BIOSHOCK 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pushed to 2010

Picked it up day one, beat it in two days. Its quite good for 10 dollars, and is three areas long. Although the achievements were not listed/fixed by MS until today, so I'll have to recover my gamertag and go back and re do it to get them (which I'm quite okay with.)

Also, if you completed the protector trials, you will have access to an extra gene tonic (the one that increases gathering times for the little sisters).

Defintiely worth the 10 bucks, I wish they focused more on single player DLCs than releasing the stupid multiplayer DLC. This was supposed to be the last DLC for BioShock 2 correct? I'd be disappointed if that was the case since after beating Minerva's Den, I wanted more!

I bought MD last night. As soon as I saw that message about the extra tonic at the Gather's Garden, I quit & bought the protector trials as well.

Damn you 2K for praying on my Bioshock OCD. :bomb::D

Yeah, just finished Minerva's Den. Best downloadable content for a game that I have played in a long time. The story is interesting and breath-taking, and the new toys are AWESOME!!!! The only thing I would gripe about, is that I kept getting side-tracked from what I was doing because there was too many nooks and crannies to explore. Don't get me wrong, I'd explore them all if I were you (I did), but I thought it kind of took away from it all. Maybe if they had closed off certain sections until an action was completed?? Maybe it's just me. This definitely has my approval and recommendation, though!!!!!

Is the DLC just accessible from within any previous save, or do I need to start a new game? Or is it just a whole separate thing on the menu?

Man, I'm hearing a lot of good things about this DLC. Now I just need to wait for it to actually come out for the PC version of the game. Though, we don't even have the protector trials yet, and the consoles have had that for, what, a month now? Really grinds my gears whenever companies shaft the PC like this.

Well, at least I have a rubber ball I can bounce against the wall...

Buy the 360 version from gamefly for $15!! Then, you can get all the DLC. You can probably sell the PC version for $10 or something. Just a thought.

Hehe, much easier said than done. Picked the game up off Steam. Even if I did get the boxed version, the key for the Multiplayer has already been used (even if it doesn't get tied to my account, the other person has no guarantee that I won't continue to use it to log in), so there still wouldn't be much in the way of resell value. Kinda makes it hurt a little more, since we go through a deal of extra work to get the same end result, and still get shafted on DLC.

Can't complain too much though. Well, maybe the "can't" boat has sailed, but at least I shouldn't... I picked the game up for $30 or so at launch, and it came with a free copy of Bioshock 1. I could probably pick up a new version of the game and still end up paying less for everything than some people here.

That kinda sucks for you. I'd still recommend picking up the 360 version from gamefly and getting the DLC. Total would be $25, but it's about 5-6 hours (at least it was when I played it) so $4-$5 an hour isn't too bad for the entertainment. Plus, you can get more achievements!!!! The story is GOOD!! People say that all the time, but if 2K had wanted too, I'm sure they could have made a full game out of it. It's very well told.

I do that, then I'd be willingly patronizing a company who's screwing me over. It's kind of appalling that I'd even need to consider going that route for DLC for a game I bought, and there's no good discernible reason why it isn't available to me.

Never thought of that. Good point. If you're okay waiting it out, then I'd do that.
Did it really? Was this a universal title update, or do you need to buy Protector Trials for Rebirth to not wipe your stats?
(Sorry I never replied to this) But yes it does fix the rebirth glitch, but only on 360, PS3 still has the bug and PC hasn't gotten a patch yet. The patch is a title update, so its free and does not require you to buy the protector trials.

I'm going to finish Bioshock 2 this weekend (I'm on the last level) and I think I'm going to immediately buy Minerva's Den DLC. From what you guys are saying it seems well worth it.

Just beat it. AWESOME game. I loved it. I can't understand why this one didn't get the same praise as the first game. It was amazing from start to finish.

I'm probably buying Minerva's Den but not tonight - too tired...

