CAG GTAIV Night: Same Bat-Time, Same Bat-Channel[ 9/2 @ 10pm EST ]
For the Cannonball race, you need to use your map, set a waypoint to the next checkpoint, and continue racing. Biff races are more forgiving and is probably why it's a standard for CAG Nights.
You don't NEED to use the minimap. I don't half the time.
Well... That is... I don't set waypoints half the time.

Seriously, Airtug = best vehicle in the game. I will fight to the (multiple)death(s) until I reclaim mine.

Good to see another night full of people. I know it's GTA4, but it still boggles my mind that new people show up like every week. Whether they used to play and are coming back or are completely new. GTA4 has staying power.
We play from 10pm EST till usually midnight. Although, this week we played for an extra 30 minutes or so.

As for the controls and map, Liberty City is COMPLETELY redesigned from the version in GTAIII and the controls are akin to the original Xbox ports of the PS2 trilogy last gen, in that the gas and brake are the shoulder buttons and not the face buttons.

There's a 16 player limit to ALL games, with several games being capped at 4-5, I believe.

If you see me on and playing, chances are I'm either playing Team Deathmatch with another fellow CAG who used to play on Weds nights with us or I'm just cruising around in Liberty City and causing havoc in my own Free Mode game. However, in order to see me on, you'll have to add me as a friend. Just make sure to send a notation in the invite that you're from CAG or I'll probably delete it.
alright will do :)

look forward to playing with you guys

Interesting choice of words. :nottalking:
Weird how Rockstar didn't include an Airtug in the Racing options.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29-wy9BJGEE
I'm annoyed that you can't race as three vehicles: Airtug (obviously), forklifts, and the PRIUS. How hilarious would a Prius drag race be? I don't even think they spawn in multiplayer. :bomb:

If not for the CAG GTA night, I would probably try and sell this game and be done with it, which is a first for a GTA game for me.

I played and played and played even more of the prior installments on the PS2 and Xbox. Though, I have to admit that the PS2/Xbox gen installments having custom soundtracks on the Xbox versions was probably the reason I kept coming back to THOSE.

Couple that with being able to fly the attack chopper without looking like a total fuckin' retard doing it and you have my main two reasons I kept going back to Vice City and to a lesser extent San Andreas. It was during the transition to SA that they totally fucked the control scheme for the choppers all to hell.

The controls for this game STILL blow after more than a year and I still find myself either powersliding or spinning out when I don't intend to.

Of course, I still do know how to get kills with cars, which is still somewhat my main tactic. But it's just NOT the same. If the controls for the attack choppers were the same in this game as Vice City on the PS2, I'd be picking you all off from high above with no problem whatsoever.

There's more than that isn't there?
Isn't there a bigger vehicle that spawns at the airport?

You want a terrible experience trying to fly a chopper Cheapest? Go play Battlefield Bad Company. GTA4 makes it seem like the chopper is practically set to autopilot in comparison.

But I don't mind flying a chopper in BBC... but I've never done it in multiplayer, just the single player campaign.

I just meant those are the top three I would want to race, so of course they aren't selectable. :bomb:

It's really stupid you can't race as any vehicle.

Or try Battlefield 1942 Desert Combat. Good fucking luck trying to fly a heli in that game.

Of course its difficult to fly a helicopter in 1942. Damned things didn't exist for real military use then! :)

I was tempted to pick up Battlefield: BC a while back, but I opted not to and I was REALLY waiting anxiously for the PS3 version of Frontlines: Fuel Of War(which was cancelled :bomb:).

As for other vehicles you can't race with, what about that big truck that spawns at the airport? I don't know the name of it, but it spawns in quite a few places. One of which is closer to the helipads there. It's a big blocky vehicle, from what I recall and I don't think I've ever seen it in any of the races. It's another utility vehicle around the airport.

I miss being able to hook up stuff to tow with those small baggage type vehicles though. I also miss the ability to attach any trailer I found lying around the game world to the cab of a semi that I was driving.

Of course, if I want that experience, I can just go play Saint's Row 2, where you can carjack a tractor trailer and cause mass mayhem with it.

Speaking of which, if anyone in this thread has that game, can you answer me one question:

Are there suicide jumpers who jump off of the higher buildings in the game(SR 2)?

I ask because my buddy was playing the one mission last night and right as he was getting ready to go into a building we both heard a sound like screaming and then an NPC dropped to the ground next to him with a thud.

