CAG Madden 09 League - LEAGUE CLOSED...I'M DONE

Status
Not open for further replies.
I had another ridiculously tight game with shinryuu/awwjayzin (Raiders), the other being in Azu's league. I won on a field goal in overtime as time expired.

Chargers 13, Raiders 10

Very good opponent.

Yeah, good game. Couldn't stop LT or 3rd downs and I pretty much had no offense except McFadden.

This is me during the whole game: "*sigh*" "wow" "omg" "haha" "crap"

hah

I got a little treat that I am going to offer up here. A while back I won a code for the 360 End War Beta on CAG in a Scorch contest. They have delayed the shiznit out of it and today I got an email stating that when I get my code I will get an additional one for a friend. SO if you are interested in getting in on the beta pm me. I will give it to the person who pms me and has the best record in the league at the time the code finally drops. I will use total points for a tiebreaker.

week 2 game

patriots 7 steelers 3

again another game of turnovers and i just couldnt put the ball in the endzone. nice game jlarlee

-Wanderlaj and Neworlbush25-
I wont be available tonite. I will try to see if I am available sometime between Thursday and Sunday but most likely I will have plenty of time to play during the day on the weekends. If you see me online just shot me a chat invite. Sorry haven't been able to play yet. Between MNF, the debate, and just other things going on haven't had a slot to play these yet.

Week 1 against n8rocker82

Phil- 28
Bills- 3

GG man, hoped you liked all my blitz ;)

I got pretty lucky with the amount of picks I got.

Damn, I got destroyed by SoulReaver. Good game man. You played it super smart. McNabb was unbelievable. Something like 20-22 passing. How can you deal with that? I thought I made decent play calls. I got burned on wideout screens more often than I would have liked, but you did a really good job reading blitzes. I think I gave up less than 40 yards rushing though, so that's a plus.

The pick at the end of the first half killed me too. Game should have been 14-6 there (or maybe even 14-10). After that, I had to pass more, and Edwards overthrew a lot of balls.

The one thing I think would solve the abundance of interceptions in this game is if EA would make it so receivers come back to the ball. The problem is they run their route, and just stand at the end of it waiting for the ball to come to them.

Meanwhile, the DB just steps infront and says "thank you, I'll take that!" I don't even want them to catch it. Just fight for the ball and cause an incompletion, rather than a turnover. Anyway, just not a good day for me. Oh well, hopefully I can rebound in my next game. And just to make it official:

Bills at Eagles: 3 - 28

Yeah you should have kept running it man. Whenever you did you kept getting first downs.

I'm surprised how well I played passing the ball, normally in a game I get a lot of interceptions.

I agree comeback routes have a bad habit of not working. The WR's in this version dont fight for the ball and on deep passes they either let the ball hit them in the back or overrun the play. The worst is throwing it into the flat...I'd say 7/10 times they run out of bounds and loose yards.
Looks like me and Matt Young should have ours in tonight if all goes according to plan. That will be our Week 2 matchup.
I waited because I didn't want to cause trouble, but I feel it is necessary to mention this now. DanteMayCry never showed up for our game. Since then, I have messaged him both on Live and on here. He has been on CAG today, and I have seen him on Live several times playing The Force Unleashed. Yet I have received no response to my messages, and he has not accepted my friend request after I deleted someone from my full list specifically to add him for this game.
Oh yeah I have no clue how it works but how come we aren't doing using the Madden League function in the game?
Because there are no schedules, no stattracking, and its awful.
Because there are no schedules, no stattracking, and its awful.
thanks for fielding that one good buddy, haha ;)

Hey commish would you be interested in posting the next few weeks of schedule up. With a long weekend coming up should be a good opportunity for us to burn through some games
Hey commish would you be interested in posting the next few weeks of schedule up. With a long weekend coming up should be a good opportunity for us to burn through some games
Well, I'd rather not. Unless the majority is opposed to going week by week. Part of my reason for making the schedule contain real life matchups was so we'd be going in line with the real NFL schedule.

After getting our first 2 weeks in, week 3 (which will be up Sunday), will actually coincide with that day's games. There are 4 games on next weeks' schedule that reflect the real NFL schedule. I know it might not matter to some, but I'm a bit of a sim freak.

