a guy just won one of my auctions today (2/19) and asks me if he can pay on the first of march, saying he's "responsible" and "always pays his bills"

this guy has 0 feedback...should i just wait until the first or relist it immediately?

Is it an expensive item? If you say yes, watch his bidding to see if he bids on the same item from other sellers to get a better price

Eh, waiting won't hurt anything. If he's full of shit then you'll know in 9 days.

Maybe see if he can make a partial payment for good faith?

total is gonna be a little less than 40 shipped...how do i watch his bidding on other items?

hmm, that might work...i might mention that

Yeah, I dunno. If people are "responsible" enough to bid, they should be responsible to pay. What does your terms of auction state when payment is due?

if the link doesn't work, just go to the home page, click advanced search, then on the left click items by bidder, then search his name
yea, he also bid on a 15 dollar sims playstation 1 game...

thanks for the link

unfortunately, i did not state a specific time period in which they had to pay me in...i never have, and people have always paid me within 4 days or so

i guess i should specify next time

If it's not something you think will quickly lower in value I'd give him the 9 days. If he hasn't paid by then file the NPB on the 10th. You have to wait 7 days to start the NPB anyway, so it's basically like giving him an extra 3 days. No big whoop IMO.

I've had this happen one time and the person paid right when they said, so it does sometimes work out.

well, he just paid...kind of sketchy that he says he was gonna pay on the 1st, and he pays me the DAY OF the auction's ending...weird

Maybe he didn't think he'd have the money but now he does?

Glad to hear the guy paid, swetooth. As whoknows pointed out, perhaps he has funds he wasn't counting on. (heh, maybe is more responsible than he thought)
I've had this happen one time and the person paid right when they said, so it does sometimes work out.
I had a lady who bought some of my old vhs tapes when I had replaced them with dvds, and it wasn't until after the auction that she asked about paying in two weeks by MO and blah blah blah. She was nice and the money came eventually. But she added me to her favorites list and then bought an old fat DS... same sort of deal. Only could it be shipped by X for a birthday and the payment sent in half in two weeks...

The payment got lost in the mail, and had to be re-issued. As the ds was my bro's I couldn't mail it without his approval and he refused to send until full payment was recieved. Which was the only scenario I felt comfortable with, myself.

I've since added her to my blocked bidder list as it's just too much of a hassle, and way too iffy.

I find that the people who are honest enough to tell you upfront that they can't pay until xyz date actually pay. It's the ones who never respond and hope you'll go away (or think they have no obligation) that make up 90% of my NPB's...

He's obviously new to ebay, since he has no feedback. Perhaps he's just not familiar with how fast payment is handled, and wanted to cover himself, but came into the money earlier than expected.
Don't waste your time. They never come through.
Everyone's a first bidder on eBay at some point in their life. I just don't get why people have to automatically assume the worst of them.
