BIOSHOCK - Gen. Discussion & Info
okay i get it. So if i hypnotize a big daddie, the sister will run and hide in some crack in some wall until the next respawned big daddie stomps by.

If i rescue or harvest a little sister she is gone for good. The big daddie will just keep stompin around and not find a girl to hook up with.
Correct. And the Big Daddies protect the Little Sisters, not "hook up with" them. Heh.
You can hypnotize the ones guarding a Little Sister, but she immediately runs away into one of the wall openings and you can't rescue/harvest her.
Weird. I only tried that once and as soon as I hit the Big Daddy with the plasmid, he went ape shit and attacked me. I assumed that their links to the Little Sisters were strong enough to make them immune to the plasmid or something like that.

You gotta be real careful with Hypnotize, especially if you have the electroshock tonic on. The Big Daddy will flip on you if you hurt it in any way. Also, if it turns red before the plasmid hits it, you can't use it.

Sorry to be asking so many questions, but what happens if you have a hypnotized big daddy that comes across another big daddy? Have you ever gotten a sisterless big daddy to attack another big daddy w/ a lil sis?

If so did it take it out, or at least almost so you could mop it up easily?

Having big dadies fight each other is one of the best parts of the game. So yes.

Yeah, that works. Just shoot the big daddy with the little sister and the hypnotized big daddy will see it as an enemy and start a fight with it. Because they're so evenly matched whichever survives will be close to death when it's over.

Holy crap that sounds fun. I HAVE to try that when I come across the next big daddy. I imagine it may take some back tracking and extensive planning but it sounds so cool I cant wait to do it.

This game (IMO!) is making video gaming history with regards to enemies. They can be enraged to fight each other, adopted to protect you, they actually use teh health stations available to the protagonist to heal. The AI is sick!

I feel bad for people who would just run and gun through this game missing out on all the strategy behind how to play.

I've had some of the craziest shit going on with dueling Big Daddies. I had one hypnotized going after another, while both were protecting Little Sisters. One was standing in an oil spill so I set him ablaze as the other one chucked grenades at him. Both got damaged badly so after the hypnotized one came to his senses, it took one pistol shot to take him down. Two Little Sisters for me to rescue using one bullet.

sick, it almost feels like cheating...almost.

I never thought about trying that. I'll have to give that a whirl on my second play through. I don't remember many instances where there were more than one though. Mine were spread pretty far apart on the levels.

My favorite way to kill big daddies was to just tag them with the security becon and lure them infront of a camera. Its also how I maxed my security drone research as every picture was multiple subjects and action.

Lacking cameras, the electric ammo drops a big daddy in less than 10 seconds with taking zero damage.

A method I started using towards the end, which I will implement earlier on next play through is the trap bolt on the crossbow.

I'd lay 2-3 trip wires out and drop about 3 proximity mines for the setup. Fire a shot at him to get his attention. If he makes it through that, then it's only a blast or two from the Electro shotty.

Mine were spread pretty far apart on the levels.
I've only had a couple instances where the Big Daddies w/ Little Sisters were in one group. I think it's a very rare occurence, but I tend to be very patient rescuing the Little Sisters, so perhaps at some point their paths cross within the levels. I usually wait 'till I'm done accomplishing the tasks of the level before I take care of the Big Daddies.

Could be. As soon as I found a Little sister I took aim at Mr. BD. I didn't want to wander aimlessly backtracking to find them later.

I;ve been adhereing to corvin's method of tkaing out BD/LSs.

Ill watch and follow em until they put themselves in a corner, drop some mines, ready my lighting and grenade launcher and try to stop him in front of a hacked camera if one is handy. No backtracking this way.

All I can say about this game is WOW, and then I can say I am an Ass half for not reading about this game before, I saw it in EGM and Gameinformer and I thought it was an RPG (don't ask) so I always skipped it. fast forward to the other day when I was at Blockbuster looking to rent something new and I figure what the hell I'll check out this RPG for today (again I have no idea why I thought this was an RPG, I just did) after the 1st cinematics and going down in the bathysphere I was like fuckin hell this is creepy like condemned. I LOVE THIS fucking GAME
I AM AN A**HOLE FOR NOT LEARNING ABOUT THIS GAME SOONER.

For your own sake, stay out of this thread until you finish the game then. It's been pretty much assumed that most people have finished it and there are spoilers everywhere. Enjoy the ride. Between Bioshock and Halo 3 this has been a pretty amazing late 2007.

