BIOSHOCK 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pushed to 2010

I picked up my pre-order tonight after school!! So, I've played about an hour so far and I'll admit it's a pretty slow start, but boy it is nice to be back in Rapture!!

It's a pretty rough start, but after that first half hour or so, it's fantastic. I love the rivet gun, especially being able to look down the sights (click in right thumbstick).. headshots are awesome on here. It's so fucking great to be back in this environment. I had my initial doubts, but wow, they did a great job.
the game has frozen on me 3 times already. no game has ever done that let alone on the first day!
I had a freeze in multiplayer :(

yea froze again. its only doing the freezing in the multiplayer. and it happens in the menus most. the gameplay for the most part is fluent except lagger and people with ***ty connections

any else notice the damage crap? i shoot a guy for a minute. doesn't die. i die from 1/3 as many bullets. then i get an assist. it annoys me when i use fire on someone twice and two grenades, ONLY for them to kill me with a shotty blast from 20 feet away
Has anybody else picked up a Gamestop preorder and received a token card for the downloadable characters that looks like it is for the PC version? I figure its still the same Live service so it should still work, but if it doesn't I don't want to have to ask for a new card with the one I have scratched off already.
So I tried to put in the code, and I get error 800700e8. My card does have the Games for Windows Live logo on the front, and on the back it has PC requirement info. Looks like I need to call back into Gamestop and try to get a 360 card, ugh.

Played about 30 min of MP and 45 min of SP...liking it so far. The MP seemed a bit janky to me, I think there was some definite lag, but it was OK, its not going to win any awards, but its fine.

Although I wish, given it was made by another studio, it had some extra polish.

I definitely see what the reviews meant by "it doesn't have quite the same feel." Same go for the graphics...like others have said, and before I had actually seen the game in action, it does look a little aged...they look good, but aged.

I'll agree with that other poster here, while Mass Effect 2 does not have "incredible" graphics, they are much sharper than BS2.

Definitely some freezing issues while in multiplayer, mine froze 6+ times just last night. Others forums are saying the same thing.

Anyone else notice the plane wreckage the first time you are in the ocean?

Also, I check my map a lot and it bothers me that the map doesnt pop up centered on my arrow.
This game is awesome! You really get a sense of power once can defeat a Big sister with only 1 or 2 med kits.
What difficulty are you playing on? I'm going through on Hard, and it's kinda killing the feeling. I don't feel like a big daddy at all, since all it takes is a couple bullets or a couple wrenches to the face to render me in need of a med kit. I feel so fragile.

I have had 3 freezes in multiplayer. I personally havent seen too many laggy matches. As for the damage... if someone takes a picture of you, they get an advantage so it only takes two to three shots to take someone down... if they nail you with fire, all they need is one shot. Multiplayer can be summed up as chaotic. The modes dealing with sisters are rough... I just stuck with Civil War.

Add me to the list of people loving the rivet gun. I can't wait to start the single player.

Agreed with the above posters. It only takes a couple of shots for a splicer to get me down to no health, but I'm enjoying the ride thus far and don't mind the difficulty at all.

As for multiplayer, it's a good ride..but I can't see myself playing this a couple of weeks down the road. It's a nice addition, better than what I expected.

I'm playing on normal difficulty with no vita-chambers. Its a lot of fun so far and is challenging but not impossible; I personally like it being somewhat hard since it would be boring to steam-roll all the splicers.

I upgraded my rivet gun twice and have found different ammo types and it is much better now....my life still drains quickly but I can take the splicers down much quicker than before. Also, the trap rivets are pretty badass. I love shooting as many as possible at a big daddy or big sister watching them stick and then go off. Pretty cool.

So far I've upgraded the damage of the Rivet gun (I just found out you can look down the sights) and reduced recoil of the machine/rail gun. What is the point in upgrading the drill; its a risky weapon to use since you have the potential to take the most damage while using it.

