I never left (besides those 6 days in a row of not playing), I just have Halo Reach and school to fit into my schedule.

I started a champion which I like better then my Runekeeper. I tried out some skirmishes on my main, and it was my favorite part the game.

Throwing this out there in case anyone wants to know:

Looks like the best deals on 'subscription' deals for VIP is either subscribing through Turbine for 3 months at $30 (Not recommended since turbine has had billing problems in the past) and then another for 60 day game time cards ($20) at GameTimeZone.com. If you go through GameTimeZone, I would suggest using google checkout as a 'just in case' precaution in the event you need to dispute charges. I went through them and it's been fine thus far since I needed to subscribe for a month and for $5 more than the usual $15 monthly fee, I get another month and another 500 points for being a subscriber.

Also to those who go the Game Time Card route, I'm going to need to warn anybody, like me, who's playing on an account they may of previously subscribed to the game with. You'll have to go through support (Phone support isn't an 800 number, you've been warned) to get the GTCs working properly, but if you enter it, post here and then wait probably around a week it should be taken care of (No guarantees of course).

Did it say the name Kaltic? Because I did end up deleting my alt (forgot to mention that). But my main is Kalorin and he is still most certainly part of the kinship.

So if you see this AdvofJet you may want to remove my alt Kaltic from the list.

Ah, that's probably what we saw happen. The strange part was that it happened when we were doing some experimenting with who had the power to add/delete people and them boom, we saw you leave the Kin. Just strange timing.

I have 500 free turbine points that are set to expire at the end of September. First to PM me gets it.

EDIT: GONE-- Sent it to DarkonJohn

I had to re-roll Guardian did not suit me. Tried a few others and ended up settling on a Hunter

Megazell - Human - Hunter - lvl 7 - Looking for a beam up :)

I used to be a subscriber to LOTRO. I haven't played it in about a year though. I have several toons on Brandywine, but I may patch it up soon and create a toon on the server that you guys are playing on.

I resubbed to WoW last week and got bored of it again after a couple of days though. I've canceled it again. LoTRO would be free though and even if I play it sparingly, I don't have to worry about wasting the $15/month. :)

This part of the game has me very interested.

http://lotro-wiki.com/index.php/Housing#Kinship_Houses

Kinship houses are the largest of houses, and are designed to be meeting halls for kinships to use for meetings, events, and general socialization. If a character is a member of a kinship that has a kinship house, they will automatically get a new skill called Travel to Kinship House which requires 1 Travelling Rations per use and has a 1 hour cooldown (separate from other recall skill cooldowns). Only the Leader of a Rank 7 Kinship or higher can purchase a Kinship House.

Kinship houses offer 80 interior decorating hooks, 12 exterior decorating hooks, and up to 3 chests can be purchased. Four different varieties of kinship houses are available:
Bree-land Kinship House
Shire Kinship House
Falathlorn Kinship House
Thorin's Hall Kinship House

Privileges: If a character is a member of a kinship that has a kinship house, they will automatically receive a discount when purchasing and repairing at the vendors inside that kinship's neighborhood. Additionally, if a character owns a personal house inside the same neighborhood as their kinship's house, then the personal discount and the kinship discount stack, for a combined discount.

Decorating the Kinship House: The leader of the kinship manages the permissions for that house, including who can enter Decoration Mode and decorate the kinship house.

Upkeep & Donations: When granted permission by the kinship leader, characters may pay for the upkeep. In the "Character Journal" in the "House" tab, it will display the upkeep fee costs for a character's personal house as well as the kinship house.

I would like to have a crack at editing the house if and when we get one. :)

Sounds like there are no objections, so I'm just curious...did you get your kids added yet? If not, let me know next time you see me in-game and I'll try to do it (toons in the Kin are Darkon and Gedric).

I keep wanting to get a house, but every time I get close to having enough silver (somethink like 800-900 silver I think for the low-end in the dwarf area) something comes up that I need to spend it on (horse, training, etc). Hoping that will change soon.

Has anyone else bought a house yet?

Also, for anyone that's been playing the game for a while, how things work with real-estate? Is there a limited number of houses per server and once they are gone you have to buy from someone else? Can you actually sell your house to someone (or the NPC vendor) and get some money back (or make money)? How often do you have to pay the maintenanc fees I saw listed? What happens if you don't/can't pay...do they foreclose on you and kick you out. Can I refinance my mortgage with the new lower interest rates? Will the government make the banks lower the principal on my loan since I'm underwater on my mortgage?

