This is speculation and more than a bit cheesy, but CC has advertised Skate will be in stock on [strike]Tuesday[/strike] Wednesday with their in by 2pm or $20 gift certificate guarentee. Word on the street is that Skate launch has actually been moved to Thursday for some reason and will arrive on friday. Link to proof beflow.

Chances seem reasonably good to me that they'll have no idea about the launch date move and just hand you a gift card. On the other hand if they have a sign posted resinding the offer, I'd bet if you came in with a copy of the circular and threw a fit that they advertised it you might get "lucky".
Just looked at the ad, it says Skate will be released on wednesday
Yup, and theres no mention of a date change on the skate website.

Can anyone upload a copy of the ad please? I couldn't find it in the back threads. I was going to bring it with me incase they hassle me about it.

The ad is online at Circuit City's website and once you go to the store, they will have ads there also

The reason why you couldn't find it is because we don't normally show pics from the ad when they post about them early.

This is a link to the Weekly Ad on www.circuitcity.com and it states that Skate should be in by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Everybody hit up all your local CCitys at 2PM Weds! Too bad they'll probably retract the deal since CC lawyers lurk here now

CC will find a way to weasel out of this. They almost always do and every time they offer this, we have a bunch of pissed off people and YMMV.

I think it's been stated before that this only applies if it's something on their end, not the publisher's.

So if a release date gets moved back, it's null and void.

Same deal applies to DK Jungle Climber for the 11th. Gamestops website changed the release date for this game to 9/24/07 so possibly another $20 gift card can be had from this.

If I lived closer to a CC, I'd be there in a heartbeat. It's pretty much every CAGs duty to attempt to take advantage of this if they're within like 5 miles of a CC. Do it for Speedy1961.

I've never actually done the "in by 2pm gurantee". How do you guys do it? Walk up to an associate and ask them for the gift card or what?

Ive done it before with Forza 2, a buddy and I drove to 3 stores before we finally found 1 copy. Ended up with a copy of Forza 2 and the Outfit (for free becuase of another offer) and $100 in gift cards for $64 after tax.

Go straight to the customer service counter and ask about the game. From my experiences, they usually have release day games there or still back in the storeroom.

people on slickdeals thread said they called CC and since its a official release date change it changes to that 2pm that day..

I'm a little behind on things.

What happened to Speedy1961? He used to do the ads, but is now in some trouble?
I send in my sisters if two college girls can't get a gift card then there is no hope for any one else
send them to my house, ill have a couple gift cards on hand

He's getting sued by Circuit City for posting the ads early. So any damage you can do to CC is much appreciated. Many CAGs have stopped shopping there completely because of it, myself included. We all just PM CC prices at other stores. Might be a bit more effort, but I think it's for the principle.

I'll give this a shot, if it doesn't happen, meh.

Thanks for the info.

I'll give that gift card offer a shot as well.

Speedy was a fun guy--I still have his Star Trek GIF saved.

Still going to give it a shot w/ my local stores, however.

It's for that very reason why women are worth keeping around. I have a whole bullpen of them that I keep just in case I need to change a YMMV deal into a sure thing.

He's actually being SUED?!? For what? I mean what did he do that's illegal?

Between that and finding out CC is red, I'm done with them (and the firing everyone thing, and Divx 10 years ago...)

He leaked the PS3 price drop. Basically, Circuit City was under a confidentiality agreement with Sony. Any one Circuit City shared the ad early with was also under a confidentiality agreement. However Speedy was getting the ads, someone was violating this. Speedy himself probably did nothing wrong, but it is the only way they can find the leak. They likely had to pay Sony for breach of contract (Sony was furious), or they will if they don't make some effort to find out how it is happening and put a stop to it. If neither CC nor Sony does something about it, the other retailers will not just stand by and let Circuit City go unpunished.

And I can't stand the ignorance around here asking about "how were they harmed?!" It isn't about them (CC). It harms Sony directly and that's why Sony forces confidentiality agreements that will harm the retailer (CC). Sony did not want the news getting out early because they didn't want sales of the PS3 to slow down before the price drop. The one responsible for it (Circuit City) is responsible for slower sales at ALL retailers and that gives the other retailers reason to be pissed if Sony doesn't hold Circuit City accountable. Any informed sales in this period would have likely gone to Circuit City for their extra 10% of the difference after the price drop. This gives them an unfair advantage against the other retailers that are still sworn to secrecy. I'm sure the agreement ensures that the consequences are far worse than breaking a street date.

As much as I hate to say it, Circuit City's only crime was in allowing the leak in the first place. Though I believe Speedy did nothing wrong (he doesn't work for them and likely agreed to nothing), they have every right to do what they are doing. As far as they know, he is someone that they regularly share with and he is someone who has agreed not to share company secrets and so they MUST explore this.

simple thing is if the stores wanted these ads out a week before they would release them a week before. At the paper if anyone leaks anything the newspaper will now turn them over to the police. I guess they made it a crime or something now ..

around thanksgiving it said

ANYONE LEAKING AD INFO WILL bE FIRED ON THE SPOT ........

went in last week and it says

anyone leaking ad info will be fired and arrested

no clue how they can do that unless they changed state laws

Good luck to anyone trying to get this to work. Just try to get their 24 minute pickup guarantee to work. I placed the order online the night before and it still took 22 minutes to get my item when I got to the store. Now this was after the store had been open for 2 hours. Of course they weaseled their way out of the guarantee. Every employee (even the manager) gave me an answer that fully contradicted what their guarantee states.
Well, it sounds like Slick Deals already tipped them off. Ha ha. If I didn't have to work, I'd try it.
After what I happened to Speedy I imagine someone at CC has already been tipped off by reading this post. I'm sure they're continuing to monitor this site....

I wouldn't be surprised if they have signs on the door as we all walk in saying the release date has changed.

like others have said CC will also know about the delay. All they need to do is post a sign saying there is a change in the ad and they dont have to give you anything.
All they need to do is post a sign saying there is a change in the ad and they dont have to give you anything.
Agreed. Not only that, they always have in their ad near the $20 gift card section a disclaimer about it being subject to release date and CC not being responsible for release date changes. This will only be YMMV if someone gets an ignorant sales rep that day.

Why is everyone conveniently ignoring this person's post?? It's not going to work, so save your precious gas. Also, do we need an entire separate thread for this?

I got that too when I tried the $20 off when you buy 2 XBL accessories a while back. It was just sickening to see one of the supervisors trying to weasel his way out of the ad and interpret it differently.

Is it just me, or does this sort of "taking advantage" of an ad offer cross from cheapness into meanness?

So much hate on CC... they every right to sue for disclosure of their ads if they make everyone who sees them sign a non-disclosure agreement.

I will give this a try, but don't expect it to work.

You would think by now if CC (or any store) was going to offer guarantee of some sort they would make sure to check there facts, or issue disclaimers like "guarantee excludes changes in street date".

Good questions.

even if this was going to work, posting this thread in the deals forum pretty much guarantees it to be DOA. Every deal site and many game sites get deal news from CAG and you know at least one dumbass would call CC and inadvertently call this to their attention. also, it's a safe bet that CC is keeping an eye on this forum themselves.

Finally, it's not even a deal!!
"ONLY CREATE THREADS IF YOU ARE POSTING SPECIFIC DEALS!"

It's just you. Nobody forced them into this hare-brained $20 GC scheme. If they don't want to honor it in future, they can choose not to offer it at all.
