions on Ebay.com. No live auction or ebay motors etc.. Though i think you can get away with buying international auctions you're watching on ebay.com. I also noticed that this works if you're offered a "Second chance" on an item you bid on since it turns the auction into a BIN.

-You may only use this a maximum of 40 times per ebay account per person. A few people are reporting success using different ebay accounts with the same cashback account in order to achieve more than 20 uses. YMMV.

-Maximum of $200 back PER AUCTION [$2,500 Cap per account] and the percent savings does vary and can change without notice.

Rest of the terms are here:
http://pages.ebay.com/cashbackoffer/terms.html

I recommend at least skimming them. Enjoy.

Couple additions

"Instant" Cashback is now available. However, to quote "Instant cashback will be eligible for some, but not all users." Its unknown what the criteria is to be "eligible". I would not suggest you make a purchase unless you dont mind waiting.

Ebay/Paypal Coupons WILL stack with this. The amount is deducted off the full auction value. IE 10% Coupon applied to $100 purchase will save you $10. If the Cashback percent is 25% you will still get $25 additional back for a total savings of $35. Usually the Ebay/Paypal coupons have a maximum savings of $100 for a maximum total of $300 saved on any single purchase. This also stacks with other promotions run by Bigcrumb/ebates where you can earn some more money back based on an items selling fees.

Nope, it hasn't been working since yesterday morning for me. Whether or not it will come back anytime soon...we'll just have to wait and see.

damn, yea I haven't used this since last week. I decided to check up on the thread because i'm looking into a high priced Nikon Digital camera....and low and behold this is going on..I could save myself a cool 80 bucks.....oh well. Thanks for the heads up

Damn wtf. After procrastinating for like 2 months to buy a PS3 on ebay I finally decide to buy one today and this is what I find. Guess God doesn't want me to have a PS3.

Yesterday morning I saw that there were eBay ads, just no cashback links. The cashback links returned for a short while yesterday, but now theres just no ebay ads at all. I'm hoping they randomly return again, because I was planning on grabbing an EEE 900HA from the deal.
no go for me. they probably saw the flood that sites like this create and pulled it, maybe. hopefully theyll bring it back again. but as of edit time, still not working.
this was creating quite a bit of buzz months ago even at a cap of 3 purchases. They've since doubled it twice to 12 which i really doubt they would of done if they we'rent recouping losses. Im sure it will be back. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Its gone away like this a few times since its started.
Do you have to pay right away for the item? Can I buy it now and pay for it Friday when I get paid?
Yep as long as the seller doesnt mind and that doesnt violate their grace period. You have a maximum of 30 days to pay for the item according to ebays CB terms.

So let me get this straight, I see a Wii on Amazon for $229 (even free shipping!). If I were to use the live thing, I'd get $57.50 back? Or is it 30%?

It is working now. Now, do I want to get Resistance 2, even thought I will have to wait more than 2 months just to get the $10ish back?

If you're going to buy R2 anyway, you should get it this way. Unless you can find it used and have a coupon, it'll be the cheapest you'll find for a while.

Can any one else confirm the cash back is working? I see the link and the cash back logo when im on ebay. Then I sign in and click buy now to see if it works and it doesnt show the cash back or my cash back savings. I did my 6 purchases before with no problem. But this still doesnt seem like it's "fully" back up. Not unless there is another way to make sure its working besides buying something all the way.

after a purchase when I click "get cashback" it says they are having technical difficulties.....great :(

edit: seems to be a firefox issue..copy/pasted order confirmation page into IE and it worked fine. they need to make it compatible with FF :\

Yea that woulda given me a heart attack. I got my nikon camera....I can't wait....hahaha

So far, this has worked for me every time I've tried it - a total of four times, with the last one an hour ago. Each time I did a search for the item I actually planned to buy, and got the cashback link in the results. I haven't had any problems with Firefox, either (I'm using 2.0.0.18). Maybe I'm just lucky.

Well that's just great, cashback goes away for 2 days for no reason right when I'm about to buy a PS3 and now that it's back there's no decent deals on a PS3. >_>

Im on FF 3.0.4 and had no problems with it.

I finally picked up a 120GB hard drive while the cash back is live. Now Im waiting for it to jump to 30% off or something:p

Well my major purchases for the year are officially over. I may get a game or two for some presents, but I am done with close to $900 total coming back to me.
Did anyone else get the cashback sent to your paypal account instantly?
No. Its supposed to wait 60 days so they can make sure you dont return the item.

Hmm, that's weird because the cashback for my last two purchases were immediately credited to my Paypal account.

SAME THING happened to me. I had the perfect PS3 scoped out, had been checking for a week to use 25% cashback plus my 10% paypal coupon for 35% off a new ps3, and then get a squaretrade 3 year warranty for like $30 more. (The deal was new/sealed new 80gb ps3, mgs4, and mgs4 strategy guide for $415 in case you are wondering)

Anyway, I still found good deals last night on new bundles - if you are looking for used systems as well its even easier to find good deals. The deal I ended up purchasing was a brand new 40GB MGS silver bundle for $399, free shipping, which was $260 after cashback. I also saw deals such as $540 for 160GB Drake bundle w/ madden 09 and extra DS3 controller. There are good deals, you just have to get there fast...

Damn, youre lucky. I have to wait 60 days on both of mine orders I placed using it:(

Now weird stuff is happening to me. I signed up with a new ebay account, purchased something BIN with the cashback discount and got a different cashback message in my ebay messages that says "You are eligible for cashback". Normally it says "You have cashback!" Then inside the ebay message the "cash back" link on the right takes me to ebay.de. WTF??? Anybody else had this happen? Is my account screwed up or something?

No but if you could show me how to get 25% off of ebay.de I'd be interested.

I have never done this and want to make sure not to screw it up but in my ebay account I have a code that gets me 10% off if I pay thru paypal.

Can I use this code in combination with the cashback offer?

Yes you can.
Yes you can.
That makes me very happy. I am having a problem though. I cannot get the live.com search to work if I am signed into my account. If I dont sign in the cashback 25% icon is on the top of the ebay page but as soon as I sign in it goes away. Why is this happening? Thanks.

Wow, I just got a confirmation from live search that I have cashback minutes after buying the item, usually it took a whole day. I guess the improvements they made worked.

That's the way it's supposed to work when everything's fine. After 5-10 minutes, I always get the message.

Anyway, I'm just about finished with my 12 transactions so I've started a second eBay account tied to my PayPal account (PayPal supposedly permits up to 8 attached eBay accounts per PayPal account) in case the deal continues and I see anything else worth purchasing.

I can find the links to no problem but upon clicking them and entering ebay, I get nothing. No cashback logo or anything. Tried IE and Firefox, cleared cookies, etc. Is the deal dead?

Hey guys, I am having some trouble getting my cash back to show up, I ordered four things on Saturday and I got four you've earned cash back messages. So I created my live id and cash back account after the first message by clicking get cash back and then I bought three more things and they still are not showing up, I spent over $400.00 so I am getting kind of worried. I purchased something last night and I got a message that I am eligible for cash back, instead of the I earned it message. The cash back showed up right away for that, so I hope I am not screw out of my other four purchases. Anyone think I should contact ebay? I guess it hasn't been 48 hours yet, will be in about nine hours. Thanks

You need to wait longer than 9 hours. As long as the cashback icon was telling you how much you were getting through the whole process, you should be fine.
