Deadofnight, three votes for the Final Fantasy XV!

By putting my RE7 Madhouse run on hold I guess I meant beat it as quickly as possible so it won't keep me from FFXV or Overwatch events. And now I read some dlc for RE7 is coming out today.

Two more loot boxes, and I got Mercy's epic event skin. It kind of sucks these two events and RE7 all started on the same day.

You sure? I think FFXV is trailing by only 1 point.

Edit:

FFXV is at 10 points, Ni no Kuni at 11.
Oh didn't realize it was that close. Wishful thinking? I. Don't want to play ffxv until they patch in those extra characters and cutscenes they discusses (and I have to coordinate with the GF since she likes to watch and try it too)

Tallies so far:

February
Ni No Kuni 11
SAO Re 2
Valkyrie Drive 2
Final Fantasy XV 10
Pokemon 3
Tales of Berseria 2

I might make this both FFXV and Ni No Kuni month, because they both reached 10 votes. What do you guys think?

Let's see where the votes go? I think some folks might have a hard time deciding between both?
I might make it both games, and use a similar model like this from now on. Looking at the votes, most people either spent their 3 votes on Ni No Kuni, or FF15, so there isn't much overlap. It also gives people who don't have one game to play the other, and it's also convienient that it's on separate consoles, since I know not everyone has a PS4/X1 yet. I'll give one more night to see if anyone has any major objections, but it makes a lot of sense in my opinion.

Started Ni No Kuni. You can tell 100% Studio Ghibli was involved. Looks like ponyo. Long intro though. 45 mins to first battle.

Lol, nice!

Sorry guys, forgot to update the OP and title, but yes, it is both FF15 and Ni No Kuni double month. I'll update it later today.

I already have quite a few hours in Ni No Kuni, like 50, but never finished it. I get a little too much into catching and spend more time than I should on it.

I finally played the Final Fantasy XV event. It's nice, but nothing amazing. The only quests I have left are finding a few photo ops. I ran around for an hour trying to find the last baby chocobo.

I'll probably get back to the main game after the Overwatch event ends.

I played through Resident Evil 7's Nightmare and Bedroom dlc. I haven't tried Ethan Must Die yet.

Finally beat Watch Dogs 2, so I'll continue FF XV now before I try and platinum it, although it does seem like an easy plat.

I updated the OP guys, but the month has been active already. Get your backlog gaming going!

Also, I made a thread for CAG Twitch Streamers, so come check it out if you plan on streaming. I noticed that when I stream, I tend to find it easier to go through my backlog, especially if the game was getting a little tiring and repetitive. For example, streaming the Chalice Dungeons of Bloodborne really helped me regain interest in it to plat it. So if you are starting to get bored with a backlog game, why not try streaming it? Pretty much just follow the layout in that post, and post when you start a session.

And its only $5 on PSN right now.

I may use the free month of PS Now to play since I let my friend borrow my pS3

Hello all!  New to this thread.

Finished watching Kingsglaive last night.  I thought it was good for what it's supposed to be so I was super excited to start FFXV which I did.  So far the the combat is not as complex as I assumed it would be.  I know I have to do the tutorial a few more times and it may take some time before I can master.  Definitely nothing that would be off putting.

With that being said, I didn't have a chance to really get into it as much as I would like - literally only went through tutorial and got as far as the gas station.  Hope I can get some time this evening to play.

Hello, figured I'd join this thread as well since I spend most of my time at the Japanese Niche Games. I need to branch out and since I've dubbed 2017 as my "Year of the Backlog."

Started 2017 by completing Final Fantasy XV and just recently beat Dragon Quest IV. Not only was it my first Dragon Quest game to finish, but it was my first DS game to finish.

I'm currently on the last chapter of Trails in the Sky FC. So 2017 is starting out well...

Next on the list: SAO: Lost Song, Corpse Party: Blood Drive, and Gravity Rush. Dragon Quest V will follow IV, and Trails in the Sky SC will follow FC.

I'm truly on a mission to put a huge dent into my backlog.

I didn't play any Final Fantasy this week. I beat the Ethan Must Die dlc in Resident Evil 7, and I played some more Overwatch.

