Sting is a WCW icon that just happens to be working for TNA right now. If he doesn't get royalties off a DVD about him I wouldn't want to see it released. BTW, when was the last time he was on Impact? It's been several weeks, I think.
His contract with TNA is set to expire monday. There's no word if TNA will offer him a new contract. It unlikely since SpikeTV footed some of the money for his first contract & doesn't want to do it with a new one. So who knows, he might be coming to WWE for a one time match.
As for the Macho Man DVD, seems to me that WWE might be trying to get on good terms with him. Especially with what Hogan did at the 15th Anniversary.

They have so much footage they ought to be showing it all the time. Why not have a "wrestlecrap" show, with Robocop, Chucky, that one weird AWA tag team series that took place in someone's living room, and other stuff? Have a "before they were stars" series, with old Jean Paul Levesque matches and the like.
Hell, show the stuff in chronological order, like a syndicated sitcom.
They only reason they aren't using the WCW library is because they paid next to NOTHING for the promotion, its contracts, equipment, IP, and library. What was it? 2 million for all that? I'd find enough investors to cover that AND make more money with it than WWE has - without even needing to resort to restarting WCW as a promotion.
Let's not bullshit ourselves: the only reason they own it is so nobody else can. How little have they used this library since 2001, with zero indicators that they'll do anything different? A handful of DVD matches and a show or two on a subscription service that very few people get? Please.
WWE doesn't own the Mid-South library, Bill Watts' wife does, so that's completely out of their control (although it would come in handy for a Sting set, it wouldn't be worth the cost, as photos could be used to get across the same points the footage could).
The ICW footage could be used if WWE gets permission to use it from its present owner, Ron Martinez, although like the Memphis Mid-South group, they had a tendency to re-use old tapes to save money, which means its incomplete, which hurts its value for WWE. If WWE ever wants to do a Lawler DVD set (and lord knows he deserves one), they'll probably try and get the rights to the Memphis Mid-South footage so a set could be done properly, instead of having to rely on just the footage that Lawler owns (which was used for the Greatest Stars of the '80s set).
I'm quite happy with how WWE has used the WCW footage - they've used it better than other libraries they own (like the AWA and OVW footage), and I'm not sure what more you could expect out of them since it's always used for DVDs whenever possible (including Austin's post-WCW sale ones), which gets that footage out to the masses who might've missed it before.
Oh, and this year's Rumble will be the first WWE PPV broadcast in HD - no word if it'll also be getting a high-def disc format release.
Big Vision's releasing a Before They Were Stars: Rey Mysterio Jr. DVD, with Konnan and Larry Riviera doing commentary. Here's the cover -

That means we should see at least RAW starting to broadcast in HD real soon.
Edit: This week's RAW is not flagged for HD on my Comcast box. Then again I'm watching "Elf" on Sci-Fi HD right now... and there's not a damn flag for it saying if its HD 16x9 or not. Yet.... its HD 16x9. Go figure. FYI also ECW on my box gives a generic "Tag team title action" description while Smackdown just says "Wrestling."

7 years for a "Best of Starrcade" DVD does not make me think that my expectations shouldn't be higher for what they're doing. I also don't think syndicating older programming is too much to ask.
OVW is a strange thing; they don't want to "expose" guys, in one sense (it would be strange for fans to experience "Boris Alexiev," even in this modern world where kayfabe is dead), while on the other, they have mentioned it on WWE TV (at least that one occasion where DX sent a crate full of the Spirit Squad "To OVW" as well as in the video games (they make mention of getting sent "back to Louisville"). I think fans would love to see some matches of Cena, Batista, and others in "best of" compilations, but not as its own entity.
Speaking of which, I have two weeks' worth of OVW I'm uploading and will have for y'all tonight or tomorrow. James Curtis takes on Cody Rhodes in an OVW TV Title match, the finale (I hope) to the Ox and Hammer feud, Colt Cabana and Shawn Spears have a somewhat funny sketch at a nice restaurant and later have a pretty solid ladder match, Roucka and Katie Lea have their women's title match as well, and there's also a tag team match booked in a way that would make TNA blush. Also, next Saturday: OVW title match: Matt Sydal vs Mike Kruel vs Atlas DaBone in a triple threat. Believe I'll have that for you.
As for Royal Rumble in HD, that may be interesting to see. If I can get the HD feed, I may order it; the Rumble's always a fun gimmick match, the finish has been very well booked for years now, and it'll be neat to see in HD. That said, I wouldn't hold m breath for a HD/Blu-Ray version. Their DVD distribution is through "Genius Entertainment," which is a subsidiary of The Weinstein Group. They are currently HD DVD exclusive, but have only released 7 videos this year. They're more or less a nonentity in the HD media market, even if they have affiliations.

You're definitely right... and he'd buy TNA for the right price and just bury them.. you know how Vince feels about competition. All guys that were big in another major promotion first require a re-branding... only then can they obtain greatness in Vince's baby. :]
