Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

When I was playing single player earlier today my Xbox gave my a cannot read disk error right at the end of a level when it was loading the next level. I took the disk out but it didn't have a single scratch so I put it back in and it ran just fine, but the game made me start the level over from the beginning.

Sounds like your drive may be starting to go. That's where mine started.
Thanks for the tips. Heli arrived a couple times, but then I'd get killed trying to make it there :bomb: Eventually got to it though.
I ended up laying in the grassy gap between the bumper cars and ferris wheel and sniped the hell out of them. Only trouble I had with it was if you get 2 grenades thrown at you at once, you're SOL.

Alright, so is the server still down or is it just my school's stupid firewall?? I cannot find any matches, it shows as no one online, and I can't conncect with invites.

Works fine for me.

Woot finally passed veteran mode! I need some help on the last bonus mission, so far i can only make it to the stairs then i die. anybody have a strategy to pass it?

Is there any trick to sniping?

It seems like whenever I have my crosshair on someone and fire they dont die. I have to end up hitting them 3-4 times before they actually die.

What I did was sprinted to the bathroom and knifed the guy quickly. I walked towards the two guys about to shoot me, staying in the middle so neither could see/shoot me. Then I went left and hit L and quickly put a few rounds into the guy at the doorway. Still walking forward, I tossed a flashbang towards the middle of the room (think right around the table/chairs in the middle) and immediately banked left before the doorway. As soon as the flashbang went off, I walked into the room and killed any guys in my way on the left side as I made my way through it.

I've noticed that if you keep moving forward and shooting the guys in your way, your team will sometimes move forward with you and kill the other guys before the flashbang wears off. It saves you time and bullets. I made sure to kill the guys just outside of the room, around the left and right corners. I got a flashbang ready and went all the way to the left, before the room with the hull breach. I tossed it somewhere towards the middle of the room, roughly to the right of the brown overturned bench-thing. Immediately, I made a beeline for that bench and went prone behind it, taking the opportunity to reload and have my squad move forward and kill almost everybody.

Made my way through the room and towards the stairs, usually having around 30 seconds left. I tossed a grenader into the room and went into the left doorway, taking out guys and hiding behind cover. If you're quick enough to have 30-35 left on the clock before this, you've got a fair amount of time to play with. Feel free to use another flashbang if needed, since there's more in the 2nd room upstairs, on the counter. I tossed a flashbang into the next room, killed whoever, tossed another, killed anyone left and ran forward. 2 final guys came around the corner, I just shot them both from the hip and continued sprinting towards the door.

I've noticed it gives you the same 4 or so seconds to shoot the guy, no matter what, even if you made it to the door with only a second or two to spare. Take your time and remember to aim down the pistol sight, you probably won't be accurate enough otherwise.

But, really, a lot of it is luck. Even with this exact strategy, I probably failed it 20 times before finally beating the level. Either the shotgun guy would nail me, or my grenade would miss one guy who would shoot me, or I'd catch a stray bullet, or my team would forget one guy who would shoot me in the back...you get the idea. But, it eventually worked for me.

Hmm. Can't seem to find a game. It's 3:30 AM, but that should not be a problem at all. No sarcasm either. This game's base is large enough to support hundreds of players at all hours.

You have to aim where they're going, like in real life.

As the post above said aim for where they are going, also aim for the chest or head.

On another note, wow am I disappointed in my school. Can't even play online since the firewall is blocking from connecting to the anyone, and the worst is it is only certain games. I know when I run the Connection Test I get the NAT as Strict. Damn school, you would think that for $24,000+ a year they could at least let me play Live.

Could always talk to the network admin. We had to do it when I was at Ferris too. Don't get real pushy about it, but generally if you bring the problem up, and ask for the couple of ports to be opened for your dorm/IP range it shouldn't be a huge issue.

Also, if you are playing in standard def try aiming for where the neck meets the torso. I notice that When the enemy isn't moving, and I'm not moving, headshots won't work half the time if I actually aim at the head. Not sure if it's a game thing or just due to the compressed pixel space.

Played a lot last night with some friends, got to level 34. Was undefeated in domination for 10 games straight. Can't remember the name of the map, since I have only actually played it once, but that boat map on domination is awesome. Don't really like how it is never played tho.

Yea that's what I figured I will end up doing in a couple weeks (I have a two week break starting tomorrow). I am assuming they can just unlock one port in my room. It sucks that they aren't here on weekends, although it was probably a sign from God to study for my finals, or just shoot the hell outta people on single player.

P.S. I just keep finding more and more people from MI in the CAG family. Halfbent did you go to EK?

Ya, I've tried that. There are times the guy is standing still. I aim for the upper part of the chest, fire, and nothing happens. I dont get the little X showing I hit them. It's annoying.

When the game goes from the post-game multiplayer scoreboard to the multiplayer lobby, does it go to a black screen, for a few seconds, where you can't hear anyone talk?

I'm trying to figure out if it's my console fucking up, because my disc drive is, like, 3,000 decibels when I play this game, and I've been getting disc read errors ever since I got my 360 back from the repair center.

Took me about an hour to get to level 8. I feel sorry for the fuckers who will get in my way once I unlock the M4, red dot, and silencer. :D

On a side note, they really increased the Juggernaut perk. Close range isn't that much of a problem but mid to long takes quite a number of bullets to take a guy down, even with Stopping Power.
Has anyone played that really small map that has a bunch of shipping containers and is square shaped. That is prolly the worst map ever created
The one with the hangers? I kinda like that one, some guy kept trying to be a sniper on top of that tanker truck. I may not get many easy kills but he provided a few :)
I find it a bit odd that there are no multiplayer acheivements.
Im glad all the achievements are gained in Single Player, all the incentive lies in muliplayer is completing challenges which gives people more points based on teh usage and kills of the gun. Putting achievements in the MP would have killed the whole feel for me, Halo 3 was a mess because of all those damn achievements could never enjoy a game where one person wasnt bitching about lost achivement points or trying to screw the system and your teamates all because of some gamerpoints.

Headquarters, on that map, is phenomenal.

I would pay $60 for that, alone.

Jesus, anyone actually complete Mile High Club on Veteran? That level is insane.

//edit//
yah! i got the achievement. damn that took a while.

I love that map, I got like 47 kills and over 1000 exp

I think you're right, one time out of 20 when I open my drive it refuses to open, but the Xbox thinks it's opening and is blinking green. I then have to manually press the close button. The drive then "closes" and then I'm able to open it.

That map gave me the best k/d ratio I've ever gotten in the game. 92-27.
