CAGFC (UFC 2010 League) - 9/25/10 - CAGFC25: MELTDOWN (fights due by 9/30)
Nate Lisa d. Jack Locke 2nd Round (1:03) KO

Next time I fight I'll have some different attributes. How do you get unpinned from the ground? Is it just using the right stick, or do I actually have to press a button when I'm in good position?
Nate Lisa | Jack Locke | KO | 0:51 of Rd 2

Yeah, good fight, Franky! I fought smarter this time than I did against Matt. I just used my striking to set up the takedown and then worked my ground game. To get out from bottom, you've gotta use quarter or half circles with the right stick. The thing is, you have to be careful with your timing because those moves can be easily reversed if you're too predictable (which was sort of happening in our fight).

The trick is to just press the right stick in a direction until you see your hands/legs move to start the transition, and hold it until you're ready to actually go for it...then complete the motion. But of course, you want to vary your timing with that as well. Just avoid being predictable. The ground portion of UFC takes a good amount of practice and stretegy to learn well.

Here's video of the fight with occasional commentary by our own FrankySox, haha. :)

Oh, also, as you can see at the end of the video, that seen "jumped in" and interrupted my victory announcement, haha. So, he gets to fight me next!

"I don't preciate bein' interrupted when I'm tryin'ta listen to Bruce Buffer call my name 'n see the zact time the fight finished! He tryin to put his name over mine like he done won the fight or somethin! He aint do shit! I'mma pound on you like I was your momma. You best believe dat...foo!" lol, :)

All right guys, all of the fights are finished, and records and rankings have been updated accordingly. Since we've had belts changing hands several times recently, the rankings are a bit of a revolving door. But lately, it seems people have been taking turns beating each other, so it's really tough to judge. Regardless, the card for CAGFC24: OVERLOAD is now up! These fights will be due by 9/23 at 11:59 PM EST!

Also, with the recent release of several big games (and more to come), I just wanted to check in with everybody on their interest in continuing the league. Obviously, it doesn't take much time to get fights done, but I wanted to make sure everybody was still having a good time doing this and wished to continue.

Another thing to consider is that EA MMA comes out in about a month (10/19). I have no idea how many people are even considering getting that game...or if it will work for this kind of league, but it's supposed to have some really great features (including a spectator mode to watch online fights). I know it's hard to say without knowing how good the game is, but I don't know if anyone will want to continue the league with that game...continue with UFC 2010...or just put the league on hiatus until next spring. Feel free to voice your opinion on this, and where you stand with CAGFC in general. Thanks guys!

I've been looking forward to EA MMA more and more every time I learn new things about it, but I'm probably not getting it at release due to the massive amount of games being released this fall, especially in October. Already having UFC means EA MMA is not a priority, especially with stuff like Fallout, Smackdown, and Rock Band 3 coming out within a week of EA MMA's release.

Jay and Dave, I can do our fights pretty much any night other than Friday, Monday, or Tuesday (unless it's before hockey on Tuesday).

What I don't get about EA MMA is why do they announce the Red Corner first (and have them located on the right; the challengers side) and announce the Blue corner second and have it located on the left; normally the side of the champion.

Just read that THQ won't be releasing a UFC game next year. Apparently all the problems and drop in sales have convinced them to go with an 18 month development cycle. They're estimating a January/February 2012 release. So, EA MMA will basically be the only MMA game released until that date (I'm not counting that Xtreme MMA bullshit or whatever the hell it's called).

Great! It would be nice if they released it a few months later, around the usual time, since summer doesn't see many big releases. There doesn't need to be a game every year. I mean, one huge reason UFC 2010 didn't sell as well was the fact that the roster remained much the same as the year before, just expanded a bit. It's not like other sports in which they have teams with rosters that change regularly, or even WWE, whose roster turnover is high and gimmick changes/pushes can attribute to large differences in characters.

EA's alternating years between MMA and Fight Night. It would make the most sense for both companies if they released their MMA games in alternating years to maximize sales for them (in those particular years, anyway) and enjoyment for us.

Wow, E.AAA Honda ran into a buzzsaw earlier tonight in his fight against Thomas "Epic Beard Man" Bruso. See for yourself!

Thomas Bruso | E.AAA Honda | TKO | 1:09 of Rd 1

Looking shaky from the time he walked into the octagon until referee Mario Yamasaki raised his hand as the winner, Bruso was asked for a reason for this. To which he replied "It's all these China-men around me, man! It's like fucking Nam all over again!" He then ran to the locker room screaming "Watch out for Charlies up in the trees!"

As I said earlier in the thread, I won't be available Monday or Tuesday, at least not till late. Well, Tuesday I can squeeze a fight in if necessary, but CAG hockey is going on that night.

Sunday, I'll be at a sports bar with friends watching the Packers game, which should end around 4:30 Eastern, meaning I should hopefully be able to play by 5. I do have a Madden game after Sunday night football.

I posted my availability in the thread a couple days ago, so I hope this doesn't cause any problems. Franky and I talked last night and we should be able to play soon, too.

Jay messaged me earlier before Monday Night Football, but I was playing a CAG Madden game and then had plans to watch the MNF game with my friend who was over. I told him we could play tomorrow (before or after CAG hockey, or I'd sit out 1 game) or Wednesday, but he didn't say if eh could play for sure. Franky I think wants to play on Wednesday.

