CAG PS3 Fighting Game Matchmaking Thread - Injustice out NAO!
Haha I kid. Well anyways, I'm supposedly getting the game today, I'd be down to mash buttans and check out the netcode if anyone else is down. Beware, I haven't really played Soul Calibur since 2. And the 3rd dimension is not my forte.

edit: I'm thinking of holding a mini tournament for Soul Calibur 5. I'll throw in a digital download code of Duke Nukem Forever (thanks Amazon PCDD). I'll try to work it out in the next day. Post if anyone is interested.

edit2: Also for Paco, hopefully it's a step in the right direction. http://shoryuken.com/2012/01/31/kof...-on-bug-fixes-online-stability/#disqus_thread
Cross-posted about the possible SCV tourney in the GGT.

EDIT: And now the FGT.

Can I include a starhawk beta code into the prize pool as well? I have another one laying around that needs to be used. Are you going to stream this mini-tourny option? I really want to check out scv's netcode for the ps3.

I'm glad they addressed this and it was really the only thing that annoyed me about kofxiii

  1. Adjusted stability of online connections.

I assume that means no more random drops at odd times.

That's the only thing at annoys me about kofxiii. Me and Paco are the only ones that care about kofxiii in this thread.

My internet isn't complete ass today. If I bought Soul Calibur 5 it would have been. =P

I prolly don't have the resources atm to stream. But i'll record if anyone is interested.

I was watching some streams today (i.e. Floe) and the lag didn't look too bad. People say it's ok (at least better than Tekken).

So, I know it's tradition to nerf Xianghua every game, but Leixia is like the next generation of nerf. 5-6 of my go-to moves are either completely gone or have new inputs which make them less useful. They did undo a few nerfs from SC3/4 (real launcher again? thx), but her moveset in general feels pretty stripped down.

She's still pretty effective though, which I guess is saying something. Just need to adjust!

Speaking of adjusting, the guard impact change is unequivocally awful.

Seem's some some characters got nerfed to hell, and others got nerfed to spam-er-dom. (Namely Mitsu and Ivy).

They still have good movesets/strategy, but are so insanely easy to spam now. Practically all i ran into in ranked last night (And Astaroths and Raphaels)

I ran into a guy that t-bagged me in KOF. That's the first time I've ever seen it in that game. He didn't do it once he did it after every move he hit.T-bagging in a fighter just seems even dumber than t-bagging in fps. Most of my friends that play fighters t-bag me afterwards since they know I hate it.

Played a different guy and played 15 matches. That's the most I've played KOF in one session with someone.

All this talk about SC5 makes me want it, but I remember paying 40 for SC4 which didn't seem worth it.

I'll get SC5 eventually.

From my impressions, SC5 plays much like SC2 to me. It does kinda seem like SC4.5. But people are saying the netcode is good, though I haven't tried it yet.

It also seems like they streamlined much of every character movesets. There doesn't seem to be as many moves per character. Or maybe I have a bad memory.

With the inclusion of things like Just Guard (sorta like Parry or Just Defend), the system seems very solid. The thing that most reviewers docked it down for was the single player, which apparently wasn't as great as most people wanted.

But across the board, it seems like the actual SC5 community is loving this iteration. Whereas people who play SC5 casually (mash butans), can't tell it apart from SC4.

I'll have to play with the game more, haven't had as much time. I post more of my impressions as I go.

As for the Guard Impact change. Many are claiming that GI is centered around casual play, where the Just Guard seems much more centered around those players who know what they're doing. Just Guard is better in everyway compared to Guard Impact. The only disadvantage is that Just Guard is harder to perform than Guard Impact.

Single player in fighters can blow me.
Single player in fighters can blow me.
If someone is playing fighters for the story or single player in general there's a problem.

If your not playing them online you should at least be playing them with friends.

A fighter to me is extremely boring playing by yourself.

That's the main reason I haven't bought Tekken Hybird. The lack of adding online play makes me barely interested in getting it.

Well, yesterday I played through the story mode...

It was HORRIBLE. It forced me to play as Patroklos, Pyrrha, and ZWEI. Patroklos is the biggest baby I have ever seen. The plot is downright dumb. Every character is just annoying as fuck.

Single player mode is an important part of any fighting game I think. That's what made the older Soul Calibur games fun, was because of the modes like Conquest or Mission. Now it's simply Legendary Souls (online simulation), Story, and Arcade mode. The only solid thing in regards to offline is the training mode. This game is definitely not for the "casual get together with the bros and have a good time" type of person. That's why it is getting average scores from reviews and the competitive community, despite that, is liking the gameplay aspects.
Not digging the story at ALL. Had to switch to Japanese voices just so I didn't have to hear Patroklos/Pyrrha whine the entire time.
I still find it odd people play any of these games in english... always makes my ears bleed.

Added myself to list for SCV

Im digging SC5 way more then i imagined. Picking it up on PS3 very soon, just waiting for a craigslist crackhead to post it for 30ish and im in.
I still find it odd people play any of these games in english... always makes my ears bleed.

Added myself to list for SCV
Soul Calibur usually has some decent VA's, frankly I wish they let you set individual chars voices ala SFIV and MvC3. That aside the JP voices are infinitely better. And story mode, what a waste of time...............the game feels as rushed if not more rushed than MvC3 did. At least I have my kilik back, that monkey kid was pissing me off.

