I agree. Free agents are always off limits unless it's a designated signing period anyway and that period hasn't been decided yet, so why not advance.

If you enter practice mode can you play for awhile then exit the mode and come back later, or does it lock you out? I want to practice with my team, but its such a short amount of time that they give you. Wish there was a dedicated practice mode where XP wasn't earned.

Also... I am looking to trade for a wide receiver and/or a cornerback. Looking for a starting quality player at both positions. I got a speed rusher in the draft with an 84 rating that I would be willing to trade along with other players/picks. PM me if interested.
 
so im not sure who is going to be my starting RB this year to be honest im not sure if im gonig to go with wilson or green-ellis so when we do pre season since i only have thoughs 2 rbs is it ok that i switch them in back and fourth so i can get a better feel for both of them? i would think this is ok since thats how the real nfl does it but this isnt the real nfl so i figured it be good to check first
 
You can just go two back and switch them out whenever. If I don't get what I'm looking for with Best that is what I'm going to do.

The only position you have to give a heads up on is the QB
 
lol during the preseason i will be rockin it with matt moore when he comes it dudes the best back up qb in the game thats an actual back up qb. well maybe matt flynn might be better but still. i just plan on giving luck his few snaps then. and i will get a good chance to try out my back up WRs i think i have a nice core of WRs lol i have 7 but one is only really there to be a return man. but barden mathews lewis will be great targets for moore to throw to
 
lol i have him on the falcons in the other league as my back up and in the pre season he worked wonders for me. that was a great pick up for sure. his sac and mac are great dac not so much
moore is 84 sac 82 mac 81 dac but throw power is like 81 or 82 i think but not bad for a back up

if only he could throw deep lol 81 throw power is weak but as long as he can throw it 20 yards or even 30 yards and be on the spot im fine with that for a backup. id be confident enough if he had to come to be able to do the job
 
Man, what a bust my draft was. Not sure what the CPU was thinking on some of these. Glad I got a superstar dev OLB that will automatically start but no help on either line. No help at WR either.
 
lol my first round pick was a 70 overall wr that i already cut. my 6th rounds pick however are both still on the team
i wanted the CB that doc drafted i scouted all CBs and stumbled across him and used alot of scouting on him but no luck went with who the jets wanted to pick but just cut him so if he wants him he can have him. wut a wasted trade on a pick thats going to cost me in the next draft for no reason. o well my teams future looks good either way. but with that drafted board cheat people were talking about doesnt seem like my draft future is very good

Ok, now that everybody has had time to calm themselves, I just want to point out, this really isn't that much different from what we will be doing. As I said, after Thursday, I probably won't be available much and will be limited on when I can advance the league. Obviously, I'll be using the website...but between 7 hour drives, trying to keep a one year old happy, visiting with family, last minute shopping, etc...I can't swear that I'll always be near a computer.

I'm not going to give people a hard advance schedule and not be able to stick to it myself. Having said that, I already hinted that we could advance TO the first week of the regular season before New Year's and just elongate that first week. To me, that seems reasonable enough. Complaining otherwise starts to become nitpicking.
 
Now, on to a bigger subject which could impact us much more...this is what the free agent selection order will look like based on roster count AND salary cap space (used as a tie breaker).

Group 1 is free to sign ONE free agent starting now. Please post in the thread who you're signing before you sign him in the game. Once you post who you're picking up in here, he's yours and cannot be taken by another team. And remember, free agents can be signed from the website, so you don't really have to be near your Xbox to figure out who you want.

As some of you are aware, the Panthers are severely screwed up. They only have 47 players and have -$3M in cap space. I'm really not pleased at all with what Doo Mane did to them. He turned out to be EXACTLY the kind of owner that community leagues like this don't need, and I'm kind of disappointed that Doom vouched for him.

He traded many of the Panthers top players, put them in a financial crisis, and bailed on the league. I seriously doubt staticz wants to try to salvage that train wreck, but if he could at least make them functional, I'd appreciate it (he's going to have to cut some significant salary so they can even have a full team.

Our other CPU teams (Steelers and Chargers) are pretty short on players as well...but at least they have cap space. I'm guessing at some point, I'll have to put them back on autopilot to allow the CPU to fill in the roster. We just need to decide when that should be.

The reason it's being done like this is because of how fucked up some of the rosters are. This isn't just going to be just little fill ins here and there. Some teams need 10+ players still...and that's AFTER they just drafted 7. There's still some major work that needs to be done for several of these teams.

People can say "Oh, they should have been prepared." But at the end of the day, we still need opponents to play and these teams need players. If you don't NEED players at this point, consider it a job well done on your part.
 
Eh, I'm not going to shit my pants about it. Like I said, whatever. I was miffed for a second, but then I remembered it's tiny in the grand scheme of things. Some Madden roster woes are pretty insignificant compared to the shit that happened a couple days ago. We all should remember that.

I second this. I have 53 guys sure but at least 4 are scrubs I was intending to cut. Ah well, guess we'll have to make the best of this.

How long will these groups have for signing windows? 8 hours? 12?

EDIT: pitfall, just saw we're playing each other in the championship for our fantasy football CAG league!

I'm good with whatever gets us going vi think a short FA block window could work though. People know pretty much who they want or need. Maybe make it where you can pick if you miss your block?

or if you miss your block you have to wait for a majority of the current block to pick. Adds a little incentive to keep up with the thread.

To everyone dumping their draft players right away, make sure you check their development trait first. For example, I drafted a Superstar trait WR, who's only an overall of 74, by the end of the season he may be an 80 though.

Really getting tired of the constant bellyaching in here. I've also got 53 players and could have cut some "scrubs" so I could sign more high profile free agents to one year deals. We're doing ONE round of draft style free agency, then it will be opened up completely. You'll be free to cut and sign whoever you want after that. But right now, there are teams that need a lot of help just to be able to field a team.

As for a signing window, considering I posted the groups really late, I think it's only fair to give group 1 at least until this afternoon sometime.

That's how we always do it. If you "miss" your draft window, you can still pick somebody. The groups just give the team's with a greater need a bit of an exclusive window. If you miss it, you just risk the chance of someone from the next group taking who you wanted. Obviously, once your group's time opens up, it's smartest to make your choice as soon as possible.
