1000 times this! We'll see how the netcode is on NeoGeo Battle Coliseum when it's released on XBLA, just to get an indication of what KoFXIII's netcode might be like. Let's find out whether or not they've learned from their mistakes.
I'm going to buy it if the online is decent. Even though I have it on ps2. I read today it is coming out the 9th.
First and foremost, its an art in japan. then mexico might be a 2nd or 3rd.
What's that? That's Japans nuts in yo mouth. China is better then Japan at KOF and Mexicans still hang tough with China.
Japans game is 2k2 and the UM edition of it. I'd say XI as well
China loves 98 and 98 UM along with 97 and 2k2
Mexico is good at 98, 2k2, 96 for some odd reason and XI
Japan gets the exposure, but China and Mexico have far more KOF players. KOF is a damn religion in South America and most of China.
I thought Japan had better KoF players overall. But China has XiaoHai aka Child, who is arguabley the best KoF '98 player ever.
Dude. You're out of date Bro. Bata went to a tournament in Mexico and he specializes in 98, 2k2 98 UM and 2k2 UM and he got beat quickly. Surprised him since no Japanese has ever went to Mexico to play in a tournament and the level of skill was more of a wakeup call.
Keep in mind that each country has a unique style to their fighting and no exposure to those other fighting styles is a huge eye opener.
Japan has a lot of good KOFers, but they're mostly exposed to other Asian styles. Mainly Korea and Hong Kong.
But it's interesting. Japan did have the best players in the past, but it's been shifting quite a bit in recent times.

"FAIL" being the optimum word here lol
I'm still sucking at Rufus's lk-> hp online. for some reason I went back to dudley for a bit yesterday. from practicing that nay impossible link with rufus, it made cr.lp -> s.hk a breeze for me with dudley. god that combo is so amazing
I just found out that doing a 720 motion will give you any double quarter circle (forward or backward supers). e.g. dhalsim flame into super, viper knuckle into super, sakura hadouken into super.
but I would argue that learning the proper input is faster and would do you better service, i.e. learning the proper input for Guiles/Dee Jays ultra :/
For viper, some people actually use 360 to super jump cancel into ultra. But that's doing 360 in the correct direction. I'm pretty sure doing a 720 for a hcb to 2x qcf is much faster than doing the true motion. For dhalsim, using the 720 motion, I've canceled light punch flame into super BEFORE the flame comes out. Meaning, you see startup frames for flame but flame doesn't come out and it cancels into super. Consistently.
I'm doing 720's in the WRONG direction and it gives me supers. SF4 shortcuts at it's best.
flame can already be shortened into 4 directions instead of 5, but you're saying 16 directions is less than 10? (4 for flame, 6 for super, which can actually be shortened to 5, for a grand total of 9)
I honestly use traditional full inputs except for certain moves (i.e. Makoto's kara kara, or Guile's sb to super). When cancelling moves, it doesn't really matter how fast you go. There's a window, if you go too fast or too slow, it won't cancel. And HCB to 2x QCF is easy. You can buffer the super input well before the punch flame ends.
And flame can be shortened to 3 directions. You just have to hit forward, down (any downward input actually), and back.
That's true for canceling moves, sure, but if you are using inputs that require more notations than what is required, it does slow down the input which translates to slower execution. If you're trying to Ultra through a fireball, the longer it takes for you to execute gives your opponent more frames to recover from the animation and subsequently block the ultra....which is very bad.
I have only been talking about canceling moves that require a change of direction (qcf to 2x qcb or qcb to 2x qcf).
kurrptsenate, you've brought up fewer inputs = faster execution is definitely what you want when you're doing something on reaction, but if you're canceling moves, what you want is ease and consistency in execution, which lowers error.
option, there's the srk shortcut motion that goes from crouching to srk, meaning you never stand up. maybe you don't play srk characters or already know but Makoto uses the anti air as a srk motion. hit 323 and bam, srk from crouch position. maybe you already know.
also, there's the srk on crossup. when blocking standing or crouching(i think), right as your opponent crosses your char's midpoint in the air, do qcf in the direction of your srk. i.e. block with 4, get crossed up, hit 214
I thought I would post here as a starting point. I am considering picking up one of the tournament sticks and SSFIV from GS.com, but wanted to ask a few questions first. I have played fighting games before, but extremely casually. I wouldn't mind really playing a fighting game for the first time, spend a few hours a week and practice with a few different characters with the hope of getting to a point where maybe I could last 5 seconds against an established player.
Does this game have a healthy online presence? Is it a good starting point for a player of my inexperience? Or would it just be a complete waste of money/time for me, considering how far behind the curve I am? I read some of these recent posts in this thread, for example, and I have no idea what the hell you guys are talking about.
I am really a cheapass, so I am a bit nervous ordering a nice stick, yet I have played a fighter with just a normal gamepad and the experience leaves something to be desired. So if I go for it, then I want to go for it. Any thoughts?
The stick is probably one of the best/favorite purchases I've had in the past year. Its extremely durable and you'll be glad once you have it.
As far as SFIV is considered, its really the best fighter out right now and nothing really compares. The online aspect of it is magnificent. You can always find a match no matter what time of day.
Thats' some of the newer combo focused gameplay. if you got the time watch the ENTIRE thing it shows Neomaxes, new characters, new combos and new stages. Stuff you might be interested in.
I definitely enjoyed that.. I'm glad that SNK decided to hand draw the characters, I wish that SSFIV was hand drawn and played like that.
Someone used Ken. They had 5000 BP but they ing sucked ass just throwing hadoukens and jumping back and doing a flowchart. Amazing they can still get this high with bullshit. I actually turned on the mic to sing to them. It threw off their skill LOL
HOMIES OVER SHOTOS
HOMIES OVER SHOTOS

