Call of Duty: Black Ops - Gen. Discussion & Info - OUT NOW
Hacking a video game doesn't, hacking a server for a video game would. I wish you'd actually read what you're replying to.
I did read it, but you made it sound like game hackers got punished all the time. And as well as that, even if hacking game servers was something punishable, how often do hackers get caught or prosecuted? There are guys who do much worse then hacking video game servers and they never get close to being caught. I suspect the "Cyber Crimes" area is a little lacking when it comes to actually catching hackers.

When it comes to protecting their intellectual property, you can bet they're going to do their best to preserve the integrity of their servers. Especially on a new release game estimated to bring in several hundreds of millions of dollars.

You can quit trying to spin my posts to feed whatever need for attention you have, I don't see how you can even connect the dots that brought you to where you originally thought I was.

Let me close this little squabble, because it really is meaningless to the topic at hand, but since I know the topic fairly well, I can add at least 2 cents.

TKR - you are sort of right....if they are fucking good, they don't get caught. Note the key there, fucking good. Not good, not a script kiddie, but down right know what they are doing from recon to covering their tracks to having a ton of patience.

Now, the reality is most people are not that good OR they have inside access to the system. That is either they are an insider or have someone on the inside.

The questions really are how many times are exploitations not reported or washed under the carpet; how many times are people caught and no one ever knows? I ask that because almost any time something major is hacked, people tell....why? Freud can answer that better than I can.

My point: you don't know what you don't know. Heck, I could be hacking Mad right now for all anyone knows....but if he never discovered it, did I really do it?

What I would wager on though is that Activision will probably have sufficient protection in place to prevent most of this. Where it is/was different with MW2 is that we had Mad hosting and I kept getting a crappy ping and all it would take is a script kiddie to take him out from hosting or at least make it unplayable on his system (heck, hosts could've been doing that all the time). That scenario will be highly unlikely in BO.

I agree with this. It is most likely that Activision has done a much better job of hack protection then Infinity Ward did. As for exploits, I am a bit worried considering how many under-the-map and other glitches there were in WaW that took forever to get patched, but I have a feeling that while there will be glitches/exploitable things they won't be as gamebreaking as MW2 was.

Also I think Black Ops is going to be a much bigger release than WaW was.. hopefully they're quick to fix any gamebreaking issues.. of course either way Bobby Kotick KNOWS we'll buy his games no matter what right?

I would know if you hacked me, I'd feel it in my soul, you dirty Hustler fan.

There already is a shit ton of script kiddies in MW2. They keep uploading excessive traffic to me when I host because I start lagging as the host, fortunately they fail to realize I have FiOS and they usually get themselves booted first since my download rapes their upload, although occasionally it takes out several of our party as well. Toxic was hosting one night and received some kind of DOS attack, knocked him out of hosting and completely offline. But that's why I play through DMZ'd through my PC proxy(to view and log network traffic if necessary)which is behind a firewalled router.

WaW was a rush job, it looked terrible and I'm hoping they at least ganked the IW engine from MW2 for Black Ops because the engine for WaW was terrible. I have some high hopes for this game because it will bring some older MW2 CAGs back out of the woodwork and for that I'm hoping this game smacks it out of the ballpark.

One note on comparing this to WaW - Treyarch was given 6 months start-to-finish on WaW and 2+ years for BO. I have much higher hopes for BO.
Just a little warning, since you hacked yourself above Kefka on the MW2 leaderboards, I'm sure he'll be on the look out for you. Provided he ever gets over WoW.
Haha, I didn't want that lobby to do that for me. It did it on its own. And yeah, I'm really late replying.

MW2 made me not want to play fps ever again. It wasnt just gameplay, but lack of control on game mode. However in light of these MP details, I believe my beloved headshot and shot gun only game mode in sabotage is back (My buddies and I nicknamed it rugby mode). I really want Treyarch to knock this one out of the park.
The skinny:
-Split screen online play is in Black Ops.
-Custom game modes (that you can save for later!)
-In game friends list. If its like uncharted, PSN is set. If it is like MGO, we are screwed.
-Able to join games in progress. Also party leader mode (follow the leader to their choosing of game type).

Little-Known Facts: Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer – PlayStation Blog

Few rumors, is that there is a "no perks/attachments" game mode. Since this game is coming from Treyarch, I know this will have better maps than MW and MW2. IW maps were too circular and small.

I agree, I never understood why IW made the maps so small. Although I doubt we'll ever see maps as big as they were in BC2 from Dice, hopefully they'll be a little bigger.

From what I played of WAW the maps were pretty much the same general size and structure. A lot of hate on IW but it's only because the studio fell apart that really put the last nail in MW2's coffin, they were pretty awesome up until that debacle.

