Blogger says RE5 is racist LOL!!! reported by GameSpot
Yeah. Let's try and get a title thread change. It's not Gamespot's editorial.
what do u want me to call it then?
what do u want me to call it then?
Up to you. But the author states the source here:

"In an editorial for The Village Voice's Runnin' Scared news blog, Bonnie Ruberg notes one forum-goer's concern that gunning down mobs of angry Africans could be "subtly racist." Ruberg herself says she finds the trailer "strangely disturbing."

aww shit man , give me something that I can say 5 times fast.

Who didn't see this one coming?

Seriously, minorities need to lighten the fuck up. It's not like this is a game for impressionable little kids, it's a game for adults. Adults are already racist or not, this game isn't going to impact that.

Like I said before, I have no problem with this. It's just a game... it won't make me want to go out and kill blacks in Africa. I just laugh at this.
I knew someone was going to bitch when the main enemies of RE5 where going to be blacks... oh come on... Did RE4 cause this type of problem for Hispanics when it was released ??

Um, people from Spain aren't considered Hispanic. Most people from Spain are pretty close to white.

so what's the deal then?

Spanish, hispanic, latins, cubans,

We all speak spanish.

So we are spanglish then?

No, you just answered you're own question. You're Spanish, Cuban, Mexican, etc. Just because you all speak the same language doesn't make you the same ethnic group. I speak English, but I'm not English.

Well if you wanna get real technical, hispanic isn't really a race of people at all. Its just a name that was made up to generalize all Mexicans and South Americans into one large spanish speaking group.
That being said, RE1 was racist against people with beards. Look at how dumb they made Barry.
As a supporter of Barry, I'm offended.

You gotta remember who is saying that, I just ignored it completely. ;)

As Maddox once said:

1. That the person is an American. For example, if you saw this guy walking along on a street, you would probably think:
african_american_lol2.jpg
...which is fine, except for one small detail: this man is British, which makes you a presumptuous cock.
You gotta remember who is saying that, I just ignored it completely. ;)
Truly, I was wondering if Ghia was serious or joking. Pretty sure he was serious, but now I know.

Don't forget that you had to kill him, which makes Leon, Claire, and anybody who played RE2 totally racist. ;) Unless you're black...then it was black-on-black crime?:fridge:

Pointless anecdote:
I never even knew the dude's name! Me and my brother always called him "hottie-police officer," after a line uttered by Will Ferrell in A Night at the Roxbury.
Well said. I'm a minority too, but ignorant ranting doesn't help anyone. The writer of the article would've done well to at least research what she was railing on before having an opinion on it.

And shame on the media for giving this blog any kind of credibility or spotlight of interest.
That's really my only problem with this whole thing. People say fucked up/controversial things on their blogs all the time, why is this getting so much attention?
Um, people from Spain aren't considered Hispanic. Most people from Spain are pretty close to white.
Actually they are. Hispanics are actually people from Hispania. Hispania was the name given by the Romans to the whole of the Iberian Peninsula (modern Portugal, Spain, Andorra, and Gibraltar).

The way the term Hispanic is used in America to refer to anyone from a Spanish speaking country or descended from people from a Spanish speaking country is wrong. It's also slapped on people of many different racial and ethnic groups. People from Mexico, Central America, and South America can be of Caucasian, African, Asian, or Native American descent or any combination of those. It's ignorant that those people are all grouped into one non-existant race because they all speak Spanish. It'd be like grouping every person from an English speaking country into one imaginary race. So you might be Irish and your best friend is Chinese but because you're both from America and speak English it means you're the same race with that kind of logic.

Wait wait wait.

Why am I the only one noticing THIS piece?

the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people."

Jack Thompson...is that you?!

Seriously, this whole thing falls apart when they said this. Are you shitting me? Resident Evil marketed towards kids? Despite the M rating? And the fact that the series itself would scare the piss out of kids? Obviously kids are gonna fear ZOMBIES.

Not only is the blogger pulling crap out of his ass, he's also saying it's okay to be afraid of white zombies and infected Spaniards, but to welcome and praise black zombies. That in itself is racist.

Color doesn't matter. White, black, gray, decomposing blue and green, doesn't matter. IF SOMETHING IS COMING AT YOU WITH A CHAINSAW, YOU BETTER KILL OR RUN!

Iraqi zombies. They'll not only eat your brains, but strap bombs to themselves and blow themselves up upon colliding with you.

Ugh, now this pisses me off. Mostly because these idiotic cries of "RACISM!" only serve to dampen and cheapen real issues of racism.

I worked closely with a black guy at one of my summer jobs for a month or so. Every time he got corrected or repremanded for something, he always made this big scene about how he was being mistreated because he was black. "No, you moron," I wanted to say, "You're being yelled at because you're lazy and completely incompetent." Not every bad thing that happens in a minority's life can be chalked up to racism.

This is no different, really. If we're going to give this person any credit at all, why isn't someone locking up Sonic for torture of obese people; Mario should be hounded by PETA for cruelty to lizards. And Ganondorf has a fairly dark complexion, right? Link's a racist.

There's certainly no basis to claim that "there's no racism in today's world!" because that's simply not true. But people who really suffer because of other people's ignorance, fear, and hate are being mocked by writings like this. The author on Black Looks should be ashamed for such an atrocious article.

