Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Gen. Discussion & Info

Anyone else think the LMG's are crazy unbalanced? I can snipe with the RPD, honestly the only down side to the weapons is that you run slow. But there just rifles with huge lips, RPD has the range to shoot across any map and drop people in 1-2 shots.
No one else sees the red dot right?
It's just on your screen?
Its not a laser pointer type site so no, it doesnt make a red dot on whatever your aiming at. The red dot is only in that little window on your gun.

Don't the pistols have laser sights available tho? Maybe Im thinking of RS Vegas?

Something has laser sights, as you can see them in single player mode, but only in night vision mode. Probably single player only.

I understand now that the red dot is only on the aiming reticule.
but didnt those guns in the single player actually have a laser sight in addition to the red dot.
Ah yes, just single player as I mentioned above.

I've been using the M16 w/ red dot w/ claymores, martydom and double tap.

Once i get 150 kills w/ it I move on. Dunno why i do this. I guess its for the challenges as the challenges do give you motivation to try different weapons.

Sarted finally improving my K/D ratio last night. ITs not hard to improve since its only .70.

As far as guns go, the M16 w/ red dot is pretty popular it seems. So is the MP5. Does anybody use a shotgun? I don't b/c I can never get close enough to somebody to kill them w/ it.
Does anybody use a shotgun? I don't b/c I can never get close enough to somebody to kill them w/ it.
Yeah, almost exclusively. I either do really well or really badly. Or somewhere in between.

Only in Shipment, and sometimes in Vacant when the HQ points are inside :D
The mini-uzi or AK74u are good in those spots too though.
The M16 is so easy to use...
Sure is.
Got to 150 kills with it, so I'm back to the AK.
I'm in it for the challenges really, more so than rank.

You see this is what is so brilliant about COD4's ranking/leveling up system. By compelting challenges, you get extra exp. pts which make you rank up faster so its a win/win scenario if you do what the game is designed to get you to do: Try different weapons out and play a good deal with each.

I've got my M4 marksman award, and almost have my AK47 and M16 marksman awards. Once I'm done Ill just use whatever I want to start working on the headshot challenges.

THe achs with the sniper rifle and shotty are probably goona kill my K/D ratio.

It's a nice quick boost of exp. to switch to something you haven't used and get some kills.

I swear everybody uses the m16 with the red dot. I would say probably 80% of the time that I get killed, I see the red dot on my head with the m16 blasting away.

Not me. Now Im using it to try and get all the marksman challenges done but initially I played with the m4 b/c i didnt like how the m16 did not have fully automatic fire.

If you are looking to level up quickly, play HQ or Sabotage. I probably get around 500 points in Hardcore, but long matches like HQ/Sabotage you can easily get 1k.

I really like the AK alot too. It has awesome penetration (I have killed people many times through walls with it) and stopping power but it kicks like a bitch.
How do you switch the rate of fire on some of the guns? I never live long enough to figure it out
Can't, the rate of fire is based upon which weapon you choose.
i see a lot of p90 users, even on open out door maps. anyone use the g3? just unlocked it last night.
G3... Sucks... in my opinion :p

P90 is just awesome, thats why you see it so much. lol

G3 is a long range rifle, really crap for CQC its ok but there really isnt any good reason to ever use it in my opinion. P90 is just a great gun its accurate enough for medium distance, hits decently hard, crazy fire rate, huge clip. Probably 3rd best gun in the game

I like the G3. I think the gun is effective depending on how you use it. Optimal perks would be 3x Stun grenades, Stopping Power, and Steady Aim. Use stun grenades to even the balance of the gunfight considering you have a single shot rifle, Stopping power also is great becuase you already have great accuracy and getting a few well placed shots from a distance will put someone down, and Steady aim definitely helps in the CQC if you have a quick enough trigger finger. But like most games of COD4, you have to change your weapons based on the situation. If the G3 doesn't seem to be working well for me that match, I'll move to an SMG or LMG pretty quickly. To me, it comes down to the M16 or G3 if you are looking for raw accuracy. But I also like the M4 with an ACOG Scope.

