Think cod has hit it's peak and it'll die down like the music game business did for activision which is why I think they're milking cod for everything they can, while they can.
While I'm not a big fan of this installment, people have been saying COD "has hit its peak" for, what, HOW many years now? I'm guessing at some point someone will be right, but this is a franchise that has basically become the defining one in terms of sales for this generation and there's going to have to be a real, major shift over time for that to change.
The music games felt like a fad to me more than anything else, drawing in a lot of "casual" gamers almost like how the Wii sold like hotcakes for a few years. Sure casual games play COD too but it's not really equivalent IMO because it appeals to the hardcore gamer as well. Look at the sales numbers from last year or, heck, last week. COD is going nowhere -- and even if there's a drop-off, why would they suddenly stop making games? So they sell 5 million copies instead of 6 million next year...that's not profitable for them?
Frankly I don't even think one game a year is even "milking" it...multiple releases in a year would be. I just want to see better MP maps and a better campaign than MW3, which is something Black Ops had in both departments. As disappointed as I am, I'm still going to get more use out of this game than most and I predict next year's game will be received better than this one. Maybe all the behind the scenes developer issues trickled down to the final product this time.
