BIOSHOCK 2 - Gen. Discussion & Info - Pushed to 2010
multiplayer in certain games are just ridiculously uneccessary. Can't wait to play the single player but just hope they keep the game the same length if not longer
Am I the only one who thought the first Bioshock could've had a cool MP and glad this one at least has the option...

I mean with all the different guns, ammos, plasmids, and hacking abilities the thing was begging for MP. You could basically have "class load outs" similar to CoD...pick a gun, ammo type and plasmid.

EDIT:

Also that commenter is HILARIOUS.
So they give both ME2 and Bioshock 2 the exact same scors in the same mag. Mmm smells very fishy. I think there is a lot of politics at play in these review scoers. And when they say Bioshock is over familiar and multiplayer will have a small loyal following. Isn't that just a more polite way of saying it lacks originality and the multiplayer is kinda bad and most people will go back to MW2.

I'll get teh game if the single player is a good length, otherwise no sale.
Trust me you aren't and I'm hoping to scrounge up a good team for Capture The Sister come next month. I'm really looking forward to both single player and MP the sequel has to offer.

If there weren't so many other games coming out I might care, but Alien vs Predator comes out the next week and then Battlefield Bad Company 2 a few weeks after that.

OXM gave it a 95%. The only gripe they had was that the game got kind of slow in the middle. They said the story is fantastic and the last 2 hours are amazing. The reviewer said it took him about 15 hours to complete

Definitely not the only one. I can't wait for it as it will be a welcome break from MW2. I'll probably play through the story first though. Less than a week!

i hope theres NO play game on hardest difficulty with no vita vitachambers achievement

kill save kill save kill save kill save

LOL, I thought this came out today eariler.

Anyway, multiplayer doesn't seem like something that would really "work" or "mix" with the kind of game Bioshock is. Plus, the devs don't have a ton of experience dealing with big multiplayer games.

I have a feeling the MP will be mediocre. Small maps, with only a couple players throwing fireballs at each other but little else. It could surprise me, but I would be surprised (hense the "surprise") if it did.

Definitely not very interested in the multiplayer. Not every game needs it. BioShock was classic without it. Developers and publishers need to stop worrying about the vocal minority that throws a fit whenever a game comes out without MP. Not saying that is what anyone here who is interested in the MP is doing.

Add me to the list of people uninterested in MP. I think it is going to be terrible. The plasmids will cause MP to be not enjoyable. It will be a Winter Frost fest. Freeze, Smash, repeat. Granted, I had read around that they will try to prevent this. I will probably only play MP enough to grab a couple achievements and call it a day.

Big Brass Balls - Finish the game without using Vita-Chambers.

It doesn't say anything about beating in on the hardest difficulty while doing it though. There is another achievement for just beating it on the hardest difficulty.

Although I would pick up this game for my PC in a heart beat considering I have 7.1....I am most likely going to get this one for the 360 for my 58 inch plasma 5.1 surround set up :| Yea I agree, MP, unless done in a unique way is going to be fluff.
Can't wait. Hoping to get it from GF. If not, I will probably be tempted to pick up a copy.
Same here. Got an empty spot and that's all I have in my queue. I got Mass Effect 2 on release day, but that's pretty much the only even quasi-new game I've gotten in forever.

Yeah, I've had some success getting games around launch from them. Just have to know when to put your return in the mail. I am feeling lucky, so hopefully they come through.

Anyway, looking at the MP achievements, at least they are aren't insane one, like knife a million enemies in the face after doing a barrel role. Don't know what it will take to rank up, though. That might take quite some time.

Sweet. Reviews sound good too. I hope they have a option to bring back Ryan like rule to rapture. Screw social justice, an iron hand needs to rule Rapture again.

The gamestop commericals make the multiplayer look terrible. Hopefullly it's fun.

I'm not sure if I'm going to buy this day one... kind of tempted to wait for the Collectors Edition to hit a lower price on Amazon... because it probably will eventually.

Thats weird. Every other review that has come out has been 9 or above. Maybe they docked it for multiplayer moreso than the other reviews
One of the comments said GI gave it an 8.25. Has anybody gotten their copy yet?
GI always has wonky reveiws...I rarely ever bitch about reviews, but while I like GI for the most part I take their review scores with a grain of salt. That being said 8.25 is still a pretty darn good score.

