This is really late, I know, but I just got around to listening to this episode (long story).
I just wanted to say that Wombat isn't crazy about preferring AI enemies. Wombat, the way you put it was that you like the "organization." I thought that was a kind of strange word to describe it, but you had it when you elaborated: that guard is going to keep walking back and forth on his route unless he's interrupted.
I've always been bored by online gaming like Deathmatch and CTF, but enjoy a good single-player FPS. I've wondered what the difference is, and I think I've nailed it, the perfect word to describe it: single-player with AI enemies is more like a PUZZLE. I'm pretty sure that's what I like about it. Some game designer made a map and deliberately put enemies here, here, and here, with the intentions of creating a particular experience. It's a puzzle to be overcome, and it's not something that any online mode can recreate.
Unless of course the game is Far Cry Instinct Predator where they put an enemy here, here, and here and then once you kill them they magically pop up new enemies wherever the hell they feel like.
