CAGLS: Madden 13 Gentlemen's League - We Finished! Thanks for Playing!
is anyone the owner of the rams? i PMed lyric but he said he resigned and thats who it shows at the front page for the Rams.
Yeah, sorry about that. I need to update the OP. Ubernes is the owner.

Steelers are playing the newly vacated Ravens as we speak. We'll be advancing sometime tonight after that game is finished. I've also contacted the "next in line" about Baltimore, so hopefully we'll have a new owner for them soon (our 4th in one season...YIKES!)
I can't even reason with this anymore. Has this guy never heard of Trent Dilfer? He won a Super Bowl as an incredibly mediocre QB. You have to be high to honestly think that Jay Cutler is a good quarterback. He's a game manager at best.
Cutler being a "game manager" is the single most retarded football thought I have ever heard. He is so the opposite of a game manager its ridiculous. I mean seriously, that's basically the same thing as saying Brett Favre was a game manager. Being a gunslinger is the polar opposite of a game manager. A game manager doesn't have a top-3 or even the #1 arm in the entire league. A game manager doesn't make amazing throws that 5% of all NFL qb's can make and then turn right around and throw a pick 6 on the next possession. I was thinking people who are so dedicated to a Madden league like this one would know something about football but apparently that's not the case.

The way Cutler throws the ball is crazy to me. I mean - I am not a Bears fan, and it may be just me.. but it looks like he just flicks his wrist and throws the ball 60 yards like it's nothing lol.

The idea that a "gunslinger" is an actual type of QB is the biggest crock of shit that modern sports media has created. In the old days, do you know what they called a "gunslinger"? A shitty quarterback. "Wow! He throws a TD on one play and a terrible INT on the next play! What a brave quarterback!" The same garbage gets spouted about Ryan Fitzpatrick. In reality, they are unreliable QB's with pisspoor accuracy. That's not something to be proud of.

Wearing this "gunslinger" badge as some kind of battle scar is a joke. Don't lob insults at me because you're butthurt that nobody thinks of Jay Cutler as a serious quarterback. I said he's a game manager "at best"...meaning when he plays that way, he's solid enough to keep the Bears playing well. When he gets in his head that he's Joe Montana, he costs the Bears games.

I'm starting to think some of the people in this league are too young to remember what a good QB looks like. I grew up in a time when Joe Montana, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, Dan Marino, John Elway, Phil Simms, Warren Moon, Jim Kelly, Boomer Esiason, etc. all played at the same time. THOSE were elite quarterbacks...and that was during a time when teams were actually allowed to play defense. The crap that passes for a "starting QB" these days is laughable.

Yeah, I would definitely call him a gunslinger over a game manager. That word popped into my head before I even finished the first sentence of your post.

edit - I do agree with n8. Being called a gunslinger isn't necessarily a good thing.

man i miss aikmen cowboys need romo to start using the nose candy so he can play like him lol. i miss elway marino young aikmen and moon. these guys were amzing these days we have. brees brady rodgers peyton manning and every now and then eli

Yes I'm sure no one had Cutler as a top 10 QB before the season started. Not like he was on constant lists seen as in the second tier of great QBs with Rivers, Ryan, Stafford guys like that. Go and look up Ron Jaworski list. Or John Clayton's. Players that could go out and WIN your team ball games. Maybe you free up during that time but it doesnt seem like you can recognize talent anymore if you dis on Cutler like that.

Do you know what his QB rating in the 4th quarter of games is this season? And i hate using that stat because it feels like I'm talking about a QB like Romo, but its 135.5. Best in the league. A "game manager" doesn't do that.

If he was just a "game manager at best" then the Bears would have still made the playoffs last season. They did have a 7-3 record remember. And all the guys that are on defense now playing so well were there last year too.

I too am starting to wonder if people in this league even know Madden is the video game to a real sport because it doesn't seen like people know who the good players are in the league.

