Best Domestic Fighting Game release
Nominees:
Virtua Fighter 5 (360)
King of Fighters XI (PS2)
NeoGeo Battle Colliseum (PS2)
UMK3 (DS)
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (Wii / PS2)
Fatal Fury Battle Archives Vol. 1 (PS2)
Despite never having played it (other than a brief encounter with the 360 demo), I'm gonna say Virtua Fighter 5. Simply on the principle that it's the only "new" fighter on the list that got released on consoles for the very first time in 2007.
Nominees:
Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (or 5.0 / 5.1)
Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (or other iterations)
Street Fighter 2 (any incarnation)
Dead or Alive 4
King of Fighters XI
Virtua Fighter 5
of these choices, it would be the Street Fighter 2 variations
Biggest Fighting News of 2008
Nominees:
Street Fighter 4 is finally announced (and has 3D graphics)
Sonic is in Super Smash Bros
Virtua Fighter 5 for 360 with Xbox Live play
Darth Vader and Yoda to appear in Soul Calibur 4
ohhhh that's gotta be Street Fighter IV!

Nominees:

while I think "most enthusiastic UMK3 player" would be a much more appropriate nomination for myself, I appreciate the nod, Jim! Anyway, I'll vote for Jim since he's the only guy in the list I've played against, and he was very good.

I'll say SFIV, since those were the discussions that personally interested me the most.

I'll say Gigan because we got to have an entertaining Kaillera throwdown at one point.

I'll stick to what I own, which narrows it down to DS and 360. I love my DS, but the epic multiplayer gaming sessions with custom soundtracks streamed straight from my PC are too much to pass up... gotta go with XBOX 360 for this one!
Sweet poll, and here's hoping for an action-packed 2008 (which seems pretty unavoidable, I'm glad to say)!
I've played multiple matches against 3 Lau's online, a warrior, a 10th dan, and an 8th dan over the last week. Between the three of them, I've seen enough Lau moves, combos, and strategies to make me want to try playing as him next.
I'm probably the only person who liked Tekken 4. Yes, the game is a bit unbalanced, and Jin is a total god, but it was still fun. Although one of my friends banned it from his house (jokingly) after he broke 2 controllers playing it. He's got a temper.
It looks like Tekken 6 has some pretty big problems already.
Is it gonna be as bad as tekken4?
The videos are coming from guys who work with Namco, they're just trying to find out all the broken stuff before the international patch is released later this month.
Rest assured, it seems Namco's Tekken team is very focused on balancing this game as much as possible. They're still working on character customizations/items as well.
The only really broken things I've seen from those videos is the Nina WS+1 combos (can be viewed at www.sdtekken.com , main article).
The death combos are very situational, and in a match, I guarantee neither you nor I nor anyone else that reads this, will ever have a chance to land it in Tekken 6's short lifespan(probably going to be around 3-4 years before the next game). That's how situational they are...
Chac: I know about that PM thing... I heard about it before I think... But you know, I'm LAZY... hint hint.

Thank you MM.
I can rest easy now.

Can I use my tekken 5 stick on my triple with the usb converter?
Probably. My stick uses a Sony PS1 controller, non dual shock, no analog, and it works fine. I could test my Tekken 5 stick, if you want to know right now.
Seeing as I am at work, and want to play Soul Calibur when I get home, that would be awesome for you to test.
Works like a champ with Tekken 5 DR. No input lag. Makes me want to mod this stick, throw in some Sanwa parts and make it my VF5 stick. Blasphemy!!

Do you have the Pelican PS2/PS3 USB Converter? That shit is hot.
I use both my Tekken 5 stick and my custom PS2 stick with that PS3 converter and I get ZERO lag. It's nice since I don't have to drag out the CRT to practice CVS2.
Being sick ing sucks. I want to go out to the local arcade tonight and hit up CVS2, but my breathing is for shit (bronchitis).

I assume that's the one he has. Works great with PC too. Too bad they're hard to find now. Next time I see one, I'm going to pick it up. On mine, the lights keep blinking, even after I press the PS button. Still works fine, so no biggie. I'll just paint over the lights.
Ive got the radio shack one.
It works with DS2, so Im hoping it will work for me.
There's a chance it might. My Red Octane 3 in 1 adapter works, no lag, but the buttons are all flipped. Which adapter do you have? Gimme a pic.