It can also be the most powerful, just like the wrench was in the first game after you upgraded it through the tonic slots.

Im looking forward to upgrading the Heat portion of the rivet gun (the part that says a couple rounds can ignite someone on fire)....after the first 2 upgrades regular rivets are dropping the splicers easily...im worried about spreading my upgrades thin across several weapons though and not having enough fire power in at least one of them....

After i got the 50 cal machine gun I thought i would be mowing down splicers but they take 50 cal bullets pretty well :whistle2:|

You need to get some anti-personnel ammo; it mows them down. Since I'm still early in the game I believe in spreading out my upgrades so I don't run out of ammo in a tight spot.

Malik, you might want to throw some spoiler tags on some of your posts.

I'm really digging the main game so far; the story is kind of ehhh, but that's to be expected. Feels great to be back in Rapture

The multiplayer is what it needs to be; a fairly simple add-on that retains the Bioshock feel. I've only been able to play Deathmatch so far though; Team Deathmatch froze on me while trying to get a game.

thats totally true about the damage plus thing. but sometimes they are able to do that when they have no damage plus on me. it phases me how a guy can kill me with no damage plus with just two crossbow shot while i freeze him and shotgun him right between the eyes.

i literally average like 20 assists a game because of this nonsense.

another example of a guy i find suspicious: I was running around as the big daddy. i was litterally two shooting everyone. i shoot this one guy 4 times, throw a green nade in his face. and I die from a double team.i was plain facing the rest of the match. i wanted to get revenge on him so bad but he left the lobby because of the 55 second wait!

Wow, you're having trouble with them? I click in the right thumbstick, go into iron sights mode, and pop them off headshot by headshot with the rivet gun. Usually takes one shot.

I am playing on normal. By taking a big sister down with one or two med kits I mean under the right condition. Lured her under a hacked camera, had one of those flying machine gun things, set the oil slick on fire, hit her with the red and blue ball plasmid, and hammered her with harpoons and shot gun blasts.

I think that is what I like more about this game. The first one was great but was too easy....you could literally go through the game using the first couple of plasmids and maybe a few upgrades. This one takes some time to win a fight. I am loving setting up rivet traps and finding the nearest patch of water and a good corner before letting a little sister harvest adam. The difficulty also makes not killing little sister that much harder of a choice.

is this game worth 50+ dollars?

i pre-ordered it but since it came in....i don't know if i wanna accept delivery or tell the ups person tomorrow that i'll refuse it. luckily i missed the package today and it requires a signature

50 dollars cash is 50 dollars cash....but some games are so good that it's just worth it. so, is this one of those games?

This was a great game, but I blame my lack of self control and being snowed in, that I completed my first run through a day. Ahh, not to wrestle with the same issue as before, do I achievement whore and harvest the little sisters, or do I stay digitally pure? :)\

Did you like Bioshock 1? If so then I would say get it.

If you did not like Bioshock 1 because of the controls, but loved the story - I would say get it, vastly improved in that area.

If Bioshock was not your cup of tea, then this really is not going to change that point of view.

If you really enjoyed the first one...then I would say yes. If it's not in your top games of this generation, then you may want to pass. Unless your biggest qualm with the first was the game play then yes.
Awesome game so far. Played a couple hours of both single player and multiplayer and so far am enjoying the hell out of both modes.
I would enjoy the MP if the damn thing didn't freeze whenever I start to get the hang of it, and kick me off live before my progress is saved.

I've gotten through about 4 hours of single player, and I'm hooked.. I wish I didn't have to study for a test tomorrow!! I also haven't touched multiplayer... yet. I'm not even sure how much I'll play of that mode anyways.. The single player is where "it's" at!!

