Good fight! Though a 91vs57 CAF isn't really a fair fight. Have you done the Grappling training yet? I think those Rubber guard transitions came at lvl 1 or 2. Look forward to a rematch when your CAF has matured!!!

That time works for me. As for why I'm not on during the day, now that school's out, I can actually sleep.I just can't do it at night, it seems. I've been sleeping from 8-9 A.M. Pacific to 4:30-5 P.M. Pacific. In fact, I just woke up now.

Hey guys! Just wanted to remind everybody that you've got about 24 hours to get those last fights from CAGFC4 completed. The remaining fights are:

Matt Domoracki vs Chris Moore (HW)
Matt Young vs Jason Miller (MW)
Jay Gillums vs Brandon Craig (HW)
Mach Sakurai vs Codi Garber (WW)

I really hope you guys can get those fights in. I'm going to have to begin preparing the card for CAGFC5 tonight, since I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow. Since there's presently one outstanding title fight, the match ups might be a little off depending on the result. That's just the way it'll have to be, I guess.

Also, I've just been informed that Blake Garber is retiring. He contacted me earlier today to tell me he no longer wishes to fight in CAGFC. Best wishes to Blake in all future endeavors.

Jason Miller | Matt Young | Submission at 4:06 of Round 1

Easily my worst fight ever. I wasn't feeling it at all. I blame the new medication. Gary got me in the inescapable clinch of death and drained half my energy bar like we were playing WCW Thunder, and then managed to take me down for the fifth or sixth time and got me with the kneebar.

Terrible fight on my part, and now I have a losing record.

Gotta watch out for me ;)

I Just entered a Play N Trade tournament. Winner gets $125 store credit. I'm hoping i can actually win depending on what weight class they use. I think the one person who can take me to a decision almost 80% of the time is Alan.

I didn't even get to do my awesome slam on you either Matt! :D

All right guys, I went ahead and posted the card for CAGFC5: JAPAN! Yes, that's right. CAGFC is going overseas for the very first time. Some of you might remember the early days of UFC, when they went to Japan for the first time. It was such a different atmosphere. The crowds were hushed like they were at the US Open, carefully studying each fighter's every move.

The downside of course was, not as many fighters were able to make the trip, so the cards sometimes seemed watered down. That's not to say that the CAGFC5 card is weak by any means! But with all the fighters we're going to be missing this week due to injuries, vacations, and even a retirement, it just seemed like a reasonable excuse was needed for why the number of fights has actually gone down this week, even though CAGFC's fighter roster increased.

Either way though, it should be a hell of a show, and I can't wait to see how these fights turn out! Just post your results as you normally would, and I'll get the OP updated as soon as I can (I doubt I'll have access to a computer on my trip, but I'll get everything straightened out as soon as I get back). Best of luck to everybody making the trip to the Land of the Rising Sun! :)

So there's not any confusion, the deadline for the 3 remaining CAGFC4 fights is still tomorrow (6/25) at 11:59 PM EDT. Definitely still try to get those fights completed guys!
I really need a win. AceFan, what days/times are good for you?
Honestly, this game has a cruel way of letting you know that you need to play more. I noticed how soft I had gotten when I fought Eric Ortiz again. The first time I fought him (at CAGFC1), I was unprepared because I was more focused on the thread and keeping the tournament moving.

This last time, I hadn't played the game in like 4-5 days because I had been working on my entry for the MySpace music contest/getting things ready for vacation. The dumbest part about it, though, is I'm the one who makes the fucking matchups, lol.

I've been playing ranked matches a lot the past 48 hours though, and have dominated some pretty high level guys (40s). So, hopefully I won't revert to being completely retarded when I get back, haha :bouncy:

I have today off of work so I can play my 2 fights anytime today. Towards the end of the week its get a little messy. Sooner is better for me.

Well I am planning on doing my CAGFC 4 title fight tonight around 9 PM Central so maybe later tonight would work ok? If not I should be free almost all day on Sunday and part of the day on Saturday.

I can't say for sure about tonight, but if I am indeed going to be available, I will let you know before 9 P.M. central. If we don't play tonight, Saturday may work, depending on what time. Sunday would definitely work.

