Bruno Sammartino's wrestling topic
Tons of it in the DX flashback segment
Ah okay then. My guess then (with the lack of Eddie stuff) is that they just didn't want to bring the mood down on what was meant to be a very lighthearted, fun-focused show.

As far as Mankind's entrance goes... does anyone remember the music he briefly had in like late '98? It was a remixed version of the original Mankind song. He actually had it when he first won the title, but I'm not sure if they dub in the current theme whenever they shown the old footage.

At 00:26, that music?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4fyzVLZ_G0
As for clips they show of him winning, only his DVD & the best of Raw DVDs are the only 2 I know of that have it and both have the remixed music.

Ok... in terms of Eddie, I mention it for three reasons.

First, though he was mostly on Smackdown, Latino Heat was before the brand split. None of that fit into the 'comedy' flashback?

Second, they showed Owen. Though Eddie was much more recent, I'd say it's a much bigger deal mentioning Owen, simply due to cause of death.

Third, on the WWE.com poll, there was a question about 'something or other' Raw moment, and one of the options was the Eddie Guerrero tribute show.

So, here's the deal... I have to assume they didn't do it because of Benoit. Maybe it was the fact that they were so closely associated. Benoit is also the reason we didn't get a 'tribute to those who have passed' montage. I mean, c'mon, surely they would've done one had 'death in wrestling' not been such a huge issue right now.

And... thanks to all who already replied about the Mankind music. I thought I was crazy there for a minute. He was dressed as Mankind, and used music associated with Mankind, so why 'Mick Foley'? If he came out to the Dude Love music, and was wearing the Dude Love outfit... wouldn't you expect him to be billed as 'Dude Love'? That was my point.
Yeah I don't think so Tim

http://youtube.com/watch?v=SJCQZW_FdLY
Oh god... he said he's gonna slap Triple H and take Stephanie from him... and he's gonna have lots of women eh? Oh boy, I guess I can see why Macho Man has been black-listed.

He clearly seems deranged at this point, what a sad state of affairs for a once great wrestler and wrestling personality.

Oh god... now he's gonna bitch slap Hogan and then take his "10 girls" out... wtf

Getting Savage and the Sheik together would be gold.

Last was great and really unpredictable. arguably one of the best RAWs in a while. The battle royal was great because most of my childhood was in that ring and it was great to see it. Not to mention my night being made when RVD made an appearance as well.

Scott Hall shoot interviews:

These are excellent, Hall is so laid-back it's crazy. Kinda makes you wonder why he no showed the TNA deal though, but oh well.

good raw

for some reason the first beat of rvd's music made me think lesnar was coming out...but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless

It's up on both XWT and PWT. Raw did a 4.1 rating last week, and today's WO site news update has this funny note about TNA -
We are looking for a new regular correspondent from Orlando for the Impact tapings. One correspondent got mad at the promotion and won't attend shows. The second was driven crazy trying to understand the booking and doesn't go.
will they fucking stop jobbing deuce and domino... they should be the champs!
They seriously need a new gimmick, the saturday night fever rejects thing isn't cutting it.

Since when does Disco = 'Billy?

Personally, I think they need to get a little less doo-wop and get more 'billy instead.

They're gonna be jobbers until the day they get released.

DnD aren't Saturday Night Fever rejects - they're greasers out of the '50s, and these characters are just about the only ones either man has shown any ability to play, so I have zero problem with them continuing to play them. I don't mind seeing them get used as jobbers, since they really are quite awful when they're not in the ring with London and Kendrick, although they have improved slightly to not being embarrassing during matches.

Here's last week's F4WOnline Bryan and Vinny show, featuring an Impact review where Bryan Alvarez apparently nearly has a nervous breakdown on-air trying to make sense of it - http://www.mediafire.com/?fn0il0v9jwi
That was a waste of $55 (Sandman shirt FTW.. but at $20!?)
$65, actually... the prices are after the products and that Sandman shirt I know for a fact is on clearance for $10 since I picked one up myself.
That was a waste of $55 (Sandman shirt FTW.. but at $20!?)
i actually thought it was a pretty decent set..

i always pick up the ppv's i go to.. so i usually wait for their shirt/dvd package for $20

The raw package for 31 wasnt that bad..

