TEN PEOPLE YOU MEET ON SOCOM

1."BEST FRIEND FOR A DAY": You have no idea who this person is, you join a random game and on your team is randomguy1. You play a couple maps together, a little chit chat ensues. Next thing you know you got a friend invite from randomguy1. you kinda have to accept it cause your still playing together but all you can think of is " i cant wait for this guy to log off so i can erase him and i pray he forgets my name". This guy feels the need to send you a " nice" message everytime you get a kill or an " lol" everytime you make a funny. He usually disapears after 2-3 days but you usually run into randomguy1 at some point and asks if your the same ni4ni he met 3 months ago, to which you reply " nope"

2." MR.GREEN": This guy has one focus in life...Green Up!! Dont care if its 1 on 15 green up, hey green up. ni4ni green up dude....etc... I try to imagine what its like in mr. greens home and all that makes sense is 4 cambodians with machetes pointing at his mother going " they no green she die" this dude is neurotic, and the funny thing is hes not even greened up!!

3."COACH": This guy knows, he's been there before. Every map,every situation , coach has seen it. And now he is gonna tell all of you what you need to do in order to win. he barks orders at you, points out every shortcoming. tells you what you should have done to stay alive, which is ironic because he is dead. Coach usually lasts 4 or five maps before he is either voted out or he knows you just won 1 of the last 6 games under his watch and he cant handle that. The battle is over for coach but not the war, he'll be back tomorrow with a new batch of troops just lookin for someone to boss them around.

4. "GANGBANG MCSOCOM": This is the hardset mutha f'ka alive, hes from the corner of crenshaw and us east 2. All this guy does is sell drugs, kill people, and go to jail. Oh yeah and play socom? between robbing banks and setting driveby records this guy manages to log onto to socom every day and talk about it. he usually ends up team killin people for not respectin him or he switches sides cause " dem dudes is garbage ova there"

5. " THE MARINE": Straight from a vietnamese torture cave, its the marine. This guy is what would happen if rambo banged robocop, and instead of giving birth, robocop shot the fetus out of a cannon into a pit of flaming skulls...that fetus would be the marine and thats how f'kn intense he is. this guy has in depth knowledge about every firearm in the game. this guy yells and screams. you hesitate to make fun of him for fear he may rappell through your window some night and choke you with piano wire.. no need to worry though, the marine is harmless. hes usally 35-40 which puts him in an age bracket where the only war he was ever apart of was the cola wars in the 80's.

6. "RADIO RAHEEM": This guy apparently is playing socom at an N.W.A. concert. He has the loudest god dam radio in history. he always has to be near you too, giving away your position. you try to shoo him away but he doesnt budge. eventually he takes off down the road and his radio gets gradually quieter but it never really goes away. now your so mind f'ked by bad music and 8 people on the other side know exactly where u are and what you were just listening too, its only a matter of time before you get killed because of radio raheem.

7. "DONNIE DOWNER": Nothing like spawning for the first time of the day, your happy to escape reality for a while and play some good 'ol socom. nothing could ruin this glorious day...nothing except donnie downer. Donnie is about to fill you in on how much this game sucks, how unrealistic it is and why you are such a fool for even playing it. you will be informed of how slant 6 lied to you, how bad the patch sucked. he will tell you names of developers and how bad they suck at their jobs. everytime he gets killed you get a sarcastic laugh and a " yeah ..ok". this man hates socom with a passion, he hates everything about it. By the time donnie is done with you, you realize your just another sheep on the couch takin it from the man. Headset off, back to reality....wow what a **bleep**ty day this is.

8."MR. STAGE 1": If the first stage is denial then this is the only name fitting enough for number 8. That grenade wasnt even near him!! That guy wasnt even looking at him!! theres no way that guy killed him because he shot that guy 600 times in the face!! this guy will not accept a death. there is always some other reason he died. Lag, glitches, gun wouldnt shoot, guy appeared out of nowhere, and so on and so on.....he never finishes a whole game so at least we dont have to hear him for too long.

9."THE NEWB" This guy you gotta feel for. we were all there before. thrust into a warzone with no formal training. only one way to learn...get in there and give em hell...or not. he runs around aimlessly, tends to gravitate towards cars and other things that may explode. hes oviously color blind because the big green thing that says satchel just does not f'kn exist!! he is always the last one alive though so every one gets to pull out their hair watching him, screaming " WHAT THE FK IS THIS GUY DOING" hes usually voted after the second or third round, but he has successfully fked your game up for good. nothing makes for a good time like getting coach and the newb in the same room!!