BBC is fun, I'd recommend it... but not to you... just so I wouldn't feel responsible for your complaining when you find faults in it. ;)
And I tried the demo for Frontlines on the 360 and thought it felt a LOT like Quake Wars. Actually, my initial thought was "Holy shit... they cloned QW." I don't know if the online is lively in QW, but you could try that game as a replacement for Frontlines.

And... get that SR2 talk out of here... GTA4LIFE!!!
but... holy shit, if they have suicide jumpers in game that is flipping awesome!

Desert Combat is a mod for the game that uses more modern vehicles and weapons.

Yeah. I'm still shocked that I'm finding new stuff practically every time I'm playing SR2, though the suicide jumpers are only in two spots that people know of as of now.

They're at the plastic surgeons office(you can change your characters appearance and everything while playing through a game, which beats GTA's preset character model by a longshot) and over at the main skyscraper housing the Ultor Corporation.

As for me finding a fault with every game, I don't really find one with EVERY game and before GTAIV I didn't find any real faults with the GTA games(except for the 'blue hells' you could fall into in every one of them).

saints row 2 is the better single player experience but after trying the online game i think gta4 is still have a better multiplayer game.

You forgot to add....'minus all the phantom kicks, random disconnects and other problems with it' to the phrase 'GTAIV has a better multiplayer game....'.

Of course, if not for all of the Free Mode deathmatching jerks, it'd be a fun game online, but that happens in all games I suppose.

Then again, before GTAIV I dont think I played any other online games.

gta4 online definelty needs work but i enjoy it more over sr2. i hate that you cant use cover or look around corners in it. it takes me a while to adjust when switching from one game to the other. still waiting for ps3 dlc for gta4. probably will be out after gta6 is released.

Unless they added some MAJOR gameplay features to GTAIV via DLC, I wouldn't buy it since the game has become more or less the last game I pick to play when I've powered up my PS3 as of late.

Then again, outside of Ragdoll Kung-Fu and a little bit of Blasto for PS1, I haven't really played much on my own PS3 since I got it back from Sony.

But once I do start to play more, I'm thinking I'm going to be playing through Saint's Row 2 again and trying to find someone with Legends Of Wrestlemania who wants to trade for my GTAIV SE I have sealed.

ya its work and useful me...tnx

That was freakin' awesome! Where did they get all of the airtugs? There's only ever 2-3 of them at the airport.

its the only game whose multilayer ive always come back to. mgs4 was too slow and lost planet is fun but it takes sooooooooo damn long to start a game up. for single player sr2 has my attention ( until i get Infamous) . i wouldnt mind replaying bioshock but after i heard about the gameplus mode you get with the dlc im waiting and hoping it will go down in price soon. if not im gonna have to buy it so i can just carry over all the stuff i earned and found.

That's the main thing stopping me from buying most DLC for the games I have is the price.

Most of the DLC is $10 a pop. fuck that. Unless it adds a shitload of new stuff and not just junk for the online game modes, none of the DLC packs has been worth the money imo.

About the only one I've seen that's cheap is the "Blow It Up Again" DLC pack for Mercenaries 2, which is $1.99 on the store.

The only thing that'd get me to download some DLC for GTAIV and pay up to $10 for it would be if they added in destructible environments. Make it so I can topple the Rotterdam Tower building and play dominos with all of the other skyscrapers with it.

Or at least add a fuckin' parachute so I can base jump or at least NOT die when I crash my chopper in Free Mode atop one of the skyscrapers without a dedicated exit to the street.
That was freakin' awesome! Where did they get all of the airtugs? There's only ever 2-3 of them at the airport.
There's at least one up by the radar tower, one over by that middle tower in the middle of the two runways and at least 1-2 more up against the terminals at times. Plus, if you leave the immediate area and come back, they should respawn.

Yeah I feel the same way. $10 is not encouraging after I feel like I already bought the game. The only games so far with DLC that I'm leaning towards paying for are GTA IV(if the rumors come true...), Fallout, Burnout, and maybe Valkyria Chronicles. fuck LBP costumes, Burnout toy cars, etc. etc.

But this is why the system for PSN gamesharing is pure win.

---

Parachutes for helicopters/planes would actually be a sweet idea... though I'd imagine you'd just get shot out of the air many times.

Id bite and do $10 hell Id even game share with a few of you regulars.

At least at $10 with Rockstar you'd be getting something, no so much with THQ and Saints Row 2

I still am trying to figure out WHY the hell Rockstar went the 'realistic' route this time. I guess they were trying to differentiate between the last gen and current gen game(s).