JND (Japan News Daily) - June 25, 2009

Seen walking around earlier today was Gary Russell and Jason Miller. As respectful as they are to Japan's culture, they stopped to have a few kind words with there fans and sign some autographs and take pictures with the locals and fans. When asked why Jason Miller and Gary Russell were seen together, Gary Russell had this to say "I've been a fan of Jason since he started practicing MMA. So he is a teacher to me and we have been thinking about opening our own school pretty soon together and calling it, MRMA. Mayhem Russell Martial Arts. It is such a great opportunity and pleasure to hang out with one of my Idols and somebody who made me want to come into this sport." When asked about his upcoming fight, Gary Russell stayed silent as to not let any secrets out about how he fights. As for Jason Miller he went on to say "MAYHEM MONKEY YO!" and then precedded to do some breakdancing. We will have more to cover of this story at 10 after Gary Russell's fight with Black Black Smurf."

I lost to vulcan with a tap out at the end of the 4th round. *Sigh. Gotta love that sub system that takes nothing into account.

N8 I know we said we wouldnt post non league stuff in but all of us are in this forum and it seems kinda pointless to post in both but I will put it in spoilers as to not clutter up the joint.

Let me start by saying this is with no disrespect to vulcan what so ever you played a good match, this is in no way being a sore loser, you won in a legal way more power to ya. I am only saying this to further my complaint about the sub system being completely broken.

I wish you guys could have somehow watched the match...I dominated in every aspect. (Again no disrespect to vulcan) but I seriously do not think you can say I didnt win in every aspect. I landed way more punches and kicks, I blocked all but 3 of his take downs, he only got 3 transitions on me the entire match never getting further than open guard or standing guard. Other than the fact that you slammed me like 4 times you didnt even really cause me any damage other than GNP stuff in the open guard position.

At the end of the 4th round I had red stamina because the game thinks throwing punches takes more energy then getting hit by those punches which I still dont get. (Note that he had red stamina way before I did) So obviously he starts going for subs the rest of the round ...I broke out of at least 5 sub attempts that match. (I am not knocking him for doing so.) But due to the ease as which you can spam sub attempts and the fact that there is no way to skillfully get out of one other than button mashing I was destined to lose. Its the same with Cro Cop. It takes way more stamina to kick the hell out of someone than it does to get kicked making it easier to sub someone. All you are really have to do is try not to get flash KOed and wait in order to get a sub and relying on button mashing is such a piss poor way to deceide who is going to win that.

Honestly if I actually went for subs you would have tapped in the 3rd round. His ratings me beat he did not. I just hate the fact that you can attempt subs without a care in the world and the only thing the other player can do is hope the game allows them to break it this time. My skill in the game is moot beacuse the ratings are so over baring in this game. His guy is simply rated better than mine in the sub area so there isnt much more I can do. Stamina management is kinda bullshit because in order to keep it in a area that is most likely to get me out of subs I would have to never throw a punch.

Again, not trying to rip on him at all. Its not really you I am talking about vulcan just the way the system is set up.

Anyway...congrats vulcan.

Mach Sakurai | Codi Garber | KO at 3:33 of Round 4

One of the best fights I've had so far. Good action all over the place, back and forth for the most part, although I was losing on the feet I'd say. Ended with a flash KO headkick but the end was coming for me anyways I think, I escaped being rocked in the 3rd round somehow. My favorite part of the fight was actually the almost zero lag I had, probably the best running fight I've done so far so that was a nice bonus.

So seeing as how I lost my title and I was scheduled to defend it at CAGFC 5 it seems to just make sense that Tuff defends it now against homeland and I can just take the week off to heal up. I'm assuming that makes sense for everyone involved?

The thing is, all of this is stuff you were aware of coming into the fight. It's not like the game is changing on you. From having fought you Sood, I know you fight super aggressive. sleepy180 is the same kind of fighter. You guys come out and you just take it to your opponent throwing huge punches and kicks. The drawbacks to that strategy is 1. it leaves you open for takedowns. And 2. it drains your stamina. You're essentially playing beat the clock, trying to get a knockout.

