Blu-ray Discussion Thread - The One and Only

Wow GizmoGC I forgot all about that set. Wasn't it also limited to only a few thousand? I remember wanting it at the time but it out of my price range for that time. What all is that, that it came with? I know it was listed on the site that was selling them but I forgot.

shrike4242 I didn't know they were doing that with the Alien set. Looks like I will be going for the Ultra Collector's Limited Edition if the case looks good.

If they look like them they are mine. I don't care that the only 2 I will watch is Alien and Aliens. This could have been worth taking so long to hit Bluray.

The alien does look dumb on it. I will still get it and yes you can get the movies with out the egg. However this set is only for France right now if I read the link correctly that Shrike posted.

Artwork for regular box set:

Yeah but the inner mouth looks a little smaller than it should be. I'm just wondering when this will come to the US. The set with the egg is the 6 BD discs and 4 DVD discs and the other is just the BD discs.
Why the fuck would they have a tiny Alien wrapped around the egg?! That looks retarded. The drawing looks better!
It'as a mommy nurturing here egg duh! I dunno really...
ummmm... can i just have the movies without the egg shit?
I'll take your egg to throw my dvd set in as the card board slipcover has taken a real beating over the years.

Came on here to see if there were any first hand impressions with the new re-re-re-release of predator, glad to see the Aliens news!!

If I had the money the BluRays would make me buy a 3d TV and 3d player. Well atleast that one TV that converts all 2d to 3d. I would love to see theis movies in 3d. I'm glad their is talks about doing the next Alien movie in 3d. I'm sure they will have a scene where the Face Hugger comes out of the egg at the camera.

For anybody with a Blu-Ray burner or Blu-Ray playing software on their computer, This One Is On Us (a group of Nine Inch Nails fans) released the ISO for The Gift via torrents. I am one of the seeders and it is fantastic.

In January 2009, Trent Reznor "leaked" 405Gb of HD footage of Nine Inch Nails' Lights in The Sky tour footage to fans. Jump forward 18 months and TODAY, after many audio and DVD releases, the thisoneisonus group is proud to announce the release of our final project from this footage - a professionally mastered, color-corrected and authored Blu-Ray.

Check it out.
I'll believe the PQ on those films when we get a number of reviews that say it's that good.

Same goes for the Alien Quadriology that's been rumored to be on the way out in the fall as well.
This.

Shame that they made those last two Alien movies...they were really terrible. :(

I don't even count them last 2 as ever being made. I have them and watch them everynow and then just to see how bad they were.

I just got Predator yesterday at best buy. I figured 5.xx for it and a free ticket to Predators isn't bad. I had 10 in RZ points so that is how I got it for the price I did before anyone asks how I got it that cheap. I have to say that at times the DNR is not to bad but in other scenes it just looks like shit. Some of the actors look fine however others look like an action figure in some or most scenes. The only thing that looks really good without the grain is the environment. I have not been able to watch all of it but from what I have seen it all looks good other than some of the cast. As for the audio I can't really say much. I have a cheap onkyo receiver and some cheap speakers from an old HTIAB with a PS3 60GB used to play the disc. Also I'm not big into the home audio because I can't afford it so to me it doesn't sound bad with a cheap 5.1 that I have.

I really just wanted to comment on the DNR and grain issue we all know about. I don't think it is as bad as we expected but Fox did drop the ball on this one.

Hey. That's cool. I didn't know about this...

Where can I get that 405 GB of files of this? All the torrents on TPB are dead and no one was smart enough to post it to Usenet apparently.

Sorry for bringing up what may be an old topic, I'm playing catch-up a little bit now that I have a player. Anyone know what's the deal with the $30-ish Band of Brothers sets from Amazon 3rd parties? One guy says "UK version/region free" in the description but the rest don't say anything. Are they all the same and some 3rd parties just have them for really cheap, or were there really two versions released?

On a related note, the only thing I've seen regarding the Japan HD DVD release vs. the Blu US release is (from a High Def Digest review of BoB) "Why DNR was even used is beyond me -- grain is still an integral element of the picture and the original source appears to be in excellent shape. Honestly, I probably would not have noticed the minor loss in detail had I not been doing a side-by-side comparison between the domestic Blu-ray edition and its previously-released HD DVD import counterpart" - which sounds like a nitpicky critique I probably wouldn't even notice. I'm guessing no one has seen both for comparison sake, but if anyone has the Blu-Ray BoB, how does it look? I'm open to getting rid of my HD DVD set and buying the Blu-Ray one for convienence sake, but if there's a noticeable picture difference I'll just stick with the discs I have.

The HD DVD set of BoB is very rare and worth about $150-$200. You can't list it on eBay thought as HBO will have the listing removed (not kidding).