Cause Shotos mean trouble
All they have is Beef
cause you playin with dat scrub
and they got no skill
they be playin like bums
playing with that lag
you tried to do your ultra
but got stuffed by the lag.
GGs to j-cart and option. I couldn't tech for balls at all. I feel like DJ Mbenga off the bench.
Paco, make an album. I'll buy it and bump that shit in my car like a G.
edit- GGs to anathema and bullish also. Viper U2 is the shit. Not a whole lot of damage, but it can get the job done. Felt so satisfying/orgasmic, everytime I landed it. U1 wasn't used at all (you need a protractor to get the right angle/width/length/pythagorean theorem to land it), so I switched to U2 for the electric master J. And... Capcom needs to change sim's U2 hitbox. They need to make it so it reaches full-screen in all directions, where you can't escape it. Cheap and easier to land. He'll be S++++++ tier.
Awaits for the upcoming patch, make it happen Capcom

Like with everything, it takes practice and time to get good at it. If you really see yourself playing SSFIV more seriously, I would say go for it. But if you see this as a sort of a fling, it probably wouldn't be a good idea to invest in a stick. If possible, see if you can try out a friend's stick.
Personally, I got a TE and thought it was a great investment. THen again, I'm a bit of a fighting game fanatic. I do indeed play SSFIV regularly online.
I already assumed all of that when I learned there was plinking. What's actually more helpful is that after dashing in for crouching normals(i.e. chars like chun, bison), you should combine it with lp+lk in case your opponent reacts fast enough and throws you for a tech.
Teching a throw is 13 frames. It's more of a timing issue if you miss it. Plinking the throw would be useful though for someone like Blanka, who does empty blanka ball to throw. But really, if you miss a few frames, it doesn't really hurt since people can at most react to within 22 ish frames.
The first double plink he shows has the same effect as a normal plink. The "true double plink" is basically two plinks after the other. If you miss HP you get MP instead. Honestly, it's easier to learn the timing and plink than using this technique.

