The first time I fought the final boss, at the third part, he was almost dead and the system crashed. Now, 20 minutes ago, I tried again. Three buttons broke on not just one but both of my motherfucking controllers.

yeah... wtf?

My PS2 and controllers have been perfectly working for years, and all of a sudden at the final motherfucking boss, everything fucks up.

I need to see what happens at the end! BUT IT IS 12:46 AM AND ALL THE STORES ARE CLOSED! I CANNOT GET A NEW CONTROLLER!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bloody hell...

Just as the PS3 is coming out, your perfectly fine PS2 starts showing problems. How convenient for... Sony.

The only part I really struggled with on God of War was towards the end...
when you're in Hell and you have to climb up past all those stupid blades. I had to get someone else to do it for me :(

It took me 6 hours to beat the final boss, no joke. I beat the game all sunday and monday the first week it was out. then tuesday came around and I played the final boss from noon until 6 PM. It was worth it though.
You mean the Hades level? That's the only part of the game which I hated...
Yeah, I think so. I've been wanting to go back and replay that game, but that part keeps me from wanting to doing so.

Meh, just skip the end. the last part of the game drove me from being kind of bored with the game to kinda hating it. I've never been so close to breaking a controller.

the part where you have to protect your family and the last boss are, without a doubt, completely cheap. the family scene because was all luck and the whole fighting game set up for Ares was random as hell too...GoW was at it's best as a platform/puzzle/action game, why the hell change it to a genre that this dev team obviously sucks at?

Aw man, that Ares fight really pissed me off. I spent a good 30-40 minutes playing it and finally kicking some ass when my ps2 froze right when i won. Needless to say, my apartment was full of colorful language that night.

I hated the final boss to the game too. I'm relatively good at action games, but can't mash buttons fast for the life of me. It took me a good couple hours to beat that sonuvabitch. I didn't care for the Hydra in the begining either. The minotaur was decent, but I really can't understand why people say the bosses in that game are so good. Actually, the whole game is pretty reptitive and gets boring towards the end. It was fine as a rental, but nothing more.

It took me an hour to beat the first set then I was feeling pretty good until I realized there was a second one.:bomb:

Everyone says it's so cinematic and deep but it's superficial. It is entirely inexcusable for a 3D adventure game that has jumping puzzles to not have a fully rotatable camera. I thought the violence was gratuitous and I'm a DMC fan. The bossfights are somewhat epic but the button mashing technique is stupid. Go read any interview of the creator of the game and see what a jackass he is.

Warning: Don't check red orbs after you defeat the God of War.

I feel your pain as I had to beat Ares a second time to take my throne.

btw I couldn't even play God of War when I had my Phat PS2 so I had to shell out $50 more to upgrade.

Yeah, same here. Game froze during the third part of the final battle, after my 20+ restarts of the battle. Ugh.

The first and second part of the battle wasn't too bad for me...beat them on the first or so try, really. Just the last part...

the 3rd part was hard just because it was whole new controls with a new weapon. It took awhile to figure out good combos for that new sword.

Finally got the controllers working...

I think my dumbass freind spilled something on them.

Still haven't replayed the final battle, though, because I am so into Shadow Man. THAT GAME IS AWESOME! I can't belive I hadn't heard about it until last week.

I HATED that part too. Other than that, I didn't have any real trouble through the game.

Overall, I loved the game. It appears I'm not the only one who became quite frustrated with certain levels (i.e. Hades). Damn, there were a couple of tough levels in that game.:bomb:

Hades was easy for me.

The only thing I every had a problem with was being in a large group of enemies and not being able to see my character...

Awesome game, though.

I kind of agree. I mean, it's a very well presented game, but I thought the control only came across as well as it did because they never really pushed it to the limit. You could pretty safely rely on just a few effective attacks for most of the game, and when you finally got to a place when they really needed to be super-responsive (the post-game endurance trials) ... well, they just weren't up to the task. Not as cheap as Ninja Gaiden, but not as crazy-precise as DMC3.

i didnt jave any trouble with the game at all. true the HADES level sucked ass but ithought thae fact of the pandoras boxring and greekmytholigy was so cool i didnt see really anything wrong with it. i already preorderednumber 2 i cant wait.

