Burnout Paradise - General Discussion & Info / TROPHY HUNTERS WELCOME!

I don't really have a problem with no Bike racing. Maybe it'll come in a later update (Bikes v. Cars maybe?), but I still want the PSN version to come out soon.
Soon as in this week ..... ?

Looking forward to the trophy update that comes with the downloaded version because that means those of us with the disc version should be seeing it too :).

It doesn't come with it, but it's being released on the same day to everyone that has the game.
So PSN gets 3 games this week? That's unpossible!
It's crazy, I know... that makes it two games more than usual this week! :D

Now that's a lot of trophies, 64 of them:
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/09/22/trophies-burnout-paradise/

Wow. Those trophies are a lot easier than the actual in-game awards. I figure I've already got most of them if they truely are retro.

He's for some trophy nights to come.

Anyone else unable to select cars, my game freezes everytime. I can select bikes and not cars.

I don't see how "Visit the Airfield" would be a retroactive trophy. Why would the game be keeping track of whether you visited the airfield or not before this patch? I think they probably said they'd be retroactive when the trophies were going to mirror the Burnout rewards, but maybe changed their minds?

Also, whenever I complete a Bike event, the license that shows up on my screen is black and has the "100% complete" stamp on it. On the pause menu, the correct "Learner's License" is shown. This happen to anybody else?

I hope to God that at least most f these are retro. Some that I doubt can be retro are easy to get - but I put so much time into this game that I really do ot want to re-do EVERYTHING.

But it looks like after not playing it for some time I will have to dust off the game and play it again - and play it online wiht my fellow CAGers :)

Doesn't the airfield have a couple of gates to crash through to get in? Maybe it keeps track of those???

Yeah I had that happen with my bike license too.
Looks like I'm finally getting Burnout again this week if it's shareable. Color me excited.
Good q. How does one find out if it is sharable?
Good q. How does one find out if it is sharable?
When you click on the game description in the store it'll say so. Infact there isn't anything that isn't shareable in the store right now. The only 2 titles with restrictions are warhawk and gt5p which can only be played on an account 24 hours after last played on a different account (sounds weird but read the description in the store).

In any case if the description mentions something about 24 hours then it's not likely anyone will want to share it.

If it doesn't then woohoo!

can you play 2 player split-screen? my son loved the other burnout and now with bikes hope you can play SS, also can motorstorm have SS as well?
can you play 2 player split-screen? my son loved the other burnout and now with bikes hope you can play SS, also can motorstorm have SS as well?
Nope and Nope.

But Motorstorm Pacifit Rift will have slip screen play so maybe that's your best bet.

Yeah I had that happen with my bike license too.
It's been so long, I can't remember if there ever were gates there. I guess it's safe to assume there were. I reported the bike license bug and they apparently fixed it, so I guess it'll be in the next update? Though I'll probably be at 100% by then anyway.
Good q. How does one find out if it is sharable?
Warhawk and gt5p are the only ones not shareable but they're also pretty much the only games over $15, right? So I would guess this will not be shareable.

Heh, I'm in a game right now and someone's driving around a platinum-colored truck that drives/sounds like a bike. For all I know they're talking about how the glitch works but they're Japanese.

i have tried and tried to get the update but i constantly get an error message after it hangs at 2% for 5 minutes or more.

anyone else seen this or know how to fix it? been trying to update for days now :(

A friend of mine has also had this problem. may be your internet connection. Hopefully they fix it with the update on Thursday. (today!) You could try deleting the updates and re downloading everything if you cant get it to work.

Anyone downloading burnout the full game. Any idea of how big it is? I think I might get it and give the disc to a friend or family member.

The Trophy Patch has hit Europe. It's only a matter of time until it hits the US.

EDIT: Yeah, it's out...and not(?) retroactive?

yeah it isn't retroactive like they said. Quote criterion site:
"Burnout Paradise saves are locked to your profile. We had hoped to use this to retroactively award trophies, but we discovered during testing that this is not possible. You will therefore require a fresh game-save to receive trophies in Burnout Paradise. If you're familiar with PS3 trophies already, you'll recognise that this works in the same way as all other games that have added trophy support post-release."

That's fine for people who haven't ever played it or are downloading it off PSN for the 1st time, but that's complete and utter crap considering they've had in-game challenges that the game acknowledges, giving players an incentive to seek that kind of crap out.