But I also think that keeping things tight and organized will give everybody a better chance of following along. Everybody knows they have ONE game to play each week. Considering the trouble the other leagues have had, that shouldn't be too much to ask. I hope that makes sense.

Just so my opponent next week is aware, I will be out of town until next Sunday. If we can play on that day (the 18th), that would be awesome. Just shoot me a PM when the schedule goes up and we can work something out.

Recap GIANTS 20 @ Panthers 10

GG Wamderlai

This game was a defensive struggle. Both teams scored TDs of from Turnovers.

Giants win the toss elect to receive. Giants get the ball and begin to show the running game. Jacobs runs a run to the right behind the right guard, right tackle, and a great block by Plaxico for a 60 yard TD scamper in the first minute of the game! Panthers get the ball back and mount a long drive but the Giants hold them down to a field goal.

Giants get the ball back prepared to stuff the ball with the run and Eli throws an INT to the wrong colored jersey that gets returned to the house.

Giants get the ball back and again begin just running down the field. Giants completely avoid the pass to avoid the INT and because it just wasnt working. I could not get a passing rhythm down because I ran 80 percent of the time and I consider myself a passing team.

Giants take it to the 26 yard line and go for the field goal and tie it up 10-10

Carolina gets the ball and almost immediately the great Justin Tuck, played by me, sacks Delhomme and he drops the ball and big Fred Robbins rumbles in for the TD from about the 10 yard line. Giant D begins to dominate the game. At this point I am up 17-10 and I know the last thing I want to do is turn the ball over.

Carolina gets the ball and went for it on 4th down and didn't convert on the fourth down play at about my 34 yard line! I drive the ball and kick a FG making it 20-10.

The rest of the game is spent defending the pass as the Panthers play 3 or 4 wides the rest of the game. At one point Delhome gets sacked by TUCK in the endzone but the refs say he was down at the one so I dont get the safety and Delhome scampers for a 20 yard run on the next play!

Panthers throw another INT to the captain of the defense Pierce an thats pretty much all she wrote. Giants ride the backs of Ward, Jacobs and the defensive unit to victory.

I am not sure if the QB sneak is banned? but i know it cant be stopped and at one point Wanderlai used it to convert a 4th down so if anyone can clear this up please let me know otherwise I add the sneak to my arsenal.

The stats in this game are mind boggling. The Giants passed for 6 yards and had one completion but still won the game because of the beastly running game.

ivan, QB sneaks are fair game as far as I'm concerned. I'm pretty sure I've stuffed one before. It takes some good playcalling and a little bit of luck, but I think it can be done. Go with your goal line D, and some kind of blitz package. The trick then is not to get burned on a toss or a play action. To me, that's part of the chess match of football.

I know a lot of people gripe about guys going for it on 4th down a lot, but I still think it's up to the other person to be able to stop them. Now, I'm not saying on a 4th and long at their own 20 in the first minute of the game. But if a close situation comes up and it's worth the risk, punting shouldn't be a given (hated that about the previous few Maddens). I usually prepare for my opponent to go for it any time they reach their own 45 or beyond. As I said in the other league: if I can't stop my opponent on 4th down, I don't deserve to get the ball back.

I really dont care if people go for it on 4th. I kind of want them to because I like making them pay for giving me great field position.

As for qb sneak, I wasn't sure if that was one of those madden "glitches." Thanks for the info.

haha, I hear ya. And yeah, I haven't heard of it being a glitch. It might be "easier" than it should be (like INT's), but I'm about 75% sure I've stopped one...once, haha :)

Just so everybody is aware,
I'm having a terrible time connecting to games. I'm probably going to need a new router. I've been able to connect with n8 in the past, but I have had troubles with Matt, Wanderlai and today I couldn't connect to ItlStln.
Just throwing it out there, in case I miss a deadline.
Hopefully I'll have a new not horrible router in the next couple weeks.

I couldn't connect to ItlnStln either. Maybe you and I can connect now that I changed settings, though it's weird that you can't even chat.

