CAG Fantasy Stock Game

Nice work today Mak. Not a shining day for me. I reinvested a lot of cash. I made some good sells on Amazon at 53 and Ford when it was up a bit. Not much I could have done with the rest of my stocks all stumbling though. I think tomorrow will help me out a bit.
From 4th place yesterday to 19th today. All my shares are in the red. lovely.
Feb is a long way away, especially with such a volatile market.

I will likely be in last place by the end of today

Also, if this game does well, can we have a second fantasy stock game which lasts longer?

I shouldntve second guessed my first impulse, which is to put the maximum on Nintendo. I'd be up like 13.76% since we started :|

Shorting Sony worked pretty good too :D

DRYS is an old favorite of mine. A pure play on the strength of the global economy and the demand for shipping. I rode it up from $20 to well over $100 last year and was then short earlier this year from $85 down to $22. It is a great mover for active traders but this big pop off the lows of under $4 to over $12 is pure short covering. As far as global shippers go, DRYS has one of the worst balance sheets in the industry.
I'm getting murdered. Hopefully my Ford/GM purchases payoff when the bailout comes through.
You do know that this "bailout" is nothing more than a loan that will enable them to continue to operate through Q1, long enough for it to be Obama's problem.

Before all is said and done with these companies, I bet the common equity holders will be wiped out.
Gah! Budge edged me out at the end of the day. He's ahead by $25. :bomb:
Muhahahaha.

Well, I had $15,000 in cash sitting aside, and I decided to buy up some Microsoft stock, which I actually do own in real life and has stayed pretty steady.

If Sirius ever comes back up on par with what I purchased it at, I am totally selling it.

It's a game, i really don't care what happens to them.
Is there a way to do currency exchanges or bet on currency....futures or whatever?
There are ETFs that track a currency.

Ah you can see people's pending limit orders as well. That's like seeing the hole cards.

wow has high hopes for F. :D

Protip: Nintendo always drops on NPD day(which is today). Its a trend I noticed back when I had actual Nintendo stock. Never figured out exactly why, but its reliable.

game won't let me buy the stock i want due to volume issues... says it hasn't traded enough yet today for me to be able to buy.

very odd

Yeah I hit that with a few earlier. For one of them it's volume was way less than what google finance was showing. :whistle2:k

Damn, today is horrible day. All of my stocks are down 1%-5% for the day. However, most of mine are still providing a profit for me.

figures, I should have waited on Lockheed

edit: also wish this SICHAUN EXPRESSWAY stock would finally go through with selling it

Can I ask how you guys find companies to invest in?

I tried Sony, Nintendo, MS and General Mills but how do you find stocks that are less common?

I trade for a living and have become familiar with thousands of companies over the years. As far as finding trade setups goes, I use a few stock screeners to help identify potential trade setups that meet the technical conditions I like to trade.

I just looked at stocks that are mostly large-cap, and said "Is this stock over or unvalued" It's tough to tell, but just take a look at some stocks. Google I bought at ~290, and I think that that stock will go up to at least ~350 as the economy recovers. Others were things that may move soon (Ford, etc). I have a short term strategy as well (in terms of the 3 months of this game), which we'll see how it goes.

As far as the stocks tanking this week, I'm thinking I'm just going to sit on them. Everything I bought I think is undervalued (except for Ford), so I think I'll gain back whatever I lost over the next week or two.

I've went with cheap low risk high reward stocks with this game rounded out with some higher but undervalued stocks (though this past week they've been getting their asses handed to them).

Pretty much the opposite direction in my everyday game on Investopedia

Don't worry, I bet we end the day higher. I'm long SSO, GS, FDX, UYM and AAPL right now. Letting them all run with 1.5% stops in place.

Damn. I was too busy this morning to play around with investopedia this morning. I wanted to sell some automotive stocks short and/or dump Nissan. I'm down $1,000+ for the day. :/

DMK's picks are shaping up nicely for the day.

LOL.....got stopped out of all those long positions at nearly the exact same time. But all of them pulled in profits of 2-6% so I'm pretty happy.

Looking to rebuy several of the positions like SSO if the weighted moving 6 can manage to turn up through the downtrending mean on the 15 minute chart.