Yeah I noticed the other day GI gave G-Force a 7.75 and Wet, for example got a 7.5. I honestly don't think I will enjoy this as much as Bioshock (1) but I am still pretty sure I'll pick the game up at release.

I think the multiplayer is an added bonus and am glad it has been put in and am looking forward to it. will do the campaign first though and am really looking forward to it. getting it on PS3 though

Add me to the list of people gald for the multiplayer. The way the reviews are looking it seems like the single player didn't suffer at all because of it so the way I see it multiplayer is an added bonus and one I'm happy to take.

I think people forget that the MP portion was created by Digital Extremes, not 2K Marin. I never was really sure why people cried over how he SP story would be hurt because of the inclusion of MP...2 studios people, 2 studios.

Up until today I had very little interest in this game. Game trailer and reviews have really piqued my interest. I will probably still wait to get some of the CAG comments on it prior to jumping on any deals though.

The people crying over the SP story that might be lacking is because the original team on Bioshock (Irrational Games) were not involved in Bioshock 2. For me reading the reviews I have seen, I think I wont be disappointed. I will admit I was skeptic until I read them.

I think people just didn't want resources going towards multiplayer since Bioshock 1 was so great without it. That plus the multiplayer looked like shit early on. I think the main skepticism came from no Ken Levine(main producer for Bioshock) at the helm of the game. Personally I can't wait for the score. I love the Bioshock score. I even have a custom made one that is longer and much richer sounding than the free one 2k released.

Exactly, on both points. No Ken Levine was a big issue from the start. Then, you hit the nail on the head about resoruces. It doesn't matter who is handling the MP. 2 studios...10 studios. Doesn't matter. There are finite resources that go into a project, even a big one like BioShock 2. There was no need to expand the scope of the project, not when the first game was a masterpiece without it. Again, not every game needs multiplayer to be a hit. Fallout 3, Dead Space, BioShock, Batman: AA...all great games and big hits that didn't have any kind of multiplayer at all.

I'm glad that it would appear this still turned out to be great, but that doesn't negate the fact that people were concerned about it and that it didn't need multiplayer to be great.

I think 2K got scared because of the new studio and no Levine so they figured it would look better if they had multiplayer. Multiplayer shouldn't be something that is just thrown onto a game. Although a lot of games get overlooked or people wait for the trash heap to get them just because a game has no multiplayer. Dead Space.

Another thing to remember is that when you finished Bioshock that was it. There was no set up for a sequel. So when they announced the sequel that's somehow also a prequelish thing (still don't understand how your the first big daddy, but it takes place after the first game) people probably got nervous that 2K was just whoring the games setting out. Its a pride thing I guess. I loved Bioshock. It is my favorite game ever (nudging The Legend of Zelda:ALTTP) and some people probably didn't want the games lore to be ruined. Thats the best way to explain it. Not wanting to tarnish the legacy. Hell just look what is happening with Dead Space 2's development (if you played Dead Space). They are going away from what made the game fun to play.

capture the sister, sounds like fun, I'll do that after single player

I actually wasn't excited about this game at all because Bioshock is my favorite game this gen and I didn't see the need for a sequel but I decided to reserve it anyways because of blockbusters promotion and the fact that I had two Batman: AA's laying around to take advantage of it. Now that I'm reading more about it I'm really glad I did preorder it. It seems like the story and the atmosphere are still going to be there which are the two main things I was worried about.

the 1st game is one of my favorites. i had no intentions of picking up the sequel anywhere near launch, that trailer is making me question it. the $10 amazon credit is weighing on me too.

#1 guy on the leaderboards is a level 40 already with only 17 hours play time. Looks like it will be quick and easy to level up in MP.

Will be getting on Tuesday! Loved playing the first one and looking forward to playing this. Also interested in playing some MP, but I'm really looking for a SP experience.

Boom! It shipped today from Gamefly! I haven't had a game at home in my 2nd slot for about a week, but getting Bioshock 2 release day more than makes up for it. Doesn't hurt that I the other game I've got out is ME2.
So did the game break street date or has a copy already hit the interwebz?
It is on the interwebz as well as many mom & pop shops selling early like always.

What sucks is wanting to try the multiplayer so bad now and being to afraid to do it. I've been unhooked from live since I picked it up.
