I logged on Demonoid today to see this on the homepage:

In the United States, a new law proposal called The Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA) was introduced last week, and there will be a hearing in front of the Judiciary Committee this Thursday.

If passed, this law will allow the government, under the command of the media copanies, to censor the internet as they see fit, like China and Iran do, with the difference that the sites they decide to censor will be completely removed form the internet and not just in the US.

I know this probably has a slim chance of getting passed, but then again, worst things have happened. I can't believe the US thinks they have the authority to remove websites from the WORLD WIDE web.
 
This is exactly the kind of shit that causes a 9/11 type event and all the faux-patriots stand in the dusty street screaming "Why?! Why did this happen to us?!"
 
Yeah, pretty scary stuff. The way things are going it wouldn't surprise me to see this type of law to make it through in some shape or form.
 
I can't believe we sit here and criticize countries like China for all the things they do, yet shit like this manages to come up every now and then here.
 
The internet should be censored, I was on there the other day and it was full of naked ladies doing disgusting things like this

Sad part is I have no doubt a majority of the people in power making these decisions for us have a shady past and several skeletons in their closets and make shit found on the internet look like a bad episode of Muppet Babies.

My thing is isn't this one of the things we fight to keep? The founding fathers came here because of stupid shit like this yet now we want to do it. So how much longer till groups of Americans go to another countrie and take it over because they didn't like the things America was doing.

I saw this today and literally thought ... 'violation of the Constitution'? That 'minor' part about freedom of speech, and such.

I just can't see this passing.

Just like Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park "Life finds a way." The internet shall find a way too if this were to get passed.
 
As long as everyone can get their extended cuts of Dancing with the Stars life will march on and no one will be the wiser. On that note how about we censor TV. Every show with the word Housewives should be removed from TV for sheer stupidity. Also every reality show that involves kids. It's for the children and such.

Then lets follow it up with an amendment to the Constitution that makes it an act of treason to swear an oath to the country to uphold the Constitution and then violate it.

I didnt know censoring the internet made foriegn terrorists come to our country and crash planes into buildings.

All this time I thought they did it because they got tired of us for the past couple decades rolling tanks down their streets and dropping bombs on them from planes and publicly making jokes about them in everything we do. Huh, I learn something new everyday I guess.

You need to stop taking shit so literally. And maybe see a doctor about getting that stick removed from your ass. It's been up there way too long.
 
There is no way this passes...right now. At some point down the road, possibly, but no way this is happening right now. Absolutely insane though, read the other countries named. China and Iran? Come on, we are trying to yank away citizen freedoms at a rapid pace.
 
They better watch. Censoring the internet does have the constitution problem, but lets forget about that. Lets focus on all the hackers/geeks who would basically become a force where they would band together and take down any site they choose. The MPAA's site got hit, and well the consequences would only become worse.
