BIOSHOCK 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pushed to 2010

I've already walked around the room for 15 minutes and nothing. I'm tired of this game not auto-saving until the end of the level. It's not that hard to implement a simple auto-save system after you do a goal in the level. Maybe I'll just go ahead and send the game back to GameFly and pick it up again later in the year when they fix some bugs.
you are missing something....you see spider splicers (or whatever they are) behind the gates and they walk away and then you see a brute and the gate opens and he tries to kick your ass....it isnt a bug, just put it down and come back to it later
IMO, Team ADAM Grab is pretty quick if you are on the winning team. The games are very short and if you hold the little sister you get 3 ADAM for every second you hold her. You can get 540 ADAM in the game by just holding the little sister for three minutes, plus another 200 for winning. That is 740 ADAM before you add in your kills/assists/bonuses.
Definitely, this gametype is awesome. Played a few rounds of it and really enjoyed it and got a ton of adam. The other team just seemed to worry about k/d.

CtS is great when you get to be the Big Daddy. I played one round of it and ended up with over 1000 adam. Something ridiculous like 31 kills 22 assts and 6 deaths all because the other team would try and ambush me as I was the Big Daddy. They didn't realize my entire team was there as well.

Thank you for pointing that out about Team ADAM Grab. Much appreciated. I will do that to boost and then put the game on the shelf, until I am ready for another playthrough.

Just finished....great game, but I'm left confused......

Ultimately, what was
Eleanor supposed to be? A 'perfect' person? A perfect leader/dictator for The Family? I get the Lamb was trying to put all of Rapture's memories into her, so that she could in effect 'do it all'....but what was the end goal??

Also, am I mistaken, or is
Gil Alexander humongous in the tank???

Lamb believed in the exact opposite of Ryan's reasoning for founding Rapture. Whereas Ryan wanted a society where the individual was not bound by the wants and needs of others, Lamb wanted one where everyone's purpose was to serve the whole. In order to do that, she needed a leader who infused all of Rapture's memories. That way, not only would they have all of their talents and knowledge, they would have their own identity of self removed.

Alexander was Lamb's first attempt, but that was an obvious failure due to the human body's ultimate reaction to too much Adam. But Eleanor became the perfect subject for the project due to her time as a Little Sister. She does not suffer mutations due to over-exposure.

I'm just about done with the first game, is the campaign on the 2nd one just as good as the first...I mean is it as engrossing as the first, same atmosphere, creepy moments...etc.

The story is not quite as good, but the gameplay and graphics are much better if you are coming straight from BioShock 1.

I played for an hour or an hour and a half. I'm in Ryan's Amusement Park, and I just
defended my little sister while she was harvesting ADAM for the first time
. I'm currently playing on normal, and the game seems somewhat difficult for me. I'm getting through very rarely "dying" (I've used the vital chambers twice), but it requires a lot of pre-battle hacking, spending, ect. From this point does it get more difficult, and should I worry about decreasing the difficulty?

The game starts out pretty hard, but gets a lot easier down the line. You'll get more weapons to use, upgrades for your weapons, level three plasmids, research bonuses, and you'll get more comfortable with what you have. If all else fails, just shock and headshot.

There were definitely a couple of areas somewhere towards the beginning I was having trouble with but by the end of the game I was totally owning everything and rarely needing to use any health packs.

I think the campaign is just as good. I remember when I played the first I had a VERY hard time putting it down. I had the same problem with 2, I think I beat it in 3 sittings, and I think it took somewhere around 15 hours, so I think it's a bit shorter. There is just something about these games that pulls me in and doesn't let go, this is one of the VERY few games that can creep me out. It is so damned satisfying blowing a splicer away with a shotgun, more so that any other game I've played before. Rather it's running up on an unsuspecting splicer, or searching for one that wont shut up to only have them pop up behind you and BOOM, they're head is missing and my screen is covered with blood. I can't ever remember talking shit to an enemy during a single player campaign.

Indeed. And it's also like the first game in that regard. I remember the first couple of times I faced a Big Daddy in BioShock. Amazing experience, in my opinion. I thought I could never beat the very first one you encounter. I was running around, shooting, ducking behind stuff, freaking out, hoping the hacked turret would hurt him, anything. Then, later in the game, after you get the electric buck and the electric gel, the Big Daddy fights were an absolute joke. Same thing with the Big Sisters in this. The first time, I barely made it out alive. I burned through all my health packs and all my good ammo was gone.

yeah its annoying timsplitt you press it once it grabs something and lets it go and grabs something again very helpful when you're fighting a rumbler because grabbing that trashcan instead of a rocket was what I wanted to do

If anyone ever wants to team up to grind to rank 40 send a FR. For some reason I do very well in this game I went 17-1 the other night and was never even the big daddy.

Just finished the campaign this afternoon. I really enjoyed it! The first few levels were pretty difficult on hard, but once I got to the later levels it became a piece of cake with too much ammo laying around. I have experienced some of the same bugs everyone else has. The one with where the big sister music doesn't go away was really annoying. One other problem I had was with that preacher guy. He followed me into the doorway and killed me and the door shut behind him. Then I spawned in the next room and I couldn't kill him because he was stuck behind a locked door.