The sandman shirt was 9.99

Ive always wanted the bishoff book.. i picked the money night wars bundle to get over the 75 mark (i already have that dvd though)

the codes end today at noon

Still it seems the gimmick was DOA. It might've worked in OVW, but the gimmick just couldn't get off the ground in WWE.

lol at the people having nervous breakdowns at trying to understand TNA's booking. Guess they should do what I do, don't even try to think about it, cause all you'll do is end up with a headache.
i thought tna was pro youtube..

i uploaded a few entrances that i recorded with my cam and they were taken down...
Speaking of that, I've noticed that too. Seems they've gone after most of the people posting videos of TNA events. Both youtube & dailymotion barely have any videos anymore. I know it's not due to people not uploading, cause there were videos from Genesis last month and now they're gone. Seems they've started cracking down like WWE has.
That Scott Hall shoot was very interesting.

Not that I know of sadly, there's some good shoots on youtube if you dig around a little bit.

15th Ann. Raw was tremendous. That Battle Royal was the high point for me, as it sent me back 10 years to a much better time. I mean, Steve Blackman? Awesome.

Seeing RVD was a surprise, but it was a shame his match was about 25 seconds. Oh well.

Probably the lowest points were the Jennety/Kennedy match, and when Austin showed up. It seems like everytime he pops into the ring, I'm disappointed. Also, the entire thing about naming the fans as the greatest stars? Such a cop-out. But other than those, fantastic show.

Cheers for this, though the 128kbps hurts it a little.

I don't know if you're any good at finding themes or not, but there's one that constantly eludes me.. and it kills me because they only used it once and it was their debut, I was there live, the crowd was dead and it would've been a perfect recording.

I'm looking for the very first Cade and Murdoch theme. You can hear it in their "debut" video in the background.

They only used it once. I doubt i'll ever find it.

Apparently TNA is laying down the guantlet for Ring of Honor.

They're holding a show in Dayton on the same day that Ring of Honor is holding a show there and NOW they're holding a show in Long Island on the same day as Ring of Honor.

I find this very interesting.

Fall of Ring of Honor?

Personally I hope ROH calls out TNA the next time they're in NYC because if they don't do something about this, it can hurt them badly.

Those two promotions are closer in proximity than TNA and WWE.

TNA should focus its efforts on fixing its deadly awful television product, first and foremost. Cut the shit and focus on using the awesome wrestlers they have, and they needn't worry about Ring of Jobbers.

If the WWE can manage to keep the momentum they've built up with the last couple of RAWs, they might be able to knock TNA back a step or two. However, I don't really see how ROH can really compete since their entire livelihood is based on live events and DVD sales.

TNA does enough damage to itself to worry about WWE. Seriously, the word "clusterfuck" doesn't even begin to describe TNA's booking. Late-era WCW, even the "Lance Storm Canadian Rules" bullshit angle, along with Sting/Vampiro in the cemetery, ICP, "That 70's Gut/Fat Chick Thriller"...all look positively conservative compared to TNA.

Here, let me book the next TNA show: have 7 matches, all going 3-4 minutes. Doesn't matter who competes and who wins - all finishes involve a run-in, ref bump, or clusterfuck. AJ Styles loses a match and has to dress up like "baby new year." Kurt Angle talks incessantly, Tomko displays his passive/aggressive disorder, Jim Cornette brays and does nothing, and Matt Morgan opens his mouth for no good reason.

I just saved TNA 3 weeks worth of work. Unless they want to bring in Chris Masters and see how *he* bumps their stagnant-ass ratings.

I also don't think WWE has displayed any ratings momentum save for this past Monday. That will disappear quickly, and we'll be back to 3.2-3.5 ratings before 2008 (on Raw).

Well the WWE is leading into the Royal Rumble/Wrestlemania combo when they do their best, most interesting television work and I'm personally expecting an upswing out of them. The Jericho/Orton segment felt more natural than it has in weeks and it was one of the few times where the crowd made any noise of any kind.

And personally I think this is more of an attempt to straight up try and put Ring of Honor out of business. If this is a long term objective of TNA, the only way Ring of Honor can combat TNA is to either appeal to their fanbase to not abandon them and call out TNA or to try and get a television deal of their own. That and they need to start booking better venues that aren't the Manhattan Center.
- The WWE has sent Jake "The Snake" Roberts to rehab, as reported by the ex-wife of former wrestler Sam Houston, Jake's half-brother.

- Karen Angle suffered a broken leg at the Impact tapings when she fell off of the ring while exiting. No word yet on the severity of the break.
It's about time Jake got the help he needs. Hopefully it works out for him.