Personally, I'm glad the game gives out some kind of "consequence" for people who choose to fight like that. Otherwise, you'd be unstoppable. As much as you say the sub system is unrealistic, for the most part, it plays out exactly like real life. The only people I've seen complain about it are people who have little knowledge of MMA. There have been dozens of real fights where guys have been beaten badly, who think "shit, if I don't get this to the ground, I'm going to get knocked out!" And they end up getting a submission on their opponent who has worked so hard for the knockout, he has no energy left to defend.

I just had a few ranked matches last night that were straight up BJJ wars on the ground. We were rolling all over the mat, with reversals...and reversing reversals, technical submission escapes that led to submission attempts for the other person, which were then escaped from. It was truely a struggle to get the win. In my opinion, that's how the game should be played. The people who come running across the octagon at the bell and start throwing 10,000 punches are the ones playing unrealistically.

My final advice on the subject is this...and I'm saying this to anybody, we really don't need complaining in here. If your style is valid enough to win a belt, then it's certainly valid enough to lose it. I got dominated in my title fight with Eric Ortiz because I wasn't ready to deal with his style of fighting. As I've said, I don't enjoy fights like that, but that's not his fault. If you lose, figure out what you can do differently, and adapt your game. If you're not willing to do that, then remember that nobody is forcing you to be here. If you're not having fun, don't play anymore. I hate to sound cold about it, but the truth is, nobody here gives a shit, lol.

Luckily, I'm still home (leaving in about 2 hours). Yeah, that will work.

Wow, big things happening as CAGFC4 finishes up and CAGFC5 gets under way! (had to post this before I leave) CAGFC's longest tenured champion, Codi Garber has been dethroned by Mach Sakurai! Congratulations to Sakurai, who snapped Garber's 3 fighting winning streak, and became only the 2nd fighter to hold the CAGFC Welterweight belt. By winning the belt, Sakurai will now be making the trip to his homeland of Japan to defend it against Jay See.

CONGRATS MACH!

As CAGFC5 got under way, Gary Russell became CAGFC's first 2-time champion by defeating Big Black Smurf with a kimura at 4:53 of the fourth round! Russell now moves to 5-1 in CAGFC, with his only loss coming against the now retired Blake Garber. That fact begs the question, will Russell ever lose again???

CONGRATS GARY!

The rest of the CAGFC5 card looks to be one hell of a show, and we all eagerly await the results. The one thing I'd like to remind everybody who is upset after taking a loss, my #1 priority when setting these matchups is putting you in there with someone who can beat you. If I'm not creating fights where both fighters have a strong chance to win, then I'm not doing my job right.

But this is fighting, gentlemen. Rather than crying about your losses, use it as fuel. Hit the gym and revamp your game. Because of the different ways that people fight, no one strategy is going to work every time out there. You have to adapt to what your opponent throws at you. Remember, any fighter can win on any given day. That's the beauty of this sport.

I don't think anyone here is in denial that some things in this game aren't perfect. Submissions, single collar ties, rubber guard, ect. all need some work for next years game. But this is what we got, and you know what..... IT'S GOOD. Is it one year away from being great, hopefully, but this current game stands on its own as a really good MMA game period. It has flaws, but instead of constantly bitching about them you just try to figure out ways to deal with the problems, just like every other game out there.

I meant to post here last night, but didn't get around to it. I got my system back yesterday, so I'm good to go on next week's card.

EDIT: Alright fine. Its my bad then.

So I would like to announce the retirement of Big Black Smurf. Small light Smurf is still fighting though.

I will say this though, N8 dont assume you know what I am doing. You have fought me 1 time in a match where you seemingly couldnt find the timing to block any punches.

Drew: Good to hear that you got your 360 back. f you want to play some UFC or Quantum, that's what I'll be on in the next few days.

Soodmeg: why retire your guy? He just lost the belt, and nobody said anything suggesting that you leave that division. If you want to try some exhibition bouts, let me know on that.

Nate: you left Gary as #2 (there are two #2's in that division now). Also, have fun on your trip.

Ok, if one loss is enough to make you give up on BBS, that's fine. And I wasn't forming my scouting report of your style based off of just my fight with you. I've also seen what's been written by others. I think it's a fairly reasonable assessment to say you're an aggressive fighter. But there's NOTHING wrong with that. Eric Ortiz has ridden that style to a nice title reign.