10." THE TEAMKILLER" (ALSO SEE NAKIDBOB): the teamkiller is socoms most despised individual. has no intentions of killing anyone on the opposing side. No this azzhole has bought the game for 1 sole purpose...piss you the fk off. he has 15 different names so when he gets voted he can slime his way back into the room to piss you off some more. thats assuming that he does get voted because he is so dam quick at quitting the game hes out before the first vote. you know the feeling when he strikes at the beginning of the round all too well....your coming out of the dark, you hear some shots alot of writing in the top left corner, before you can read them to yourself you r screen goes red and your down. Now the teamkiller is already gone and left in his wake utter chaos. what happened? who was that? now your nervous and watching everyone who joins the room like a hawk. is it him? dont try to figure this guy out. some people are just azzholes.

I'm a number 9 all the way. I always feel bad when I'm the last one alive because I can almost feel the wtf statements coming through the wi fi while I get mine in the face as I spray bullets all over the place hitting everything but the opposing team. Even after a year I still feel like a NEWB. I'm not sure what it is about this game though that keeps sucking me in night after night.

Damn, this game is trying to pull me in. I was 1 click away from buying it from Amazon. But then I looked at some more of the gameplay & the TPS elements turned me off.

One day my urge will get the best of me.

I just got introduced to Search in Destroy in MW2, and I'm loving it. I would say its probably my new favorite game mode, closely followed by FFA.

When I read "Radio Raheem" I instantly think of md, haha.

We should have a CAG only night tonight, knifing one of you guys in a the back is way more satisfying then doing it to some random dude :D. It also allows crazy rules that we cannot play when the public is involved.

We used a ton of teamwork that map! And that may have been the first time when I said "hardcore rush" and we executed it perfectly. Great games everyone, had a blast as usual

We are happy to announce that Patch 1.6 will be available for download tomorrow, December 10th at 2am PST (5am EST, 4am CST, 3am MST, 10am GMT, 7pm JST). Please note that the server will not be available during the update but should be available within 1 hour of the release time.
This highly anticipated patch contains a number of updates as well as free downloadable content! In preparation for the upcoming Cold Front DLC, Patch 1.60 provides players with new content and feature updates that include new Special Forces complete with their own unique weapons as well as new primary weapons that will be immediately accessible to all players. In addition to this new content, further optimizations, enhancements and fixes have been added. The highlights of the new content and fixes are detailed below:
New Special Forces
The Dutch KCT and the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces teams are featured in this update. Each Force is provided with two new heads, adding to the existing pool of selectable Special Forces heads. Additionally, they each get a light, medium and heavy variant of their own torso and legs as with other Special Forces and they each have their own Special Force-specific camouflage patterns and headgear. New voice-overs have been added for the new Special Forces characters as well.
New Weapons
Two new primary weapons will be immediately accessible to players who select to play as the new Special Forces: the 417 assault rifle for the Dutch KCT and the SPAS-15 shotgun for the Italian COMSUBIN Special Forces. In addition, four new weapons will be available to all players regardless of assigned Special Force: the 9mm Sub and M82A1A for the Mercenaries and the AK-74 and SR-25 for the Commandos.
Crashes, Freezes and Hangs Fixed

  • Fixed an issue in which players were being booted out of the game to the XMB while loading into and during gameplay.
  • Fixed an issue in which a player crashed when issuing specific commands/taunts at the end of a round.
  • Fixed a hang that occurred when attempting to join a Completed Ladder match.
General Gameplay Updates

  • In Extraction and Escort game modes, rounds no longer end while the Extraction/Escort Timer is counting down and the Game Timer reaches 0:00. (This is a huge change, makes it the same timing rules as demolition.)
  • Fixed an issue in which players couldn’t throw Grenades if they fell a certain distance while throwing Grenades and having Grenades equipped in both Gear slots.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed players to fire the M16A4 as a fully automatic weapon.
  • Prohibited players from floating in the air above the level boundaries.
  • Hostages will no longer sometimes appear invisible to players that Late Joined a game. (Yeah, this happened to me a few times.)
  • The effects of the Mark 141 will no longer carry over from one round to the next.
  • Fixed an issue in which a player would sometimes load into the game a few seconds before other players. (This happened to me a few times last night.)
  • Fixed an issue where multiple players could receive credit for capturing the same control point.
  • Fixed the rare occurrence of a flashing blue Satchel Charge.
  • Added the ability for players to walk over shin height objects without getting stuck and having to jump. (Woohooo!)
  • Improved the ability to shoot over railings and out windows. (Woohoo again!)
User Interface