And I downloaded the free-to-play version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 Venus to my Playstation TV. I had my cronusmax play through a dozen vacations to unlock a Vita specific swimsuit, linked my Vita and PS4 saves, and now that swimsuit is available in my PS4 version of the game.

The thing is I can only make a link on my HK PSN account, and I have been playing DOAX3 on my US account. So if I want to see the Vita swimsuit I have to play on my HK account. To see everything else I have play on my US account.

To get the Vita swimsuit in my US account I would have to buy a physical copy of the Vita game. That would essentially be a dlc outfit that costs around $50, so no.

I have the ps4 Dlc would not even let me redeem on my us account :(

Yeah, the dlc codes are tied to a specific region, but you can still use that dlc in your US profile. Make a PSN account for whatever region your dlc code is good for, redeem it, and set your PS4 as that account's main console. The dlc swimsuit will then show up in any PSN profile that plays the game on that console.

That's how I got Marie Rose's devil swimsuit dlc into my US profile. And that's how you get all the dlc catalogs to work in US profiles.

nearing the end of Ni No Kuni, really a great game. Harry Potter Pokemon a bit ;)

It's certainly slow at the beginning, long intro, limited battle.. but it opens up quite a bit as you keep going. The battle variety is great now. I strongly recommend this one! I'll probably finish it this weekend, and spend the rest of the month trying to plat it.

Finally finished Zelda Twilight Princess HD with 100% as well as opening up my Wolf Link amiibo which felt like a sin as I haven't opened up any of my amiibos (they all sit in bags of Best Buy in my closet). Tho I did take the advice this grill gave so I can still keep the box intact.

Now I wont feel bad anymore of turning down BlackRockWaifu all the time he asked to play together. I know you don't follow Nintendo anymore BlackRockWaifu but this will give you a good idea why I had to get this game completed before Zelda Breath of the Wild coming out in March.

I played Final Fantasy XV for a bit, but I mostly played the new Resident Evil 7 dlc that came out this week. The dlc has been fun, but a bit short. I'm glad I bought the digital deluxe edition during a Spend $100 Get $15 Back promo to basically make the season pass half price. Though I'll probably play Nightmare and Jack's Birthday more in the future. I really liked playing through 21 in the Survival games, but I already unlocked everything in it.

And for an hour I played the first Devil May Cry from the Devil May Cry HD Collection. I wanted to see if I'd be interested enough in the series to buy the PS4 DMC4 that is on sale this weekend. It was pretty awesome. It sold me on DMC4.

It makes me wonder how many gems are just sitting in my backlog.

Finish ni no kuni.. And I was a bit miffed with the shortness of the ending. It seems a different ending was being lined up, then the plot advanced. That ending was better... I did some research to find out that was the original ending the last 10% of the ps3 game was added. It was originally a ds game little did I know. Ha! Still overall a fantastic game! Working on that platinum.

Honestly was about to quit FF XV.  At first it was SOOOO boring to me - I fell asleep playing this game a couple of times but I'm glad I pushed on.  The wait mode makes a huge difference in some battles.  I just got passed The Power of Kings from Chapter 2.  All of my characters are at level 10 and I have yet to make any upgrades in the Ascension grid.

I... totally haven't started. Guess it depends on what March is before I start it. Was meaning to, then they kept saying free DLC coming, so I kept putting it off. That, and not having really liked an FF game since 10 made me drag my feet.

Yeah that's why I'm not touching ffxv for a while sad to say. After they add more playable characters and add in story cuts ends like they said then I'll pick it up.

But I'm have the ni no kuni platinum by tommorow most likely, easy to clean up if you already did all the side quests along the way.

So is there a new game next month or is it being extended? Might just be breath of the wild month for me anyways :)

Ok this makes sense. Multiple endings dlc and possibly more booster pack dlc is a good reason to wait - especially since I have the season pass.

Oh well, back into the backlog it goes. Now what to play next....

I had the game beaten in less than 8. Another two hours to clean up the special ending and last area. I'll probably go back and play circle of the moon :)

Starting playing a lot of FFXV lately, after not playing it for a good 3 months. Had 8 hours into the game and was tempted to restart, but I guess I like where it's going now.