Yea a person has the right to play their own way. I do out of sportsmanships sake let the person know I'm going for it so they dont have to scramble for a play call real quick

QB sneak, eh, I have a different opinion of it. I've stopped it, but I had to use blitz packages or a FG block play. The problem with that is, it becomes very cheesy if the opponent decides to audible out of it, in which I have to call a timeout Those plays are really the only way to counter a QB sneak. Unless you can get the QB to fumble (which is rare for some reason during the QB sneak), it's a money play against defenses not using a blitz/FG block.

Another reason I dislike the QB sneak is because it looks so unrealistic. QB decides to take his morning powerwalk in the middle of the line of scrimmage -- C'MON. Not only does the QB past whatever line, but he gains more yards than it would in a HB dive. Successs rate of the QB sneak is too high. I personally don't use it but I'd rather see it better if my opponent does it on 4th and goal or 4th and 1 on the opposing team's side.

TERRIFIC GAME with neworlbush!

It was ALMOST as crazy as the real thing. The better team won in real life though :D

I tend to agree. I avoid the play altogether.

I tried the QB sneak with Aaron Rodgers a few times when the game first came out, and I fumbled over 50% of the time. So I don't use it, but for different reasons. I may bust it out on a rare occasion at the goal line, but that's it.

Hey Ivan, just wanted to let you know GG and nice recap. Its tough playing the Giants, Patriots, and Cowboys in this version of Madden. The computer AI is very good for those teams, esp defense and run blocking. Some stupid plays by me that you capitalized on....ex. me trying to get some points at the end of the half, getting sacked with Jake fumbling the ball on the play action, and you running it in. Should have never tried the PA, those never work for me and over half the time I end up sacked. Carolina has a swiss cheese O-line.

Now as far as the QB sneak is concerned, I only use it when it is like 3rd 1 or 4th 1. If I'm up on the scoreboard I tend to not use it at all. With Delhomme it isnt a given yard maker. He tends to either fumble or get knocked out of the game about half the time if I cant slide.

The Giants have crazy AI blocking! No one misses their blocks. You were able to run tosses getting 4-7yds almost every play. If I blitzed everyone was always picked up. Jacobs was a beast! He just bounced of tackles even if I had him for a loss, he'd still break away from gang tackles and get positive yardage. My best run defense play was to try and string your tosses out and get you to go out of bounds.
n8: Might be a good idea to put up a new week each FRIDAY? This allows people to get their games done over the weekend ESPECIALLY this weekend because its Thanksgiving (ok well its Thanksgiving here, no school monday :D)
That's actually not a bad idea. I mainly went for Sunday because that's when the majority of the games are, but having the games up 2 days in advance wouldn't exactly ruin anything. Still gives people the option of waiting until Sunday to play.

GG shinryuu. That game was fucking ugly, but you played far better than me. The Bills fucking suck. It's really pathetic that I was 4-0 with the Rams when Jagged's league closed..and I'm 1-3 with the Broncos in Azu's league..and 0-2 here. If that's not something to make a person want to trade this game in, I don't know what is.

Oh, and just to report it to my fucking self, LOL...13-0, Raiders win. Yes, I've been drinking a little.

Edit: Wow..this game was so bad I forgot I scored! LOL....zzzzzzzzzz 13 - 7

Raiders - 13

Well, the thing is, you kept passing the ball and threw some wild passes in doing so. Sometimes you slid out of the pocket too early when it wasn't collapsing. That game was pretty ugly though. Both of our offenses weren't clicking at all. It looked like you always knew when I was calling a PA (I kept getting sacked), but I barely caught you on that last one to Lelie. Pretty much a snorefest within the first 3 quarters.

Some of your pass plays looked the same too. Parrish running a slant and your backs running flats. So.. that was kinda predictable too, even though I couldn't stop it. :D

EDIT: Haha, I forgot, the total yards from BOTH teams after the 1st quarter was 11. lol

Well, usually I like rolling out with Edwards because sometimes (not today) he's good on the run. Plus, it gives you different looks. And mainly, with my shitty offensive line, most of the time I'm better off if I start by running away, lol. Parrish running some kind of slant pattern is all I had, haha.

