Honestly, I can't recommend anyone get a PS3. Sony has said that they're dropping the price soon, they're just trying to figure out how much to drop it. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they drop it $100 at E3.
No they haven't said that (they've sort of implied it though, or acknowledged it's a barrier at any rate). It wouldn't surprise me if they did at some point this year though. And as someone mentioned, it probably won't have the Emotion Engine in it anymore (although even without it their backwards compatibility is better than Microsoft's, despite only being on the market half a year).
Regarding the price, for me I wouldn't mind seeing pack ins or the ability to select free stuff with it instead of a price drop. $500 was really pushing it, and $600 is just too much.
But throw in a game or two, and maybe a couple of movies, and I think it would be worth $600.
Heck, they could throw in two first party titles like Resistance and Motorstorm, give you a choice of a Blu Ray movie, and I think I'd bite for $600.
I also agree about the reliability thing. I haven't heard any widespread Playstation 3 issues, and every single one of my friends with a 360 is on at least third second (often third or fourth). I'm on my third, but I'd probably be on my fourth or fifth except that I haven't really played it in 8+ months. (It gave occasional red rings of death back when I was last playing it).
At any rate, I'd rather have a $500 model than a $600 model with two controllers, since I'd only rarely use the second pad.
