CAG/PS3 Red Faction: Guerrilla Night [Thursdays @ 10pm EST]

Some good, hectic games last night...I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

I'm going to LA for a meeting next week which means I've got a 14-hour roundtrip flight in my very near future. I've got my eReader and MP3 player to keep me entertained but I've been thinking about picking up a new DS or PSP/PSN game for the trip, as well.

Trouble is, I can't really find anything I want to play. Can you guys recommend any recent releases that I may have overlooked? What have you been playing on your portables?

Normally I'd second Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, but I think I already warned you away from that. Everything else I've been playing on portables lately is either an RPG or really Japanese.

DJMAX Fever is basically a compilation of my favorite two PSP games and it's on the PSN store now. The gameplay is like Rock Band Unplugged but much more frantic. You can sample a lot of the songs at the official site, and here's a really difficult demo. I have a feeling the music may not be your thing--there aren't many songs that I would listen to outside of the game--but it's a great game if you like flashing lights and pushing buttons.

When I used to play DS a lot, I mostly played Pokemon. It was more for the nostalgia than anything else. Remakes of Pokemon Gold and Silver are coming out, but not until March 14. If you're into Pokemon, this can definitely tide you over for 14 hours. If you hate pokemon, just disregard this message.

Anyone up for Excitebots this week? The Wii thread is slowly coming to life.

Wow... the face of a crazed singularity maniac.
all id recommend is monster hunter freedom unite or gta chinatown
I appreciate the recommendation but there's nothing I've read/seen about MHFU that appeals to me. As for GTA, I beat it on the DS and really enjoyed it. There's a CAG who wants to sell me his Chinatown Wars for PSP and LittleBig Planet for PSP for $50 and I'm thinking I might take him up on it.
I would highly recommend Half-Minute Hero.
One of my assistant managers actually recommended that one to me today. I like the concept and the 8-bit style. I like that it's $20. I don't really dig RPGs or games with turn-based play, though. Do you still think I'd enjoy it?

I don't know much about it but I'll look into it some more. I think I confused this with Beaterator when you've mentioned it in the past and now I see that it's something completely different. I'll do some research.
I was going to recommend the Patapon games, but it looks like you own them already. :)
I actually struggled to beat the first one. I have a DL code for the second one that I snagged on the cheap but I haven't activated it yet, so it's definitely a possibility. Is there a significant difference between the first game and the second one? I think Patapon suffers from my misguided expectations: I want it to be like the Locoroco games (which I love) but they're really only similar in art style.

Mute you. ;)

Wednesday night? I could do that.

It pretty much is a very condensed parody of an RPG that I think you would probably still like.
The combat is not turn based but rather is more sidescrolling looking and is actually mostly automatic.

Patapon 2 really isn't all that different from the first game. You can adjust the difficulty in this game, whereas you couldn't in the previous game (i.e. Play it on 'easy'). The addition of Hero Patapon also make this game a bit easier, since they are stronger than the regular Patapon, and can respawn during fights. This way you won't have to backtrack as much for materials. Also, if you have any save data from the first game, you can transfer money and items from that game to help you upgrade your army.

I should be around...

Finished first run through of Dante's...
I read some complaints people had... As usual, the lit majors who read the book in Italian all complain it doesn't follow the story of the poem to the letter, just like they did when this movie came out. That's a pretty good movie, by the way, unless you're one of those snotty lit majors.
I say fuck it, derivative/re-imagining works shouldn't be shunned just because they're derivative. People don't bitch about GoW not following the mythos to the letter do they? (Do they? I seriously don't know... I don't read reviews typically.) When faced with a derivative work, I try to appreciate any homages paid to the original work as well as any creative liberties taken.

Last few levels feeling like shit... Kinda... They're not like the previous ones, but I felt it fit with how they were doing the circles.

And now for a spoiler, it's not story related or anything... Just something I noticed during the last boss... It may already be widespread news...
Are you sure?
Really?
Certain?
Satan is huge...
And I don't mean his body.
I'm in for Excitebots, and I just let the Wii thread know. I wonder if any will show up. :)
Randy: StrandedBrit!
