Can I copy VHS to my computer ?

I hope this is the right forum for this.
I'm wondering about converting my VHS tapes over to DVD. I'm getting a DVD burner for my comp, and I seem to remember seeing an adapter that lets you record VHS into your computer hard drive. Can anyone tell me what these are called, how well they work, and possibly link to anywhere that sells them?

i believe there are video cards with av inputs.

i dont knwo for sure but im intrested in the answer because id like to back up my old mst3k collection on dvd.

Ya, there are video cards w/ AV inputs but I've never heard of anyone converting VHS to digital... but I don't see why it couldn't be done

All you need is a video capture card, you can get one off ebay for 5-15 bucks easy, it has AV jacks, you just hook your vcr up, and it should include software to rip it.

I think this is what you're talking about.

There are tons of video capture devices. If putting a new card in your computer is inconvenient then there are plenty of ways to do it through USB as well. Any consumer electronics store should have at least a couple choices on hand.

yes like the posters above said, get a video capture card. but dont get one that sits outside and connects thru usb because ive heard a lot of problems with that cause usb doesnt have enuf power to transfer all the information required in a video (and audio). the best solution would probally b one that sits inside ur comp on a pci slot. or if thats not possible for any reason u could also try one that sits outside but connects thru firewire which i think is suppose to have better speed (not 100% on this, correct me if im wrong).

i have usb one and it works great....never had a problem with it...the ones that tend to be pci usually just capture video but no audio

Any chance you got yours online, or at least a link so I can see which one it is?