King of Fighters XI (PS2)
While VF5 was a better production than KoFXI, the gameplay in KoF just demolishes the gameplay of VF5 IMO. KoFXI is one of my favorite fighters ever. It's that good.
Best Import Fighting Game release
Nominees:
World Heroes Collection (PS2)
Although I don't have the collection (I have the actual MVS of WH2 Jet for my Neo Cabinet, so there is no real point), I honestly really enjoy the WH games. They're not the greatest in terms of depth, but there fun and have some kind of cool characters (Hanzo, the knight girl, Dragon) and some laughable but unique characters as well (Jack, Mudman, Broken, Rasputin). The game is just fun to play.

You know, when I was making these I originally also had a category for "worst discussed topic" and also included "Is Smash Bros. really a fighter" because it comes up to much and can get annoying. However, it's (almost) always fun to have the discussion so it's easy for me to vote on this one.

Gaming wasn't as good before 360. Live is just to convenient (even though it sometimes has its hiccups)
There's a chance it might. My Red Octane 3 in 1 adapter works, no lag, but the buttons are all flipped. Which adapter do you have? Gimme a pic.
I cant find it, but I just read somewhere that the buttons work but not the stick.
Doesn't work with my PS3. Seems OK with a Dual Shock, but it's laggy as with any non analog controllers, like the T5 stick, my stick, etc.
This Red Ocane one is golden. Works perfectly. No lag. But the buttons are flipped with my PS3 i.e. L1 and L2, R1 and R2, triangle and circle, square and X, and start and select are swapped with each other. http://www.redoctane.com/universaladapter.html
My friend picked up one with his PS3 last month. So there's still a chance you'll find one. But it's not a good chance. He found it at Gamestop. I bought mine at Circuit City.
I may or may not have a list of the roster for Smash Bros, and I may or may not be willing to PM it to whoever PMs me. I may have already sent it out to a few of you.
I may or may not have gotten an intresting PM listing the Smash Bros. roster. Very intresting. Can we disscus it without getting someone in hot-water?
mega cool. But I didn't see it.

i'll be honest and say, even with how much i disliked the second smash bros this one is too meaty to not like.
Just played some VF5 (big surprise). I'll be on later, possibly when I get up, if anyone wants to play. Since it's currently 4:28 AM, that won't be anytime soon.

I saw you were on I almost played with you.
But I was watching Season 1 of the Wire for the 3rd time.
Coz now I knowz dat the only reason to buy it Baseball Stars 2 and Shock Troopers. That's enough for me. Sold.
I may have to pass this up. I just bought Baseball Stars 2 for the VC. The only other games I'm intrested in is Shock Troopers & Last Resort. But if I see it for $10 I'll pick it up. Wish they wouldn't add games from other collections like Metal Slug, AOF & World Heroes. I'd perfer to see games that couldn't be found in other collections.
I don't see why SNK is trying to shove AOF down our throats yet again. It sucks. Most of their old games are trash, and they know it. But whatever. The only games I'd like to see on an inevitable second compilation are Windjammers, Sengoku 3, Waku Waku 7, and Shock Troopers 2. Unless I'm forgetting something. Maybe Breaker's Revenge.
Dammit, SNK, why skip all those good games with this?
Ah well, my dream of owning Baseball Stars 2 will finally be realized.
SNK just blue-balled us again. I'm surprised they just didn't make a Baseball Stars Collection and charge us $15 for it. But it's good to see SNK still knows not to give us too much awsomeness. Just enough to make us hungry for Vol.2, Vol.3, etc...
I saw you were on I almost played with you.
But I was watching Season 1 of the Wire for the 3rd time.
I almost invited you, but you were watching a movie, and it was pretty late, so I didn't want to bother you.
I'll be on later, if anyone wants to battle me. And for the record, Waku Waku 7 is badass.
yeah, to me it feels like a rehash with some added stuff. not a total do over.
Yeah, that's how it seems. But I'm hoping--really hoping--that I'm just delusional.

That's mainly because I love fighters, and will play just about any of them. Plus, I was a lurker for a while, but I've posted WAY more in the last year or so. Finally having internet access at my house instead of my friends' house changed that.