Beat the single player. It seemed really long to me, and I enjoyed it the whole way through. I died quite a bit playing on normal, so if I ever go through the game on hard, I'll turn on the vitachambers for sure. I think I have 735/1000 points from the first playthrough, and I've played about an hour of multiplayer and gotten some of those achievements. The mulitplayer is a lot of fun, and I feel like I do really well in it. Hacking, researching, and the use of plasmids is a cool Bioshock only thing that makes this experience unique from the direct shooting that I've been doing in Modern Warfare 2. I only play Capture the Sister, since this game seems best suited for that.

I am suprised at how great the whole game is. I got it because the original Bioshock is one of my favorite games, but didn't think it would turn out to be as high quality as it definitely is.

lol i was trying to do the achievment where you havest without taking any damage. i hacked a turrent. put 4 mini turrets down. put 30 traps down. and i failed the get the achievement becuase i was hiding slitly behind a gatherers garden and when i came down i "damaged myself and didnt get it... lol i didnt save because i was already to get it anyway until i fell

First DLC due next month:

2K Games bolsters the multiplayer experience in BioShock 2 next month, with the release of the Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, bringing new trials, weapon upgrades, playable characters, and a rank increase to our second dose of Rapture. The Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, due out next month for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, is the first in what 2K Games is calling an "aggressive post-launch downloadable content plan" for BioShock 2. Focusing on multiplayer, the pack increases rank levels to 50, delivers two new playable characters in Louie McGraff and Oscar Calraca, adds 20 new trials, five additional masks, and a third weapon upgrade for each weapon.
As someone who hasn't even touched the multiplayer aspect of the game yet, this means nothing, but I'm sure it's lovely for those who have.
"The fans who waited in the snow, rain and cold for the midnight launch of BioShock 2 have spoken and their message is that Rapture still has many fascinating stories to tell," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "Downloadable content is a key part of our efforts to continue to entice the fans that have made 2K a household name - we intend to deliver single and multiplayer content that respects and expands upon one of the greatest fictional worlds ever created."
The Sinclair Solutions Test Pack will run players 400 Microsoft points or $4.99, depending on how they pay on what they play. Check out more screens from the DLC below.
And remember, this is just the opening shot. 2K plans much more DLC for BioShock 2, including narrative-exanding single player content that delves deeper into the lore of Rapture and its inhabitants.

Big time fail. The masks and playable characters are the only things that should have a cost associated with them.

The trials, new weapon upgrades and rank increase need to be free. The weapons especially. Seriously, $5 for better weapons? Its basically what people have feared for a long time with multi-player DLC.

I'm not too concerned. Upgrades are not equal to better weapons. Look at the upgrades in the game. They all have a trade-off. If you get more firing power, the weapon fires slower. If you have get more rounds, the gun is weaker. I suspect that these new upgrades will be more of the same. I've already pretty much fallen in love with the set-ups I have, so I doubt I will even use these. Of course, now that I say all of that, I'm sure one of the upgrades will be something insane, and I'll look stupid.

Anyway, $5 for all of that doesn't sound too bad, so I will probably pick it up.

Looking forward to seeing what single player content becomes available. A Firefight/Horde mode would be fun.

Well I finished the game yesterday. Honestly not bad and it followed that saying: "If it ain't broke. Don't fix it." and played out pretty well.

Surprisingly the multi-player is actually decent. Not mind blowing like Modern Warfare 2, but solid enough outside of the occasional bad lag.

If you liked the first you can't go wrong as long as your not expecting major additions and mind blowing plot twists this time around.

Yea, a horde mode would work well since the game has a variety of traps.

Two questions:

1. I'm in Siren's alley, with 2 little sisters left on the map. I can defeat the Big Daddys pretty easily (level 2 Winterblast), but getting ADAM from corpses depletes too much ammo and health, IMO. Would it be safer to adopt then rescue, harvest immediately, or adopt then search for ADAM? Note: I have the Proud Parent perk

2. Do Big Sisters appear randomly after harvesting or rescuing, or do they spawn when all the little sisters are gone from the map?

1) Personally, I did the adam harvest (i.e. adopt then search for adam); granted I was playing on normal. I found by placing/buying traps at entrances... I never really had to use my weapons during harvesting (especially that early on).
2) the Big Sisters for me came after i placed the second little sister into the vent.

Hey man, spoiler that!!! :) I was reading up on the thread and started to read your post till I realized what it was saying.

There's nothing to be spoiled. Everything I mentioned was a regular gameplay aspect you learn early on in the game. I'd still like some more feedback, though. And after doing a little research I found out the the Big Sister appears after every 3 little sisters.

If you aren't going to gather ADAM the best way is just to harvest them immediately, but you'll lose out on a bunch of ADAM as well as the good ending. You should really have so many resources at that point in the game that you shouldn't have much trouble harvesting. Spam Mini Turrets if you have to.

To be most specific, Big Sister comes after you finish up the last little sister in any level. At least that's how it worked in my game.

