CAG CONTEST: Best CAGcast Flash Movie Wins $100 - Congrats to Vidpower...winner!
Hello there! I decided to post make an entry after hearing Cheapy say that there was only one contestant! Well there's two now! Audio is from the latest episode #57 and mainly from the point AFTER which Cheapy mentions the contest. :p

It may offend, but probably not!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkd7K4PpoVA

Also, it's worth noting that if this entry wins.... You can play it ON the CAGcast because it's mainly there for the audio, although I must say I put quite the effort into the imagery as well!
there's actually 3. Though mine may not count for not being a movie, but a full on video game.

Ah ok, I didn't know if yours was an entry or not since it wasn't a video.

Even if I don't win, if you, Cheapy, like my work on the game design I am willing to put together exclusive CAG games for CAG... I need to flex my game making muscles and doing some games for this site will certainly help.

CheapyD - just sent in my entry. Hopefully a 4mb attachment isn't an issue.

Vidpower - I like your choices for the sound bytes. They weren't all from one episode right? So how'd you find them?

I wanted to go through all the episodes but it would've taken too long I opted to work more on the animation part of the movie.

Great entrys guys.

Cheapy: I'd love to see more of these type of audio/video/flash mashup type humor stuff. I'd definately do one. Maybe a big one for the summer when a lot of us have free time? I'd love to do some sort of live-action videogaming goodness.

I went back to the very early episodes and picked out a funny part from each episode. Then I pieced it all together with Audacity Portable. At first it was hard to find the funny parts, but I noticed that whenever CheapyD or Wombat laughs, Audacity shows a spike in the sound wave, so I just went to the parts of each episode that had sound spikes. And yeah, it took quite a while to go through each episode one by one.

Does anyone know of a free flash to video converter that doesn't stick a big ugly watermark on the converion?

I'd like to get all the entries up on youtube.

Spent the day redoing the ending (and adding an ending song and about an extra minute).

In (just before) the end. (It's 11:10 EST as I am mailing this to Cheapy.)

I sure hope he's going by US times...

I wish I had thought of that - I listened to 20 Cagcasts over and over and took notes. I did this while I was doing other things (including washing dishes and, um, driving).

It took forever, but I got a lot of out-of-context stuff that didn't generate a laugh, but sounds slightly amusing re-edited.

Even for mine I used Audacity. Highly recommended program. I even use it for putting together my rss radio show.

For mine, I'll be totally honest and say ait took me 5 min to find the sound that I wanted. Try to find it, it's hard to miss.

I used the show notes that Cheapy posts with each 'cast for a general idea on which each was about. I was able to find a few good talking points to take on into the project.
Looks good, but I get an error msg when I try to convert these flash files...any ideas?
I had the same problem when I tried converting .swf files to any video format. Unfortunately, I've tried a bunch of solutions and none of them work. According to their FAQ, it seems the problem is caused by a video codec not being installed.
I get an error everytime I try to convert an FLV file to another format. What's the deal?

A. Your FLV source file is using a non supported video codec called VP6.
SUPER © can only encode SWF and FLV files containing the FLV video codec.
The same error might occur with other containers like MOV, MP4 or 3GP using some unsopported codecs
like vorbis (audio codec).
According to a mod on the SUPER forums, here's his explanation
There are currently 2 widely available FLV file-type on the net.
The most commun one uses a Video Codec called flv1 (which is a sorenson H.263)
this one can be played by SUPER(C) and encoded to other formats with the "Use DirectShow" Un-checked.

A second type is also available, this one uses a Video Codec called flv4 (which is a On2 VP6)
This type CANNOT be played on SUPER(C), however, you may be able to encode it
to other formats if, and ONLY if you have the appropriate DirectShow filter to read flv4 codec.
Therefore, the "Use Directshow" option must be checked in this case.

conclusion:
flv1 can be played, can be encoded with "Use Directshow" Un-Checked
flv4 CANNOT be played, can be encoed (if filter installed) with "Use Directshow" Checked

Now, the obvious question would be: why the flv4 Directshow filter wasn't released with the last SUPER(C) version.
The answer is even more obvious: It wasn't available at that time (April 2006)
The second question would be: where can I get it?
I would answer: from here
Save it to your Windows\System32 folder (For WinNt, Win2K, WinXP, Vista)
also get this one then double click to run it.

The coming soon new version will handle both types..
I tried this solution but it still doesn't work for me. Maybe it'll work for you... It's either that or hope they release a new version soon...
I was able to save my flash project in avi and was able to find a converter to mpg. (So that may be an option for the other people who sent in a flash movie). Mine is up on youtube but I can't seem to find it using the search function. Here's the link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT3sznqy4Eo
Not a bad idea, saving it as an AVI right from Flash.