I am tempted to buy this game, even though their is a pc version and the PC version is far graphically superior...however my current system is not powerful enough to run it at a higher res so in order to play it, I might have to tone it down below the 360 levels (I have the 6800 gt 256 card)..however is it worth it just for the achievements or should I just wait til I upgrade or wait til this becomes PH for 29.99? It's gonna happen, considering everyone gives this a 10 out of 10 and it's selling like crazy.

I am not sure this game looks that much better on a PC. I'm not sure why it would, other than higher resolution.

And the ability to not cut off the top and bottom of your screen at widescreen resolutions.

I am trusting that a patch WILL address this issue. I forgot where, but I saw a site that had a side by side comparison of the graphics 360 vs PC.

There's already a 3rd party application that works awesome to correct the field of view.
How many audio tapes is there?
122. One of the Farmer's Market ones will incorrectly be listed under Neptune's Bounty.
i'm not sure if this is general knowledge yet, but when you go to the 2kgames site for the broken big daddy figures it now has a form to fill out for the replacement: http://www.2kgames.com/bioshock/busted/
The site says the "The Big Daddy Figurine Redemption program has now ended." but I filled out the form and have received nothing. Anyone else?
Sorry if this has already been discussed but I searched the thread and didn't see anything. Trying to avoid spoilers still...

I haven't got shit from them yet either.

Sander Cohen is dead! I wasnt sure whether to kill him or not at first, no goal or objective had me do so, but then a splicer got me and I static shocked him and he started attacking me so I took him out.
Glad I did too due to the benefits.

Hopefully you killed him in his apartment, and not at the concert hall. There's an achievement for finding his apartment, which remains locked if you have already killed him when you get there.

CRAP! Oh well, im not a complete achievement whore. It is a bummer though. Like I said, I static shocked him and he started attacking so...it is what it is.

Noooo....the PC version is so FUBAR'd. What with the Securom and the limited number of installations. They say a patch is coming, but they've been saying that for a while. Get the 360 version.

I don't know how to hide/show spoilers so if you read this sorry

yeah but did you take a picture of him too? I did and I thought it was funny as hell. I try to take a picture of EVERYTHING! I didn't even mean to hurt the dancers, I was photographing them when I bumped into the record player.

I wanted to kill him there as well but I figured maybe he was the master mind behind everything and he would help me later on so I left him alone @ the concert hall

Just started playing this and beat Dr S...
When do I start taking pictures? I see there are achievements for such but I have yet to get the camera or film.

I am just now getting started on what I would like to call my "Achievment runthrough." I'll play it on the hardest diffiuclty to get that one, and try to get every tonic, diary, photo, upgrade, plasmid, slot, etc...

I figure it will take about as long or a slightly longer than the first runthough since I am better at killing splicers and know my way around a little better. This game is soooo sick!

Bioshock freezes even as I'm walking through the corridors of Rapture. Sometimes it's worse when I'm in combat. It started happening the most during Apollo Square and Point Prometheus. Why? The game is in perfect condition. Is my 360 too weak? Why Bioshock, Why?!

Here is an unexciting 2 minute video of it. Sorry there isn't much going on, but I had just finished defeating the Big Daddy and a ton of other Splicers.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=kpAb7abLPVk

1) Towards the beginning, as I'm walking out of a hallway where the security camera used to be, theres a HUGE freeze.

2) Going up or down the stairs another huge freeze.

3) While I'm loading my gun as I'm fighting the second splicer

Ton of other places, too.
I'm pissed.
I want answers!

Clear your cache. Known problem.

Grr, I got half way through on a hard difficulty game trying to get 100% achievements when I find out you can't get all the tonics/plasmids if you don't save the little sisters. Well that sucks.

? theres an achievement for dealign with all the little sisters, if you were going for 100% you shouldve checked them out.
that said, i recall being able to go back for little sisters, but its been awhile.

You can't get all the tonics on one play through anyway, IIRC. I think if you let Sander Cohen live you get one, but if you kill him you get a different one.

yes you can. just dont kill cohen, you need the power to the people thing in his room.

Cleared my cache, everything went well for a while. But then as I reached 'Fontaine' it started doing it worse than ever. I just don't know. Thanks anyway though. It worked for a little bit. Also, I tried doing it again. Is there a limit on how many times you can clear it?