I did look at he Kinship houses and they were mega-expensive, so I stopped looking ;-)

I have not made the individual house either since having one just for me does not appeal at all...but something we can all use sounds awesome. Base building was my thing back on COH. So I quite eager to get the ball rolling for the Kinship house. Community storage sounds awesome.
So I quite eager to get the ball rolling for the Kinship house. Community storage sounds awesome.
Community storage would be really nice because I have items I'd like to donate to other players, but sending via mail is kind of a pain. Do you need to get a Kinship house to get shared storage for the Kinship?

I'm guessing that we'll need several people in the Kin to get up to the higher levels before we'll be bringing in enough spare gold to buy (and keep) a Kinship house.

You can buy a house and 'share' out your storage with other people. Standard house gives 30 slots where deluxe gives 60. Kinship gives you 90, but we won't have that for another 2 months, 2 weeks, and 1 day.

EDIT: Or am I wrong on two months and should say it's 3 months instead? I forget.

Having a individual house is a pain though if you are a casual player because you have to maintain it and pay the upkeep.

I rather put my in game currency towards the Kinship House.

In monster play - they also have Kinship? do they also have Kinship Houses?

The housing areas are instanced. So, once a particular neighborhood fills up, it spawns a new instance (they are named the same, just numbered). It's pretty neat. I have a house for my Mini on Brandywine. You can spend a lot of time decorating it. One of my friends was my neighbor too. We planned it in a new neighborhood. You can visit the instances even without having a house in it though.

By the time we have the ability to buy a Kinship house, Sneaky, myself, or Quantus will have enough gold by ourselves to be able to buy it. As for the upkeep on a Deluxe house? It's minuscule once you get to a decent level.

Monster Play does have kinships, but they don't have houses.
What sucks is that if you VIP'd (through cheap-stacking retail boxes) you can't buy the quest packs.
Exactly. Which means I have to level up my alts past this point before my VIP access ends .Better get busy :)

I do some reading on those numbers then :)

Too bad...Would be nice to see some Kinship House raiding.

I'm having the most difficult time deciding what I want my main class to be. The last time I played I was a Burglar and I really enjoyed that. I'm leaning towards either a Burglar, Lore-master or Guardian. Any suggestions?

As a side note I played FFXI for several years and my main jobs were Beastmaster, Dragoon and Paladin.

I hear ya. I started out with a Dwarf Champion and am up to Lvl 25 or so, but then decided to create 3 other alts (with different crafting specialties so I could cover all the crafting skills). After playing the Minstrel I got curious about the other classes so I created 5 more alts so I had one from each class. I've been getting them all leveled up to 6 or 7 so they are out of the starter zone and will then go back to focusing on my main (Champion) and 3 primary alts (Minstrel, Rune-Keeper and Warden).

I've been finding that I think I like the classes where you have to combine your attacks in a particular order more than the Champion's more simplistic attacks, but after switching between 9 different classes over the last couple of days I'm getting confused about how each class is different from the others. But my feeling at this point is that I'm liking the way the some of the more sophisticated classes work...they keep me more involved in the combat. But then agains, just running in with the Champion and attacking like crazy has it's good points too.

It has been an intersting experience going through the start zone so many times in a short period of time. When I created me main back when the F2P started (almost 3 weeks go), it was my first time playing LOTRO so the first time through the first 10 levels seemed to take a long time as I was reading everything and exploring around. But on each successive new toon, it became easier to crank through those starter quests incredibly quickly.
I'm all patched up now and I will be on this afternoon.
I'll probaly be on tonight between 7pm and 10pm PDT, so if you see Darkon online, just ping me and I'll try to add you...and maybe mention CAG so I remember who you are ;-)
Okay will do!

Does anyone happen to know how much it costs to unlock Warden?
You need to buy Mines of Moria to unlock it and other things. Get the retail box for $9.99 and you get an extra month of VIP. Right now Amazon has the Collector's Edition of Mines of Moria for $9.99, and despite showing 2-4 weeks shipping may get it out to you quicker.

Hmmm...maybe the are getting more orders for this item since the price is so good. You might want to check your local GameStop because last time I checked the price on the MoM CE, they also had it for $9.99. Otherwise, Amazon will likely fill your order before too long.

got to 19 and discovered that book 2 continues in an area that you have to pay for so i'm effectively stopped. no interest in the side missions and while stealing things is pretty cool, i'm constantly at full inv and more space costs money as well.

its still a good preview for anyone wanting to get into lotro, but i was underwhelmed apart from a few missions. (the barrows area was the best by far, and the orothornongraphowhatever chapter of volume one was fantastic)

i'll log on at some point and give my accumulated wealth to whoever is on at the time.