A few points I wanted to share, this is a very innovative game with a lot of little gimmicks that work out. The game also seems to be very western-influenced, and reminds me a lot of Witcher 3 and GTA V. The music I feel isn't as good as FFXIII, but that soundtrack is in there, so it makes up for it. And some of the worst side quests in videogame history are present, the frog ones were the reason I quit playing before. Also, and I cannot stress this enough, the inspect function AND the jump function should not be mapped to the SAME BUTTON. It it so damn annoying to try and pick something up, only to keep jumping up away from it.

As to a few people who inquired, I really think this game should be played now or as soon as possible. I mean if you are waiting for a definitive edition, eventually pass the updates and DLC, there's going to be a GOTY version, and then a PC version, and you'll end up waiting forever. If anything, it'll turn into the Witcher 3, where there was an enhanced edition, but the updates weren't astronomical, I still enjoyed the original game. I actually think I should've played FFXV at launch, waiting till now I feel is a bit late.

The main reason for playing it now is because it feels so fresh. It's only a matter of time until other games adapt the little quirks this game has going for it. Tallying EXP, the Regalia, the teamwork system, the photo system, etc. are going to be copied by other games and it wouldn't feel so special seeing it in FFXV for the first time. Also, FFXV is a great game, at least from what I played. But it's going to be made somewhat obsolete fast, the graphics are good but not amazing, the combat gets dull, and the story isn't all that intriguing. In a year or so, many games with much better graphics, and what does FFXV does but better, will fill the market, and playing FFXV will feel like a chore and the graphics will feel outdated. It's similar to when I played GTA 4 many years after it came out, the graphics were bad and controls were janky. But the game was revolutionary and highly praised when it first came out. Same for Metal Gear Solid 4. What I'm trying to say now is play it before it turns old and bad compared to newer games. A movie equivalent I'd like to use is Pulp Fiction. Fantastic and innovative movie when it first came out, did stuff that was surprising to the cinema audience then. Now, it feels outdated as so many movies have used those ideas already.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to give an opposing argument to the waiting one. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not trying to put down the other argument, there are more and better reasons for waiting to play the game. But in case you didn't have another game to play and wanted it out of the backlog.

Also, about next month, with the Switch releasing, and a few high profile games (Horizon, Nier, Zelda, etc.), it's really up to you guys but I feel like it might be a desolate month if we pick a game no one ends up playing. The games from last month (Ni no Kuni and FFXV) will be active anyway, but this month was shorter and we started later, and those two are very long games to beat.

I'm proposing that we keep Ni no Kuni and FFXV this month, and we add an additional "talk about what games you played if you didn't play a niche game" part to it like we did in January. That way we still get some discussion while focusing on the main two games. The reason I don't make this a regular thing is because we already have a Backlog Support group thread, and I know Corgstradamus and the other guys work really hard on maintaining it. The last thing I want is to hurt their own progress.

I finished Final Fantasy XV. The majority of the game I played was great. Some of the chapters near the end; not so much. Still, I liked the game enough that I want to go back and do everything I left incomplete.

But I won't do that for a while. The way I started playing Final Fantasy XV because I wanted to play a different kind of game leading up to Resident Evil VII I want to play a different kind of game leading up to Persona 5. I'm thinking Doom.

And I did some Resident Evil VII trophy clean up. I just need two more to get the platinum. I've been playing without a guide, but I'm going to have to look at one now because I have no idea what the last two hidden trophies could be.

Btw guys, this month is pretty much play anything you want (niche or what not) since there are so many big releases coming out, Switch, Zelda, Horizon, Nier, etc.

Played a lot more of FFXV and have to say I really love this game. Forget everything bad I said about it, well except for the side quests, those are horribly designed, it should've been more like Witcher 3 or Dragon Age there.