  • New Loading Screens referencing the Map and Game Mode being played have been added. (Very useful addon)
  • DLC items now appear in the game grayed-out with Shopping Cart icons designating that you must have the DLC in order to access these items.
  • Added a new Brazilian Channel to the list of available Channels.
  • Added 4 new Global Channels: Global North America, Global Korea, Global Japan, Global Europe.
  • Searching for a game in Quick Match will now continually search for matches until one has been found without timing out.
  • In Quick Match, a Cancel option has been added to stop searching for matches at any time.
  • Matches created in Quick Match are now completely randomized from the full pool of maps and game modes and are significantly more likely to select the Day version of the map.
  • Medley matches are now completely randomized from the full pool of maps and game modes and are significantly more likely to select the Day version of the map. (We knew this was coming, but good to see the day is more likely to show up)
  • Made some existing clan colors unique to the U.S. Navy SEALs Special Forces.
  • Removing players from your Tournament team no longer removes those players from the Tournament.
  • Fixed an issue to allow players in Standard Definition to access the Invite Friends screen for Tournaments.
  • Clans that leave a Ladder can no longer be challenged.
  • Character models in the Armory will no longer slide off of the screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the Primary Weapon icon in the HUD would appear distorted when joining a game.
  • Multiple selection icons will no longer sometimes appear in the Region screen.
  • Backing out of the Tournament Sign Up screen no longer results in a blank Day View screen.
  • Adjusted the Headset Volume sliders in the Pre-Game Lobby and in-game Pause Menu to allow more variation in volume.
Weapon Updates & Fixes

  • M87ELR has been augmented to use .50 cal rounds. (Will use more often instead of L96 now on commando side.)
  • Shotguns now do less damage at long range but slightly more damage at close range. (Thank god)
  • Grenade Launchers and Rocket Launchers have significantly less fire delay.
  • Grenade Launcher ammo explosions have a slightly larger blast radius.
  • Slightly increased the accuracy of the M16A4.
  • Slightly increased Grenade encumbrance. (I'll still be caring 4 grenades)
  • Slightly reduced the fire rate of the DE .50. (Will it be easier to use now?)
  • Weapon stat values updated to reflect new and upcoming weaponry. (Will let people on the forum find the differences)
  • C4 will now chain-react when they explode.
  • Grenade Launcher ammo will no longer pass through players.
  • Slightly increased encumbrance for all Grenade Launchers and their ammunition.
Crossroads

  • Players will no longer get stuck when going Prone near some vehicles.
  • Players can no longer get stuck in the Lion statue.
  • Fixed some issues pertaining to the Classic Camera clipping through walls.
  • Decreased Control Point capture distance to prevent capturing points from a further distance in respect to other maps.
  • Hostages will no longer get stuck on concrete barriers in the Extraction zones.
  • Improved AI paths for Hostages in Extraction and Escort modes.
Quarantine

  • Fixed multiple issues involving the dropping out of the Dome graphics.
  • Fixed an issue in which Commandos were able to bypass a Breach Wall in the Dome without using C4. (NOOOO! It was an exploit but it was good to use)
  • Prevented players from getting stuck on various props in the Mercenary spawn area.
  • Decreased Control Point capture distance to prevent players from throwing Flares over the edges of buildings and railings.
  • Improved AI paths for Hostages in Extraction and Escort modes.
Fallen

  • Players will no longer get stuck while trying to move through holes in the stone walls.
  • Improved AI paths for Hostages in Extraction and Escort modes.
Kasbah

  • Added collision to the short walls to prevent players from passing through them.
  • Improved AI paths for Hostages in Extraction and Escort modes.
Urban Wasteland

  • Fixed some issues where players would get stuck while moving in prone next to certain vehicles.
  • Fixed an issue where the wall graphics in the parking lot would drop out and allow players to see outside of the level.
  • Improved AI paths for Hostages in Extraction and Escort modes.
FrostFire

  • Removed a piece of invisible collision in the computer room.
  • Improved AI paths for Extraction and Escort modes.
Desert Glory

  • Changed Mercenary bomb site to ammunition crates to become consistent with other maps. (Inside the building?)
  • Added a new AI path for Hostages to use the Breach Wall route once destroyed. (Nice, if you trying to go out the back)
  • Decreased Control Point capture distance to prevent players from throwing Flares over the edges of buildings and railings.
  • Improved AI paths for Extraction and Escort modes.

Juicy Info: 9mm Sub and m82 are Terrorist Guns. AK74 and SR25 (Silent sniper) are Commando guns.

  • Added the ability for players to walk over shin height objects without getting stuck and having to jump.

New Loading Screens referencing the Map and Game Mode being played have been added. Thank god no more spinning wheel of death


  • Matches created in Quick Match are now completely randomized from the full pool of maps and game modes and are significantly more likely to select the Day version of the map.
  • Medley matches are now completely randomized from the full pool of maps and game modes and are significantly more likely to select the Day version of the map.
  • Increased grenade encumberance
  • Decrease the DE fire rate
Adjusted the Headset Volume sliders in the Pre-Game Lobby and in-game Pause Menu to allow more variation in volume.


Needless to say I am stoked. All in all this patch is every bit as epic as 1.5, probably even better. I am starting to believe they may take this game where it needs to be.
 
How is this game since the launch? I always wanted to get this, but recently bought a ps3. I heard pretty bad things when it launched, but I know it has been patched since then. What do you guys think of the game now? Are there still technical issues that make it difficult to play?
