What are your recommendations? I'm looking for an LCD flat panel HDTV around 32"-42" with an HD tuner for a decent price. This particular tv wont be used for gaming, but more for TV. Any suggestions from any trusted site would be great.

Or if you live in the Bay Area(San Jose Area), and local B&M that you can recommend would be great! Thanks!
Define decent price. My concept of decent price is apparently not that of the CAG Collective, so I need to ask.
I think he means the price of the boobs from your avatar...:D

Does 1080p matter to you? I'm assuming not if it's being used for TV mostly... well, and because it doesn't make much of a difference in this size range. Just wanna know if that's a requirement for you though.

no not really. It's not for me. My relatives have come over to our house and seen my parents 52" Aquos and now they want one...but in a smaller size. so no, I don't think 1080P matters.
somewhere between the 500-1000 range, give or take. Or if you can justify the price, then by all means woo me into buying that tv.
You can probably get a Syntax Olevia for the price range. They make pretty good LCD HDTVs for the money. They sell them at Fry's Electronics and Circuit, so go check them out. I picked a 32" Syntax Olevia for $750 before XMAS at Circuit City and love it, plus I've actually seen it recently on sale for lower.

I also hear good things about the Spectre brand LCD HDTVs they sell at Costco, plus they have a pretty liberal "no questions asked" return policy.

thanks, chac. I know now for a fact I don't need 1080p. that just jacks up the price for a TV that most likely wont be used for that feature anywho.

I have the OLEVIA 537H and it's a really nice 37" HDTV. It get's a lot of positve reviews at AVS forums especially considering the price. You can usually find it a Target.com for a decent price but you'll have to pay sales tax(look for free shipping or use a 10% off code: TGTSAVQ2)
Mwave.com has it for sale this week for 699.00. That's about $50 less than I paid for it in November.
Hope this helps.

Yeah, and if it's for TV exclusively well... no stations are even broadcast in 1080p nor will they be for the foreseeable future.

wah wah wah olevia wah wah wah

I'm pretty much sick of these threads because no matter how many options someone posts, people always end up buying the Olevia or the Hansspree

Compusa has an incredible 42 inch Plasma by LG for $1049, I saw it online, a Panasonic as well, though I prefer the LG.

Radioshack is selling this LG as well, since they don't carry it, you might get a manager's special on it. A Radioshack here sold one for $799, it was new and everything, great deal. They also had a 32 inch Panasonic.

Circuit City are open boxing and clearance their 2006 models. Lots of good display models and brand new TV's for half what they cost originally [another CAG bought a Panasonic 37 inch LCD for $800] That's my best advice, go to Circuit City and look at their CLEARANCE new TV's and their open boxes, you should get a $1600 for TV for under $1000 easily.

And you missed out on the beast, a 34 inch Sony HDTV tube for $600 this week..big heavy..but amazing for the price and best image quality hands down.

But you know what? I'm to the point of not caring anymore, you'll find an Olevia or Hannspree on Newegg or your local retailer for $549 and convince yourself it's an amazing TV, even though the image quality is crap and for $300-$500 more you'd get yourself a real TV.

Nah, musicnoteless thinks things through more than most. Didn't realize that LG's plasmas were that inexpensive now... personally, I don't like their plasmas all that much (perhaps Pioneer spoiled me), but it's worth considering.

Well, the Pioneers are always going to beat them, they are undisputed in plasmas, but LG's plasmas since around 2006 are a lot better than they used to be. Their 2007 models have 15000:1 contrast ratios, 2-3 HDMI inputs, and suffer from little to no burn in. Not near the Pioneers but better than a lot of Panasonic sets.

Hitachi has some new models too, don't know how good they are, but I've seen them advertised more often.

As for the LG's, it's really their 2006 stock that's cheap: 42 and 50 inch models around $1000, 32 inch models near $700, they are decent, 10000 to 1, the ones produced in late 2006 have 2x HDMI, and the image is a lot better than one would expect.

My favorite part of course is LG's TWO YEARS parts and labor warranty, with the way stores want to push extended service plans, having a 2 year warranty right out the box is one hell of a deal.

Sorry to thread jack, but i got a request from a friend.

He wants a ~30 inch HDTV, 1080i for ~300, maybe ~400.

Personally, I think he is crazy, but maybe someone here can prove me wrong. He wants it new aswell.

Well your friend should get an Olevia. He is crazy though if he expects something good. At 300-400, I don't think there's anything even halfway decent... definitely nothing in the 30 inch range.

30 inch Philips, Wal-Mart, HDTV, tube, $400 [Sanyo or Panasonic depending on stock]

Or JVC 30 inch Iart HDTV, tube, 2x HDMI, 3x component, scaler [480720/1080] for $500.

That or a reconditioned LCD in 27 inches, off brand.

So yeah, nothing halfway decent.

Dunno where all this specific knowledge on random TVs is coming from, but I'm starting to feel upstaged. And it hurts.

Samsung's are decent, but I'd try and step up to a Sharp if you can. IIRC, the TV with the 5000:1 contrast ratio had some issue where to obtain that ratio, stuff had to be artificially sharpened in the picture and that just created a mess... so it's probably not advisable to get that.

If someone finds a 30" Panasonic HD Tube set for $400, that's not a bad buy at all. I didn't know that some walmarts carried them though. And I've seen that JVC on display. Was nicer than I would have guessed. Also fairly good reports on it at AVSForum. But all the same, if I was ready to spend $500, I'd probably just go for the 34XBR970 at CC for $600. Also no interest and free delivery if you want it.

ive been looking for HDTVs as well and came across this set:

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?catg=535&item=354180&prDeTab=2&pCatg=5883#A

If you have a card at SAMS Club or Cosco then you're all set. Ive been reading up on this tv/brand all week and have read nothing but good things from CNet, HDTV forums (a few not just one) ...sure you get some bad reviews here and there but thats with all electronics now days.

I should be going to buy mine sometime this weekend or the first of next week.