I'm at lvl 19 yet and just finish the fell trees quest. I'm no where near the barrows. I made 3 characters - delete'ed 2 and stuck with Megazell - Man - Hunter. I emailed myself some stuff - I use the acc deed features to get TBs faster.

There are enough deeds out there in the starting areas that grant TP that you could easily earn enough points to buy the first pack if you want to continue without ever having to use your own money.

i know i could get tp eventually, but it would be by doing stuff that i don't care about/find boring and i just think there are plenty of other games i could play instead where i don't ever have to play a boring bit/grind to get to the fun stuff and in lotro, to me, even the story missions were boring for the most part.

Just curious, but do you play many MMOs? Most that I've played (which isn't a lot) involve a good amount of grinding in order to level up, so if you know of other MMOs that don't involve grinding or have more interesting story lines, I'd be curious to hear about them.

The F2P model just gives you the option of doing additional grinding in order to get access to the "paid" content without paying $$$ for it. Instead, you pay with your time spent grinding. Personally, I value my time so I'm willing to pay $$$ to get on with the storyand avoid repetitive grinding.

Regardless, I'm glad you tried the game out and it sounds like you've given it a fair chance to convince you to keep playing. For a reasonable price you could continue playing new content if you don't want to grind for free TPs, but it sounds like you aren't enjoying the game enough to do either and there's nothing wrong with that.

Games are supposed to be fun, so if you aren't having enough fun it sounds like it would be time to give another game a shot. And if your backlog is anything like mine, there are plenty to choose from ;)
http://lotro.mmorsel.com/p/tpfinder.html

found this. says over 5k TP per character. so with 1 character you can get both the main dlc's (MoM and other one).

hope thats helpful.
I'm 15 TP away from getting the quest pack. This game is digital crack though.

If we are still updating the OP with names and alts still I have made some changes.

ALTS: Remove - Kaltic Add - Kaligard / Human Warden, Keladrian / Elf Rune-Keeper

And who knows my main might change because I am really liking both the Warden and Rune-Keeper.
I'm 15 TP away from getting the quest pack. This game is digital crack though.
You can get up to Lvl 20 pretty quickly, so I've found it was worthwhile to use my retail codes to get VIP access for a while (so I don't need to buy quest packs) and I've instead been spending my TPs on extra char slots (so I can have one of each class) and shared storage to swap crafting items between them. And my VIP level will get me 500 TP per month anyway, so I'll be able to use thsoe to buy the quest packs if/when I drop back down to Premium (assuming I still need them at that point).

I'm also building up TPs through the various quests w/o really have to make a special effort to get them, but I'm not going to do quests just to get the TPs. However, killing everything you encounter along they way helps to both achive the TP quests and gets you more silver at the same time, so I try not to run away from fighting lower-level stuff that I can kill quickly unless I'm really focused on getting to a quest area.

But I have to say I'm enjoying the game quite a bit, and playing a main with a couple of alts has made things even more interesting for me. The only downside is that it is taking me longer to level up my main this way.

Sounds good. I don't alt though. I just make sure that before I leave a area - I did all I possibly can. Battles, history and quest. I'm lvl 21 now but I am going to just horde my TP just to see how many I can possibly get.

The other thing I wanted to add is that doing deeds unlocks other abilities and stats that you can alter so they worth doing anyway. The story also bleed into each other which I think they did a great job in writing.

I don't normally alt either, but the crafting system almost requires you to do so (or have buddies that will send you the stuff you need). Your primary crafting choice gives you access to 3 crafting skills. One of these can be pursued on your own, one requires resources you can only get from someone else, and one allows you to create crafting resources only others can use, so it really encourages interaction between people that want to level up in all 3 crafting areas. [That may not be exactly correct for all instances, but it seems to be for my main]

I'll probably only have my main + 3 alts maximum, since that's all I really need to cover all of the 10 crafting areas, but I'm stilly trying to choose which classes I want to use for the alts. Then again, I may find it takes too much time to keep them all leveling up and just give up on the alts, But from what I've found so far, things seem to go much faster the second or third time around because you know exactly where to go, what to do, how to get the most done in each area you go to.
