Circuit City Blu-ray's

Haha if it's that bad then I may reconsider. I just thought I couldn't go wrong on a 12.49 bluray.

Well to be honest it isn't THAT bad, but it's definitely not worth more than $5-10 to add it to your collection. I wouldn't pay over $9.99 (even at $10 there'd have to be NOTHING else to buy where I was at heh)
I'm gonna pick up Chicago, Planet of the Apes, Click!, Harry Potter Movies, Training Day, 10,000 BC, and iRobot...all are priced between 24.99 and 29.99 respectively.
Good luck finding all of them. Unless your Circuit City is still stocked full of Blu Rays, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in finding all of those titles.

Not to go off topic, but I just want to remind folks to look for CDs at you local store too. I found my store had a bunch of good music still on the shelves. I bought As I Lay Dying, Dragonforce, and In Flames for about $7 each. I also saw bands like Unearth, The Mars Volta, and Jimmy Eat World. I was really surprised how much good stuff they had left.

Edit:
I went back today for 50% off. I got "The Rock" for $12, and "Die Hard" for $15.

I also almost got "Edward Scissorhands" for $12 and "Lethal Weapon" for $12, but decided against those.
They also had a bunch of TV seasons. In particular, I almost got The Sopranos. They had every season, I think. After the discount, they are $30 each (msrp is $59.98). Amazon sells them for $50 each. Deepdiscount sells them for $40.

I went there last night and it was stickered in the $99 area. They had two of them left.

I saw a copy of A Clockwork Orange on Blu Ray last night and I really hope it is there today. I will be paying $12.50 for it. Better price than Wal Mart($14.96).

Lost 4 Blu-ray is TRULY worth buying if it's below $39 to $42.56 range!
Yeah, around $50 after the discount. I never watched the show so I wasn't interested in purchasing it.
You should check it out.. its an amazing show with brilliant writing

I went to my local CC during lunch. Sure enough they were 50% off. Selection was ok, but since I am a big time hi-def head, there wasn't anything that was priced below Amazon, for me. Still if you wanted to pick up a few flicks, and don't mind tax (though some also pay tax on Amazon), it may be worth it. Some titles were priced at $30 and after 50% off, HSM 2 would have been $15, to give you an idea. Eraser would have been $12.50 plus tax. But other than that, most I saw were $34.99, and Lost was $99 in my CC was well.

By the time the percentages are cut again, my store may be wiped out. The entire video game area was decimated, and people were buying fixtures already. As it goes with these liquidations ( I work for a major distributor, and have seen several of these "sales" over the years), you need to be careful you don't overpay, as many items are there at full MSRP.

As another example I looked up a BD HT system for my best friend, who just got into BD, which was $999, and marked down to $699. Although I have numerous BD and HD DVD players, I was just curious, how their "liquidation" pricing stacked up. At Amazon the same system was $649 already. Good deal hunting, everyone!:)

My local store had some good prices on the Onkyo receivers and had a ton of them in stock. They had the 506 and the 606. I mean literally 10 sealed boxes of each model sitting there on the shelf. I remember the 506 was $188, but I can't remember what the 606 was priced at. I know that $188 for the 506 is actually a decent price. The best I could find otherwise was a refurb from shoponkyo.com for $199. There is no way they are going to sell that many, so I think I'm going to check back next Thurs to monitor the price of that 506. If it gets to $150, it's mine.

I did buy a couple Blu's today. I got "The Rock" for $12.50, and "Die Hard" for $15. Both of those (even with tax) beat Amazon.
Question:

Narnia's $10 Upgrade for DVD need the receipt from the OLD DVD?
Don't know the exact form that you're talking about but I can't imagine that it would. Who still has receipts from that long ago? I figured they just needed the UPC code for deals like that.

As far as CC goes, I headed out there just after reading this thread to behold the 50% off BD goodness... minus the goodness. I had a stack of movies in my hand and as I was walking around the store I kept thinking whether or not they were worth it and determined that the sale just isn't that great. I mean a $34.99 BD (like Burn After Reading or Saw V, which were both in my hands) is now $17.50 which is a great deal for a new movie but not for the ones I saw. Sure, Iron Man would be worth it at that price as would The Dark Knight, but BAR and Saw V are not technical achievements and therefore not worth spending a lot of money on (to me, anyway). I told myself I wouldn't spend more than $15 on a BD movie that I didn't already own on DVD unless the movie is a special effects wonder.

Anyone thinking about spending the money on BD at Circuit City this weekend should seriously check out Amazon first. I say if the movie can't be had on there for less than what CC is selling with 50% off it's worth it. I know that Amazon's prices are for used items but I haven't been wronged with a used item on Amazon yet so I'm going to continue to treat them as equal to buying new. Just checked on there for Saw V and I could buy it for less than $15. Be a true CAG and check Amazon first before heading out, it might save you the trip.

Unfortunately, CC DON'T carry porn like Tower Records did.

Some HD Porn would be HOT!

I had the same dilemma yesterday (especially because I was in NYC and have brutal tax) and it just didn't seem worth the effort.

