Anyone know anything about the latest Sony news about their stance on hacking?

I have not done it to my console, but I heard that if someone on a gameshare hacked their PS3, the whole account/console could be banned, and perhaps everyone else using the account!

Confirm/deny?

I dont need to look into it to deny it. The issue with doing something like that is, well even if you have several PS3's/share with someone. You dont control what they do, if my brother were to hack one of mine then I would also get banned despite doing nothing. This will become common even if the people DID do something. You have to understand, if Sony treats people like criminals in this sense, why would I buy a new ps3... perhaps make a new account... redo a lot of games (most saves are account tied), when I could do the thing im pushed for? Piracy would most def shoot up, and sales would drop like crazy. Its from any business outlook stupid to even consider...

Mafia 2 DLC

There are two packs out: Jimmy's Vendetta and Joe's Adventures. Both are $10.00.

$20.00/5 = $4.00 each.

1. me
2. Mixer236
3.
4.
5.

so i have this redeemable code for a Fallout New Vegas 'classic Pack ' which includes:
an armored Vault 13 Suit
a Vault 13 canteen ( great for hardcore mode )
a Weathered 10mm Pistol
and Five Stimpacks

and here's the dilemma.
i could easily enter this on my personal account but was thinking maybe others would want in on this? i honestly would have just given the dlc away for free(except my own share obviously)but there's the account limit per ps3 thingy
so i guess if anyones interested i guess i'd sell the slots for a buck each.
4 slots.

Sony won't necessarily look at it the same way. Similar to how CAG states that gamesharing is at your own risk, Sony won't hold back just because you may not have been the one to actually hack a PS3. You're just simply guilty by association. Once you're banned you have 3 options available:

1. Hack your PS3 since you've already been punished for it anyways.
2. Stop playing the PS3 and go to another console or stop gaming altogether.
3. Buy a new PS3 and stop participating in gameshares with people you don't know and trust.

Option 1, you give up PSN Store and the ability to play multiplayer online. This is a huge deterrent for people who would think about hacking their PS3. You also lose trophy support (since you can't ever synchronize your trophies with your profile). So while some people will jump on this ship, I think far fewer than you would expect.
Option 2, you would spend a great deal more to purchase a different console and possibly have to repurchase games for that console. Once you've built up a PS3 game library, would you be willing to trade/sell them for a fraction of their worth just to repurchase those games for say XBOX 360? It would really just be easier and cheaper to go with...
Option 3, you buy a new PS3, and take it as a learning experience and no longer gameshare. Sony won't mind that at all, since it means more money in their pockets. You will still be able to play all the games in your library that you spent all that money on, and you will be able to play all the multiplayer you want.

I understand what you're saying and can see the logic behind it, but I would not necessarily doubt that Sony will take a firm stand on this. They would be willing to lose a small portion of their customer base, to further deter people from both hacking and gamesharing. They have more to gain than to lose. The average person who first hears about hacking their PS3 will also hear horror stories of people being banned, their accounts marked and never being able to play online again on that console or handle. That would deter all but the most determined.

That's just my thoughts on the subject. No real way of knowing other than to wait and see.

On this subject and sorry for off, but if we deactivate gameshared accounts on our consoles, we should be safe from bans if they happen the way you guys described?

To be honest, who knows? I'm not entirely sure how the ban is. Is it just the ps3 or does it include the psn id? As far as i know, it is a combination of account id and the psn id and they have some sort of method to determine which account is the account of the owner of the jailbroken ps3. If you want to be really sure that you don't get banned then sure, deactivate your gameshares. I doubt Sony will go that far.. Oh wait, nevermind.

I think the most realistic thing that's going to happen is that we won't be able to deactivate the banned ps3 account in our ps3. This is just pure speculation on my part so don't take my word for it.
