CheapyD's Motorstorm Review - Now updated

Sounds like this is not the game to get the undecided off the fence on the PS3 (big surprise), but is obviously something CheapyD and other "haters" (God, how I loathe that term!) don't get in the eyes of those who find Shane Bettenhausen to be the pinnacle of journalistic integrity.

Console loyalists: now even 33% thinner-skinned and knee-jerk defensive than ever!
In the brief 2-3 hour coop mission session that I had at my friend's place the other night with Resistance, I did enjoy myself since I've never played coop fps before, but it is quite fun since we can actually work as a team and all.

But really other than that, I agree that I don't know if there's much else anybody can do with a fps title. Though we only got it to work at 480p on his tv (which unfortunately only does 480p and 1080i), I'm not sure if it's the blowaway game reviewers are making it out to be.

But yea don't get me wrong...for me who doesn't play a whole lot of fps games (actually the last game I really played was battlefield 1942...and...well I'm sure a lot of you know how old that game is), it seems just like any other fps game that I've seen.

But is it fun? Definitely.
I'll say it to save The Mana Knight the trouble:

You must be anti-Sony.

LoL. Anyone who doesn't LOVE Resistance seems to get that tag from him. Oh well. People have to justify their purchase somehow.
Apparently there are only two choices.

Fanboy.
Anti-Something.

I suppose some have forgot about the people who just care about the games, not the people who make them.
Amen to that. I get very frustrated and tired of people on both sides of any console discussion who instantly want to paint others with the same ridiculously broad brush.

I disagree, albeit mildly, with Cheapy on Motorstorm. But I find all his arguments to be completely valid. I don't think that makes me a Sony fanboy or him an anti-Sony fanboy (or whatever the fuck that would even be called).
Yes I think the blue ray is less reliable, and I think that the fact that it is built into the gaming system can help make things go wrong a lot easier. Playing dvds killed my original ps2.
This is what happen to two of my ps2 and my brother-in-laws ps2. Which is why I'm holding off for at least 2 or 3 years for better hardware , the bugs worked out and not to mention good games.
What? People think Resistance is unoriginal? Someone please name a FPS in the past 5 years that WAS original. Meh, the genre is getting a bit stale for me.
Riddick and XIII
IGN adds to the hate of the Japanese version:

...if you read the first couple paragraphs, then stop and say, "Yeah! Suck it, Sony!"

But then you'd miss this part:

And sure enough, I agree with the glowing impressions our boys in Europe have previously posted here at IGNPS3. The driving component of Motorstorm is a blast to play. You've never played a racing game quite like this, where the type of car you select can totally change the feel of the course, where the bumps and other obstacles that line the course are more of a challenge than your opponent racers, and where each lap can be raced on a different path. As I played, I found myself thinking that no two races are ever alike, and every race is better than the last.

Motorstorm is also the first real proof of the PS3's true technical prowess (Resistance provided just a few hints). The game manages to deliver sharp detail up close for the cars and tracks, along with distant views full of extraneous details, including lots of waving banners. And beneath all that is an impressive simulation of 20 cars interacting with the track. While a few shortcomings get in the way, including the occasional unfortunate camera angle during replays, a bit of slowdown here and there, and mud effects that need a bit of work, this is the most technically impressive game I've ever played.

And it will likely be even more impressive once Evolution Studios finishes up development. Motorstorm was clearly not ready for its Japanese debut, and considering how poorly non-Japanese games tend to sell in the Japanese market, we're not sure why Sony wasted the team's precious time on rushing the Japanese release. We look forward to playing the real version of Motorstorm early next year, and, based on the preview provided by the Japanese version, fully expect it to be one of the finest racing experiences ever.
It's an excellent game--there just ain't enough of it.

lol
well if he were to say that he couldn't be more wrong. Ever since the ps3 was announced I've had my eyes set on it and nothing else.

Frankly, I couldn't care less that playstation is Sony, but if it were the playstation that he wa referring to, well I actually enjoy very much the playstation line of entertainment, and hope the ps3 can pull something out of its ass that just completely buries the other consoles in the future. Lol well maybe that's a bit strong, but I want them to be equally as competitive in the entertainment department as the 360 and Wii are. Though to be honest at the moment numbers can't really lie. They are fallin quite a bit behind lol. We'll see though if DMC4, MGS4, or FF13 can do something about that.

Besides Resistance though, if I had a PS3 (which I am planning to hopefully get one soon), I can find myself enjoying Genji (loved the first one) and possibly Ridge Racer 7 (who else thinks that Namco should recreate the atmosphere that they had goin in R4?) a lot. And then of course to side even more with the fanboys, MGS4 and FF13. Devil May Cry 4 maaaybe. I'm too much of a noob to handle the difficulty curve the DMC series throw at me lol.

I guess I'm sort of the anti-fanboy, because I have all three consoles (and all the portables) and I think that they all have something valuable to contribute. But I do get annoyed by people who take sides and spend all of their time taking potshots at one company or another. Anyone who says that they want a particular company to lose is being pretty shortsighted. Competition is good for the consumer.
Riddick and XIII
Riddick is absolutely one of the best FPS I've played in a while that was very original. Can't speak on XIII though lol
Riddick and XIII
XIII was such a great game! Even though it only had small sales I wish UBISOFT would just suck it up and make the sequal to it already.
Riddick and XIII
Ok, I might give you Riddick, but XIII?! Since when is cel-shading innovative? That game is outright terrible. But if we want to go with bad innovative games, you could at least throw Geist out there.

Geist and XIII were totally average with one unique item (Geist the whole ghost thing and XIII the interesting cell shading) but it did not make them bad games. Just overhyped ones.

Yeah, I guess average is probably a better descripter, my bad.

Well you asked for original FPS...as far as I know, XIII is the only cel shaded FPS

I asked for an innovative FPS, there is a difference. Innovative would require a game to do something that advances the genre. Changing graphical styles does not advance the genre in any way.

Like I said, you asked for an original FPS, not an innovative one. Seriously maybe you should read your own posts before you reply.

I just bought the USA version and the online play is the most fun I've had in ages. Trust me, this is a killer app. Go buy this game.