Wow, the final battle was so easy it was almost anti-climatic...

I picked it up and beat it first try (all three stages) after not having played in almost a month.

I actually didn't mind the Hades part at all.

The final boss battle, on the other hand, pissed me off to no end. I had him so close to death several times and yet each time he mounted a huge comeback to defeat me. After a few hours I finally beat it. That fight is pissing me off now just thinking about it.

This game was easy all around to me. It had a few frustrating moments, like Hades I guess (I just have to explore every inch of a level) or Ares (I liked the two giants duking it out but not the biggest fan of the tug-o-war health meter). Sucks that you guys had your PS2s freeze on you. Only time I've ever spent more than an hour on a boss battle was in fucking SHINOBI. OMG HELL! That last boss changed my gaming abilty forever I swear. I never had problems beating a boss since that.

I've played a bunch of other action games that are harder and this one was pretty damned easy. I never had trouble trying to figure out where Kratos was in relation to his surroundings (i figured his flaming chaos blades or giant purple sword were enough but I guess not). And for 95% of the platforming the camera was always where it needed to be. There were those instances where I was like "Drat, I can see it but it's kind of out of view" but I got around it. Nothing that really held the game back.

Although combat was limited (no mixing weapon combos), I just chalked that up to first time experience with the genre. I mean when you are doing something silly like comparing the combat of GoW to Ninja Gaiden or DMC3 then I guess it would look kind of lame. I mean Team Ninja was making fighting games before Ninja Gaiden. Do you think that they'd have too much trouble making an action game? DMC3 is the third game in the series (with a sequel before it sucking ass) so it should be that much better than the original or any new game that comes out. Plus, GoW is more than just action as some of you have stated (while a game like DMC3 thrives off of the action).

It's admirable that you want to consider every game on its own merits, but I don't know if it really makes sense in this instance. Ninja Gaiden and DMC are GOW's direct peers. If you can't compare the three, what games CAN you compare? Experience in different genres aside (making fighting games doesn't mean you're an expert at action games: see "Death by Degrees."), Ninja Gaiden was Itagaki's first action game, too. And yes, GoW is more than just action ... and those were generally the uninspired parts: the column of blades, some box puzzles ("yay!"), etc.

*cricket*

Eh good point. And I hate how when a game designer gets so popular that the rest of his team's experience no longer matters. It may have been Itagaki's first action game but there were at least another 49 people involved who must have had experience. But back to what you were saying...

You have a point about comparing the three. :whistle2:/ I just don't want GoW to be remembered as the American wannabe japanese action title. Lol I forgot about Death By Degrees. Damn Namco blows chunks at action fighting games.

Speaking of GoW. I started playing it again in God mode (which isn't too bad, cept for everything kills you in 3-5 hits). It's still so much fun fighting the bosses.

Well, to be fair, it's not like even Itagaki seems to remember that anyone besides Itagaki worked on any of those games either. But I really don't know what the groups' previous experience was. I'm sure you're in the same boat as me.

I wouldn't worry about that. As far as I'm concerned, GoW was a much more playable game than Ninja Gaiden, and it's sure going to see a sequel before NG, too.
I HATED that part too. Other than that, I didn't have any real trouble through the game.
David Jaffes even admits in an EGM interview that that particular part of the game is indeed "broken" and was alot more difficult and frustrating than it should have been.

Ares only took me like 15 minutes if I remember correctly.