I just started single player on Normal for about an hour and I honestly can't say I've felt overwhelmed outside of the appropriate crescendo events or Big Sister encounters. Either of which were extremely manageable to begin with so if anything I've been breezing through just fine. Initially I was a bit disappointed by the lack of difficulty, ease of hacking and accommodating Rivet gun damage. Not to mention an abundance of well lit environments, cash, ammo and items all of which left me feeling rather invulnerable in and outside of regular combat. Much to my surprise however after settling in with the new mechanics via exploration I'm not only having a great time, but am also convinced most if not all of my hang-ups will be properly addressed as I push on. To its core I still feel like I'm playing a Bioshock game and in the end that is all that matters to me. Rapture has retained its natural charm and a few of its eldest cheap scare tactics, Big Daddy combat for the most part is still a perilous affair and hunting for radio diaries is every bit as worthwhile as it was in the original.

I think it is safe to say I'm very impressed by what I've seen so far because IMO this is exactly what a sequel should play and feel like. I want to feel as though the developers have built upon what made the original so damn great in the first place not ignore, water down, or complete obliterate it. I can already tell actual improvements were made with that in mind and I really appreciate it.

Having a blast with this game right now. Like everyone is saying, being back in Rapture is awesome and so is the experience of playing as a Big Daddy. Can't wait til class is over today to get back into it.

Beat the game on hard last night. Absolutely loved the whole experience. I got the good ending. The last hour of the game is awesome. No other way to describe it

That's all I keep hearing! I am very excited as I felt the first one had a great story but the last hour or so had that "Johnson didn't you finish the script for Bioshock?" "Uh-yeah I'll have it to you tomorrow!' (runs home and writes it in 4 hours).

It was relatively easy because at that point I had collected so much money and ammo etc that it wasn't hard. Also the game helps you with a certain gift, but the action is so well paced and they throw an interesting caveat that its just cool to watch it all unfold.

The game became very difficult during the middle parts(around Siren Allery) because all the ammo I had built got spent from continuous Big Daddy, little sister protects and Big Sister fights. There were literally times during big sister fights where I would die 10+ times and just have to get lucky. One time I used a big daddy to pimp slap a big sister. It was in Siren. I led a big sister into a small room and hid behind the big daddy. I allowed him to do all the work.

Some general thoughts....No spoilers
I liked the new hacking system but at the same time I missed the pipes. The pipes not only provided a challenge for your mind, they also gave you a rush of beating the fluid. I enjoyed being able to stay in the action in this one but what was the point of doing that and not allowing us to use our eve real time. Why was I forced to pause the game to replenish eve (not including the auto reload of eve).

I felt that the searching in this game was much easier and much more forgiving. In the first game the power to the people stations were well hidden but at the same time you could have missed out on one if you killed Cohen to early. Bioshock 2 went out of its way to make sure you really didn't miss things but it still provided a nice challenge overall.

The graphics were fine. No real issues with them. Obviously the mystique of Rapture was gone but I thought there were some truly stand out levels that showed Rapture perfectly (Ryans Amusements). The underwater exploration was cool albeit linear. The music was beautifully done just like in the first one. The atmosphere and lore of Rapture never gets old. From the bright colors of the coral to the wonderfully done recordings (except for Timmy in Dinonysas Park. F*ck you Timmy. With your squeky high voice and 5 minute recording).

i think the reason it paused for those is because its on the console and there is no way to be able to switch to the specific weapon/plasmid you want in a timely fashion and not be punished because the controller doesn't have enough buttons to map all the guns to.

I thought the entire game was a easy as hell, but I think it's due to my tonic choices, my plasmid gun combos, and my overall strategies for little sister harvests and bid daddy fights.

I hate that you could only hold $600 in your wallet. Thats just retarded. Oh yea, I can hold a friggin rocket launcher, 18 frag grenades, 12 proximity grenades, and like 8 heat seeking missles, but God forbid I can hold more than $600 in a friggin wallet

Just finished the game and I can honestly say that I was left wanting for more.. I won't go into details of course...

I REALLY LOVED the first game, and I'll admit that going back to Rapture was a treat, but the ending fight felt like a sub-par effort.

It's still a solid B+ in my book.