God damnit. I made a great post about MP maps and game modes. Stupid browser didn't stay logged in, so I lost my post.

However, I got a bunch of game modes ideas (most that involve 1 life per round) that I can't wait to make.

Lets get that Official CAG Black Ops PSN list going! Get on updating that first post Raistlin.

I made a revision. Let me know if there's anything you'd like to add. I could put in a list of all the weapons, but that seems like a bit much.

No need to list weapons.

I just put together a spreadsheet (copied Option's from the PSN fighting game topic).

PSN- Black Ops MP sign ups!

If you can link it to the front page that was be great. Everyone just sign up and fill in the spaces (there are 7 sections to fill out). Also remember this game is going to have ZOMBIES!

Nice front page, very informative!

You probably aren't aware but the MW2 CAG clan will pretty much move laterally over to Black Ops. I'm putting a post together now so we'll have a starting point but considering most of us already play together, it's going to be easy enough to field full game nights.

It's a Gen Discussion thread, I'm not about to pollute it beyond that and since I'm effectively organizing the current MW2 group, another thread will be made.

For those of you that ordered this through GameStop, they are planning on having a midnight launch at most locations so if you pre-ordered or that's where you plan to buy it you're in luck.

On a side note, Sleight of Hand Pro does not work on sniper class weapons. This was Treyarchs way of dealing with quick sniping. I added this info to the first post. Also added the hacker pro perk to the Perks list with a description.

If anyone knows of a deal on the Hardened Edition for the PS3, PM me. I really want this game now, kicking myself for waiting as long as I did to check out the details about what's new.

I know, I'm finding it impossible to find a deal on the Hardened online. I may have to find a midnight launch or show up at 10am @ Best Buy to see if they have any Hardeneds.

I was going to hold off completely from getting this like I did WaW since I enjoyed CoD4 so much and kept playing it. I figured I'd do the same with MW2 and didn't really look at anything until just recently and it looks like it is going to be awesome. I'm very intrigued at the lack of stopping power and it seems like they really listened to some fans about what to do with this game and it appeals to me a lot.

I figured I'd get the Hardened Edition since I missed out on the zombies having never played WaW but it sold out on Amazon and I couldn't pass up the free 200points/$20 preorder deal. I figure I can always download the zombie maps later as that would be the whole reason I'd want Hardened other than the cool metal case. I got the Hardened Edition of MW2 and Call of Duty Classic was available for download a few weeks later so I think it's a safe bet the maps will be for Black Ops as well.

Can someone explain the co-op features of this game to me? First I heard there were none. Then I heard there was a training system with bots that could be co-op. Most recently, I've heard there is a co-op only specific campaign which I find hard to believe and haven't read any official details about.

I'm confused as to how this game is less than a week away and co-op details are lacking or confusing. Probably a big hint that co-op will be lame. Would love it if it were just the same as in W@W.

Thanks! Will probably buy the damn thing anyway. . . . :)

PS - I'm ignoring the zombies mode of course.

From what I understand is that there is co-op splitscreen multiplayer, Spec Ops-like co-op play but not co-op campaign. I could also be completely wrong but that's what I've seemed to collected in my head.

The Co Op is the Training grounds where you can play multiplayer maps and gametypes against bots.

I wouldn't consider that "co op" in the normal sense as it would just be split screen with bots. Same goes for mulitplayer, you can do split screen online.

The only actual co operative game mode in the normal sense of the word is Zombie mode.
youre doing it wrong.
Ha! Yeah, I probably worded that poorly. I guess what I am trying to say is "I love zombies! But what other co-op modes and features will I see in Black Ops?"

So can you "do it right" and answer that? :)

zombie mode has split screen. there isnt any spec op missions in black ops. thats a modern warfare deal. just like modern warfare doesnt have zombies.

the other stuff was already answered i assume. with the online bots and online matchplay in split screen as well.

the kill dot. I could see the sham wow dude pimping that on tv. I actually never thought of that before, but its a marketing genius way to make money, selling to little douches who need to enlarge their e-pen15. Along the lines as drop shot controllers, lag switching packets, etc...
i'm just going to use a permanent marker on my lcd.
That's what Mad probably uses to hack the system

Well, this would pretty much explain why quickscopers are exceedingly more accurate as of late. It's not that they're good at hitting the buttons, they're just completely lame.

Has anyone heard if the launch party on the 8th at GameStop is going to have door prizes? It'd be pretty lame if it's just guys standing around waiting 3 hours just to pick up the game. If that's the case I'll wait until the last minute to show up. :hot:

they usually do something mildly entertaining. my friend told me that our gamestop was going to have live music and food but who knows. live music could just mean music being played from a cd player with speakers lol. last big release like this they did give us mountain dew live wire and chick-fil-a :D
