CAG GTAIV Night: Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel[ 9/2 @ 10pm EST ]
Making fun of me cause I dont have a mic..well maybe's time I ponied up for one. What's the cheapest place I can get one?
I picked up mine from Gamestop, brand new, for $19.99. I had a used SOCOM(original PS2 bundle) headset which HAD a mute button, but I dumped it since it was used and I figured I'd never really use it.

Then again, I rarely use my headset as it is now, except to annoy and amuse others when I hum or sing in some made up gibberish.

Otherwise, I only really use the headset to listen in on my teammates strategizing in TDM or whatever mode we're playing.

If you don't mind a USED headset, this is the SOCOM one I had. It's down to only $9.99 now @ Gamestop: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=29462

There's also this Motorola brand one(made to look like an NFL coaches headset), which comes with a 12' cable, mute button and volume control. This one is $14.99 NEW:
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=61613

Then there's THIS one, which is the one I own. It must've been on special for $19.99 when I bought it with credit. It's pretty comfortable, though last night it kept slipping off my damn head. It's currently $24.99 NEW:

Just a few options to think about..
Because we're special. :newbie:

I think the concensus last night was that if you're just going be singing on the headset the whole time, don't use one.
Indeed. Amen. Hallelujah.

Save that shit for Xbox Live. ;)
I think the concensus last night was that if you're just going be singing on the headset the whole time, don't use one.
How did it sound coming across with the voice changer on a -1 though? I usually only speak in gibberish or laugh when people get annoyed at me on TDM games when I run them over, then take the liberty to back over them a second time to make sure they're dead.:D

Otherwise, this headset has been a major league waste of credit.

I just kind of prefer to be the silent type usually, but I was in a singing kind of mood last night.
I think the concensus last night was that if you're just going be singing on the headset the whole time, don't use one.
Singing over PSN... did TMK get GTAIV?
Singing over PSN... did TMK get GTAIV?
Good grief.

Ever try to set someone on fire with your mind? That's how I feel whenever I'm in a game with that dude. :hot:
At one point it sounded like you were in full Beavis mode. I'm pretty sure I heard a "cornholio" in there.
Beavis mode, huh? Well, maybe if Beavis was being tortured by the guy from Saw. I think I've only set the voice changer to normal once and I didn't like how my voice sounded, so I set it back to -1 or -2 or so.

I had it up on +3 or so last week and I sounded like Chip N Dale from Disney.

I think that was me -_-.

I really wish this game had a talk button. Listening to noise and random gibberish is starting to tick me off. And I apologize for any vocal discussions I had that was off topic, I need to learn how to use the mute button.
I hate push-to-talk in games. The PSN just needs a hard-wired mute function.
Wouldn't taking the earpiece away from you work?

Though it probably won't work with seperate mics where you use system default for playback. And you can mute players in game via the cell phone.

There's a way to turn off the input through the accessories settings in the system menu, but it is in no way an elegant solution.

I usually just pop the BT off if I need to answer the phone or something instead of futzing with menus. I might just start using my wired PS2 mic again just for the mute button.

Don't feel bad, it's just metaly's cruel sense of humor. I think he has some anger issues because you should hear some of his loud rants while backseat driving during cops and crooks, that type of language should be reserved for your private vehicle only! I think a lot of people were just afraid to cross him because he hosts, but since he brought it into the thread, I think it's time we stood up for you. He really stepped over the line when he started poking fun at your blog by saying things like he'd rather take the time to read 4 OTTs then half of one of your blogs. I tried to convince him that you really give the CAG Blogs some credibility unlike 80% of the other blogs that are straight crap.

He also hates Obama and uses racial slurs towards him.
He also hates Obama and uses racial slurs towards him.
You mean IRAQ HUSSEIN OSAMA? :bomb::bomb::bomb:

I don't like push-to-talk either, for the record, although I don't see why more games can't be like Warhawk and offer both as a user-side setting. Good to know there's an in-game mute option, though.
In mostly-unrelated news, you bastards should buy Killzone 2 for $52. It's gonna rawk.
I'd like to make a counter-offer... Battlefield 2142 for $19.99. It's been out for a while but it is rawking to this day.

In game mute option? For GTA IV or for Warhawk(which I'll never play due to the lack of an offline single player mode)?

I really should've stuck with the SOCOM headset, since I had it for 4-5 days before deciding to dump it back on GS.