Wow really??? The whole "back in my day when qb's were actually good" is so dumb I can't even fathom it. First of all, I AM old enough to remember most of those players you listed so that's DUMBNESS #1. Second of all, you are basically insinuating that there aren't any good qb's today by that statement which is DUMBNESS #2. What you said is true of course, except for the fact that TWO of the greatest to ever play the game are currently playing! When Peyton Manning and Tom Brady retire they will both be in everyone's all-time top-5 greatest qb's list, everyone with a brain that is. And someday Aaron Rodgers may be an all-time great as well....I mean what the hell is going on here?

Also about the whole gunslinger thing, it is just a name people have given to a specific type of qb, that's all. It doesn't automatically mean a qb is a great, good, average, or even bad player, it just describes their playstyle. A gunslinger would be described by most people as a qb with a HUGE arm, an arm so strong that they have the mentality of " I can fit the ball into any window no matter how small it may be" which makes for some spectacular plays and some awful ones too. I don't think it's worn as a "badge of honor", it has always had a bit of a negative slant to it (except with Favre who could do no wrong in most people's eyes).

I am completely fine with people saying Cutler is an average qb or whatever they want to say about him. But calling him a game manager is just idiotic and untrue. If a qb is average or bad that doesn't automatically mean they are a game manager, that's not what game manager means. A game manager is someone who doesn't take a lot of risks with the ball, someone who will not make a lot spectacular plays but will also not turn the ball over very much. A game manager needs a good/great defense and a good/great running game behind him to win in the NFL (see Trent Dilfer). But the downside to a game manager is he typically can't win you the game when coming from behind, when the game is in the balance and it's solely up to him to win the game he doesn't have the skill/talent to get the job done on a frequent basis.

I mean, I normally like explaining football to people who don't know much about it but I am starting to get fatigued at this point.

Omg can we please just drop the Cutler issue, or take it to PMs if you care that much.

Or start a new thread designated for Culter discussions lol.

LOL...I totally vote for a Cutler thread. But yeah, I'm definitely over talking about it (cgarb never seemed to understand what I was saying anyway, as he just continues to ramble on trying to "teach" me football). I'll maintain that he's not that good of a QB, and I believe his numbers at the end of the season (and how the Bears finish) will prove that. It is upsetting that people can't discuss it without resorting to personal attacks though. That kind of stuff is really uncalled for.

This is seriously the dumbest argument I've ever seen on here. Take it from a Broncos fan, I'd rather have Cutlery knifing up the defense and forking up a few throws than the prototypical game manager Kyle Orton, if I have to choose between the two.

just had a gg with droppinloadz.

he stopped my run pretty well i att 14 time for 27 yards! But on the passing side Gronk had 6 Rec for 122 yards and 4 TDs. what killed him was my D i came away with 5 INT 2 of them coming from Arrington who is doing amazing for me this year!!!

I agree. I feel dumb for getting dragged into a discussion on the merits of Jay Culter. Can you tell I had a bye last week?

Perdition (Troy), Just pmed ya and my phone is going haywire. I dont know if it got through. I can play this evening and tomorrow all day! Let me know.

I guess being a fan of the Titans has got you thinking there isn't actually good QBs out there. Must suck not being able to distinguish talent on the field. Oh well.

Anything else up for discussion??

Luck or RGIII guys??

Before the season I liked to have a better season and career and I still feel that way. Griffin's play as of late hasn't been terrible but he hasn't got this team as competitive as they were in the beginning of the year. His year is looking like Cam's of last year. But he isn't turning it over like Newton did last year.

Anyone else agree?

Nobody drug you into anything, you made a few initial comments and that sprung the whole discussion. Also I never attacked you personally, I called your comments idiotic and stupid, not you. But yes I am done with this crap as well.

Looks like someone accidentally the whole thing :D

Finally we can drop the cutler talk.

49ers 34- Saints 14

The game had 6 picks and 6 forced fumbles. I was on the good end of the picks, he was on the good end of the forced fumbles. Saints pulled out to an early lead in the first quarter putting up the 14 points they ended with, had me very worried. After that they just couldn't get anything going, and the amount of picks thrown really shut them down.

Haha touché.

