Today i turned my pc on like any other day, and my browser keeps freezing up. I use firefox version 3.6.13. It seems like my browser is fine, until i leave it on a page for a few minutes without moving anything. Then i go to scroll the page or click something and then it will freeze. Then i have to exit out of my browser, and start a new one. Does anyone know whats going on? I ran mcAfee and it didnt find any threats. I also ran spybot search and destroy and that came up with a few things but i got rid of them all. Any help?

My firefox browser used to do that every once in a while. Does the whole computer freeze up or just firefox? Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox? Usually a quick restart to the comp should fix things if not maybe do a registry sweep.

only my browser seems to freeze. my aim keeps going. i tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox. I restarted my pc. Ill try to shut it down completely and start it back up.

Are you uninstalling and DELETING the folder? That is a known issue if you have a lot of add-ons installed.

Save your bookmarks.

Also check out what's running in the background.

hmm, i was using ie and that froze too. I did a system restore and then i couldnt even open my browser, so i went back to my current restore date. I just deleted some of my add-ons. No i didnt delete the folder when i installed it. How do i check whats running in the background? CRTL+ALT+DELETE? Because if thats how, under applications, only firefox is running.

Yeah ctrl+alt+delete will bring up your task manager. Check and see what processes you are running. Shut down the needless ones and see if that improves the performance of firefox and your computer as a whole.

I deleted some Conduit thing add-on for firefox. So far it seems to have done the trick. Im crossing my fingers.

Processes, there are a ton. Are any of these things bad? I dont want to stop something i need?

OK. Slow down and let's do this right.

I'm up helping a family member with a paper anyway, so here goes...

DL this.

http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/

Run it.

Then post the log here. Some of us are vets with this stuff and we can locate some of the nonsense you may have running in the background.

If no one responds - Google each item to see if they are legit or not. Remove all things that are not legit.

Here is what i got.

Conduit was probably the cause, comes with most toolbars that are downloaded.
Nothing out of the ordinary in your processes but you do have a couple of non-essential ones. Mostly just stuff from CD/DVD software.

I would try crome but i cant install it since i dont have certain SP packs. And i cant download them because i get a thing telling me my windows isnt genuine. But i think thats because my pc messed up once and my brother in law reloaded it with his windows disc and not the one that came with my pc. :(

Lots of 2nd hand and thift stores or even book store sell legit copies of Windows XP, Vista and even 7 for dirt. You should try those routes.
