Burnout Paradise - Gen. Discussion & Info

"We want one thing to lead to another," Ward told us. "A race could become a Road Rage, which could then become a Pursuit, and then in the middle of that [the player] could get taken down and start flying through the air." From there, you could decide to record the episode as a crash, and "seamlessly blend into what you thought you knew was Crash Mode-because we are taking that to a whole new level. It really is about blending experiences together. We want the player to be able to start things and end things anywhere."

!! ME WANTEE!

The official name is.....Burnout Paradise:

A sequel to the highly popular Burnout series was announced last year, but an official name and release date weren’t mentioned at that point. We’re glad we can finally tell you that the full name will be Burnout Paradise and it will be coming to us this Winter.

Along with these announcements, a couple of pictures and a video were released. Developer Criterion went in a new direction with this next iteration of the series since they’re unleashing the Burnout experience in an open world environment.

“We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time. Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all-new high,” said Pete Hawley, Executive Producer, Burnout Paradise. “There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features but the core of the game is still pure Burnout. Instant accessibility will be reinforced by innovative on-line capabilities which will see Burnout Paradise smash racing conventions.’’

So Burnout Paradise IS Burnout 5? I thought there were 2 separate games. That's kind of a bummer, but I'm anxious to see what comes of this.

I played Burnout Revenge for about 2 hours today, what a great game.

With any luck I will buying this game at launch.
That last crash was amazing!! There really isn't a need to own another racing game, IMO.
Except if you really want to race .;)

The trailer for this is reeling me in .
I hope I can channel the six year old inside of me so I can play this game the way it's supposed to be played .
I have a tendency to avoid things in my path when I "race" .
Game ships on January 22, 2008 and there will be a demo sometime before.
http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/49649
that was kinda obvious, but with some publishers not even bothering with demos, it's good that it's confirmed we'll get one early.

I really hate early Burnout demos, I end up playing it overandoverandoverandoverandover

I threw in Revenge just for the hell of it yesterday and remembered how much I love these games. This will probably be a day 1 for me.

The reason PS3 is this game's lead SKU is a businees decision .

Criterion's Renderware engine could be the PS3's saving grace , due to the trouble the Unreal Engine 3 is performing .

Or is it already too late ?

After they prove the engine's worth it'll take 12-18 months to put out any decent titles .

I have a feeling that because the PS3 was the leading sku the game took so long to finish.
On the whole those look a whole lot easier than Revenge's achievements.
Except for the "get the top 20 achievement". That is a bitch. Come to think of it, anyone want to boost for it?

Thank God - the Revenge achievements were ridiculous - I played that game for hours and hours and hours and still only have like 245/1000 points...

Only took me 60 hours to get all the single player ones. :) Gold everything.

Wow. I got gold for everything except the last two tiers (I think)... I suppose I could go back to them but I just remembered being so tired of it - some of the challenges were very very tough...

Next Thurday? Nice, that when I completely get all of my tests and assignments out of the way.

On another note, I have just THREE more achievements in Revenge to complete: win 40 crash events, settle the score with rival 100 times, and get in the top 20.

Anyone want to work with me to help get the achievements? Let me know either here or via PM. Thanks.