I had a pretty decent game last night playin with a reddot AK47 w/ claymores and stoppin power. I won my first three encounters to get a UAV up, then had someone set off a claymore and got a kill that way. Needing only one more for an air raid I camped and sure enough picked off a stragler to get 5 kills.

I sent the air raid to drop right over the headquarters and got two kills. Up to 7, I called in a chopper which did some pretty good damage since its on Bog. I finished 31 kills and 18 deaths which is damn good for someone with a .66 K/D ratio. I suck I know. The bitch of it is that I think IIRC we actually lost that game.

Heh doing better than I would PittPizza my K/D ratio in Halo3 is around .61 I could only imagine it would go down in COD4 :/.

The G3 is a good gun for maps like BOG. It depends on your play style though. I like the G3 because I am not a run and gun kind of guy usually. So I like to take my time and be patient Most of the time I wonder about a predetermined path and look at hot spots for the bad guys.

I like the G3 but I can not wait until I get the M14!!!

Dammit, It takes forever for me to find a game, I dont know what the problem is, maybe its my connection or maybe its not, I downloaded the burnout demo just fine

Everytime I try and connect to a game it takes like 8 to 10 minutes to find a game and even then the game is laggy as hell and has a Halo-like playable atmosphere where it takes 30 thousand clips to kill one guy at point blank range and then have him run up to you and knife you in the face.

Are you downloading anything while you try to play? Using Bittorrent or a p2p program? I have a friend that made that mistake one time.

Me too. I love the M14, but have not unlocked it yet. I am currently at rank 45. Everytime I walk over one in MP, I am sure to pick it up and use it.

Just beat Mile High Club on veteran. I got to the hostage part 4-5 times just to hit the hostage or not get a headshot on the terrorist(allegedly). One time I got to the hostage with 12 seconds to spare somehow just to fail. But I finally got it and I'm glad.

I played through the campaign on veteran first, same with Halo 3(legendary solo).

Lets get some posts about the best worst perks.

I kind of liked eavesdropping when I first started using it. Then I played three lobbies in a row against teams speaking a foreign language.

The Longer Sprinting Perk is one of my favorite perks. In objective based game modes like HQ, where its a mad dash to the capture point, that perk can win you the game. I also use it for 'roaming' type classes where I want the ability to quickly get anywhere on the map. Its definitely a part of my stealth class.

My favorite perk would have to be the 2X Claymores. Those things are the greatest. If I want to hole up in a building, they watch my back. If Im roaming, I justs set them up around the corner, or at the top of staircases in well travelled areas. In HQ or S&D they are great to protecting the objective. Theres just soo many ways to use them. I love me some claymores.

I haven't played MP in the longest time, but is there Friendly Fire with Claymores? Or are they only triggered by enemies? I seem to recall seeing icons on screen to mark them, but I always walked around them, just in case.
Yeah I love claymores too. It seems though that sometimes ppl run right through them wtih out dieing.
That does happen sometimes, but I try to place em where they get triggered when the enemy is still a few feet away from them, giving them the best chance to kill.

For example, if your gonna place one around a corner, dont put it as close to the corner as you can, if you do the enemy may run right thru/past it. If you put it around the corner but back about 8-10 feet, its almost guaranteed to kill. Same thing with putting them at the top of a flight of stairs, I dont put it right at the top, I put it back about 6-8 feet from the top of the steps.

Basically you dont want the enemy to be right on top of it when it triggers. You want them to be a few feet in front of it.

I see alot of poorly placed claymores when I play.

Can you believe that I have over 4 days playd online and there are perks I have never tried? Some of the lamer ones you mentioned. Ive never tried eavesdropping. And since I dont snipe, I never tried the steady breathing one either. Theres a few others Ive never used as well. Imo some perks are just soo good, that its hard to justify using anything else in that slot for most classes.
I put it back about 6-8 feet from the top of the steps.
So you're that guy...Bastard! ;)

I like the Iron Lungs perk for when I am sniping, it really does help I can sometimes get 2-3 quick kills while using that one. The Sprint is one of those that I use off and on, but isn't a must.

Love Juggernaut and Overkill though.