On my phone so sometimes I will skip a word. But I meant to write "Luck" would have a better season and career.
I'm playing the Ravens this week..has anyone taken over them yet?
Not yet. I PM'd the first guy on the waiting list yesterday, but never got a response. I'm about to PM the next person to see if he wants them. Hopefully I'll have someone for you soon.

Good game man. I'm thinking about putting Tebow in the starting lineup and just play ball control. lol i cant pass for shit no matter what QB i have

Titans - 45
Jaguars - 14

Well, all I can say for this game is that DarkTower stuffed my Johnson, but I injured his Cox.

After a wild start to the game that saw 28 points scored in the first 2 minutes of the game, the Titans defense was able to settle in and keep Jacksonville out of the end zone the rest of the game. The Jags front seven came to play though, and their focus seemed to be clearly on #28. DarkTower really forced me to throw the ball, and I was lucky that Jake Locker decided to have a good day. After having his first pass of the game dropped by Jared Cook Jr., Locker went on to complete his final 9 passes in a row. Cook rebounded as well, with 3 big catches. Locker ended up with 5 TD passes, each to a different receiver.

On the other side of the ball, MJD started off red hot, busting off an 80 yard run to start the game. At this point, I said "oh shit..." Thankfully, somehow the Tennessee defense remembered how to tackle and limited Jones-Drew to just 6 additional yards. Blaine Gabbert struggled, completing 3 passes for 22 yards, with 3 INTs. Some of this came in the 2nd half though when the Jags were trailing and were forced to the air a bit more.

And as mentioned earlier, Derek Cox was also injured after making a tackle, with what the game stated as being a "broken collarbone"). To me, this game was just a tale of two different quarterbacks (Locker's QB rating was a perfect 158.3, while Gabbert finished with a 0.0), and I could easily see the roles reversed in the rematch in week 17. GG, Brandon. Like I said, had it not been for Locker, I would have been screwed.

Titans
Jake Locker - 9-10, 272 yds, 5 TDs, 0 INTs
Chris Johnson - 22 att, 94 yds, 1 rec, 12 yds, 1 TD
Javon Ringer - 1 att, 21 yds, 1 TD
Jared Cook Jr. - 3 rec, 143 yds, 1 TD
Nate Washington - 2 rec, 71 yds, 1 TD
Kenny Britt - 2 rec, 37 yds, 1 TD
Kendall Wright - 1 rec, 9 yds, 1 TD
Jordan Babineaux - 4 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 INT

Jaguars
Blaine Gabbert - 3-10, 22 yds, 0 TDs, 3 INTs
Maurice Jones-Drew - 6 att, 86 yds, 1 TD, 2 rec, 22 yds
Paul Posluszny - 4 tackles
Daryl Smith - 4 tackles, 2 TFL
Dawan Landry - 2 tackles, 1 FF

Just played the joy of Troy and the Lions.

Overall good game as the Texans come away with the victory 27-14.

The Lions couldn't seem to get their offense going as he only looks to have 177 total yard with only 11 rushing yards.

He did some damage to me though and kept the explosive CJ SPILLER at bay with only 79 yards total ground offense!

GG man!

EDIT: How the hell is Mark Sanchez leading in AFC for QB! Lol

hey doc looks like u have improved this year big time. its good to see this league has worked for some people

Appreciate that brother! Im sitting at 7-4 i think! i just need N8 to lose! Lol

Happy Veterans Day to you sir!

Rams pulled off the W vs the Cards. Had a decent showing in our first game, but we had a disconnect. End result was pretty much the same, 2 score win, plenty of INTs on my end, and still not a great running game. I need to figure out SJax. My line is supposed to be solid in the run game.

Bill's get the win with there new Headcoach. GG snakemaster that truely could have gone either way. Both of our WR's kept dropping 3rd down converions and TD's.

Actually, it looks like both of our guys on the waiting list are passing on the Ravens (one no response...the other doesn't have the game yet). So, if you want them, they're all yours.
We'll have to wait and see the Bears eat alive the Texans but we'll get excuses like the Texans don't play well in prime time or something.