I really have to commend the little gimmicks that they do for the game, such as the Prompto photos. I thought that was a pointless addition at first, but it actually adds so much to the game. There are tiny little details you miss about the story if not for the photos, which serve as a recap of what you've played. It's a genius move, kind of like having additional story elements and side-chapters, without having them being played out on screen. Just looking at a picture of them by a statue, or interacting with an NPC, and you can already tell the story behind the photo. It's a really awesome addition and more games should adopt it. Possibly my favorite thing about the game so far and the most impressive yet subtle element behind it.

I'm gonna go start Zelda in just a bit since my Pro Controller finally arrived in the mail. I know you hate when I talk about Nintendo but...

I still love you and please don't get mad.

I have been playing the Witcher 3 so I'll continue that. Then I'll be playing Mass Effect when it comes out.

Been Yakuza 0 for a while for me....i'm doing all the side stories which is very time consuming but some are pretty good. I did get Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns as well to be my side game.

Oh I was wrong, I was so wrong... FFXV is a terrible game, don't play it. I don't know how they could've screwed up the second half of the game so bad, they must've outsourced it, or rushed to make it, or it was a big joke. Okay, in all seriousness, it's not a completely terrible game, just stop playing after chapter 5 and it's amazing. In fact, the game should've ended on chapter 5, that was a good point to stop.

What is it with modern Japanese games and their inability to end a game well? Like Metal Gear Solid V, the true ending of the game for me was mission 45, the game doesn't exist after that. Evangelion also ended on episode 3, nothing else exists.

Chapter 13... is as bad as everyone says it is and worse. Why does the game try to be something it's not? Like the very last chapters of the game, and it suddenly turns into a terrible horror/stealth game, filled with jump scares. That's like playing GTA V, and near the end of the game, it suddenly turns into Rogue Warrior. Like they had the winning formula down, and then decided to throw it all away. It's not like the rest of the game is bad too, just that very specific chapter... you know it's bad when the developers have to apologize and promise to fix it...

And not even trying to troll here, I liked FFXIII more, well I always loved the 13 trilogy, but the way the story unraveled and ended was way better than FFXV. In fact, I've had to sit through years of people hating on FFXIII and now it's finally time for some payback!

Oh, and the story is crazy spoilerish, so in case you do want to play it one day, it's best to avoid any potential spoilers if you haven't been exposed already. I'm surprised how I managed to beat the game seeing so much for the first time, only thing I knew beforehand was how horrible chapter 13 is. If anything I wrote about seems like a spoiler, please tell me and I'll use a spoiler tag, I didn't include any story elements, only details on the gameplay and my personal opinion, so I hope that doesn't spoil anything. At least not story wise.

Sorry for the rant, I might've overreacted, but wow, the game just went downhill. Also, if you do ever play the game, a huge piece of advice I can give you is take and save lots of pictures. Good ones too. You'll understand why.

Updating the first post now, did anyone beat either Ni No Kuni or FFXV, besides me, Sirpikaz, and deadofnight?

Also, anyone playing anything in particular? I was going to go back to clean up the FFXV trophies, but couldn't find myself to do it. Horizon Zero Dawn is just too good. I won't even get started on Nier yet just so I can keep playing Horizon.

Plus, I kind of expect everyone next month to be focused on Persona 5. It'll probably be the GOTM if we put it to a vote.

Is anyone playing Nier? I think I might put it as an impromptu GOTM for March, just before P5 if enough people on this thread are playing it. Might even get me to start as well.

Did the same thing. Didn't start Nier because of Horizon: Zero Dawn. But I'm done with that now, so I'm starting Nier either today or tomorrow. I don't know why I cleared everything on the H:ZD map and every quest before I did like a level 14 story quest.

The missus started Zelda and made me do some ball maze puzzle. I'm surprised turning the maze upside down worked.

Played some FFXV on remote play, it feels way better and more conformable than sitting in front of a TV with a DS4. Being that most of the game takes only one button and an analog stick, it's perfect for the Vita and lying on your back while playing. The only problem is that I might fall asleep while playing. I might try to get the platinum like this.

I guess we can start the voting/suggestions on the next month.

My votes are Persona 5 and Nier: Automata. (Voting system is the same as before, so 2 games = 2 votes each, 1 game = 3 votes, 3 games = 1 vote each)