I actually struggled on one of the previous bosses. It had been a while since I had been in the room he shows up in -- I only played when my wife was watching -- and I totally forgot about the environmental weapon, which is the only way to hurt him. I battled that bastard for 30 minutes straight to no avail, until I finally saw there was that stairway up in the foreground. Argh!

lol i thought you were going to complain about the kratos clone battle on god mode but yeah i had troubles with god of war on my ps2 as well mostly it would freeze up in the worst possible moments. but the controller thing has never happened to me at all unless i threw it or stomped on it or something.

anybody have any tips for beating Ares in he final form, i've spent a good 3 fucking hours just on this form, and he keeps fucking hitting me no matter how i approach this bullshit. This game was insanely fun until this fucking last boss battle, so fucking cheap. :bomb:

piece of shit, i finally beat it, i have to say that's worse than the last boss in DOA4 in form of cheapness, fuck that last boss. piece of shit.
Meh, just skip the end. the last part of the game drove me from being kind of bored with the game to kinda hating it. I've never been so close to breaking a controller.
Until I reached Hades, I thought this was one of the best games for the PS2. After an hour or two of climbing up the spinning blades, my feelings started to change. Then I reached the family scene. I spent 2 hours on it (hard mode) and couldn't do it. I casually got up, ejected the disc, put it in the case, and added the game to my Ebay stack. I never want to see this game again. I enjoy a challenge, but this was ridiculous. I have better games to waste my time with.

It has amazing graphics, cool music (which can get really loud and abnoxious at times), nifty gameplay, and an interesting story. However, it's like the developers had absolutely no idea how to proceed in the game after you find Pandora's box. It's like the game was originally finished at that point, but then someone pulled in a totally different developer team to add the rest. I just wanted it to end.

I cried and broke a controller and punched a hole in my wall during the Hades blade part. Then during the final boss battle, which imo, was terrible compared to the rest of the game, I broke another controller. It was a fun game but I'm gonna wait for GoW2 to be cheaper before I get it.

i have to say I loved every single moment of the game except for the final final battle. Nothing really pissed me off. The whole blade part was a pain but not impossible. Just that fucking last boss ruined everything. Can't wait for the second one though lol.

I didn't even want to try Hard mode. I had a few buddies in the dorms last year who spent literally a week trying to beat the Kratos clones section on God mode. They just left the PS2 on for a solid week, and each would take turns a few times a day trying to beat it. I bet when as well said and done, they probably spent close to 15 hours before they finally beat it. I remember saying I'd never heard more swearing in a week.
I didn't even want to try Hard mode.
I jumped straight into hard difficulty so I could get most of the unlocks with the first try. Most of the game was actually pretty easy, with the occasional ridiculous battle.

I finally fired up my God Mode save again the other day. I'm hoping to finish before II comes out. I hadn't played since April of '05. lol... Funny thing, God Mode doesn't seem as hard as it did when I first worked on it. It's definitely a challange, but it seems just about right this time around. Maybe my game skillz0rz have improved in the last two years?

Finally beat God Mode this afternoon. The second phase of the the final boss sequence was a fucking bitch--the part between the two Ares sequences. Probably took me about 30 tries. =\

I think my e-penis just became about four inches larger. *flexes*

the first time i played god of war the game would freeze up on me at the worst ffuckin times. i think the first series of god of war games had problems or bugs or something. some people said it was due to the age of your ps2 but ive had my ps2 for over 4 or 5 years so it couldnt be that. i recently bought a GH version of god of war and havent had one problem in that regard so im inclined to think it was the games. maybe they missed a few bugs trying to get it out on time.

as far as beating the game good luck especially on god mode the last 3 battles are damn near impossible on god mode especially the second part all luck right there.

and i hate to take pleasure on yous guys pain but its good to know i wasnt the only one about to have a scanner moment over that damn kratos multiple clone battle. that part had to be fucked up or something because im way better at that game now and that part is still kicking my ass. the only reason i won was on luck and even worse you should be able to use the special costumes on God mod but like the cheap bastards they are you can only use them on the lesser modes. using the hades armor on god modewould have been so sweet.

I liked the game a lot, but I was thinking the exact same thing as many of you on the last boss (wtf at the new weapon!)

The whole last 3 bosses took me about an hour to finish, and there was much cussing involved, but I knew that if I was going to attempt Ninja Gaiden, I would have to conquer God of War without smashing the controller.

I only threw it once, dammit!

Finally finished GOW in God Mode. Also finished the Challenge of the Gods. Just for the heck of it.. I tried the Challenge of the Gods again and it was pretty simple. Now time to wait for GOW II to drop in price... :( Time for some Dairy Bastard...