Does everyone really feel like big special effects are necessary for the upgrade to Blu? I think I'm most impressed by skin tones, background clarity and facial details. In Casino Royale, for example, I think the scenes at Bond's waterfront recovery center, among others, benefit from the upgrade every bit as much, if not more, than some of the big actions scenes. I actually think Blu does wonders for good actors too (and makes bad ones look even worse) as it's much easier to pick out the subtleties of their facial acting.

And just to stir the hornet's nest a little, my ranking for 2008's comic movies:
Iron Man > Hellboy II: The Golden Army > The Dark Knight > Wanted > The Incredible Hulk > Punisher: Warzone > Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow

I didn't mean that the movie has to have special effects for me to make the upgrade, just that I would prefer to spend the extra money on something that is meant to look clean and crisp and sound amazing. I have seen Casino Royale on BD and think it looks amazing and would love to purchase it. However, since I already own the SD version, I can't justify spending more than $15 on it for the upgrade even if I'll never watch the SD again. It's just a personal thing. I don't mind upgrading since I'm at the point now where I barely rent/buy regular DVDs anymore and prefer BD. But just because I prefer the format doesn't mean I'm going to shell out an extra $10 for that version of the movie. No, I'll just be more careful about where I get it from.

I was just saying that I'd be willing to pay a little more for a BD of a movie like Dark Knight or Iron Man because I know these are high-end releases and chances are the picture and sound quality are top notch. Plus I thought those were two of the best movies I've seen in '08. But for a movie that I thought was alright (like Wanted) or one that I know isn't going to blow me away on high-def (like Quarantine), I'll wait for a better deal that this CC liquidation is going to get me.

And since you sir decided to stir the hornet's nest, I'll offer this up:

The Dark Knight > Iron Man > Hellboy II > Incredible Hulk > Wanted

I never saw Punisher but I imagine it would be below Wanted since Wanted and Incredible Hulk are about tied. Wanted was more interesting than Hulk but the plot was so absurd that I can't call it a better movie. I would still love to find that awesome Wanted Box Set for cheap though.

alot of the local stores have a crapload of bd's still... but even at 50% .. prices suck

punisher on bd was a big dissapointment.. i wasnt happy with it even though it was only $10

iRobot, Training Day and Harry Potter movies are gone. I still managed to pick up Chicago, Million Dollar Baby, Bridge to Terabithia and Planet of the Apes for 12.49 and 14.99 each. 10,000 BC was priced 34.99 MSRP so forget that lol

Mine now has them for 50% off and is in the last week from what is being said on TV only someone at the store I thought said they would be there for another 3 or so weeks. Games are almost gone and so are most the BDs. I ended up picking up 3 today that were at a great price. Saw V was 17.50 and Amazon wants 25.99, 28 Days Later and a scanner darkly were both 12.50 when Amazon wants 18.49 for 28 days and 16.99 for Scanner. So not bad of a deal. Only paid 3.60 for tax on every thing I bought. Scanner was a blind buy for me but sounded good from what I read on the back of it and for 12.50 if it sucks then not going to worry about it.

Snagged a Silent Hill for $14.99 - figured that was a pretty good price. They had some others that I had a vague interest in, but most of them were MSRP of $34.99, and even at 50% off that isn't that hot.

Could someone in the know PLEASE answer my question regard Narnia $10 Upgrade if original receipt for Narnia on DVD is needed at all?

I believe you just need the proof of purchase.
my stupid CC isnt selling blurays for 50 % off, they say the price only applies to dvd and cd's
that's bullpoop i went to a CC today and got two blu-rays and they were 50% off. I would have made a scene, it's not like you're going back there again anyway

picked up Hustle & Flow, Blazing Saddles, and The Dirty Dozen for $12.50 each, and We Own the Night for $15.

Only decent things they had left at mine were TMNT and Saw III, I got both for $15/ea.

fucking tools had TMNT priced at $27.99 and claimed it was mis-priced (old CC sticker) and charged me the "real" price ($29.99 = $15). I fucking bitched at them for a good while but they claimed there was nothing they could do. Still saved $7 total over Amazon's prices though.

I hate Circuit City and liquidators alike.

Just got back from the Vestal, NY. Not too much of a selection left. Most of the movies they had left that I'd buy I already own; the Prestige, the Fountain, TMNT, Mr. Brooks.

So I only picked up a couple things, Hustle and Flow, Cruel Intentions, and Batman: the movie.

Was moderately tempted to pick up Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, the Nightmare Before Christmas or Enter the Dragon, but they had a few copies of each so I thought I could take some time to think about it. Anyone have opinions on any of those? Not sure if KKBB is worth it on blu, and I'm on the fence about the other two.

And on the off chance anyone is in my area, they are up to 60% off and they have signs up saying last 10 days.

Wish mine would have had Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Saw that at a friends house and thought it was good. It would be worth 10-20 bucks on BD.

Movies, Blu-rays, and games were all at 60%. I assume CDs were too, but I didn't even think to look. The game selection is terrible at this point. Just a lot of copies of GH:Aerosmith.

Movie Hauls for Today, 60%, For Good (depends on if CC will drop it further or not?)

Prison Break Season 1 Blu-ray - $36 (Doubt it will past this % anyway!)
Jumper Blu-ray - $14 (Rachel Bilson alone is Worth it!)
The Queen Blu-ray - (Probably should just got it on SD instead, a little regret. May sell it) $12
