Blu Ray 2 for $25 BBV

JLazzuri

CAGiversary!
Hey guys. Just found out that Blockbuster Video will be putting their previously viewed BluRay on sale. The sale will be 2 for $25 for any title 16.99. There's a pretty good selection at my store, but then again selection may vary. Hope this helps someone pick up a few on the cheap.

Sweet! When is this in effect? I'll have to be picking up Speedracer (AWESOME video) and some other title. Yeah definitely taking advantage of this.

I would also like to know when this starts since I'm one of the few people that rents Blu-rays at my local store.

There is a previous thread on this topic. Some stores have been selling the used BDs for $16.99, HOWEVER, the 2 for $25 is a new development. I'll have to stop by my local store and check if they are doing that. Two for $25 is a great deal, IMO, especially considering my store still has tons of copies of Dark Knight and Iron Man in blu.
The other thread:

The sale should be in effect starting today. The system will automatically take down the price the same way it does for 2 for $20 or any other similar offer. I plan to pick up Speed Racer and Wanted.

Do they carry the original boxes for the bluray? I'm not too crazy about the rental boxes they come with.

I've got the same question/concern.

I just called my local BBV in Crystal Lake, IL and said they have no sales or promotions going on on used blurays. I'll check other stores later this maybe YMMV.

I was looking at them the other day at a few BBV near me and they all have that pretty horrible case. Id be more excited about the deal if they didnt have terrible blu ray pre owned cases. I think 1 out of 30 may be in its original case(and I think they were all spiderwick). Otherwise Ill have to pass.

I'm going to have to check this out sometime this week at my local BBV. They don't tend to carry many copies of a title, so I'm not going to expect much if this sale exists.

No, they don't keep the original blu-ray case art--you get disgusting Blockbuster case art in Blockbuster cases. I don't think they stores ever even get the original cases, pretty sure they get all their movies in Blockbuster cases but I could be wrong. If I am wrong I would like to know what they do with all the retail cases.

And seriously, I wonder how long before BB realized nobody will buy blu-rays without the blu-ray cases. At least with DVDs they were very similar to the originals.

Last week I bought The Dark Knight on blu-ray from BBV used. It came in a dvd case and I asked the employee if he had any extra blu-ray cases I could have instead. They didn't have the original cases since he said they ship them off. He gave me 4-5 empty ps3 cases which are similar but white instead of blue. It came with the original cover art and I threw away some BBV insert that was also in the case with it & behind the original cover art.

I used to work at BBV---this will be extremely YMMV, as it relates to each store's stock of that item.

As for the cases, yes, they do suck. Big time.

They won't give you blu-ray cases, but if anyone needs Wii/360/PS3 game cases, they should have a million of them. And they should give them to you, if they are somewhat cool.

I have bought three so far. And I hate myself for it.

I was in my local BBV this morning, they were also running the 2/$25. Looked like they only had a dozen or so titles available though.

i went to my local bb (vegas) and they had the blu ray cases with original art for the 4 i bought (zack/miri, role models, super troops, appaloosa)

Thanks OP

Stopped by my local BBV and was browsing the selection when one of the employees came up and told me about the deal and that they were just about to put the signs up.

Picked up Wanted and Forgetting Sarah Marshall for about $27 after tax.

Is this deal going on at all Block Busters?

could be some good deals but i wont have those shitty cases making my shelf look like crap

It came down in the official planner so it should at least be in all corporate owned stores. Also, the rental cases do contain the original art work, just not the original Blu-ray case. Just picked up a couple at my local store and moved them over into some extra cases that I had laying around. Disc and original art work were flawless condition for both of them.

The sale started in Hawaii over a week ago, and fortunately, the stores here have 95% of the Blu-Rays in original BD cases with artwork. I've only found a handful in the big black cases, and the manager was nice enough to swap it out with a BD case. I'm puzzled why the discrepancy in cases depending on location. You might try asking, though, as some stores reportedly have BD cases stashed away in the back.

seriously!?!?!? this thread is barely over 1 page.....try reading the posts bro;)

One near work is not big enough to have enough to sell I guess... They directed me to the one in the ghetto although she said if they aren't already stolen.