It seems that no matter when I do it
online
, it just comes out when it feels like it, no matter how I time it. Better off mashing the er, but I don't like to do that ... usually.
I need some serious help with SSFIV... I'm just not good with the game, its so sad. i need a training guide or something... give me some pointers. i'm using ryu, chun li, ken; I'm tired of getting my ass kicked.

yup it is official I completely suck now at street fighter. lol I use to be good also smh smh smh. I just wish I really had the time to play more though. plus learning stick is making it that much harder. oh well I accept my casual player fate now.
Hey Thom, try not to jump. Seriously, if you stop jumping, you'll figure out other ways to get in and out. Thus improving the rest of your game. You'll learn one way of the other way how to anti air, poke, block, etc.
Also, try to use nothing but normals. If you do this, the more you'll understand your character's normal moves.
Is the regular street fighter 4 fight stick any good? I see its 50 bucks at gaystop and i have a 20 dollar coupon code there so i was hoping for some feedback on it.
But if you want to get off the general idiocy and give Thomas more to think about, how about stepping outside of your comfort zone and choosing someone that is not standard? It gives you an alternate viewpoint to fighting and may actually teach you how to fight in their face or more close. It's that so many people get stuck in the Shoto comfort zone that they never actually really bother to learn other styles and get a real feel of the other characters or the momentum of the game.
the actual disc part still looks absolutely mint but the inner ring where you would put it in the case somehow has three cracks. The game loads and will let me do arcade mode or training, but as soon as I try to connect online to play it says I was disconnected from PSN and returns me to the title menu even though I'm logged into PSN.
Friggin sucks balls I have to get a new fukking game now.
the only thing i can think of is buying another game, getting the disc replacement plan thingy for like 3-5 bucks, waiting a week or two, then getting another disc with the fudged up disc, netting me 2 working games again
the question is what to do with the extra copy lol
Oh, I forgot to mention the reasoning behind discs cracking inside a player. It cracks because there's minor cracks/weak spots already on middle/inside. So the more you play it, the bigger the crack gets from spinning inside the player. That's why it's good to check up on your discs once in a long while before playing. Oh and to check them out of a new box, or upon possession of a newly acquainted disc.
note: not saying it's your fault but shit happens like esper's random ultras
note: not saying it's your fault but shit happens like esper's random ultras
Why do you have to bring up an analogy like that anyways? I feel a little bit offended by that comment. Wow, you actually took a stab at me. Oh well, here goes.
You were in the process of jumping with sim; what am I supposed to do in that situation? not use viper's u2? It's not my fault you were wide open. Also, you weren't blocking most ex seismos I dish out = thus, automatic ultra II to the face.
Random desperate ultras? Yeah, I admit it. I do it sometimes, if my opponent is caught in the process of pressing a button or doing a special. You do more random ultras (vanilla and currently ssfiv) than Jenna Jameson's 52 men gangbang orgy. Most of your random ultras catch me off guard as well. I ain't godlike.
What about your constant mashing with srk characters. Like all the other butter makers I've played online, you churn the most with your t.hawk. In the replays (3 days ago) I've watched, what was up with your sakura against my ibuki? Half-screen away, you went berserk with unsafe ex shouoken's. Doing ex shouoken from the 2p side, I jumped over to avoid it. Then, as soon as I landed on the right, guess what.... ANOTHER ex shouoken from you coming from the 1p side. So, I jumped back to the 1p side. I was like "wtf man, really?"You must be trolling me and whatnot. Hit confirm that shit before you use that special. If you decide to play me again, I'll make sure to add in a side of mashed potatoes too. Cause everyone loves mashed potatoes online.
Like you said before in the psn chat, "shit is pro" right? So, it's not cool when I "random" you out with an ultra, but it's cool when you do it? I've never complained about your mashing or random ultras directly. Well, now I am.
And I hope you're not offended. Just trying to point it out.
I feel like I'm in an episode of General Hospital in this thread. Drama for ya mama.