I'm debating playing through on Hard. I beat it on normal and I got the Brass Balls achievement for not using Vita Chambers but I hear Hard is really really hard. by the end of the game though I was blasting splicers all over the place and I was pretty good at comboing the plasmids with the weapons. I don't know - it took me over 2 months to finish the game so I don't know if I'm up for that again - too many other games to play...

I agree. I just beat it last night too and I think I even liked it a little bit more than the first BioShock, which was already one of my all-time favorites. I especially don't understand complaints about the story--it didn't have the twist or the scope of the first but it had an emotional depth that you don't find in games very often. The level where you
play as a Little Sister and see their twisted view of the world
was pure awesome.

I definitely enjoyed this game as much as the first. Yeah, the first game was a real breath of fresh air and really benefited from the plot twist. Still, this game had plenty going for it, too, including the surprising enjoyable multiplayer.

I don't like it as much as the first game, but it was enjoyable.

I just started Minerva's Den last night. I'm not usually into DLC, but more time in Rapture is fine by me. Seems really cool so far.

I agree.

It's hard to compare the two. Bioshock was something fresh and original that had a great twist at the end. Bioshock 2 on the other hand benefits from perfecting the action and as such it seems more fun.

I really need to replay the first again though.

Just finished the Minerva's Den DLC. It was awesome, nice twist at the end. Definitely a must get for anyone one who loved the main game.

As for comparison to the first game, it was better in plot and atmosphere. But the gameplay is more refined in this one--though the protecting the little sister sequences get old. They're not really hard, just get tedious with setting traps over and over etc.

Yeah, I absolutely hate the gathering sequences. I've only been doing it once per little sister with Minerva's Den.

I'm enjoying it a lot thus far. Just got the high score achievement on the Spitfire machine. I thought that was a neat little touch.

Just finished Minerva's Den and it was definitely worth it. There was too much gathering again, although I guess you have to get ADAM somehow, but the new weapon was pretty kick-ass. The story provided a good bit of interesting (if unessential) background information on Rapture's infrastructure. I thought the main bad guy was kind of a generic wacko and the twist at the end was overly telegraphed (I figured out the biggest part of it about ten minutes before it was revealed, and that's rare for me) but those are just nitpicks.

Also, for those of you who were disappointed in Tenenbaum's limited role in the main game, she plays a pretty integral part here.

I finished Minerva over the weekend and it's easily one of the best DLC purchases out there. Loved it. It's almost like a super-charged Bioshock. Do all your gathers, and you power up super fast and become a badass in no time at all.

If you did the Protector Trials and have access to the special Protector Tonic, definitely use it. Gathers take longer, but you get more Adam.

God damn, you guys were right. Minverva's Den was incredibly good. The ending really capped everything off in such an awesome way (the twist at the end is great). Easily one of the best things I've played this year.

It saddens me that 2K Marin has no plans to make anymore single-player DLC. This was so much more worthwhile than any multiplayer content they've released, and waiting until Infinite to get my BioShock fix is going to be tough.

Does anyone know, if I'm currently in the middle of the main campaign on Hard difficulty, and I play through Minerva's Den on Easy, is there any chance of it jeopardizing the Against All Odds achievement?

Started playing Minerva's Den last night, and I've only completed the first area so far, but I have to say that it is really outstanding! It's like everything that made the main game great, condensed down into a faster-paced and more action-packed bite size package. I do miss the presence of Eleanor, her character and her relationship with Delta really made the main game for me, but in terms of gameplay and environments, Minerva easily rivals anything the base game has to offer. I'm really digging the new laser weapon especially.

Between this and Lair of the Shadow Broker, it's a good time for DLC that's as good or better than its parent game.

I finished Minerva's Den this weekend. Even though I figured out the twist long before the reveal, it was still very enjoyable.

The quality & length of this DLC make it easily worth the asking price. Shame we won't be getting any more. Infinite seems far, far away.