Honestly, it isn't worth downloading. It's three shows with the exact same set list broken into the raw footage from about 8 cameras, some that weren't even going the whole show(s).

Cool if you want to edit it into something. Otherwise...

It's currently £15.93 on Amazon UK...that's about £16.64 after VAT tax is removed and shipping is added.

£16.64 = $25.28

I imagine that somebody imported a whole lot of them and is trying to flip them.

It's slightly noticeable but it isn't $160-200 noticeable.

I sold mine for like $160 and I have no regrets.

Wow, Deadwood is finally coming out on Blu! I'm just not as excited though. That HBO would get their most famous canceled show out in HD before finishing The Sopranos, a show that ran to conclusion.

I'd rather they just got the lead out of their ass and put Sopranos out as a series set and not dick us around with on season released every half-decade.

lol, what? Really? What is the story behind this?

I don't see how HBO would have any legal rights to prevent you from selling an HD DVD set of Band of Brothers. Although, I can definitely see eBay acting stupid and bending over for a silly letter from HBO.

I don't know what the story really is behind it. From what I gather, HBO does not want the HD DVD set being sold because it's "superior" to that of the Blu-ray, and they would rather people think it does not exist. Any and all HD DVD sets that pop up on eBay get taken down because HBO requests it.

That's the best story we can come up with because as soon as the Blu-ray set hit America, any and all HD DVD sets from eBay were taken down. Before that date, it was allowed to be sold. I think HBO tells eBay they are an 'authorized' version of the show.

If you have one, sell it on HDD. Probably the only active place to sell HD DVDs now besides eBay.

Sopranos will get a Complete Series set either this Christmas or next Christmas. It's not likely they will dribble out the previous seasons as sales have shown (twice) that people will not buy them. This is why we are getting Deadwood in a Complete Series only, and likely any and all future HBO catalog show in the same exact fashion. To do the work on 1 season is expensive, so they just do them all at once and sell them all at once. This will be a common thing with other studios as well. (And I totally want Deadwood, but not for $180+. Screw that).

Still waiting for Six Feet Under, but the First and Second Season being 4:3 really hurt the chances. Too many idiots out there who will get made it doesn't "fill up their screen"

Question for you guys. I was thinking of watching Blade Runner tonight since the last time I saw it was about 6 years ago on DVD... Which cut is the best in people's opinion... there's 5 different versions of this thing!

They don't call it the Final Cut for no reason, that is the one you should watch.

Huh. Interesting info on the HD DVD Band of Brothers. Thanks. Will probably hold it for now but at least I know I can get some decent coin for it if I decide to dump it.

That HBO/Ebay thing makes no sense...but then again, a lot of things Ebay does makes no sense.

Well said. The BluRay always impresses me , doubly so when compared to newer releases with worse transfer than a film from 82'.
Side note-I still have my VHS dub from ONTV, With the ONTV logo appearing in the bottom corner now and again. Old School.

It's been ready for nearly 3 years now. Disney kept delaying it. Another big title is going through the same thing right now.

The Incredibles continues to be shit on by Disney/Pixar.

Not only should the Blu-Ray be out, but a sequel should be in the works... who the hell wants a Cars 2 over Incredibles 2?

It's been making the run on cable over the last couple of weeks, and it's been a while since I've seen it. I think it's jumped back up to be my favorite Pixar movie.

I agree that it should be on BR by now, and we should have a new sequel in the works. From what I've seen, they both grossed about $250M domestically, with The Incredibles doing $262M to Cars' $244M.

Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made.

Cars-the T-shirt, Cars-the Coloring Book, Cars-the Lunch box, Cars-the Breakfast Cereal, Cars-the Flame Thrower.

I personally loved Cars and I'm looking forward to the sequel...also Monsters Inc. 2 seems to be confirmed too. Here's hoping Incredibles gets a sequel announced as well.

It's been speculated that Boo made a cameo in Toy Story 3:

Owen Wilson.

Yup, the difference between the two was negligible unless you're a Disney accountant.

Yes, Incredibles was merchandised quite a bit when it was released.

BUT

It didn't 'take', so to speak.

Cars is an evergreen and gender neutral franchise, and still moves A LOT of merchandise.

I really hope that this isn't the cover for Iron Man 2:

No. Disney has little interest in Blu-ray. They have released only a dozen or so titles in 2010 on the format (few being catalog unless they are tie-ins to sequels). To them, Blu-ray is just a 'New Release' format.

Quite possibly some of the greatest bluray news ever, short of complete Halloween and Friday the 13th boxsets (which will never happen). I mean, we all knew it was coming, but now there's a solid release date with complete features. $97 preorder on amazon, don't shit your pants just yet, I'm sure it will come down before release, my guess is $60-75.