Ahhh well....you live and learn, though if I buy back another one with my cheap credit I may dump my Logitech one for $12-13 shipped instead of the $20+ I paid.

Is that for Xbox or PS3? ;)
So anyone get Saints Row 2 yet?
I had it but I traded it to some dude on CAG.
Yea some lame dude

So anyways back to the headsets my local GS has this one
The wired ps3 one $14.99
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=67302

And the mad catz Bluetooth $19.99
http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?product_id=65208

Now if I used the coupon for 20& off used accessories will my edge card stack with it as well?

Also which headset is better? Any experience with either? Don't make me go blog about this....
I have the $14.99 used one personally, though it's a bit uncomfortable at times and there is NO MUTE BUTTON ON IT. Otherwise, I'd just keep the mute button on and just listen in to what my teammates are saying.

If you can find them, Sears had GE branded Bluetooth headsets(don't remember the model # though) for .97 each. They're powered by a single double or triple A battery. The one CAG I play against(PSN name:LUDE), who joined us for a wee bit on Weds, has one and they seem to have no problems with it.

Of course, they also have a ton of cheap batteries they also picked up from Sears for .20 a pack to power it.

If anything, looking back on it now, I'd rather have the credit still and have forgone the headset route. Either that or I should've stuck with the SOCOM headset, since it at least had a mute button.

That's actually the one I use most of the time...I have the new Playstation Bluetooth headset and I prefer the wired Logitech. The sound quality is better (and louder) than the BT, your voice broadcasts louder, and you won't have to stop gaming to recharge the battery!

One caveat: I don't know how far you sit from your PS3 but I had to buy a USB extension cord from Monoprice to be able to use the headset comfortably. If you're more than 10 feet away you'll need to consider that.

And, yeah...the EDGE card always stacks.

I read that high-quality mode on the official headset makes you sound really quiet to other people, which explains some problems I was having. I still didn't care for it much, although the giant mute button was nice.

Is there a low-quality mode that makes you louder? I'll have to read that manual again.

I forget if you enable high-quality mode via a button or through the XMB, but yeah. Supposedly the normal mode makes you louder, which is about the loudness of people using any other headset.

Does anyone here use the official set in HQ mode? Nobody really sounds clearer to me than anyone else.

I think the headset has to be docked and connected via USB for HQ mode to work... not 100% sure on that though.

I do. My buddy also uses it and at first he didn't set it up though usb, and it sounded bad. I explained to him how to set it up though usb, he then signed back on and it was night and day the way he sounded with HQ on and HQ off. The noise canceling feature is what is really great about the headset.
I think the headset has to be docked and connected via USB for HQ mode to work... not 100% sure on that though.
In order to use HQ mode the headset HAS to be paired with the system ONCE though usb only. If you try to set up the headset like a normal bluetooth(wireless) it will work just like a "regular" headset and will not have all of the HQ features and options.
I thought only certain games supported HQ mode? I've been using the official BT since November.
From what I can tell, it makes a difference overall. Because, the buddy I mention earlier about helping him set his headset up we were using the chat room on PSN to talk and it make a great difference in quality. That's how I could tell that he had set his headset up right.
Hmmm...I did the USB pairing when I first received it and it's still too quiet. I'll have to poke at it.
When you say it's too quiet, is you hearing others? Or others hearing you?

If it's you go into your settings though the PS3 for your head set and raise the volume, and if you can't hear others the turn up the volume on your headset with the buttons on the headset.

There is a glitch with the ps3 headset when set to HQ mode.

The mic level can be adjusted within the xmb, however, the actual microphone level stays at 2.7-ish. That's why people sound softer if they're at HQ mode. Sony needs to fix this.

For now if you want to be heard versus HQ mode, just pair via bluetooth. But you have to disconnect then reconnect the wireless headset to maintain the level 5 mic. fucking Sony.

Question, was I hearable in the past games versus previous games? I tried it without HQ mode.

Really, if you're in HQ you sound softer? How do I come through then? I've been in HQ for 2 months now and don't think I've been shouting into the mic.

2.7 isn't that soft. But I'd much prefer to set it up to 5. Go ahead and check in acessory settings and audio acessories. Try the different sound levels and see if you notice a difference with mic volume. It shouldn't change if you have HQ enable (if you paired via USB).