"Ring of Jobbers" is turning a profit, TNA, with its loaded roster, isn't. There's a lesson there. I can see this backfiring badly on TNA, as both TNA and ROH house shows appeal to the die-hards, and I can't imagine anyone picking a TNA show over an ROH one.

At least in Dayton, from what I've heard, people are saying they will check out TNA since they hardly ever come to Dayton and who knows when they'll be back and since they know ROH will always be back.

I doubt it. ROH has a philosophy, while TNA has a roster. If both promotions used their rosters to the best of their abilities, ROH would be nothing compared to TNA. Of course, that's not the case - we see by WWE crowds that fans respond to faces and names and entrances, not workrate. TNA is not WWE, but more high profile than ROH.

In terms of profitability, it's moot. Give ROH the roster that TNA has and they'll be out of business in 6 months.
It's about time Jake got the help he needs. Hopefully it works out for him.
That's weird.

Last time I saw him, he seemed to be completely clean.

I just had an experience that I feel compelled to relate. I'm also curious if it has ever happened to anyone else.

Anyhow, so I'm sitting at home on the couch watching the last match on the newest HBK DVD set and having a late lunch/early dinner. It's the Cena/Michaels match from April of this year that went very long and is generally regarded as one of the year's best matches. I saw it on TV when it first aired and enjoyed it immensely.

About 15 minutes in, Cena levels Shawn with a huge clothesline after a few minutes of HBK offense. As this happens, a fan jumps up in about the fourth row. The fan is wearing a white sports jersey of some kind and a camouflage cap, similar to the one Cena sometimes wears. As I try to get back to the match, I keep being distracted by this guy who's obviously a huge Cena fan and is cheering his heart out for his hero.

My attempts to get back into the match are in vain. Everytime Cena gains a little momentum, this idiot jumps up and down and distracts me from the action. Eventually I just turn off my PS3 and finish my food in peace. I realized a couple things thanks to random Cena impersonator fan guy.

First, I don't hate John Cena. I hate John Cena's more avid fans. fuck you Cena fan from London, you suck.

Second, a fan who I could only see every 20-30 seconds was annoying enough to get me to turn off a match that I wanted to see again.

So am I nuts or has this ever happened to anyone else?
fuck you Cena fan from London, you suck.
Cena is a Chav!

It's happened to me plenty when attending wrestling shows, but not, to my recollection, when watching. Some of the TNA TV regulars pissed me off a while back (leprechaun motherfucker, the middle-aged fucker swangin' his towels around, and fat Jeff Hardy fan - let alone "heel section." But it never took away from the TV product. Then again, TNA does enough to take away from its own product that perhaps the fans never got a chance to do it for me.

In another  moment,

The Sci-Fi Network has announced a change of schedule for the final week of December. Originally ECW was set to air on Thursday, December 27th at 10 p.m., head-to-head with TNA Impact. They have now moved ECW back to its regular time slot on Tuesday, December 25th at 10 PM. No reason as to why was given.

They were killed by TNA last time around, so now they don't wanna compete. HA!

I've got Rock Band and Unreal Tournament now, so I'm going to be doing some gaming instead of watching Impact tonight. I may even put in a minute of Xenogears on my PSP; I hear there's a game in there somewhere, but all I get are text-heavy cutscenes.

Huge news update regarding Bobby Heenan from today's WO site news update - http://www.wrestlingobserver.com/wo/news/headlines/default.asp?aID=21572
--Bobby Heenan is undergoing major surgery tomorrow. They will be taking bone from both his shin and thigh and using it to reconstruct a new jaw, because his jawbone was destroyed by radiation therapy in treating his throat cancer. The surgery is major enough that after completion, they will have to put him in a coma for several days.
Hopefully everything goes well for him and that he can both get out of that coma and recover fully from the operation. Also, a Congressional hearing on pro wrestling will be held on 1/23, which is no. 2, behind baseball, as a sport that Congress will be looking at. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns also got a plug in today's update, with a mention of the U.S. and MMA folks in it.

In terms of profitability, it's moot. Give ROH the roster that TNA has and they'll be out of business in 6 months.
ROH would have the common sense to not have the needlessly boated roster that TNA has, and ROH turning a profit isn't a moot point - despite having far fewer resources available to them, they're able to make money on their products. TNA, with many resources available to them, still hasn't done that.