My problem is that, I suspect, it changes it from 12 fps to 25, thus COMPLETELY screwing up the lip-synching to the audio. (And changing a 300 megs! :p )

I may go back and see what I can do about that...but I'm not sure what I can do, if anything.

I've got entries from:
William H. Macy
inubu
degital
vidpower
ryanw
RelentlessRolento (game)
bartex
plumenoir
loaded
wurz-7
jngx80

The winner will be announced on the next CAGcast, which will be next week as we are taking this week off.

Thanks for all your hard work...they look great!

Check the OP for bunch of the entries on Youtube...
I'm trying to some get the flash-based entries in a user friendly format for easy viewing, but I havent had a chance yet. If some the creators have a way to do it themeselves, that would be cool.

I have been trying to, Cheapy, but I stated in an earlier post, I haven't been able to get it synched.

I can convert it, but I haven't been able to keep the default 12.5 framerate I used. Otherwise, it jumps to a 25 fps rate and the lip synching becomes off and makes it unwatchable. And I haven't been able to convert with Super (I think because I used Alpha in my Flash).

I'll try again and if I am successful, I'll will post it on YouTube. Unless anyone know of anyplace that'll host SWFs the way YouTube hosts movies...

you could always publish it as a standalone projector(.exe for PCs) and upload it to yousendit.

besides I thought the judges were cheapy and wombat

They are the judges, but I just wanted to share.

I really didn't want to do it as an .exe - but I may have no choice....
I'm getting a kick out of the videos. Nice idea to post them all!
It's nice to see the different directions everyone took with their videos. Win or lose, I hope this kind of contest happens again sometime.

I don't know about anybody else, but as soon as I was done with my video, I started thinking up ideas for another one.

Ok...I think I got them all posted in the OP now.
I've also moved this thread to the CAGcast forum.

WOW.

VidPowers video was off the chain. Ryan W Video was made pretty well also.
jngx80 videos was kick ass at the beginning then it fell off half way through.

Because my flash doesn't play right on some systems as an IE plug-in, I put the .exe at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W6OWILEO

The sound will be better synched that way. Cheapy, you could probably even change the first post to that link, or use that .exe (it's about 1.22 megs).

I have been trying to sign up for a few days with yousendit.com, but they never sent the validation email, no matter which email address I used.

Degital and vidpower are good

inubu-meh

Rywateska-crap

William H. Macy-crap

jngx80-kinda crap

Bartex-WTF? Was the audio fucked up?

Loaded-Too short to really compete

Plumenoir-ROFFLE! Could have used some more animations and what not, though

Wurz-7- Very original idea, but its short length takes it out of the running, IMO

I was very impressed with many of the entries. It was hard to choose a winner, but it will be announced wednesday morning on CAGcast #58.

The suspense is killing me. Unfortunately I won't be able to tune in to hear who won since I'll be on a business trip for the rest of the week. So congratulations to the winner.

However I would like to point out that I should get bonus points because I, unknowingly, subjected myself to cruel punishment in the process of creating my movie (after gathering my robocop screenshots I attempted to play the Robocop 3 SNES game). Anyone looking for a challenge, look no further than that game.

Thank you so much CheapyD and Wombat for picking me as the winner. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.

I'd like to give some comments on the other entries as well.

bartex - Great animation on the talking mouths, and the "big ass chains" part was great.
loaded - Funny animation on the gun shooting and Wombat's eyes popping out when he sniffed the half and half.
plumenoir - Great fusion of various audio clips to create a funny conversation between CheapyD and Wombat.
wurz-7 - Holy cow! That was some of the best drawings I've ever seen. Are you an artist? If not, you should consider being one. Terrific job on the custom animation too. It feels just like playing the actual Gears of War game!
relentlessrolento - Very fun game. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and the music was top-notch.
degital - Seriously, I've watched your video at least 15 times already! I keep laughing every time I watch your video. It is just so so hilarious. The presentation is very professionally done as well.
inubu - Superb job on the editing of the pictures. Your photoshopping skills are top-notch.
rywateska - The intro is very well done, and the mouths are perfectly synched to the audio.
william h. macy - Hilarous pictures that go perfectly with the audio. And the credits are spiffy too.
jngx80 - Nice custom drawings and animation on the PaRappa part. And good job on the Top Gun part as well. Your ending animation with CheapyD and Wombat talking next to the mic was great too.

As soon as I saw yours I thought to myself, "How can I work a shopping cart smashing into a tower of Cocoa Krispies into my video?"

Great job. Very entertaining from start to finish.