I can definitely reach the red band if i put the ps3 headset right into or very near my mouth. But when it is placed on my ear, it can only reach 1/5th of the bar when talking normally.
Got the official ps3 blur tooth one for $27 after the coupon I might return it and go with the wired one....
Wow, metaly's underhanded tactics worked

Price/Quality/Features the Official Headset is the best value. Never had a problem hearing anyone or being heard. Metaly quit hatin'
It's true, there are people I can't hear at all, they sound like they are across the room from their mic.
It could be that they have the mic docked, acting as a speakerphone

Maybe, it seems others can hear them just fine though, as I occasionally hear what, to me, sound like one sided conversations.

Anyone up for playing hangman's noose for some money?

Including me, I'd need two others. Just post in here, pm me, or IM me, if interested.

A mic would be appreciated so we could finish the games faster.
When you say it's too quiet, is you hearing others? Or others hearing you?
I mean others hearing me. I had pushed everything in the XMB up to 5 and still found that people were asking me to repeat myself. I'm kind of a loud dude, so I was surprised that people couldn't hear me...that doesn't happen often. ;)
Randy you sound loud and clear in Socom, which is one of the only games that uses HQ voicechat.
I had only used the Sony BT headset when I first started playing SOCOM...for the last few weeks I've been back to using my Logitech USB headset which is probably why I sound loud and clear. I'll try the BT again next time we play and ask for a group consensus.

Thanks for the info. I don't recall ever having a problem hearing you.

SURVEY SAYS: Who cares what you sound like, as long as they can hear me doing my William Hung impersonation and laughing like a madman whenever I runs someone over.

I know everybody enjoyed my delightfully annoying tactics during last week's game.

This is what happens when I'm stuck home on a Weds night and playing GTA IV.

By the way, can I make a request for MORE sniper rifle TDM games and ALOT less RPG ones?

Dude! The official headset kept crashing my whole PS3. It was like it was trying to make me hate it. :nottalking::lol:

I'm thinking next week will be just two 45-minute games in the prison, the first rockets-only and the second projectiles.

Anyone think we can organize a free mode custom game?

Seems like people create their own games in the Free Roam mode, and I was thinking it'd be fun if we could too.

I'd be down for some of that tonight or even some good old fashioned multiplay coop cash whoring. :p

I'll probably be on for most of the night. Probably will be playing Assassin's Creed, but just send me a message and I'll stop stabbing faces.
Anyone think we can organize a free mode custom game?

I make my own all the time, with these settings:

Friendly Fire: OFF
Police: OFF
Weapons: ALL
Private slots:either MAXED(so NO ONE can join my game and try to kill me for 40 fuckin' minutes while I sit there and laugh at their futile attempts) or up to 13 private slots so only three shmoes can join(ie NOT a majority so I can't be kicked from my own damn game)
Time of day: Morning
Weather: Clear
Peds: High
Traffic: High
Auto aim: Disallow

With those settings most people either A) quit immediately after checking game options, B) suggest 'free mode'(meaning they want friendly fire on so even if there's 100,000 peds and cars spawning all around them, they can focus on and try to kill ME) or C) try to kill me for the aforementioned 40 friggin' minutes before giving up and quitting after realizing that they CAN'T.

Any way I look at it, I'm annoyed by the third one most, since I just go into Free Mode to cruise around and cause havoc without having to worry about the cops showing up when I blow away 500 peds in 10 minutes.

Oh and by the way, I picked up a used SOCOM headset last night at the one Gamestop store where I picked up a copy of the Rise Of The Argonauts pre-order art book for free. It HAS a mute button, you lucky lucky bastards, so no more karaoke singing for me while on mic.

I absolutely hate deathmatches in the prison. It's almost as lame as having auto aim turned on and shooting people with an M4 from 4 blocks away killing them with like 2 bullets. I don't understand how thats fun for anybody after a week. The game is so much more fun with auto aim turned off and a few modes are better with blips far, never team, or off.
The only thing gayer than killing 20 scrubs with an M4 from 4 blocks away with auto aim on, is playing in the prison, or having no blips or team blips.
I absolutely rape people when they pick no blips or team blips and then just camp with a rocket launcher or an m4. I simply go on their team and plummel them with rockets and grenades. If I feel extra devilish I will get a firetruck and spray them all the way accross the street before I run them over repeatedly. They really need to fix the game searches because I have cut back on about half my gta4 playing time because most people don't know how to have the most fun by picking the right settings.