Oh and added to list

Thanks for playing AE and SC5 with me QD. I'm starting to learn a little more about SC5 and it's actually fun. The netcode is really good, considering it's a 3d fighter and Namco.

And yep, had to change the voices to Japanese. I couldn't take any more Leixia. But I sure do miss the English Xiba VA. "FOOOOOOOO-!"

Also, Ezio's SC5 theme is GDLK.

I went to rent it today and it wasn't in someone returned it while I was there but it was the 360 version so I rented it anyway since I just wanted to try it out. It was cheap day today and it only cost me 1.07 to rent it for 2 days. The online is good as Option says and to be honest if my internet wasn't wonky lately I would have bought it on release day for PS3.

I'll get it eventually.

I've noticed in SC5 out of like 10-12 matches. One of them completely drops. I assumed it was my internet because that's usually the case, but I've asked several people on xbl and they said it just happens sometimes.

Same with ps3, I was dropping matches all day yesterday. But this morning not a single one, I dunno if its just the server getting rocked hard or what.

Edit: Tried switching to ethernet last night and it didn't make a difference, went back to wireless this morning and no problems.

I can say that happened to me after several matches on Player Match. I think we had to remake the room to fix it.

In unrelated news, I tried the Bacon Milkshake at Jack in the Box... It was meh. It tasted more like maple syrup. And no real Bacon at all...

Paco has been trolling me lately when I'm on psn. Usually when I'm playing a different game he ask me to play KOF so I thought I would return the favor. I asked him to play when I knew my internet was complete shit. He joined and the lol's began.

Hey you know what's never coming back to Evo?

Blazblue.

You know what took its place? King of Fighters XIII.

You know what never has tournaments because the online is too damn good? Blazblue.

You know what game yugioh players love? Blazblue

:booty:

Even with all that asstastic lag, I still layed the smack downo n you Jman. I learned how to play the damn thing on a per frame basis so my combos still come out despite horendous lag. LONG LIVE KALERIA BITCHES!
Didn't know Blazblue came out today. Back to not caring...
Don't worry, nobody cares. Only nerds and weaboos. Them and arcana heart fans can enjoy their near dead communities anywhere that's not Japan.

Yeah you're right.

Ima go back to watermelon fiending and play some of dat mahvel.

Seriously though, $40 price tag is way too much. Especially for those that bought the DLC characters. fuck you Aksys, fuck you.

That wasn't the point, but ok... You never admitted I got you good for all the trolling you was trying to do to me. I knew it would play like hot stinky garbage is why I asked you. ^_^
You know what I can play online because the netcode is so damned good? Blazblue.
You could play the online fine to KOFXIII. It isn't bad at all. I don't understand why you never play it. Its a really good fighter. Compared to the online to Kofxii and considering its from snk. The online to KOFXIII is godlike.

I agree. That's the main reason I didn't buy it since I already bought the dlc and basically 1 new character besides the dlc characters is pretty laughable.

If it came as dlc for 15 bucks I could understand but another fucking disc. Aksys is worse than capcom.

I admit I might eventually buy it, but I wouldn't give over 20 bucks for it at the most and that's pushing it.
I like how Paco shits on these games, but buys them anyway.
At least I'm consistent with my irrational hatred.

You know what I can play with friends without being ashamed? King of Fighters 13. You know what game makes you a social outcast? Blazblue.

I like how Paco shits on these games, but buys them anyway.

I buy them because it gives credence to troll a game properly. But I don't buy em from the gamestore. I buy em used. And with only one character I'm waiting till it hits a bison dollar.

And to Option, YUP that's how I feel. fuck Crapsys games.

I see nothing wrong with playing Blazblue if he enjoys it. Its a good fighter. I just hate there releasing so many versions of the game with not enough content.

This is very true.

Right, because you can buy a game like AH3 used, which you also hated and bought to "troll" on.

GG's Paco. I thought it was going to lag the entire time but it randomly stopped and was actually smooth after 3-4 matches.

I played umvc3 for a little over a hour without any problems during the time its usually crap.
This is very true.

Got euro trollcana trey bro

You know what the best way to stick it to a game is? Not buying it at all.

You still get all the fun of insulting people who DO play it, while keeping that sweet cash in your pocket.

Nah bro, the best way to troll a game is to buy it USED so the publisher and developer get no money, then learn the game and its ins and outs. That way you can legitimately complain about it and how much it sucks.

I have friends that talk trash about games they have never played before which seems really stupid to me. I like your idea better at least you try it out before you say it sucks, but if you hate it why do you keep it or continue to play it? I don't play games I hate. I usually sale them.

Europe got a RETAIL release of Arcana Hearts 3. People sell their copies. That's USED. Either way, I always get my shit from the flea markets. Everything makes its way here. Hell the flea market has a passorts, fake ids and an airline booking station next to an ATM Machine ALL next to each other. Coincidence? I think so.

I play games that I hate so I can in depth bash the shit out of them. Ever wonder WHY I hate Blazblue, YET have a Level 40 Tager? That gives me more credit when I complain because it takes an assload of playing to get that far. At that point, I've played enough to legitimately trash it.
I don't understand, everyone hated the PSN port for 3S, everyone loved HDR so that just begs the question: where is my HDR?
People turned on HDR incredibly fast. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone willing to admit they like it now.