The first 2 minutes of the game spelled doom for me though. Lynch gets hurt. And then the refs make TWO bad fumble calls that I have to force them to correct. I swear, that's the most realistic I've ever seen Madden be! *ba dum ching!*

Honestly, I think this game boiled down to your defensive backs being better than mine, and Russell making the big plays when you needed them. You made the right moves in a sloppy game. Well played.
EDIT: Haha, I forgot, the total yards from BOTH teams after the 1st quarter was 11. lol
This just made me burst into laughter! It's the kind of thing that makes you think "how the fuck is that even possible???" Two teams, going nowhere!

All right, on the suggestion of Azumangaman, I've decided to shift schedules to a Friday-Friday rotation. That way, people can kick off their weekend by playing some football, before watching the game on Sunday.

So, week 3 is now up, but the deadline for it will still be 10/18 at 11:59 pm est. I'll gradually shift the deadlines as we have less overlap from the previous week. Check the OP to find out who you play! Good luck to all...especially to me and my 0-2 Bills :bomb:

Still haven't heard from DanteMayCry. As I said before, he accepted my friend request after I posted in this thread about him not responding to messages on CAG and Live despite being on both. But I never saw him on, and he still has yet to respond to set up a time. Yesterday, I removed him from my list to re-add the friend who I deleted in order to add him (list is full).

He has been on CAG but has not posted here since the night he and I were scheduled to play (Tuesday). No messages or anything to try to reschedule, even though he's signed on to CAG every day.

jlarlee, if you're reading this, I just PM'ed you about week 3.

I sent out a 24 hour warning message to the 4 players who've yet to play their week one game. I'm a little bit pissed off considering some people practically begged to be in this league, and now they're nowhere to be found. Really defeats the whole purpose of the league, and makes it no different than Jagged's or Azu's. PLAY YOUR GAMES PEOPLE!!!

Sorry commish but me and newolbush haven't been able to sync up. Hopefully he will be around tomorow so we can get our game in.

Haha, blame Ed Hochuli. Not only that, but they give like the worse possible camera view to review it. lol

Yay Week 3!
Not yay because I'm playing vs. Itl. Nothing against him personally, but I couldn't connect with him earlier today.
I'm sure by the time that game is needed I'll have a situation worked out. Could run me at least $100 though :cold:

PM sent to SoulReaver for Week 3. Like I said earlier, I'm going to be out of town until next Saturday (only vacation of the year!), so it's highly unlikely that I will be able to play until next Sunday.

Yeah n8, maybe I made a mistake with Dante?
UNLESS he's away or something and somebody else is using his CAG and XBL account, which I kind of doubt. He's online all the time. Maybe a response from him to see whats up?

Yeah...kinda getting that feeling. I sent him the 24 Hour Warning PM that went out to 3 others, and then I sent him a personal PM to ask what's up. He was one of the first people to post in this thread, and was riding me about getting things started. Doesn't really bode well for your league either though. He's my week 6 opponent...

I wish I had more power on this site. I'd IP ban people for this kind of shit. Or better yet...

may I suggest that the schedule still run from Sunday to Sunday but we are given sneak peak at the schedule on Friday that way we have two weekends to play the game without chNging the schedule
may I suggest that the schedule still run from Sunday to Sunday but we are given sneak peak at the schedule on Friday that way we have two weekends to play the game without chNging the schedule
Yeah, I thought about that, but I wasn't sure how I felt about the overlap it would cause. I guess it's not a bad idea. I just don't want people who haven't played their game in the current week looking ahead and saying "oh, I'll work on that". People can be A.D.D. like that sometimes, haha.

I'm just really frustrated with the week one games not getting played. I don't want to "sim" the games, but if I don't, it's just going to be Jagged's league all over again. I just wanted to give people a simple structure. One game, with a week to get it played. That shouldn't be too much to ask. But sadly, people never cease to amaze me.

Dante is my week three opponent as well. I'll wait to setup a time with him until things get resolved on here. Simming games is going to really suck, especially week 3 for me. Ravens at Colts, yeah that's a loss by Madden Simming.:) Oh well, just let me know what needs to be done or whatever.

It won't be real simming. I just used that as a quicker way of saying "I will choose a winner based on effort, communication, etc. And if all things are equal, I'll flip a coin." That's why I put quotation marks around it, haha ;)