Anyway, assuming they're following the same pattern as last gen, the next game should be Vice City. If they at least have a halfway decent soundtrack, I may buy the game on clearance or if I can flip some games to get cheap credit to get it. Otherwise, I'm waiting for some real reviews on it and not wasting my money unless there's some really fun shit added to the next game(flamethrowers, parachutes, destructible city, etc).

oh yea parachutes and destructible cities!

Also a huge mt with dirt bikes like in GTA SA (the best game out of the series) I literally put like 80 hrs into it
I'd like to see parachutes return as well as the military with tanks at the highest wanted level.
Stealing a tank or attack chopper in Vice City was SO easy once you did the mission where you got the cop uniform. All you had to do was stroll in and take one really.

The jump jet in SA was an interesting idea, but it definitely needed some work. I'd like to see that make a comeback in the next game.

You're welcome to join. Just send me or x3x1x a friend request.

And GTA Night is tomorrow already! The benefits of a 3-day-weekend never end.

to this day i still play san andreas for all the extra little shit they crammed into it. the triathalon, bike races, home invasion missions. saints row 2 has some cools tuff in it that rockstar should take and use in their own game but i hope they go back to the old formula with the next game.

i want harrier jets, helicopters with rockets, airplanes, bicycles, at least 30 to 40 diff weapon types, diff fighting styles, more options for multiplayer character clothing, id like to see animals around too.

especially when san andreas had that country area i always wished a bear would pop out and attack you or maybe a mountain lion since they do have those in california. and id like to see aliens and bigfoot.

thats why they need to just remake san andreas with the current gen engine ( with some major tweaks to fix known issues) and add in some extra stuff.

That would've all been interesting to see in a current gen game and hopefully Take-Two manages to stay afloat until the next GTA game releases and they implement some of the things we saw in both Vice City and San Andreas last gen.

That's about the only fear I have right now, is that by the time the 'next GTA' releases Take-Two and Rockstar will be part of the corporate goliath known as EA Games, since they were one of the parties seriously looking at TT.

BTW lolkizz, did you ever use the bike glitch while pedaling the BMX bike to jump over houses and other buildings?

There was a glitch, where if you held down the jump button while on a BMX bike, then fired a weapon like an Uzi or machine pistol while letting up on the jump button, you would literally go like 2 stories in the air.

I used it to save my ass while pedaling towards the one beach safehouse. I was going too fast to stop and I did the trick by accident that first time.

nah i didnt know about the glitch i just used the super jump code. very fun stuff. i think there ws a code to ride on water too gotta look that up.

Triangle, Square, Circle, Circle, Square, Circle, Circle, L1, L2, L2, R1, R2. Jump 100 feet in air on bike

Up, Up, Triangle, Triangle, Up, Up, Left, Right, Square, R2, R2 Jump 10 times higher

square, down, L2, up, L1, circle, up, x, left
Cars Fly

Right, R2, Circle, R1, L2, Square, R1, R2 Cars on Water

Who would've known that my seemingly random thread title would be incredibly ironic only a few days later. No, I am not a R* insider and that was not a hint about the newest DLC.

Quick! Pick me out some Powerball numbers.

Usually there's 30-45 minutes of DM/TDM/GTA race/turf war, then about an hour of Cops & Crooks, then a Cannonball Run to finish off.

Requests are always welcome, though. Also there have been some murmurs about doing Car Jack City and Mafiya Work again, so who knows what will happen.

Personally I prefer to do any mode as long as it is in teams. Only exceptions are the "special" deathmatches like rockets or sniper battles. I'm not a huge fan of DM in GTA unless it has a bit of a twist. But any mode in teams is great! So bring on Car Jack City!

If we get enough people and wanted to break up CAG GTA night into 4-5 different games(with 4-5 people per 'team'), Deal Breaker and ummmm the mode where ya rescue Petrovic are good ones to try.

Those two modes are also the best way(on HARD) to amass ALOT of money really quick and level up without alot of work.

Of course on HARD the mode where you have to get Petrovic from his plane to the baseball field on one of the smaller islands gets insanely hard and auto-aim is almost a MUST.
Car Jack City should be played with teams of 2 or every man for himself.
OK OK So maybe it doesn't get insanely hard, but it does help to have competent people playing with you who aren't going to incite a riot or bring the cops attention back on you as you're landing at the drop zone.

I played this with swavage one night I think and one of the fuckin' idiots playing with us shot the choppers as we were bringing them in, then the game froze.

But luckily Petrovic survived and we still got our money.