For those of you who have finished the game...does this game have alternate endings for saving the little sisters and for harvesting them?

It'll be the last little sister in every level if you deal with all of them. If not, every third (except the one you have to fight after the first sister).
For those of you who have finished the game...does this game have alternate endings for saving the little sisters and for harvesting them?
There are four endings (good, neutral, bad, really bad), though two (the bad and really bad ones) are very similar. Which one you get depends on how many sisters you harvest/whether or not you kill certain plot NPCs (
Grace, Stanley, and Gil
).

took me long enough to reply but:

Well it is obviously a bug/glitch since there are absolutely NO enemies around me and no sounds either. The only sound I get is when I stand under the open ceiling in the room and the sleet(?) hits the helmet. The only thing besides me that is moving is the indicator arrow and it's pointing me towards a closed gate as well. (Sent the game back to GameFly, maybe I'll get it again later. Putting a ton more autosaves into the game would be nice but I'm not sure if that's do-able in a game update.)

Cool, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm having the same issue as theotherbarber... I can't reach the audio diary inside the orphanage... The splicers closed the gate and i can't get to the other side... The good news is im not stuck inside but still... It's very annoying. Why would they have the splicers close the gate if we have no way of opening them.

I was having a ton of fun in the multiplayer but recently I've been getting killed a ton because of the lag the teleports some people. I'll be shooting at them and all of a sudden I'm dead and they're behind me. Still really fun if you can get a few people you know on to run as a group, you'll pretty much win every match.

I really wish this game would let you play through a 2nd time with all your stuff. I loved that about Dead Space. I hate getting all my stuff back since we all have our favorite weapons. maybe this will be DLC or something lol

You were supposed to grab it prior to leaving the room. It is one of three audio diaries that are missable. The other two being at the beginning of the game. There are more than 100 diaries so you will be fine for the achievement and if you want to hear the diary; you could find it online and listen there.
Is there a solution to stopping the combat music when it gets stuck after loading? It is really annoying.
I got stuck with the big sister music for a while as well. Mine didn't go away until a new load screen i.e. the end of the level I was on. Have you tried saving and exiting and coming back in to see if it reverted back?

just picked up a BS2 app that came out yesterday. Its a reference guide that has pretty much all the info you need. It's pretty sweet.

It's called BS2: Reference Guide.

I'll admit that I was one of those guys who scoffed at the addition of a competitive multiplayer component to Bioshock 2. I figured the game's combat is very strategic and quirky, perfect for single player, and just wouldn't translate well to the realm of multiplayer. Oh how wrong I was...

After beating the single player game yesterday, I decided that I would at least give the multiplayer a chance before writing it off entirely. To my surprise I found that the developers put a lot of thought and care into crafting a very compelling multiplayer experience.

First off, you can play as a number of characters who actually exist within the world of Rapture. As you advance and level up, you unlock additional audio logs that further flesh out their different stories. These stories describe how splicing turned these everyday people into the monsters we confront in the games. For fans, this is a very sweet treat.

Jumping into the actual gameplay, I found that dual wielding plasmids and firearms against fellow players was actually a lot of fun. To my surprise, the strategy carries over very well. In fact, the multiplayer component actually includes new plasmids and gene tonics that are not found in the game and encourage various combinations (e.g. after freezing an enemy with the Winter Blast plasmid, you can dash right through your enemy with the Aero Dash plasmid, shattering their frozen body).

Unfortunately, the game is very choppy. I am not sure as to whether or not this is just severe lag I am experiencing or if the net code is just that bad. It makes aiming very difficult and pulling off the aforementioned plasmid combos especially difficult. As thamaster24 has said, you find yourself dead in a lot of firefights due to the lag hiccups. Further, it takes forever to find matches and often causes my 360 to freeze during the matchmaking process...

It is unfortunate and it makes me want to pull my hair out because there is a really fun and different multiplayer experience here that is nearly unplayable. Ironically, I hope that there is a Bioshock 3 if for the only reason that have an opportunity to iron out these bugs and provide gamers with a truly awesome multiplayer experience.

I am NOT a multi player fan at all in pretty much any game but this is pretty fun. I am getting my ass handed to me over and over but at rank 4 it seems to be a little better with the rush plasmid.

I am shocked that so few people use the plasmids at all. Of course nothing beats getting the big daddy suit and just smashing everyone left and right lol

Plasmids are key. The trick is using them appropriately in the environment (i.e. use Incinerate around oil slicks and explosive barrels, use Electrocute in the water, etc.)

Also, I found a new use for the Winter Blast plasmid today. In a game of capture the sister on Hephaestus, I was playing on defense when an opponent grabbed our sister. I was on his tail and went to shoot him with my Winter Blast to slow him down, but missed him ever so slightly. Instead, I hit the door directly in front of him, freezing it shut! With nowhere to go, I laid 2 direct frag grenades on his ass and stopped him in his tracks.

Yeah, freezing the doors shut is mentioned in one of those tip cards during loading screens. I've actually used it a couple of times to stop groups of enemies that were after me. Pretty effective when you're dealing with two or more people.