But you have to recognize that people have different approaches. Some guys only throw counters, some guys go for takedowns, some guys use wrestling slams, etc. I fought one jackass who the second I took him down, rather than transition, he'd just go for a kimura, which I'd easily escape, and then we'd be in a different position. To him, that's a "fighting style". It's still your job to learn how to deal with it.

All right, that's all for me guys. I'll see you all next week!

Big Black Smurf was intended to be simply a place holder until Small Light Smurf was completed, that decision was in no way influenced by anyone here.

BBS was my first run through career and if you look at his stats its all screwed up as I was trying to match the actually UFC fights in the game. Since the game so heavily favors ratings over what is actually happening I can see him annoying me into not playing the game anymore.

SLS who is like a 98 (or so) has good sub defense so I never again have to deal with that random leg bar.

EDIT: N8 you are not really seeing my point. Its not about fighting styles or adjusting.

Think again. If you get caught while in the right position, you can be tapped even with the high rating. Position advantages and disadvantages influence a hold's effectiveness just as much as stamina and such does. And also remember that sub defense factors into a technical escape (stick twiddlin') while strength is the main attribute that determines whether you get a button mash escape.

I know you guys are just trying to help and maybe I am being slightly defensive here but you are talking to me like I have never played the game.

Guys trust me, its not a skill thing, no amount of random advice is going to fix the sub system. I know how to play the game I didnt just open it yesterday. I am 74-30 legit online choosing solely cro cop, hell I should be something like 90 and 30 but we all should have about 10-15 more wins...damn DCers.

I wasn't trying to patronize you. I was basing what I said off this statement: "SLS who is like a 98 (or so) has good sub defense so I never again have to deal with that random leg bar."

Speaking for which I havent had a recorded win in over 15 matches....the higher you go up the ladder the more DC there are. Then then the people with lower records never want to fight you because your record seems like you DC.

EDIT: Oh I see what you are saying Matt.

I will admit, I have backed out twice before the fight started when I saw super high rated guys. But I'm only 2-1 in ranked. I really need to catch up.

It's weird, I never have problems with subs, online or off (other than accidentally hitting the guide button trying to escape, buts that's a different story and my own fault). I've sparred with Vulcan at least 10-15 times, with both MW and HW characters having 70-80 Sub defense and max strength, and have only been submitted once. Maybe it's the technique I use to escape, but who knows. And I know you know what it is I do to escape subs Gary, so don't go around spilling it.

Sleepy: Added you on Xbox Live again. Want to try to set up a time? I'm generally on at night.

Nate: Have fun, and thanks for the work on the league.

Also, Nate have a good Vacation!

EDIT: cgarb, looks like I can't do tonight. To be perfectly honest, I've gotten no sleep and I feel like hell. I played terribly in my fight against Vulcan and just couldn't get into it, and that was when I was rested. So I think the weekend would be best. Let me know what time frame you'll be available in on Saturday, or we can just do it Sunday like I suggested before.

Yeah that's fine with me. It's looking like Sunday will work best for me. I sent you a friend request, maybe your list is full? Anyways I will get in touch on Sunday sometime.

Oh hey... Didn't expect you to be on quite yet. Yes, my list is full. If you have a certain time that's good for you, let me know. I'll be busy from 5-8 P.M. Pacific time, but other than that, I'm free all day Sunday. I could also probably play tomorrow night if you are home.

I just need some sleep. The caffeine is not cutting it. I just want to be able to sustain myself for another 5 hours or so, so I can go to bed and wake up at a decent time. I'm utterly useless for anything in the meantime, however.

Eric Ortiz | Jackie Chan | KO | 2:03 of 2nd round

Great match man. I had a strategy for you this time lol. Last match you were really really great at anticipating my mixups standing by catching my shots. So I started practicing my mount game and it looks like it took you a little by surprise. You defended well in the first but I was able to get knock you out from mount in the 2nd. Not as epic as our first encounter but fun nonetheless. We need to play more because i'de really like to learn to catch as well as you. haha.