Okay Jay... name a time from 8 Eastern on, and I'll play you then. I'll be playing Franky as well, but he hasn't stated a time. He's on late usually, though, so we should have no problem getting that one in. I probably should practice... belt is on the line, and you kicked my ass in our last heavyweight fight.

Yeah, seen hasn't been on Xbox Live in like 5 or 6 days...and I haven't really seen him around CAG either. I hope he's available to play either today or tomorrow. seen, if you see this, I can probably fight most any time tonight. As for tomorrow, I should be around starting at 8 PM EST, but not sure how late I can play. If you have a time in mind, let me know.

No word on here from Jay or Franky, but I'll be getting on XBL at some point tonight even if I don't hear from them. Gotta play some Halo; I haven't played since Thursday.

Well, seen, I've got 7:55. You said you'd easily be back before 8, but I guess not. I'm about to head out to run some errands, and I probably won't be able to get on Xbox Live until at least midnight. If that doesn't work for you, we'll have to do tomorrow night.

I'd just like to let everyone know there is a lot of buzz surrounding what seems to be a press conference set for 3pm est time. Not much info is getting out but big news seems to be on the horizon.

PS. Can the next UFC Card be called, FULL LOAD?

N8 sorry I missed our fight yesterday I was out of it. N8 & Jay I'll be around most of the day so just send me a message when you're ready to play.

seen, I sent you a PM, but I'll post the same thing here. I can get our fight in now if you happen to be around. I'm not sure how long I'll be on, as I'm kinda bouncing all over with errands today. I should definitely be able to get on by 10-11 PM EST though if we're not able to get the fight in now.

Ok guys, all fights were finished on time, so good job with that! Records and rankings have been updated and the card for CAGFC25: MELTDOWN is now up (sorry Franky...maybe we'll save "Full Load" for another time...or another league, haha).

Fights will be due by Thursday, 9/30 at 11:59 PM EST. As I've mentioned, I'm not sure how much longer people wish to keep this league going. But as long as there is an interest, I'll keep creating the cards. I just know that some fighters have faced each other 3-4 times at this point, so I'm not sure if those matchups are becoming boring or not. Feel free to voice opinions on this at any time. Good luck to all!

Franky and seen, I'll be available all day Tuesday and Thursday. Tomorrow , I probably wont be available until technically Thursday morning, depending on your time zones.

Unfortunately I've decided to sell the game off. For what I got I decided it was worth it since I wasn't playing very much. I also needed the money for soap.

Hopefully I can catch up with you guys on NHL 11 here soon when I get it. Once again I'm sorry and hopefully you guys can find a fill in quickly.

Well that sucks. I've been trying to ask people if they still had an interest in continuing to do the cards, but nobody really said much of anything. I'm guessing this will most likely be the last card then. I doubt anyone will be jumping in, so it's either that or sit somebody out each week.

On a related note, the demo for EA MMA is now up for anyone who's curious. I'm downloading it right now. I pre-ordered it at the same time I pre-ordered UFC, so now I'll finally get to see if that something I need to cancel. I guess if you play the demo (and send out an invite I'm assuming), you can unlock "classic" Randy Couture in the full game. I wonder what other "standard EA" features will make it into the game.

Yeah I apologize and hope this doesn't stop the league. I would have liked to keep it but needed the money before my paycheck. Finally found work, but don't get paid until the end of the week and really needed some cash. If I could find this cheap somewhere I might pick it back up since I already have the online pass or whatever it's called.

I don't know why it's been so hard, either, but it has. I guess people are focusing more on other games, including Nate, moojuice, and myself playing NHL 11 a lot.

I'm all for continuing if possible, but I guess we'll see.

It just seems doubtful, Matt. Even Alan mentioned the only time he plays the game is once or twice a week for the CAGFC fights. I usually play it about once a week outside of CAGFC because I'm still trying to get the 100 ranked wins achievement, but that's been a ridiculous grind considering most of the people left playing ranked have like 800 wins and spam subs like there's no tomorrow. But yeah, I have a much better time playing NHL.

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with how long we've kept it going. If we finish off CAGFC25, we'll have done 10 straight weeks of cards...which is only 2 short of the number we reached before closing up last year. But considering the terrible start we got off to with all the online problems and people losing interest, I think it's a pretty damn good accomplishment just to stay afloat that long.

Assuming we do finish CAGFC25, Matt. I'm going to redo my fighter's stats to be more balanced again so we can battle like we used to...instead of me needing to just slam the shit out of you to get the win. The only reason I ever set my guy up like that was to combat Bubba's bullshit, and it just feels lame fighting every fight that way.
I was totally cool with how the last fight turned out. ;)
Well, if you want me to keep my guy like that that's fine by me. But I can promise you I won't fight the same way. Not much sense trading punches when your standing strikes offense is at 1.

No, I was just saying I liked it because I won, hence the emoticon. I want you to fight however you want. We'll have another great battle.

I can play tomorrow night, or after I get back from Vegas. I'll be gone Friday-Sunday. I guess the deadline doesn't matter as much if there will be no more cards after this.

Time to try out career mode!

GG moojuice; it was a fun back and forth battle. Don't know I can say the same for our match N8 as it seemed like a mirror of our WW fight which was a slaughter (its hard for a striker to compete with a GnP specialist).

I personally wouldn't mind if we had enough to continue as this league is what gets me to put the game in my console every-week.