So... this means that if you have a B class license you'll be awarded a trophy for getting your A, but never for any previous licenses? That's ridiculous. And with one save per profile, that effectively means you have to delete all your progress just to earn trophies.

And since they have bike trophies... why the fuck would they put out the bike update 1 week before the trophies? That's just punishing people who already did a lot with the bikes update.

Ultimately, I guess it's Sony's fault for A) not doing any of the trophies sooner/at launch, and B) not making the dev kits allow for retroactive trophies (as it seems every game that's gotten them post-release isn't able to retroactively award them, or am I wrong?)

Either way...
Bullshit.
You said it.

You said it.
I think sony said retroactive trophies weren't possible

They obviously spoke too soon.

I remember CG covered this in one of their podcasts a long time ago: I think you can make a new game save without affecting your old one by making a new local user account (leftmost option on the XMB.) I think all users have their save games stored separately.

yeah you can do that or copy your save to another disk.

This.

Makes no sense what so ever. Delay the bike pack a week, no biggie.

Or you can back up your existing save to a USB drive or hard drive or other external storage device, delete it, and start over. Then after you are done getting the trophies, delete the new save, and bring your old one back over. The trophies are stored on Sony's servers (not in the save file for the game).

As far as making a new profile... that defeats the point, since the trophies would then be linked to the new profile and not your main PSN ID/profile.

Really? They aren't attached to the save game, at all? I guess that makes sense if your hard drive crashed or a save file corrupted, you don't lose your history for past successes.
That makes me slightly more willing to start over temporarily. But still... what a load of crap.

Yeah - if they were attached to the save game, I could borrow your save game and get the same trophies you have. This is probably part of the reason Sony said in the Firmware 2.4 FAQ that retroactive trophies are generally impossible. I think the reason some of the Warhawk trophies were retroactive (the rank ones) is because that type of information is stored on the Warhawk servers. It could be that your Burnout license info is not stored anywhere on Criterion's servers, so those have to be redone.

That does not explain why the stuff for smashes, billboards, and road rules could not have been done retroactively. Perhaps to get trophies working at all, they needed a fresh save file (and that might be a limitation having to do with the PS3 SDK).

I would be cool with the non-retroactive trophies if you did not have to start over again, but in the grand scheme, it does not really matter. No one is forcing anyone to get the trophies, and if it is not worth it to go back and get them, then that is a personal decision.

I understand that Criterion could have been more forthcoming with the fact that the trophies are non-retroactive, but what is done is done. There have been a lot of people saying that they are going to trade in the game, never play again, blah blah blah, and that is their prerogative, and their loss, in my opinion. I am looking forward to the other DLC Criterion has planned, like Islands. This trophies thing is a bump in the road, and not a complete show stopper.

Never playing again is just lame. Criterion has shown endless support for this title and offered upgrades that other developers/etc would charge a lot for. The fact that they even bothered to update ANYTHING is wonderful, let alone new content, online modes, etc on almost a monthly basis (including small things like improved 480i/p support!). It strikes me as way more of a limitation on Sony's end, which ultimately means they just should have announced it a long time ago.

And I stand by what I said about the bike patch coming out too early. That's the only real inexcusable thing they've done regarding the trophy situation. Everything else... not so much.

I always thought something would go wrong with the trophy update so I pushed off playing Burnout Paradise until the trophy patch hit, just won a couple of races and drove around on the bikes. It's a kick to the balls to whoever put so many hours into Paradise but it shouldn't be too bad since it's still a fun game.

Yeah I did the same thing, put it down until now.

I agree...why release the bike pack first if criterion cant do retroactive trophies. For the retroactive...if it's impossible, look at "manichi isshyo". I know it's a not a "game" per se...but the trophies are retroactive.

So what's the preferred method to starting fresh without trashing my progress from before? Copy the save over to another user then delete it from my profile and boot the game up?

That's pretty much it...i have my game save...but there's still no trophy update as we speak. Eventhough criterion says it's "live" the update to get the trophies are not.

Well, it supposedly came out early this morning, and was pulled in the US. Might've been pulled everywhere, too. Sony might've gotten some people in there to help resolve this.

I already deleted my retail game save (I had like 2 races done, 2 car takedowns, so no biggie), but it probably wouldn't have worked on the PSN version anyway.

So my PSN download FINALLY completed, and I stopped playing after about 30 minutes because I had to torture myself to watch that On the Spot crap for a LBP beta key.