Checked one near me, they weren't running the sale but they also didn't have that many anyways. I did pick up some used DVDs, but one of the ones I picked up is suppose to have a 2nd disc probably special features but it wasn't in the case. Does blockbuster typically include the 2nd disc or only the first?

This sale should be at all Corporate stores given what I found out yesterday:

So I went to the Venice, Los Angeles location (corp store) and sure enough they had the sale there, but not the titles I wanted. In the evening I went to a location in Burbank but there were no signs of the sale anywhere so I asked the manager about it. She says she didn't know about it so she called the Venice store and they told her it was a corporate wide sale. She rang up Pineapple Express and Forgetting Sarah Marshall and it automatically discounted it to $25 for both.

So for those looking for this sale that might not see signs for it, you can either check to see if it's a corporate store or just have them ring up to see if they come up at $25. It's a brand new sale so some locations might not be aware yet.

Also about the artwork, it does come with the original artwork, you just have to find an empty/replacement box to put them in.

checked out one of my local blockbusters today and I found Dark Knight (2 disc version) so i picked it up for $16 using a giftcard ^___^

You know I really find that bad cases detract from my movie watching experience as well. When that crisp blu ray picture comes on I am haunted by visions of the disc being stuck in a regular DVD case.

I seriously feel the same way. I wasn't even considering going in on this sale because I'd be stuck with the awful case and no artwork. The only reason I did was when I found out it comes with the original artwork which can easily be slipped into a replacement case.

All of my local stores have the cover art (actual artwork) over top of the blue generic dvd cover, so all you need is a bluray case to have them looking perfect.

I got some bluray cases online (10 or so), and have been slowing getting used blockbuster blurays to put in them.

Where did you get the cases? Are they the same size/color as standard Blu-ray cases?

I've been shopping around for some and don't want to get stuck with suck ones. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

i went back to return forgetting sarah marshall so i could get in on the deal and they allowed it (although they gave me a lecture about returning movies. guess they don't want people abusing it to watch movies for free)

Wound up getting:
dark knight
wanted
speed racer
forgetting sarah marshall

for 54 after tax. Not too bad (imho)

The lack of cases and whatever would come along with the retail package is keeping me from pulling the trigger.

However, if my friend will let me use his employee discount...hmmm

Two weeks ago, I purchased a few...but I told them that I wouldn't buy them without the blu-ray case and asked if they could check. She opened the drawer and there were like several dozen empty blu-ray cases inside. So, I bought a few and they even put everything in the blue cases for me. So, if the cases are holding you back, definitely ask them if they have empty BD cases.

Like in my previous post, I bought Wanted and Forgetting Sarah Marshall the other day and when I tried to play Wanted yesterday, it didnt work. Took the disc out and checked the back side and it looked like it got hit with a sand blaster.

Went back later at night and showed the clerk and he said to take another copy from the stand that they had setup for the sale. Dude was cool about it and didnt even need to see a receipt. Also picked up Tropic Thunder and Zack & Miri and the dude even let me check the discs to make sure it looked alright.

So if you're buying these, save yourself the trip and check the discs beforehand. I know bluray discs are suppose to withstand a lot more punishment compared to a regular dvd but some people out there are just plain irresponsible/careless.

Nabbed 2-disc Iron Man + Zack and Mirri Make a Porno. They had Pirates 2 (NOT of the Caribbean..) the R-cut, which made me laugh my ass off.

Same here at my local store. I almost burst out laughing right on the spot, didnt know BBV would actually have stuff like that, even it is the softcore version.

I called my local blockbusters again and confirmed the deal. The only thing holding me back are those damn cases... I did talked to them but just as someone mentioned, the movies they have for rent comes from corporate with those ugly black cases.

Blockbuster cashiers usually are cool from what I've seen.

But seriously, you bought something used without checking it? I never buy anything used (or new for that matter), without looking it over to make sure it's alright.

I just want to know who wants a softcore version? That cuts out any of the good content.
Has anyone seen RocknRolla as part of the 2 for 25?
Yes. (I'm in Hawaii.)