They were Spainards, not hispanics.

Oddly enough something like that happened with my coworker, except reverse the races, a white guy who didn't want to be corrected by a minority! lol

Anyway...so far from what I have read:
Resident Evil 4: Hispanic zombies (didn't see any protesting threads)
Dead Rising: Cacausian zombies (didn't see any protesting threads either)
and now Resident Evil 5: African zombies

What's wrong with having an African zombie, its not fair that only Hispanics and whites can be zombies! lol :)

Resident Evil 9 "Now with Asian and Native American zombies!"

This is stupid. They're ZOMBIES. Damn it, the black community is always so sensitive to this shit. The game isn't going to hurt the black comunity more than the black community has already hurt itself. I bet you a native African won't even care about this.

Wow, you've certainly indicted an entire population of people over one blogger's comments. Talk about your all-time generalizations! You could be the next Bill O'Reilly!

Really, guy, this is what one blogger has said. One person's opinion. Whoopie-doo.

Nobody's still been able to tell me where the game takes place. I've read Africa, I've read Raccoon City, and some of the screenshots have a Haiti/Caribbean US look to them. Wikipedia doesn't have a clue, either.

I didn't say that the entire black community felt this way about the game. I'm just saying that, in general, black people tend to be more sensitive towards these type of things than any other race, no matter how stupid it seems. Ok, well not all black people obviously, but whenever something like this happens there seems to be an outcry. I mean, a few years ago there was an outcry against the Pokemon Jynx becuase she was black with big pink lips. I'm thinking an episode was banned becuase of it. Now she's Purple.

...and? Warner Bros no longer plays or releases the "Bugs Bunny versus the Japs" World War II cartoons. White folks don't have such caricatures compared to the slant-eyed "Jap" or the ink-black "Sambo" and "Mammy" images.

It's our history of racism and out ancestor's history of racism. We don't need or want reminders of that. Your claims of hypersensitivity are unproven and unfounded, and you're using this case, where *one* person is claiming RE5 is racist to vent some sort of pent-up frustration you have on this issue.

Games have had changes before: Mega Man: Powered Up featured a boss called "Oil Man," which had those Sambo-like features as well. He was made purple before coming over to the US. Did it ruin the game at all? If it does ruin the game to you, or if the palette change for the Pokemon Jynx ruins Pokemon for you, I suggest you need to rethink just who it is you're calling "hypersensitive." ;)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending those who think RE5 is racist. The graphics are fine enough that we're dealing with damn-near-photorealistic images of the zombies, so there's not much of a chance at all for seeing those exaggerated physical features (and the photos thus far show very people-looking people). The story is relatively unknown. So little is known, short of a number of the zombies are black skinned. It could turn out to be racist, it may not - IMO, it's far too early, and far too little is known, to conclusively say one way or another.

The RE4 zombies were hispanic.

You guys are forgetting that Mexico is full of medieval castles, European-style churches and feudal villages ruled by centuries of royalty.

Plus that scene where Leon interrupts Sera while he's eating a taco.

EDIT to indicate missed joke ;)

While the term "African american" is the dumbest euphemism in the history of the world (along with asian-american, and pretty much any *insert race here*-american thing ever, for many reasons... none of which were mentioned by maddox), Maddox proves he is a complete moron in that post. Why?

2. That the person is African (because it's inconceivable that black people could come from Haiti, India, Trinidad, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Australia, or Jamaica). Nevermind that; BLACK PEOPLE ONLY COME FROM AFRICA.

Here we see what a complete abject moron Maddox truly is.

Black people only come from Africa, stupid. You know the black people in America? They originally came from AFRICA, not AMERICA. You know the black people in Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad? Guess fucking what, Maddox, THEY CAME FROM AFRICA.

America wasn't the only country enslaving Africans (and guess what else: the hispanic people in latin america? They came from fucking SPAIN, not South/Central America)

Fact: black people only come from Africa.

this actually slightly depends on your definition of "black", most people don't include indians (like, people from India) in their definition of "black", or Aborigines (native australians), mostly because, besides their skin colour, they look nothing like "blacks".

Not to mention that every time you give a black person the distinction of being "African American" out of a mixed group, you're making an assumption about an entire continent; not everyone from Africa is black.
Once again: Maddox is a dumbass.

I am making no generalization about AFRICA by stating that someone is AFRICAN. In case you're too stupid to understand how the english language functions, let's carry out Maddox's logic:

Not to mention that every time you give a videogame the distinction of being "an xbox 360 sports game" out of a mixed group, you're making an assumption about every single xbox 360 game; not every xbox 360 game is a sports game.

I can easily say someone is African by looking at them. If they are black: then they have ancestry in Africa. Period. I'm not saying anything about egyptians (which are the only people I can think of in Africa who aren't black... unless you count the DUTCH people in south-africa [and, as you might guess, Holland isn't in africa, so the white people maddox is reffering to that LIVE in Africa, are not racially african])

Also, though I'm not sure about the history of the egyptian people, it's VERY VERY VERY likely they didn't originate in Egypt, in fact, they likely didn't originate in Africa at all: probably someone around Meditteranian Europe or the middle east.
